LaneHost Not Holding Up To It's Guarantee, Refuses To Answer

Jan 3, 2009

I signed up with La(m)nehost not a short while back, I now wanted to make use of the guarantee since i'm not happy with there service.

I issued a ticket the 27th december 2008, requesting my money back since I wasn't happy with there services and they offer a 60back not-happy-money-back guarantee.

Till this very day it seems as Lanehost is REFUSING to respond to the ticket! I asked about the issue on the chat and just got a lame answer "you should log a ticket"...

What can I do against this? I paid around 150dollar for a year (stupid enough).

I was about to start my own hosting company, and this just sets me back alot.

Web Host Holding My Files For Ransom

Oct 13, 2009

So heres the short story:

1) I had a VPS account at [url](now hosting.com) for 2+ years.

2) My credit card expired so they suspended/disabled my account because they couldn't charge it.

3) I decided that I wanted to find a new host.

4) I asked for my files.

5) They said no because the account is disabled because of non-payment for 40+ days and that I'd need to pay the balance and then reactivate my account at the new pricing structure (which is $30+ more per month).

Is this even legal? Seems like extortion to me, but then again I am not a lawyer.

WireSix.com - Holding Servers And Payment Hostage

Apr 22, 2008

I had two servers with wiresix, for the most part support was OK (not the best, but not really bad) and Ryan was responsive to AIM and emails. At one point I no longer needed my dedicated server with them as I had moved everything over to my Colo server. I submitted a ticket to cancel the server (i gave 45 days) and request confirmation from them which I never got. AS the time got closer for that server to go away I started getting longer and longer response times to IM and support. Because of this I felt the need to cancel my colo box and get it shipped to a DC by me as not to be left stranded by a host that didnt care.

I submitted another cancellation request (about 6 weeks in advanced) and again got no response. About this time the dedicated server was supposed to go offline. I got invoiced and charged for it so I opened another ticket asking for a refund for a server that had been canceled. No responses, on anything. Now it comes time for the colo box to be taken offline...

I requested it be taken offline and shipped out a little bit earlier then the actual date. I provided shipping information. I also noted they can use the payment that should have been refunded to cover the shipping costs. This was the first of April. I am borrowing a server from a coworker for my customer who is supposed to be on the colo server. No big deal right, borrow a server for a few days and then move the customer back to the new server...Right?

Wrong. As of this date Ryan still has all my servers online, in the rack and will not even respond to my tickets or AIM. I cant even get in touch with him (or the rest of wiresix) to allow a friend of mine to goto the datacenter and pick up the server. The refund? Who knows... At this point I am convinced Ryan is angered that I am leaving and is hold my colocated server and my payment hostage. I have no other explanation.

I have attached an image file (with some information whited out) with the tickets and the last response times intact. Please I urge everyone DO NOT USE WIRESIX. If you do, do not ever cancel or you will never see your hardware.

At this point, I do not think I have any other choice but to contact my lawyer or the Atlanta Police department for the theft of my hardware.

3rdrockhosting Holding Refund Payment Hostage

Sep 4, 2008

I signed up for 3rd Rock Hosting's smallest plan and pre-paid a year because it was inexpensive and after EpicVPS's server magically deleted everything I had no reason to use a bigger host as my data was gone and my most recent backup was too old to do me much good.

The account got set up immediately, however there were problems such as my bandwidth allocation and number of email accounts and such were half of what they were quoted to be on the webpage. Ok, got a ticket in and got that sorted out no problem.

Then, something happened to 3rd Rocks upstream host and the site was down for two days about two weeks into hosting. They've had this problem before and I knew about it and decided to chance it. Bad decision I guess.

A week ago or so I got an email telling me to change my DNS as they moved to a new server. What? New name servers? Ok. I use my own DNS but updated the A records to the new IP's. This is where the trouble began, once everything resolved I could access my panel but none of my pages load! It just loads a blank screen and even view source doesn't show any of my php pages. I logged into the account via FTP and sure enough my files/data are there.. just nothing loads.

Not having to want to deal with this headache I politely asked my account be canceled and the 30 day refund honored. I was greeted by Mark asking if I changed my nameservers and when I told him I had modified my nameservers to reflect the new IP's he offered me two free months.

I stated that with the trouble I've had in the last 30 days; going past the 30 day trial would give me no 'out' if more trouble occurred. Mark stated he'd give me a refund 'ASAP'. This was Sept 1st. There's been no refund and I've shot off two more questions in the support ticket without answers. My 30 day 'guarantee' ends in just a few more days so I'm trying to get this done before hand of course.

