[UK] A Very Very Bad Experience With PoundHost.com

Jun 10, 2008

I rent a server with PoundHost at 2008-5-30

they assigned me 4 IPs. 92.48.119.2-92.48.119.5.

from 2008-6-3 to 2008-6-9,bad speed. I am not sure it's PoundHost's Issues.but now normally.

another thing make me crazy.

maybe start from 2008-6-10,
my server can't access . because IP conflict.
then remove these IPs(92.48.119.2-5) from my server.
and re-assigned me another IPs.

first 4 Ips, can't bind.

some hour later, re-assigned me another 3 IPs.

still can't use. because these IPs also assgined to another servers.

just again another 3IPs again(3rd.)

uk's IP so expensive need some servers shared a IP? or PoundHost?.

until now, still not resolved. a little problem take more than 12 hours.

this is my worst server rent experience.

SoftLayer never like this,DediwebHosting and qala never like this.

PoundHost Review

May 26, 2008

I was really bored with LINX problems at England and my current UK provider's (xx company) bad customer support, I started to look for another provider at EU. I know LINX is used nearly all England providers but the problem was only with 1 switch of them. Anyways..

While visiting wht pages unhappily with hope of finding a good provider and sending them mails which I've founded, days passed with no luck.. After a few days I've mailled poundhost ( www.poundhost.co.uk ) and they've returned me in 5 or 10 minutes not sure while I was hopping to see a reply tomorrow or next week which we saw at other providers

Matthew, answered my all questions carefully and gave me whatever I want. I didn't have too many servers but he replied me as I was planning to move 50-60 servers to them I was very happy that I couldn't stop asking whatever I wanted to know to him and got my replies again carefully and they were handled professionally.

Now he gave me some VERY special deal and I am using them at this time! Personally, working with nearly all UK and DE providers, I never saw faster reply time for mails and tickets sometimes you get reply before clicking another link If you really want to feel special, go with PoundHost!

Shortly;
PoundHost? - Best EU provider that I saw in my 6 years IT life..

DDOS Attack Poundhost

May 12, 2009

Im currently with poundhost
i have some colo servers with them

they have gone down 3 times over the last week
2 DDOS attacks and 1 router/exchange issue

I called them up and they reckon they get 1 DDOS some weeks, and other weeks have none

However, when another server is getting a DDOS attack, i dont want my server to go down.
I take it the network pipe is being flooded, and thats why websites stop responding.?

so i called rapid switch, they reckon if they get a DDOS attack, it just takes down the one server, and not everyones elses

PoundHost 1 Month Review

Feb 24, 2009

(really annoyingly long detailed review incoming)

They have been exceptional for me. Not a second of downtime that wasn't my fault so far.

They offer OS reinstalls instantly for 30 quid or free with a 12 hour wait. This comes into play about two paragraphs down.

I had it originally loaded with Windows, because I was planning on playing around with some ASP. They gave me the server with a default password of something that you all pretty much would guess on the first try and RDP open to the world: when I got it, it was already heavily infected. OS reload took less than half an hour. Played with it for half a month, ASP got boring. FreeBSD time. Speedtests easily went over 100mbps (looks like each host is a gigabit/dual gigabit), it wasn't an overloaded node; always fast.

They don't officially support FreeBSD - it's not listed anywhere, and they don't support it. However, since it's ESX, I decided to ask if they could do a custom ISO and chose the free next-business-day install. They did it in less than one hour, and helped me troubleshoot when it went down (typoed something, user error) (this is 100% unmanaged too).

So far, they've been great. Tons of bandwidth, you can actually use it, non overloaded nodes, disk i/o has NEVER been a problem.

Another thing is fast ticket replies. On average, I see tickets answered in less than one or two minutes. No canned responses, always helpful. Almost all of my tickets were at obscene times - probably 3-5am their time. Responses were prompt and clueful.

