Dotable Suspends Account Doesn't Respond To Tickets
Aug 26, 2008
One of our accounts has been suspended by Dotable.
It is under quota for diskspace and bandwidth and has been paid for in advance.
Dotable will not respond to the ticket asking why the account has been suspended and what we have to do to get it back up.
I have posted on the Dotable forum (in the 'Dotable Support Forum) about this but nobody has replied (I can't link to it because I don't have more than 5 posts).
Has anyone got any suggestions about what I can do to find out why the account has been suspended and how to get it back up if Dotable doesn't reply?

its not actually my domain but the other day an older lady contacted me frustrated because she had lost her login info for her dog kennel site. She tried for over a month to get a hold of the company but no one returns her calls or emails. She contacted me to see if there was anything I could do. The first thing I did was fire off an email and call the number I was given. Left a msg to call me back, waited a few days sent another email and made another phone call...nothing. So I did some sniffing around and found the company had changed names to Black Wire Marketing (from teknon media). So I sent emails to them and made phone calls....it was the same phone system as the previous number.
My question is this, is there any protocol for recovering a website or more importantly the domain, if the hosting company has left town? The original site definitely resembles a flyby night reseller setup and not one that had a lot of thought put into it, wreaks of IM (why do IM people think they make good hosting service providers?).

Recently, some code on a web application that has been working fine for months started to run unexpectedly. That code is just a media files loading JavaScript function, that uses jQuery. It's pretty long, but in essence it is like this:
Code:
var $audio=$('<audio>');
$audio.on('canplaythrough',function(e){
$audio[0].play();
});
$audio.attr('src','song.ogg');
Basically, the file only loads sometimes, and sometimes stops loading with a suspend or even an abort event.
I have uploaded a little testing HTML to [URL] .... , where you can see what's happening. You can download the test files from[URL] .... for local testing.
I have just checked that opening the test index.html file directly into Firefox, and not through my localhost Apache server, makes the audio files perfectly playable. So, I assume, my hosting and I have the Apache server misconfigured for serving media files.
My software versions are: Linux Mint 13, Apache 2.2.22-1ubuntu1.7 , Mozilla Firefox 31.0 , Chromium 36.0.1985.125 and jQuery 1.11.0.
My Apache server configuration is very basic. I have just installed the package, alongside the php mod, and modified very little on the conf file. I think the problem is not related to my specific configuration, and many other people would be able to reproduce it on they own.
I have checked the Apache error.log after a suspended loading, but nothing was added to it.

I have a problem with one of my user accounts (let's call it testuser) in Plesk. System is Windows Server 2012 R2 with Plesk 12.In the Control Panel, the customer and subscription for testuser are removed, so there should not be any data left for the domain/user.
However, when I want to create a new subscription with the username testuser, Plesk gives the error "User account already exists". I tried to manually remove the domain and took the following steps:
Code:
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>customer --remove testuser
An error occurred during removal of customer account: testuser does not exist
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>webuser --remove testuser
The web user with the name 'testuser' does not exist
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>ftpsubaccount --remove testuser -do
main testdomain.tld
Unable to remove FTP account: Unable to find service node for web service on dom
ain with id=0
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskbin>database --remove testuser
An error occurred during database removal: database does not exist
As described in this topic, I logged in to the MySQL server and tried to remove the user:
Code:
C:Program Files (x86)ParallelsPleskMySQLbin>mysql -P8306 -uadmin -p[admin-pass] psa
mysql> g SELECT id FROM `sys_users` WHERE login=`testuser`
ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'testuser' in 'where clause'
mysql> g DELETE FROM `sys_users` WHERE login=`testuser`
ERROR 1054 (42S22): Unknown column 'testuser' in 'where clause'
Also, the inetpub/vhosts directory for the user is correctly removed and therefore doesn't exist. Are there any other steps I can take to remove the user manually and so be able to recreate the user?