I'm -> <- this close to filing a paypal complaint and escalating it. Being incommunicado with me for 2 days while you scrounge up $20 bucks is baffling.

Does Uptime Guarantee Really Matter

Jan 13, 2009

Just looking for opinions on uptime guarantees. Does anyone actually look at those guarantees anymore? Or is it just assumed that every host now a days is up 99.9% of the time.

The reason I ask is that it appears that every host has one, but I haven't really ever experienced one myself.

Do VPS Providers Guarantee Performance

Apr 28, 2008

I recently signed up for a VPS server with VolumeDrive. I am going to be launching a large website in less than a month and right now I just have a Coming Soon page and a Wordpress blog. My response time is really poor. It takes about 10 sec to pull up my blog and I have complained. They told me that they are going to move me to another server shortly.

Do hosting companies guarantee performance in a VPS environment? I know you are sharing the physical server with other VPS servers so what is to say that this new server will not have the same problem? I thought providers were able to set bandwidth/system limits on VPS servers to stop this from happening? Do you recommend that I just take the expense and go dedicated or should I look into moving to a different hosting provider?

Reseller Refuses To Release EPP Key

Jan 11, 2007

We signed up with Cyberheart IT Online because they claim to be a BusinessTrust and Trustsg Company for web hosting (from January 2006 until January 2007) and 3 domain registration and a sql database.

During the year we had 3 main problems as follows;
1. unable to log in via web mail and each time we asked Cyberheart on this the reply is not to use web mail as it is unstable despite us telling them that we travel often and need the service which is included in the hosting plan.

2. When we logged into our web control panel to perform administration, we received messages saying that another user was logged into the system. We asked Cyberheart about this but received no reply or no solution.

3. We initiated a transfer to another Hosting company on the 20th of December 2006. Cyberheart replied to my email with explanation of what issues they had and I should move to their new server. We refused and asked Cyberheart to affect the transfer.

Cyberheart asked for DNS numbers after we sent repeated emails to ask them the status but delayed the transfer and withheld the correct EPP key until one of my critical domain expired on the 07/01/2007.

My new hosting company in the US advises me to renew my domain with Cyberheart so that we can continue with the transfer as they cannot do anything until Cyberheart provides the correct Authentication or EPP key. We suffered with our websites down and emails not working.

We asked registrar WEB COMMERCE COMMUNICATIONS LIMITED DBA WEBNIC.CC to intervene and only after did Cyberheart reply on the 10/01/2007 that we had outstanding invoice and Cyberheart will not provide the EPP key until we paid. We asked for the invoice to affect the payment and Cyberheart did not reply until the second reminder email today (11/01/2007). In the email (with no invoice) Cyberheart asked for $129.00 per domain name renewed which totals $258.00. The initial quoted amount was $18.00 per domain registration.

We have sent another email today to ask for a official corrected bill, still no reply.

We want the Authentication key to affect the hosting transfer. We do not want any other dealings with this unethical company but do not want to be bullied into paying what Cyberheart arbitrarily charge.

The One Hour Support Guarantee

Feb 18, 2007

There are many of us who choose web hosting services for their website based on a number of factors like price, web space provided, server uptime etc. Honestly any web hosting package which provides about 5 GB of web space under US $20 per month is fine to me. And of course most web hosting companies will tell you that they provide 99.9% uptime which honestly is not lived up to by 90% of the companies out there. Any technical person can tell you that there are large numbers of issues that creep up while running a web hosting service which makes it very difficult to actually provide 99% uptime.

For me, the single most important aspect of a web hosting service is its support and what kind of guarantee they give on their technical and customer support. Things can go wrong in any service, but how fast you rectify it is the most important thing. And not just that, website owners have different technical levels. Some might need help for the most basic features while some would require more complex support for the databases, scripts etc.

A good web hosting company would always provide 1 hour support guarantee to you for your queries. Even if a query is complex and the support staff needs to consult their administrators, programmers etc, it is always nice for a customer to be updated of what is going on and whether they can solve it immediately or after consultation with various people working in the web hosting company.

It can be very irritating for you if have opened a support ticket and next thing you know its been hours or even days before anyone has bothered to respond to you and all you have got is an automated response. Obviously once you open a support ticket, you do get an automated response saying your query has been received but I always look out for in how much time do I receive the second automated response telling me a member of the support staff has checked your query and replied to it. That shows the competence level of the web hosting company and how much they actually care about their customers.

In conclusion, whether you are looking for a web hosting service for your new website or are looking to transfer web hosts, make sure you check whether the service offers a 1 hour support guarantee on their website. Don't be fooled with offers of web space, email accounts or even uptime guarantees. It's the support that will make the big difference in your web hosting experience.

