Email From X Domain Is Labeled As SPAM By Hotmail And Google ( MX Records? )
Dec 29, 2006
One of my hosted domains have an email problem, every email account that is hosted on that site, is able to send and recieve email, but when sending to gmail or hotmail, it is delivered as SPAM.
Someone told me it is because this domain doesnt have a MX record at the DNS zone..
What is the sintax for the MX record ? I have enterd A(ddress) and CNAME records, but never MX records.. can anyone tell me how to do it so I can send mail in the way it should be.

I cannot figure this out.. I have tried EVERYTHING..
I am running a php script using the mail() function and sending an email..
I have had reverse dns point to the domain
I set an SPF record
My IP is not blacklisted.. I have had the dedicated server for 2 years now also
I modified a few things in the sendmail files.. I am stuck..
I am running freeBSD.. My buddy has his server set up with all of the same sendmail settings being the same.. and his emails don't get flagged..

I just got a vps and I realised that all email sent to hotmail automatically goes into the spam box (until i approve an email address as being "safe").
I believe that hotmail's senderid and a spf record is the way to go
I have already submitted the senderid form saying i dont have an spf record
for the "domains to be added to the senderid program", i listed a couple of my domains.
1) do i still need an spf record?
2) in the future, will i need to tell customers to use outgoing mailservers under one of the domains i submitted (in the senderid form)?

I have a dedicated server in which i host 4 web sites using plesk one of them is mysite.com. That one is also set for ns1.mysite.com ns2.mysite.com.
(all domain names below are just example names)
Dns records for my apple.com orange.com and banana.com uses ns1.mysite.com and ns2.mysite.com my name server is also in the same machine.
In mysite2.com dns settings are as follows.
Code:
80.111.11.11 / 24PTRorange.com
orange.com.NSns1.mysite.com.
orange.com.NSns2.mysite.com.
orange.com.A80.111.11.11
orange.com.MX (10)mail.mysite.com.
orange.com.TXTv=spf1 a mx include:gmail.com,yahoo.com,hotmail.com ~all
ftp.orange.com.CNAMEorange.com.
mail.orange.com.A80.111.11.11
webmail.orange.com.A80.111.11.11
www.orange.com.CNAMEorange.com.
80.111.11.11 is dedicated ip for orange.com.
The PROBLEM:
The thing is whenever the server sends email it is flagged spam by yahoo, hotmail etc. I have created SPF for my orange.com but it is still marked as spam...
I have checked dns report for both mysite.com and orange.com but they seem to be OK with no warnings either.
I want to create a spf record or make somthing so the emails does not marked as spam.

Right, I have my email address (say email@domain.co.uk) connected to my DirectAdmin controlled server.
I have an the simple email services provided by 1and1 that I haven't used for ages.
I am a bit confused how multiple MX records can be used, so far I have edited my DNS record file for domain.com to look like this:
Code:
domain.co.uk.14400INMX5mx00.1and1.co.uk.
domain.co.uk.14400INMX10mx01.1and1.co.uk.
domain.co.uk.14400INMX0domain.co.uk.
If im not mistaken the above show the email server domain.co.uk is connected to (domain.co.uk) is the primary server, with 1and1 2nd and 3rd.
However if I changed the priorities all to the same value, i.e "0" would that mean the mail is delivered to all?
My ideal solution would be, if the primary server was down, send mail to secondary, but that leads me to another problem. When I want to check mail with Thunderbird its connected to imap.domain.co.uk and not imap.1and1.co.uk, so the problem now is mail split over two servers....! I would like a redundant system, to ensure email is online 99.999% of the time.
So my question is, what are peoples current solutions with multiple MX records, and how have they achieved 99.999% uptime of emails.

I've been getting a lot of "Undeliverable" emails sent to my email address. On these messages, the spammer is using my email on the "From" part of the email...... So whenever he sends out spam, the person(s) getting spammed think it's from me..... And the thousands of Undeliverable email error messages are also sent to me.
Is there a way to stop this from Happening? ....... Besides changing my email address?

i have a vps and although i can send mails without problem from my main root account, sending via any of the child accounts created for customers results in their email being picked up as spam (in hotmail at least).
To clarify, mydomain.com is my main name. Email can send without problem,
customersdomain.com, hosted on the same machine, when sending emails they are picked up as spam. The mx dns entries in the zone file are set (by default to) customersdomain.com. and for all the child domains customer1domain.com. etc.
Do i need to ask the datacenter to add a reverse dns entry for mail.mydomain.com?
Is this an issue with the mx records for the hosted domains? Should i change the hosted domaims mx entry on the customers domains to mail.mydomain.com?
I know the ip isnt blacklisted because exactly the same email goes through when sending from the mydomain.com email addresses.

