Softlayer Review - Amazing Service

Sep 24, 2008

About a month ago I purchased my first dedicated server from Softlayer. I was originally with BurstNET, but due to some network issues at their datacenter I decided that it was in my best interest to move to a more premium network. Keep in mind that this is a review of Softlayer. It has absolutely nothing to do with my opinions on BurstNET (I actually love BurstNET).

My Review

Before I purchased my dedicated server I spoke with a live chat representative. We went over many things, and I believe we chatted for close to thirty minutes. After making my decision, I ordered the dedicated server. After I ordered the server, the person on the live chat session told me that she would be calling my phone for an order verification. This went very smoothly, it was completed within minutes of ordering.

I believe I waited a few hours for my server to be deployed. I thought it was quite nice that I didn't have to wait a day for it to be ready. That is definitely a plus in my book. After the server was deployed, I explored the Softlayer control panel, which is incredibly useful. I'm glad that I don't have to save my server login details anymore.

Unfortunately, after having my server for nearly a week, I experienced about six hours of downtime. This downtime happened between the hours of 12:00AM and 6:00AM EST. I wasn't really bothered by it (yes, it's downtime, but I know it's not something that happens a lot with Softlayer). I contacted Softlayer about it, and later received 10-15% off my next payment (I'm not sure whether it was 10% or 15%, but it was one of those numbers). I'm honestly not sure what caused the downtime. I think it had something to do with a power failure, but don't quote me on that -- I didn't read up on the outage. Apparently it only affected the servers in the Dallas datacenter, Server Room 4.

Once my server went online I experienced another problem (this time it was my fault). I called the Softlayer support line, and luckily talked to a guy who fixed the problem. I know that Softlayer isn't managed, so this was definitely helpful.

Overall, I'll say that Softlayer has been truly amazing. I love their pricing, their support, and their network. They've got a long-term client.

InterServed.com - Amazing Uptimes, Amazing Speeds, Everything Is Just Amazing

Aug 9, 2008

this is my sixth post but hopefully one that will make people realize that there are a lot of great webhosting companies out there such as InterServed. One host that I've been using for over two years now, and never had a problem with them.

These guys are really great, they have moved my database from a server to another for no fee, at all! It was all done in a matter of 30 minutes, unbelievable.

They are using the latest technology (in terms of software, hardware) and are using a PHP accelerator that I just love; XCache.

I never had to use their support because their uptimes are very close to 100%, and the fact that they provide you with everything that you will ever need makes their support ticket the least visited page on their website!

I am currently using them on [url]. Surely, that is not the biggest community, I am aware of this but I know another community that uses InterServed.com as well and have the exact same speed rate, see it for yourself:

www.trancesound.net

They even offer custom deals, but you'd have to contact them for this and you'd probably have to pay for some kind of yearly package!

They setup your account almost instantly and your domain is available within a few minutes!

Please note that I am not the owner of this webhosting company and I am not making this post for "comissions", because as you can see I have not posted any referral link and do not intend to.

I just want people to discover a great company that has a lot of potential, but needs customers because contrary to popular webhosting companies, they are actually showcasing the actual technical specifications which scares off the average internet user who is looking for a webhost. Instead of showing "UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH", they are showing the actual amount of bandwidth, but like I said, that scares off the average user, unfortunately.

Softlayer + Which Managment Service

Jul 18, 2008

I have a managed server at LiquidWeb, but my backup server solution is also through an individual with a LW server that will be staying with LW. For uptime, I believe I want to move my primary server to another company/datacenter and stay with the backup solution I have at LW.

It seems Rackspace would be one obvious choice for maximum uptime to allow for everything in one spot, but at first glance it will be more expensive than a server at Softlayer + hiring a company to manage the server. (I definetely need managed and while I'm no expert, it seems you'd then have a better network)

I guess my question is about which companies (if any) would specifically be better to manage a server at Softlayer? If anyone has this type of setup, have you ever experienced problems because the server/management are not interconnected? Does this solution have any effect on the response time to fix a problem over an all in one solution?

Anyone On Softlayer Using Separate Management Service

May 21, 2009

Is there anyone here using Softlayer for Windows dedicated servers but at the same time using a server management company to manage the same?

I use Platinum Server Management for my Linux server, but they don't do Windows. I'm looking for a Windows server management company who has experience with Windows 2008 Enterprise and MSSQL 2008 Standard.