CPanel Refuses To Fix Cross-site Request Forgery

Aug 3, 2009

apperently cPanel does not wish to fix a cross-site request forgery because it would be a so called feature. Maybe due the weekend someone had a drink to many

Anyways ; from The register:

Quote:

The vulnerability in cPanel is triggered by luring a user to a malicious website while logged in to the program, which is one of the most widely used web-hosting applications.

The attack is able to trick cPanel into carrying out sensitive commands by making it appear as if they came from the victim.

"If you logged in as root and you hit my website or you hit any website I control, I can do anything I want," Bailey said. "I can reset your root password, I can upgrade software, I can modify any setting I want. That's scary and that's bad."

Even more troubling, Bailey continued, was the reply he got when he notified cPanel officials of the bug. "The response I got from cPanel was we can't fix this because it's a feature. Apparently, they're worried it's going to break integration with third party billing software, so they can't fix this."

Angry With GoDaddy. Trying To Host Site On OSX But It Refuses To Be Visible

Sep 1, 2008

I've been running a GoDaddy Windows server with YetAnotherForum software for my forums. It's dog slow... it takes at least 30 seconds to load a page, even longer if you are making a post.

So, I've set up one of my macs to run UPB software and I have it run 24/7. The forum works, the flatfile database runs great, and it works on my network of computers. But here's the problem. Nobody else can see it.

Sometimes the link just hangs, but mostly it just gives an error saying "The connection to the server has been reset". Is it because the server is connecting wirelessly?

Infinitie.net - No Service, Beyond Slow, Refuses To Refund Money Paid

Jul 28, 2007

I signed up with service from infinitie.net after seeing an offer they had on this link [url]

This was on July 21st about 8PM EST. Link above states "PLEASE ALLOW UP TO 2 HOURS FOR YOUR NEW VPS ACCOUNT ACTIVATE ONCE ORDERED."

First reply took 8hrs, second 9hrs, third 5hrs, and to this date I haven't heard back from them since Jul 23, 2007 2:32 PM EST.

Incomplete login details were issued on Jul 23, 2007 2:32 PM EST. However, message stated "CPanel is finalizing its install and will be complete in 2 hours." I immediately asked them to please advise when setup is complete on Jul 23, 2007 2:56 PM EST. After not hearing anything back I decided to cancel and emailed request at Jul 24, 2007 2:54 PM EST.

I have a couple services I'm happy with elsewhere. I more or less just wanted to separate an account and see what other options were out there. I wasn't bothered by the fact setup was slow. The main issue was if they take this long to reply and handle simple issues prior to setup, what happens if I'm setup one day and there is a more serious issue? Since initial cancel request I attempted to contact them on several other occasions by both direct email and their ticket system. I never received a response other then the standard automatic "Thank you for writing to Infinitie's Support Team."

I have disputed transaction with paypal today. At a last attempt I emailed infinitie.net yesterday and told them unless refund was issued this is action I would be forced to take. No response so I proceeded. I will update and let you all know how this turns out.

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: DNS Firewall - No IPV6 Answer To ICMP Requests

Nov 9, 2012

I've discovered an annoying problem in Plesk 11.

When you register a .fr domain name, you need to have a Success ZoneCheck at [URL] ....

The test fail because the server didn't answer to ICMP IPv6 requests.

Error: The server does not listen to or does not answer in UDP on the port 53 (on the IpV6)

My question is: How to open port 53 on IPv6 for ICMP requests ?

This is functional with IPv4 But not IPv6.

There are some rules in the Plesk Firewall, but it seems not working at all.

Hostgator - "45 Day Money Back Guarantee"

Jul 27, 2008

Before i start i would just like to mention i had this problem about 8-10 months ago but fought this would be useful to share.

I bought the hostgator swamp shared hosting package for a website me and my friend were going to make.

Long story short my friend didnt have to much time in his hands so pulled out so a was left with hosting that i didnt need, so about 30-35 days in i cancelled the account, Hostgator claim that if you cancel your account with them no more than 45 days being with them the will issue a full refund.

I waited the full 3-5 business days they say it takes to issue the refund, I never recieved that refund, i gave them another week still no sign of the money.

After numerous chats with live operaters and opening tickets, i still hadn't got anywhere, live operaters where giving me coupons to make up for the refund ( but thats still not good enough ) and the operaters answering the tickets were saying they had issued the refund.

I just decided to forget about it.

The service was good though in that period of time they, such as changed my main domain name for me for free because i was a new customer.

So what do you think about this ?