Keep in mind this only costs ~$30/m USD - they have seriously dealt with a lot of my crap that they didn't have to, and I commend them for that.
Support: 10/10
Network: 10/10
Hilarity: 10/10 (deploying unpatched 2003STD with internet-facing remote desktop and generic/not randomly generated admin password)
Value: 100/10 (512MB + free Windows + free OS reloads + 2.5TB bw)
Reported hosted IP to mods.

Experiences Of PoundHost (BlueSquare)

Aug 28, 2009

Does anyone have experiences of what Poundhost are like to co-locate with?

Are they pretty friendly and fulfilling to your requests? Just wanting some general opinions of what they're like in the ways of co-location. I know their network is pretty solid but I've never co-located.

Wanting to offer some services within the UK but considering I live here myself I was thinking of co-locating rather than renting a server. Always wanted to but a lot easier to do so within the UK rather than the US!

Mistake Moving From Poundhost To Rapidswitch??

Sep 25, 2009

I fear i've made a terrible mistake.

I'm currently a Poundhost customer and have been very happy with the service - my server has never been down yet and i've never had to contact them since setting the server up - it just works.

However, i've recently been offered a much better deal from Rapidswitch - a better server for quite a bit cheaper which as a personal customer with no budget makes a big difference.

I did think twice about moving from a provider I was happy with but have heard good things about Rapidswitch and their control panel is much better.

However, since placing my order it seems all they've had is network problems - they were completely down for hours last night, have had problems all day and are now down again. To boot, they said my server would be built in 24hrs and probably less but it's now nearly 30hrs and hasn't been built yet.

I'm really surprised and shocked that such a big provider with a good reputation has a single point of failure like this and doesn't have redundancy built in as well as hot swap spares and even spares from another provider.

It also seems their site and phone system are on the same backbone so that all went down too (and seems their monitoring is within their network so that doesn't register most of the outages).

Have I made a terrible mistake and this is the new Rapidswitch now it's been bought out or do you think it's just a bad week and they will get themselves sorted out and will return to 100% uptime?

Thoughts?

Co-Location With PoundHost In The BlueSquare Datacenter

Jun 8, 2007

I have never done co-location before and I am very interested in it. Although a fair amount of my questions could be asked to PoundHost I preferred to ask here as I can get opinions too and more elaborate information probably. So if anybody wants to reply with some help, please do!

I am currently looking at Quater Rack Space (10U) at the following URL [url]

The first issue is a switch. The site states "1 x 100Mbit CAT 5 Feed" - I assume I would need to install a switch to share this connection between my servers, what sort of switches am I looking at here - do you have recommendations?

Another issue is power. Is there any typical number of servers I could put online with 3A, as well as my switch? I've actually been looking at buying servers from the USA and having them shipped to me (at [url]). The systems I'm looking at are the Core2Duos (SATA Enterprise and SATA cost effective at the moment). What custom build places would you recommend in the UK? If I did want to increase my power allocation, can PoundHost do this for me?

I was also after some opinions of PoundHost as a company - anyone have experience with their colo? A question I should really ask directly to them, but maybe people already know here: Are they able to increase my IP Address allocation? Can they increase my bandwidth to say, 20Mbit as required?

Are there any other UK colo that can compete with these prices for rack space?

How would their connectivity be to the USA? With my current setup, most of my dedicated servers are in the USA. To people here in Europe connection is fine to the USA. I'm just wondering how this would work in return from the connectivity of BlueSquare.

I was wondering about remote reboots. If I wanted to be able to make my own hard remote reboots instantly, can the likes of APC remote reboot switches be installed into my 10U space? The main problem really is my understanding of power distribution in a data center and how power is fed to my space.

Again - I'm grateful for any replies, feedback or recommendations because I want to ensure I start with a good service and a good company.