I found the page listing all of the 3rd party server management companies, but what I want to hear are successful marriages between Softlayer and the management company based on experiences of real users here.

Softlayer Review - 1 Month

Apr 26, 2009

I have been with SoftLayer a month now, and this is my review of their company. I will start with my pre-sales experience, going into hardware, their network, server, portal, accounting/sales, and support .

[[[[[[[ PRE SALES ]]]]]]]

I started out looking for a new server by looking at some good dedicated hosts. I saw SoftLayer offered the new Nehalem series, so I went for it. Their sales team is excellent beyond all reasons -- the staff are personal and do NOT try to take your money; instead, they find the best-fit solution for you and work with you by calling you, showing you their specials, and talking to managers.

[[[[[[ HARDWARE ]]]]]]]

The Hardware at SL is top-notch. There's no problem with it, it's clearly stated in the portal what type of motherboard, HDs, RAM, etc are in the server and it's top-notch Supermicro hardware. I've never seen a problem with it, and I have seen the certificate of passing benchmarks as that is done on all SL servers by default.

Their provisioning system is excellent, I got my server in 2-3 hours at MAX. WOW! It is all inside the portal too; you can view the status (PE_BOOT, OS_RELOAD); it's clearly there and excellent. We finally got VIRTUOZZO (thanks natecarlson ) working with it too.

[[[[ SERVER ]]]]]

What can I say? This is the new Nehalem series. I think the deal I got was quite good, I brought several SL servers before I switched to this one, and it did take a while to get it down to this price (especially for SL quality, damn!) :

-Intel Dual Quad Core (2x) X5570 Nehalem 2.93GHZ w/ HT
-12 x 300GB SAS 15K Seagate Cheetah HD's in RAID 10
-12GB DDR3 RAM (to start)
-4000GB Monthly Bandwith
-1GigE Port Speed
-64 IP Addresses
-Monitoring & Automated Reboot
$1,100 a month -- which I think is good for this type of server.

It's blazing fast and 0 problems.

[[[[ NETWORK ]]]]

I started in their Dallas, TX datacenter with a Dual 5450, but decided to get a 2U server with SAS HD's. Sadly, they said they were out of stock in Dallas. They said they can get me an EXTRA DISCOUNT if I went to Washington DC. I live an hour or two from DC, so it was good for me. I debated, and talked to them, they said it was a great place and I went with their Washington D.C datacenter .

It's fast. Blazing fast. They have like 100GBPS connectivity -- with many backbone providers. I've never seen so many . I'm liking the nework speeds and it really is nice.

[[[[ PORTAL ]]]]

The best part. They have their 'manage.softlayer.com' and their mobile 'manage.softlayer.mobi' portals. They are excellent. I don't even need support, and when I do, it's there. I mean, I'm STILL exploring their portal system. It has so much stuff; "Instant cPanel Licenseing, Instant Firewall, Upgrades, IP's, OS reloads, Installs, Backups" -- I love it. It makes my life a lot easier and quiker. I've had a server with ThePlanet, HiVelocity, and more and SL portal blows them all away

[[[ SUPPORT ]]]

The support is great. In the times I need it, it's there. Within 15 minutes I get a response and usually in under an hour, a resolution. It's excellent in what they provide at an unmanaged rate, and the $3 tickets are great in my opinion for those quick issues that you just can't figure out. They even helped me with a bit of PHP help!

[[[ ACCOUNTING AND SALES ]]]

It's there any time I needed it. I got servers upgraded, downgraded, reclaimed, removed, created, OS reloaded, invoices adjusted, and it's there. They respond within 1 hour usually and it's great for a sales team. Personally it's awesome how they have excellent teams for support and sales! The reps are VERY nice and friendly too, and they offer some nice discounts .

[[[ OVERALL ]]]

I give SoftLayer a 10/10+. They are everything I expect from a provider (heck, they are better than most managed providers I've been with) and more. I urge you to try them out, they will try to fit your budget as good as you can do it.

SoftLayer 3 Month Review

Mar 15, 2008

I'd first like to follow up with my end at GNAX. I ended up going down to them on the 31st to pick up my colo server and get my refund. All went generally well, except for the "I'll be back in 5 mins" that took more than 30 mins for some sales/billing guy to get me my stuff. Signed some papers, and my money was refunded in full. In the end, a happy ending with GNAX.