I signed up with dotable about a year and a half ago. Initially, I used the simplest plan to put up a very small informational site for my son's one man business.
My primary reason for going with dotable in the first place was the excellent reputation enjoyed by the principal partner. I have followed his exploits in the world of web hosting for many years, and was always impressed with his product, knowledge, and attitude. Several months after I came onboard, he and his partner sold the company to the UK2 group.
Recently, both my wife and I retired. We want to play around with several online stores to see just what, if anything, works. With that in mind, I recently upgraded to the least expensive multi-domain plan. Dotable is the only host of which I'm aware that offers multiple dedicated IP addresses, free SSL, one free SSL certificate, and a cpanel for each domain along with reasonable space and transfer in a simple shared hosting package that is truly inexpensive(about $162 a year).
Now that I'm finally beginning to use this product in a somewhat aggressive manner, I've experienced a number of unusual things that in sum are somewhat disturbing.
As many of you know, dotable's web site is nothing more that a support forum. This is, I feel, a great idea. Unfortunately, it's of little benefit if it's unusable. I cannot search this forum. I'm always returned to the initial search page. Also, I am unable to register and log in. The site, therefore, is largely useless to me. I recently asked my residential broadband host if that company was in any way involved. I received a reply (copied in part below) indicating that the tech had the same issues using several different boxes and connections.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Thank you for contacting EMBARQ High-Speed Internet Technical Support.
I am sorry for your recent troubles with the "dotable.com" website search feature. I can definitely give you some closure on this subject. I researched the website search page you are having trouble with and have tried it from several different computers using several different ISP connections, including Embarq and AT&T. In all instances there is the same results that you are having. The search page feature does not function but you simply remain on the same page with nothing having happened. This is not your computer at fault, and it is not the connection at fault either since these tests were done using different Internet backbones. The only possible cause of this issue is a problem with the actual website search feature itself. The website developers at "dotable.com" will need to fix their website functionality in order for you to have success with its search function.
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
I did notify dotable of this problem (ticket #8256) a month or two ago. Dotable Billy's response was that he was unaware of the problem. He did request that I contact him using IM; however, I haven't done so, feeling that it was never really a problem with my box. Several days ago, I resubmitted the issue with the inclusion of embarq's comments as indicated above. So far, no feedback.
The support forum was a lively place when I first signed on. Peer support is a good thing; so, I was delighted to see such an active customer community. Over the last few months, forum activity has dwindled to almost nothing. This may be due to the forum issues I've discussed above and/or possibly to the generalized unhappiness that I've been seeing regarding customer support and product value.
I suppose that it's remotely possible that this non-functionality has been built in by the current owner. It is certainly one way of limiting angry posts with the possible benefit of being a reasonable excuse for eventually modifying the web site in the future. Having a support forum as your entire web site might be problematic for a typical owner. Appears ridiculous even as I type it; however, stranger things have happened.
When I switched plans back in early March, I discovered that I hadn't been billed for my second year on the original plan. I notified dotable of this discrepancy and was promptly billed. I seem to recall a post in some applicable forum indicating that this was not a one-off situation, apparently a number of customers hadn't been billed. Apparently, new ownership has had a very rocky start.
I'm still at a point where it would be relatively easy for me to transfer to a different host. Almost inevitably, I'll take a bit of a financial hit if I do so. As indicated above, dotable is unusual in what it currently offers for the price. Almost inevitably, I'll have to purchase additional dedicated IP addresses, SSL certificates, etc. if I make a move. With many hosts, my multiple domains will have to be installed as addons with no cpanel of their own.
Still, if this host is going to go through a prolonged period of adjustment and/or if it's going to evolve into a completely different animal over the next year or two, then I'd be well advised to go now. Moving three to five fully functioning shops months from now would probably be a major headache.

I've been meaning to post a review here cause I used this forum to choose my host over 2 years ago.
I had never paid for a host before and never ventured into doing much for a website but wanted a small personal low maintenance e-comm website. I wanted a low cost host most of all since I didn't think I'd get a big flood of customers, dotable worked pretty well for the first year or so.
My only complaints with them were,
their abrasive renewal letters, it was like as soon as you got a notice to renew, you had 24 hours to do it. I'm a noob so I felt it was rude but whatever.
I also found the staff didn't seem to understand what I wanted when I submitted a ticket (all of twice a year) consisting of asking them where the virus scanner had gone. I used to have one and then it disappeared. It took 3 tickets and 1 year for Aussie Bob to understand that, I found it very frustrating.
I over all was happy, little downtime, only problem popping up occasionally was expired ssl but now that the company has changed over to new people I was determined to not mind. I didn't want to deal with a change since my website is nice and settled but in the last week I have submitted my first and now 2nd 911 tickets which took a good 12 HOURS to get a reply! I am not the type to use 911 tickets anyhow, I suspect others do so it's a big deal when I click the 911 button. This week I have submitted more overall tickets then I have in the rest of the 2 years I have been with them D: My website has never been so high maintenance! It's not only frustrating but as many of you know it makes you look BAD and you do loose business over it.
The customer service is the type that offers no information, it's like talking to someone where you ask "so did you like this movie" and they answer "yep...." you have to keep prompting the information or you will not get it at all. It is extremely frustrating. They also tend to answer only 1 problem per email.
I really wanted to keep on with dotable but after a long strength I will be looking for another host very soon.
I didn't love Aussie Bob but now I sure do miss him too bad.
Now I am off to research for a reliable host with low cost service for a low maintenance gal and her tiny osc website.

Do you personaly think that some companys don't answer right on support tickets or don't think the right way, (like dont care) when answering a support ticket in there billing system or support system then with the client comes on a forum such as WHT and posts what happens the provider comes and helps the client much more then he would of or had in the support tickets. I see many people come on wht and bring there problems they have with there provide, Im not saying this is a bad thing to do im just trying to show every else how i see it as that the hosts don;t care about there clients but when something goes public the hosting provider trys more to fix it...
Could it be that he or she dsnt want to lose customers thats the way i think it.