Poundhost / BlueSquare Data... Security Failure

Sep 21, 2009

This morning BlueSquare/Poundhost sent out an email to all their customers, announcing a special deal to all current customers, that sounds great right? Sure, except the CC'd instead of BCC'd all of their clients in on the email.

Since then everyone who's email address stards with anything up to the letter B - around 100-110 addresses - received an email containing the ****** image with the message

Followed by this from BlueSquare:

Quote:

Earlier today an email was sent out to all customers providing details on a dedicated server special offer. Unfortunately this email was sent out using the CC field and not the BCC field. This was not a breach of security, but a genuine mistake on the part of the sender who was not aware of what had happened until the email had been sent, and as such the sender has been suitably reprimanded.

We realise the seriousness of this error and have now taken automatic steps to ensure this cannot happen again by limiting the maximum recipients on our outgoing mail server to a small number, as well as updating and limiting staff on the use of the mail list system.

We are aware that some of our more unscrupulous competitors may have already obtained a copy of this email list and may contact you in due course. If you do receive an unsolicited email, to reduce further unwanted spam, please use the unsubscribe option which they are legally obliged to include.

Reliable, Best For The Money VPS?

Aug 14, 2008

I am wanting to spend around $60 - 70 a month on a VPS...

I am looking for a reliable source, and one that is on the cheaper side (but I know those two don't actually mix, so reliable more)

It doesn't have to be managed, but it can, so either way.

Any recommendations?

How much disk space/bandwidth should I be able to get with that amount of money?

I need it with control panel, and fantastico at the least.

GplHost Does Not Refund Me Money

Sep 13, 2007

Last week I asked my friend to pay gplhost.com for VPS server EUR25 through paypal. They said they require to authenticate me in order to set up my account. Since paypal account is not mine I was unable to pass this authentication. I said, it's OK just refund me my money. They refused to give me my EUR25 back saying they will report me to authorities for "credit card fraud"!

I understand that my behaviour MAY seem suspicious but isn't it my right to refuse give my personal information to anyone? And isn't it my right to receive refund if I don't want to disclose it?

Shall I advise my friend to initiate dispute with paypal about that? I won't give up until I get my money back.

Lunarpages (web Host) Stole My Money - Anything I Can Do?

Dec 27, 2007

A while ago I got an e-mail from Lunarpages saying my account was due for renewal. I contacted them well before the payment was due and asked for the account not to be renewed. I gave all the information I was asked for but then the support staff didnt reply.

Now I have an e-mail saying I have renewed my account and domaim. I quickly opened a support ticket asking for a refund, again giving all the details that I gave the first time. The ticket I opened was closed (why?!) and instead Lunarpages support replied in my original support ticket saying the charge ($100) is non-refundable.

Is there anything I can do, other than tell them if they dont give me my money back I will help in ruining their reputation?

ThePlanet - Billing Stole My Money..

May 17, 2008

I have now run into a very very unpleasant situation with ThePlanet.

I have ordered my 3rd server with them this month as a reseller. Before ordering I had a chat with their sales team and went through the purchase very carefully to make sure I had got the facts straight.

On their reseller programme, if you agree to a 6 months contract, you get your first month free. I asked the sales rep and verified that if I signup I will NOT be charged for the first month of service. So, instead of being charged 294 USD, I would be charged 25 USD just for the setup.

So, I went ahead and ordered. I even submitted a billing ticket requesting that this billing was applied and that 6 months contract would be applied.

Now it's exactly a week later and I can see my CC statement which says I have been charged 294 USD. These inconsiderate, and slack people at ThePlanet do NOT understand nor care about the damage this caused me.

And that billing ticket? It is unaswered, unresolved since its open date - 9th of May. 8 days now.

I'm absolutely furious. Do they think they can just take money like that? I am just sickened.

Do I file a chargeback? I spoke yet again to a live chat billing agent who was absolutely unhelpful.

I enjoy their network but now I am thinking about taking my 1000 USD per month business with them else where.