Now, while all that was ongoing, I moved over to a dedicated server at Softlayer quick as I could because I knew with 100% certainty that Jeff would have my service terminated when I posted the chat log of him threatening me - a controversial decision I still stand by for what it's worth.

First, lets talk about sales with Softlayer. My God - I have never seen anything like this. With GNAX, sales would consist of me sending a ticket and waiting days, or it getting closed randomly, then having to wait more and more. A 48-hour max setup time with GNAX ended up being 5+ days and still no setup. Softlayer. I was doing Live Chat with an agent who was extremely helpful. Too move the process along quicker, I asked if I could call and speak with him, and sure enough, he game me a toll free number and I spoke with him through the entire ordering process. Not only was he extremely knowlegeable and helpful, but he also pointed me to a special I was unaware of where I got double the RAM and a second hard drive for free. I ended up ordering a dual core Xeon setup, but I actually got setup with a quad Core Xeon X3220. No mistake they said, they were just out of what I ordered so they gave me a quad core for the price of a dual core. And all of this happened in less than 4 hours. Yep, that's right. I went from on the phone with sales to having my brand new quad core for the price of a dual core with twice the RAM and HDD for free in under four hours. I was actually shocked. After being with GNAX so long, I had no idea that anything even under a 24 hour wait was possible (which it wasn't with GNAX btw), and they didn't hold my order because of being short on inventory like GNAX did - they just gave me a free upgrade with no delay!

With GNAX, I have never been able to be in such control of my server as I am now with Softlayer. With GNAX, lets say, I wanted to change or add reverse DNS for an IP, I would have to send a ticket and wait hours and hours and hours for them to do it. With Softlayer, I login to the portal, and click click type, click and it's done and live. All by myself! Their portal is the most powerful thing I have ever seen and it allows me to do and see everything.

Their support, I'm convinced, is second to none. I once had three days of downtime with GNAX because of a hardware problem (their hardware) they just couldn't fix. The motherboard has gone bad and I had to wait three days for them to find another identical motherboard to replace mine with. Apparently, they don't like to keep hardware on hand in case of emergency. In the mean time, I was faced with a lot of pissed off people who couldn't access the server for three days while all GNAX did was "we're looking, we're trying". Three days downtime is unacceptable, GNAX's support is just horrible. Phone support is essentially non-existent. When, on occasion, people pick up the phone, I'm simply told to submit a ticket and they'll get to it - when it's convenient for them. Support with Softlayer is drastically different, I can call support and pick their brains on technical problems for as long as I need. Recently, something went wrong when I was moving IP addresses around with my servers, and I was able to submit a ticket, call them, and they resolved it while on the phone with me. Some other small issues cropped up, and I replied to the ticket as it was non-urgent, and they had it fixed it about 20 mins. THAT people, is how support. Again, after being with GNAX for so long and having to wait hours, and sometimes days for support, having things fixed on the phone with me or via ticket in under 15 mins really caught me off guard.

Sales - part two.

Incredibly impressed with the sales and support I have seen so far, I recently ordered a second server. Again, I did this over the phone and was given an amazing deal - one not even on their site! In the end, it'll save me about $60/month on my second server. Pretty decent I say.

Other stuff.

They have a forum! That's not what's cool in itself, but it's cool that its integrated into my portal account. Now, GNAX has a forum too, but you first have to email GNAX and ask for their blessing to sign up there.

Another nifty thing about Softlayer is their developer API. Their API enables tons of cool things, like I can see my uptime and bandwidth usage from within WHMCS. With GNAX, I would have to go find which one of my logins for their seemingly hundreds of disintegrated services. Having everything being in one place and under one login with Softlayer.

Basically, if you need a dedicated server provider, choose Softlayer. Leaving GNAX (well, being forced out) and moving to Softlayer is the best thing that has ever happened to me an my company.

Softlayer Two Month Review

Oct 9, 2009

Alright, Ive been with them for a little over two months and I have been with them before. Their support is excellent, their servers' are excellent, their network is excellent, their portal is excellent, and not having to deal with Cogent directly is a joy.

I first singed on with them 11/9/08 till 12/29/08 everything went well I closed my account simply because I didn't need the server again.