I was on a 100mbps shared port with a dedicated server from FDC and I use it only for downloads. The downloads took a little long to start but once they did, were as fast as they could be.
Thinking this was definitely a shared bandwidth problem, I ordered a dedicated port of 25mbps from FDC to fix it but it seems to have gotten worse.
The website uses around 10/15mbps but it takes forever for the server to respond. Even logging into cPanel takes around 40/50 seconds for the dialog box to appear but everything is fast once I log into my cPanel.
I also hired a sys admin to look into the server and He says everything is fine. I don't know what to do. I could increase my port bandwidth higher but it'll be disappointing if I do and it's just a waste of bandwidth (and money!)

I recently contacted 'theprimehost' with some pre-sales questions about their service.
However I received no replies, so posted on their forums in hope to get a reply from Darrell. However I found that the thread was removed. The questions I asked were as below:
1. Can I host MODx/Textpattern on Primehost space?
2. Do I get access to mod_rewrite / SSH with your account? (As an individual and as reseller)
3. How much do you charge for a dedicated IP?
4. Do you oversell or allow overselling with reseller accounts? How is the bandwidth calculated?
5. How can I monitor the uptime of your servers?
6. Is domain alias enabled?
7. Does mail enable me to set vacation auto-replies?
8. How frequently do you backup data?
9. Do you accept payments for 2 years at a time?
10. I didn't find information about your datacenter on the site. Can you please tell me more about it?
11. Can I avail of the 20% discount in addition to the 2 for 1 offer? Till when are these two offers valid?
I wonder why nobody at 'theprimehost' bothered to reply to my queries and deleted the thread so promptly. Anybody knows whats up with the guys? I have seen great reviews about them on the forum so this was unexpected.
I know Darrell is active on this forum - maybe he can clarify...

I have 2 weeks ago bought a VPS. The guy (Sven) told me that i got the the VPS that evening (4 October). At 6 October he didn't answer tickets anymore and i didn't got my VPS.
At 10 October i asked PayPal to get my money back, cause i didn't got a VPS when i payed it. Today i got a e-mail that i got my money back.
A friend of me got a server from Valueserver (same owner as VPS4Less) and had the same as me. He didn't answer tickets anymore, and doesn't send invoices.
Are there any other people who had the same as me or my friend?

I guess they have decided to close their doors to me once I asked for a cancellation because a friend of mine is letting me use his VPS.
I am hoping that this topic will catch the eyes of some GixxerPC staff so they will answer my ticket.

I just saw in another thread that edited support tickets are put to the end of the queue.
Seems the wrong thing to do.
When I report a problem I often do more research and if I find more detail that will help the support person I add it to the ticket.
If that makes the ticket drop down the queue that is a major disincentive to being helpful

Ive always thought that I knew the DNS principles, but now something really strange is going on.
I have one domain (hosting.com), which runs the nameservers:
ns1.hosting.com = server1
ns2.hosting.com = server2
ns3.hosting.com = server3
ns4.hosting.com = server4
And a lot of normal domains: client1.com and client2.com. These domains have ns1.hosting.com, and ns2.hosting.com configured as nameserver. Hosting.com also had these configured.
The situation above worked well. Server3 and 4 were not used at all.
The problems started when I migrated hosting.com to use server3 and server4. I transfered the zonefiles of hosting.com to these servers, and edited the WHOIS info to reflect these changes. This worked: hosting.com was working from server3 and server4.
10 mins later the first downtime-message came in. Client1.com could not resolve. A quick check using dig showed why:
l.gtld-servers.net [192.41.162.30] ns3.hosting.com. ns4.hosting.com.
Somehow the root servers think that the client1.com and client2.com domain also have changed nameservers. But those are not changed, the wois info still points to ns1 and ns2.
So in some strange way the root servers now return ns3 and ns4 for all domains that use ns1.hosting.com & ns2.hosting.com in their WHOIS. I alway thought that the root servers got their info from the whois info of the domain. (Or better said: the registar). Why do the root servers return ns3 & ns4, while ns1 and ns2 are configured?

I know 443 is open on the router because it works fine under Xitami. I checked the logs and it si starting fine. I am attaching my httpd.conf and the startup log. If I try to access the website using https, it just times out and nothing goes in the log file. I replaced my domain with domain.com. I have tried many different examples, but cannot get it to work and am not sure what to do.

I'm using plesk with CentOS 6.6

This failed with every combination of settings I tried. So I checked if the POP3/IMAP services are running correctly using telnet.

telnet <host-ip> 110

Connected to <host-IP>.
Escape character is '^]'.

Connection closed by foreign host.