If Priority One Is Stability And Uptime, Who Would Name The Best Host For Your Money

Jul 7, 2008

This may well turn into a free-for-all but...

If you're hosting a large, MySQL website and priority one (more important than price) is database stability and server uptime... who would you recommend as the best host for your money ?

I have free-hosting with Awardspace and their customer service and uptime are great, but their database crashed a couple of times in just a few months. Granted they always fixed it quickly. I've never used their paid packages.

And also I have quite a few sites pay-hosted with a Trini company that's re-selling from myhostcenter.com . They have fair customer service, but their databases have never (in four years) crashed on me... I've never lost data... and the price is very right! What I dis-like is the lack of advanced warning when sites are going to be down for server-maintenance. And there have been a couple times when the server would be down for no apparent reason at all, and with no apology.

Those issues haven't been huge problems before, because the sites are all relatively low-traffic, but it can be a disastrous for a future project I'm working on. Therefore, who would you recommend as both the most stable and most reliable host that money can buy ?

JoeUSA -- LOW BID, POOR SERVICE HOSTING -- CHEATED OUT OF MONEY W/ NO SVC PROVIDED

Feb 2, 2009

I had 2 annual accounts with joeusa.com for my website hosting (2 websites). I was a 3-year customer, somewhat disatisfied with tech support service but without time to change hosting servers. My email quit receiving on one website/account about 2 weeks ago. Joe told me they had changed out a hosting server & that was likely the issue. I continued to have no email with Joe being evasive & nonhelpful. Upon logging into the control panel, I noted I was blocked out. I finally got him to agree to check on it, & he stated that the host spam blockers were not activated, & there was too much spam. I had made no changes, so the spam blockers had to be deactivated when they changed servers with no notification to me.

Joe shut down both of my accounts refusing me a prorated refund. I had paid one on Sept. 6 through PayPal for 1 year & the other on Nov. 6 through PayPal, also for a year. I was told by PayPal that they do not cover services, so FYI on PayPal, buyer beware. Joe gave me 24 hours to take my websites down. He also wiped out all of my email that was on the server that I had not been able to receive for the last 2 weeks & I lost all of it with no access to it.

I have email proof of what transpired & only want a prorated refund, what is fair, because I have not received near the full year service purchased for both accounts. He has refused, and I am considering filing fraud charges. My email documentation shows how a simple tech support issue turned into his cheating me out of my money when he cancelled both services & refused any prorated refund.

I have no idea why he has acted so vindictively, including wiping all non-spam email off the server that I was never able to receive, but, based on some of his comments, I believe that he either did not like our Judeo-Christian website or that he had been reading some of my personal email with political comments in the recent election. He was not even aware of my 2nd account until I made him aware that there were two, but he was aware of the ministry website/account, where the email issues were. The other account had no issues, but he cancelled both. Also, the Judeo-Christian ministry website had been hacked on his server by someone alleging to be Islamic about a year ago.

I am not making this report in vengeance. I am only trying to keep the same thing from happening to other consumers. This is a low-bid hosting company, and, once again the old adage, "You get what you pay for," is proven true.

Infinitie.net - No Service, Beyond Slow, Refuses To Refund Money Paid

Jul 28, 2007

I signed up with service from infinitie.net after seeing an offer they had on this link [url]

This was on July 21st about 8PM EST. Link above states "PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 2 HOURS FOR YOUR NEW VPS ACCOUNT ACTIVATE ONCE ORDERED."

First reply took 8hrs, second 9hrs, third 5hrs, and to this date I haven't heard back from them since Jul 23, 2007 2:32 PM EST.

Incomplete login details were issued on Jul 23, 2007 2:32 PM EST. However, message stated "CPanel is finalizing its install and will be complete in 2 hours." I immediately asked them to please advise when setup is complete on Jul 23, 2007 2:56 PM EST. After not hearing anything back I decided to cancel and emailed request at Jul 24, 2007 2:54 PM EST.

