Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Protect Sendmail From Unauthorized Spam On Wordpress
Jul 11, 2015In the past we disabled sendmail in Plesk to prevent spam from using the contact form of Wordpress sites to send unauthorized spam emails. Because of this, password reset emails do not work.
A few questions:
1. Is it safe to enabled sendmail for scripts in Plesk?
2. If its best to disable it, what is the solution for enabling Wordpress password reset without the need of using send mail?
One site was hacked, but I am not sure if Wordpress send email can be manipulated from outside the Wordpress site, or if it happened because the outside user brute forced their way into the admin to send these spam emails.Here is the Wordpress error that came up when resetting the password to a username:
The e-mail could not be sent.
Possible reason: your host may have disabled the mail() function.

My Centos 6.6 has ProFTPD configuration setup only for webhosts so no root access. I came across SCP, but don't know how to secure that like a Pro. I have also heard about SSHFS for linux.

When there is a high CPU load, I have checked netstats, and I don't identify many ips connected, so I think it could be an internet script (or virus).

Feb 15, 2015I have a fresh server running CentOS 6 (final). I am trying to install Plesk 11.5.30 but i am experiencing some problems. When i run the plesk-installer i get this message:
Your host name must resolve to the correct IP address of your server, unless you are using network address translation (NAT).
Please quit Parallels Installer, fix the host name resolution problem, and then try installing again.
You can skip the hostname check and continue the installation, however, in such a case, the installer cannot guarantee successful installation.
Now, in my /etc/hosts file i have this:
127.0.0.1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost4 localhost4.localdomain4
::1 localhost localhost.localdomain localhost6 localhost6.localdomain6
Is this correct? Or do i need to add/change something else?
My server is in the clound.
Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Brand New CentOS 6.5 Server Running 12.0.18 Crashing Randomly
Aug 19, 2014I have a brand new A8i server from 1&1 that has crashed twice today and could only be rebooted through the 1&1 control panel (not Plesk). Out of the blue the server is not accessible from the Plesk CP and is not responding to pings. I have looked through the logs and do not see anything that stands out (I am not very Linux savvy). Is there somewhere specific that I can look that would tell me why it is locking up/crashing? I have only had the server about 2 weeks and am only running email on it (no websites besides webmail and Plesk CP). It is possible that there is a hardware issue, but I cannot have 1&1 check it until after hours tonight.
Server is an 8 core Intel Atom 2.6GHz with 8GB RAM.

Feb 25, 2015I have a new CentOS 7, with Plesk 12, CentOS 7 by default has XFS filesystem.
I try migrate sites from another Plesk Server but Plesk agent say: "hard disk quota is not supported due to configuration of server file system" (my CentOS 7)
My CentOS7:
CentOS Linux 7.0.1406 64 bits
Plesk 12.0.36
My fstab
[root@ns ~]$ cat /etc/fstab

I added "usrquota,grpquota", then mount -o remount / ; but when I try quotacheck -fmv / I gest this:

quotacheck: Cannot find filesystem to check or filesystem not mounted with quota option.
but quotaon command works:
[root@ns ~]$ quotaon /
quotaon: Enforcing group quota already on /dev/mapper/centos-root
quotaon: Enforcing user quota already on /dev/mapper/centos-root
The problem here is why Plesk does not recognize quotas as enabled on CentOS 7??
If I try this command it seems good:
[root@ns ~]$ /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/usermng --isquotable
0
Also I do this:
- Disabled Selinux
- Check all packages as quota, etc.

I have tried installing all sorts of different repos and it just isn't working.
When I try to install using # yum install php-mcrypt I get the following:

Jan 31, 2015I've searched the web to set up ssl on 1 domain of 2 installed op 1 ip address. It seems easy: setup virtual hosts, turn ssl on and point to your certificates.
I'm completely lost. I setup the certificate from geotrust in plesk panel 11.5 as described in the manual but that didn't work, apparently because i have 2 domains and 1 ip.
So i started looking to adapt my vhost settings to use sni. First problem: i can't find the setting of the virtual host.
Secondly where can i find the path to the .key and .crt files.
How i can install a ssl certificate on one of the two domains sharing 1 ip.