I have problem, because all e-mails I send from my server (even using e-mail client) to hotmail.com mailboxes are moved to "junk mail" folder. I tried all settings mentioned at [url]... My domain has SPF records (mails pass spf tests), rev-dns and it isn't blacklisted anywhere. My domain name is fusker.pl. What should I do ? I contacted Hotmail, but it'll probably take ages to get answer from them This issue is serious, because 90% of ppl on my mailing list uses hotmail.com To make everything even more interesting, e-mails from my other server don't reach hotmail.com mailboxes at all (everything is configured right and there is no error msg in logs, only "message queued for delivery") - however I don't care about it right now, because there are no active websites on it.
Here's one of such e-mails with headers:
X-Message-Delivery: Vj0zLjQuMDt1cz0wO2k9MDtsPTA7YT0w
X-Message-Status: n:0
X-SID-PRA: fusker (a) fusker.pl

You can prevent the user nobody from sending the mail from WHM as follows. Please select the option "Prevent the user "nobody" from sending out mail to remote addresses" from WHM >> Main >> Server Configuration >> Tweak Settings >> Mail option.

I have been having problems with my current host (GoDaddy), they only allow 50 simultanious connections at one time and unfortunately my site has been a victim of an exploited program they offer - Aardvark Topsites where a few sites have developed a way to exceute small scaled DoS attacks to sites operating this program. GoDaddy has been trying to block these sites with htaccess files but have had no sucess. Very long story so to my question,
My domain name is registered with GoDaddy, and my hosting is with them. My email is forwarded to Google Apps through the CName and MX records which GoDaddy doesnt like either.
If I cancel my hosting account with them my email should still be ok shouldnt it? Since the place the email is directed to is in the domain name records not in the hosting. Ive asked GoDaddy as well and I think the email should still work but GoDaddy has a way of tying products together so you have to renew them as " a set" instead of being able to renew products individually. I dont use the GoDaddy email so I think it sohuld be ok even if they do cancel my hosting account and email since the email is really hendled by Google..

I just bought a new dedicated server, and when I try to apt-get something (anything like, bzip2, build-essential) I get this error:
Quote:
Media change: please insert the disc labeled
'Debian GNU/Linux 5.0.0 _Lenny_ - Official i386 CD Binary-1 20090214-16:29'
in the drive '/cdrom/' and press enter
I mean it's pretty self-explanatory, but seeing as how I can't put the CD in, because the box is not here, I have no clue what I'm supposed to do.
I've had a couple VPS's before, and never encountered this problem.
I'm running Debian 5.0 stable.

attending to clients and their email inbox limits is occuring more frequently
i'd prefer to minimize this chore, especially now i have some clients using IMAP it means the server fills up rapidly.
google apps -just for handling email- seems attractive (6GB free) compared to increasing the monthly fee for extra server space which seems to be kind of expensive at my webhost.
i would actually prefer to keep using the Webmail interfaces offered on the servers but i dont think my clients will change their bad habits of filling up their inbox, and lets not forget the increasing levels of SPAM.
what are other people doing with email?
are many people outsourcing it to google?
i'd appreciate any other ideas or suggestions.

I have problems sending emails from my VPS to Hotmail and Gmail email accounts. This is a new VPS with some new websites so they are not blacklisted for spam or anything like that.
After users register at my website they receive a welcome email, but with Hotmail/Gmail accounts they end up by default in the spam/junkfolder.
I also have a refer-a-friend and a forgot password form -> with gmail users they both end up in the spamfolder, with hotmail users they both do not show up at all!
I read somewhere that editing the DNS zone could solve this problem with adding a SPF record (see also [url]).
I have added the most common SPF record "v=spf1 a ~all" as TXT record type but after a few days nothing has changed.
so all email send from the VPS to Hotmail/Gmail email accounts will directly be send into the inbox.

A client has told me that his brother wants to put the company email on a remote server through Google. Currently the email goes via the hosting company.
He has asked me to send his brother the username and password for "updating domain information" so he can demonstrate what he is suggesting.
I am not really sure what he wants (as I always set up email via the hosting company and am not familiar with any other way): domain details or hosting company details with the email passwords etc? If the latter, I am not too happy about giving him access to all the website files that I am responsible for.
Does anyone know what he is talking about?