I have a couple services I'm happy with elsewhere. I more or less just wanted to separate an account and see what other options were out there. I wasn't bothered by the fact setup was slow. The main issue was if they take this long to reply and handle simple issues prior to setup, what happens if I'm setup one day and there is a more serious issue? Since initial cancel request I attempted to contact them on several other occasions by both direct email and their ticket system. I never received a response other then the standard automatic "Thank you for writing to Infinitie's Support Team."

I have disputed transaction with paypal today. At a last attempt I emailed infinitie.net yesterday and told them unless refund was issued this is action I would be forced to take. No response so I proceeded. I will update and let you all know how this turns out.

3dghosting -->> Terrible Customer Relations And Terrible Money Handling

May 22, 2008

On apr 10th, I ordered 1 month of 3dg's $20 vps plan..

I asked about paying through paypal, and they said that they would setup the account, and charge me 'later'

on somewhere around may 5th~7th, I turned off auto-renew through their control panel..

since then, I forgot about the vps, and went ahead with my life, etc.

but today.. I get in my email a $40 PayPal invoice, charging me for apr11~june11 ...

I turned off auto renew before may10, which was the expire date for the plan.. but it now appears it has not been canceled.

I have never used their service after may 10... and I never enabled auto renew, but set it to disabled ...

now, they are charging me $40, which is complete.. BS.
they have renewed my account against my will, and they want me to pay for it.. and they are threatening me to take 'legal action'. should I decide not to pay $40...

don't trust 3dghosting.. they will renew your account w/o your consent, and charge you. if you don't give into their demands, they will contact debt collection agency, and contact credit bureaus..

don't trust 3dghosting.. they are ignorant people. I can pretty much imagine the big "WE CHARGE CUSTOMERS AT OUR WILL, AND WE MAKE THEM PAY NO MATTER WHAT" image as their background display for their computers...

Hostgator - "45 Day Money Back Guarantee"

Jul 27, 2008

Before i start i would just like to mention i had this problem about 8-10 months ago but fought this would be useful to share.

I bought the hostgator swamp shared hosting package for a website me and my friend were going to make.

Long story short my friend didnt have to much time in his hands so pulled out so a was left with hosting that i didnt need, so about 30-35 days in i cancelled the account, Hostgator claim that if you cancel your account with them no more than 45 days being with them the will issue a full refund.

I waited the full 3-5 business days they say it takes to issue the refund, I never recieved that refund, i gave them another week still no sign of the money.

After numerous chats with live operaters and opening tickets, i still hadn't got anywhere, live operaters where giving me coupons to make up for the refund ( but thats still not good enough ) and the operaters answering the tickets were saying they had issued the refund.

I just decided to forget about it.

The service was good though in that period of time they, such as changed my main domain name for me for free because i was a new customer.

So what do you think about this ?

Is Our Host Having Tech Trouble--or Money Trouble

Feb 14, 2007

if our host is experiencing technical problems, or if they're in financial collapse.
Since 5 PM Sat., many sites hosted by powerfulhosting.com of Santa Monica have gone dead, mostly on NS01.POWERFULHOSTING.COM and some on NS1.IOCUS.COM They include:

chandarawestla.com
peggypotter.com
countrysidepet.com
robertpaulgalleries.com
cameraleather.com
goeastern.com
roastyourown.com

and many more. Over the weekend, tech help claimed the problems were assocaited with an "upgrade" to a new server. As the site owners started talking to each other, and the outage grew into the work week, Powerful Hosting stopped responding to inquiries, even from longtime clients. Their phone mailboxes are full and silent.

Now, I'm not an administrator or even a very quick FTPer, but these stores have burned to the ground and there are are livelihoods on the line. Can anyone in this community find any evidence suggesting a geniune technical glitch on their servers? A couple of people in our group think maybe they can't pay a server bill, in which case we all need to bail out immediately.