I recently tried to do the normal procedure, which is to transfer all objects, etc. And for some reason the percentage went from 1-50% to then back to zero.. but when clicking to check the current status, its still working

Jan 2, 2015I have the latest centos 7 and plesk 12 installed on a dedicated server and i wish to add a new IP to use on a specific website. However, when I am trying to add the IP in plesk i am getting the following error:

I have read somewhere on the forum that installing iptables can fix this but cents 7 is using the new firewald and i am wondering if in the future such a change will not affect the well being of the overall server.
Is there any solution to this problem or will there be a fix from Plesk in the near future ?

Plesk is reporting that it cant install magento because php-mcrypt is missing. So I tried the following:

Oct 27, 2014I am trying to install Plesk 12.0 on fresh CentOS 6 (64bit). It goes as far as initialising the databases and then moans about missing files:/usr/bin/sw-engine: error while loading shared libraries: libpng12.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
I then install libpng
$ yum install libpng.x86_64
Re-run installer and hits next error - libfreetype:
/usr/bin/sw-engine: error while loading shared libraries: libfreetype.so.6: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directoryI have CentOS-base repo and Epel repo enabled.
Why are those files not being installed as dependencies by Plesk? Is this a bug ?

Sep 5, 2014I'm running a CentOS 6 server with Plesk 11.0.9 installed. It's only being used for dev purposes with only a couple vhosts running on it. All of the vhosts are using PHP - there are a few WordPress sites and Zend Framework 2 applications running. Up until a few months ago it was also running a high traffic WordPress site, but that's no longer the case.
This server has been running without problems for over a year. A few days ago I first started noticing 503 errors (Service Temporarily Unavailable) on accessing one of the vhosts from the web browser.
I logged on through ssh and noticed the load was a bit higher than I expected (nothing crazy though). All other vhosts using PHP also gave me the same error. The only vhost that was working normal was a Ruby on Rails app (Redmine).
I also did a netstat -napt and noticed many connections from two or three IP addresses. I checked their geographical location and after blocking them through iptables the problem seemed to have gone away.
Now it's a few days later and the same problem started popping up. I checked again through netstat and noticed that again a whole bunch of connections from only a handful of IP addresses were connected to Apache.
When I was digging deeper I noticed that some of those IP addresses were what looks to me like other servers (at least they're running Apache). I'm suspecting they are hacked servers and they're trying to use my server to send spam or some other type of evil.
I just blocked those new IP addresses in iptables and that seemed to have solved the problem for now again, but I want to solve the root of the problem.
So my questions are:
1) How can I find out to what vhost those clients are connected?
2) Why does Apache stop working with not that many client connections, when it used to serve thousands of visitors at the same time when that big site was still running on this server?
3) What could they possibly be using my server for? The first time it happened I thought that they found some leaking WordPress plugin to use to spam people, but today I checked and there's barely anything in the mail queue.

Access_log and error_log are being rotated around 10AM daily for my server.
But for busy days access_log and error_log gets very big to inspect. Is there any way that I can manually reset the logs for the time being but without changing the daily rotation time?

Jun 4, 2015I have been using managed servers for all of my webhosting career. I just decided to try to do it all on my own and of course, here come the growing pains.
I went with Linode for my new hosting provider. I followed their guides to get the initial setup done, minus setting up MariaDB.
I then went ahead and installed Plesk 12. The install went off without a hitch. But, now that I try to hit my hostname:8443, I get a 404.
I have done the following in an attempt to resolve the issue:
- Restart the server
- Restart the sw-cp-server
- Remove the /etc/sw-cp-server/conf.d/agent.conf (which didn't exist)
I do have the following firewalld rules in place:
firewall-cmd --zone=public--add-port=8443/tcp --permanent
firewall-cmd --zone=public--add-port=8447/tcp --permanent

Jun 23, 2014I have the following problem, the files and folders generated by PHP are hidden in FTP.
I can see in the Plesk file manager that users, permissions and groups are the same for all files and folders (those that can be seen and those that cannot be seen from FTP).
All the options in the server are set by default. It is a new installation of Plesk 12.0.18 #4 in CentOS 6.5 (Final).

Jan 31, 2015For some reason I am having issues with latest Plesk with php and wordpress. HTML sites are fine, but all php and wordpress sites are giving a 502 error after fully migrating. I repaired with Webserver Configurations Troubleshooter and rebooted and its still giving me the same issue.Also, noticed my previous server had php 5.4.36, the new CentOS server has 5.4.37.