My current server with them as of this post is $199.00/mth and I get the following

CPU : Xenon X3230 Quad Core @ 2.66 Ghz
Ram : 4GB
OS : Server Standard 2008 64 bit
1000 mbps 2 TB of bandwidth
Washington, DC Data Center
2x 250GB SATA II
174.37.243.170

Having a server with them has been nothing short of amazing zero downtime caused by them and most anything a managed host will do they will do for you free. I was having issues with routes and simply asked them and within ten minutes they had changed it according to what I would prefer. I have had a DoS attack before that was pushing 800 mbps of traffic and they sent me an email and I opened a ticket and they blocked the attackers' addresses at my switch. Very quickly and not much damage was done. Overall I'm very pleased and I would recommend them to anyone.

Cari.net Review? Softlayer Comparison?

Mar 10, 2008

I'm looking for a recent review of Cari.net. I have a ton of servers at softlayer (which has been great), but I've found similar servers offered at cari.net for 1/2 (!) the price. With the economy as it is, I certainly need to cut costs, but I don't want to jump into a disaster.

What I like about Cari.net:

-low monthly price ~1/2 price of SL (kentsfield server)

What I don't like:

- LARGE setup fee
- $50 additional for CentOS (why would they do that?)
- $50 reinstalls
- 15 minute reboots?
- No version #'s or model numbers on servers or software.

Do they treat their customers like idiots like their site does?

Do they try to nickle and dime you for everything?

SoftLayer Review After 6 Month (not Satisfied)

Aug 30, 2008

We have buy a dedicated server 6 month ago from Softlayer. Today they have disconnected our server without any warning.

Their reason:
This IP 75.126.165.*** appears to be hosting many fake bank and other fake websites. Due to the amount of abuse reports tied to this server and the overwhelming amount of fraudulent domains being hosted on this server, we have disconnected and will be reclaiming this server.

We don't know that this sites about fake bank & don't check this sites. We said to the softlayer that plz reconnect server till we terminate this fake sites. But they respond to us after 2 hours:

Quote:

Due to multiple AUP/TOS violations we are not able to reconnect this server. The decision is final and non-negotiable. This server will be reclaimed shortly.

& again we have update the ticket ( 4 hours ago ):

Quote:

I didn't know about those websites and you didn't warn us.
Will you provide us a backup please?

But they don't answer yet ( after 4 hours )!

First i want say that their support is very very bad. & second they don't allow disconnect our server without any warning. I want complaint from SL.

A2b2 Service Review

Jan 6, 2007

I'm coming upto a months service with a2b2 and have to say it's been a pleasure using the services. It might not all be fully automated with a nice gui but the service provides everything I need including stable servers for developing

Support = 5/5

The times i've been required to contact them they have replied fast and dealt with the issues i've had and have been polite and easy to communicate with during pre-sales also.

Network = 5/5

I cannot say i've noticed any downtime with them, I will admit i've not monitored the VS too closely but everytime i've tried and SSH session it's been there ready for use.

Server Speed = 5/5

After being with VPSlink for a few months and getting extremly tired of the slow diskspeeds it's been a dream using my VPS with a2b2. no lagging when typing commands.

I've got one of there £12.50 packages but minus CPanel as I wanted to build my own mailserver.

Service, Reliabilty and Support knock the socks off what VPSlink provide I can't speak highly enough of Rus and his team

I will be moving out of VPSLink this month since i've just finished configuring my development server with a2b2, I'm not going to post the url hosted with a2b2 but will provide it in a pm to a moderator if they require it as it's a dev platform I don't really want the world knowing the url

SiteGround Review - GREAT Service

May 25, 2008

I signed up with siteground yesterday and everything has been perfect. Uptime has been great, and server speeds are alright. Except the only thing I don't like is that it's fairly hard to find the place to submit a ticket, and their interface is a bit confusing.

I signed up with cliffsupport maybe 3 - 4 months ago, and they have been great. The techs really know what they are talking about, and they respond quickly.

HostV.com VPS = Amazing

Dec 9, 2008

It takes a lot for me to be impressed, but HostV has done just that.

I migrated my site over a month ago to a new VPS plan. Up until then I was residing on a FFmpeg shared hosting plan(A company here) which was terrible(up, down, impossible slow access, huge memory usage).

My support tickets at HostV have been answered within hours regardless of when I have created them. They have fixed some of my own screw ups without hesitation and in great time and even installed some apache modules for me. My sites load faster then google now a days.

I run two streaming video sites, a few medium size forums and a couple wordpress blogs.

My bandwidth over the past month has been higher then ever thanks to the reliable service of the FFmpeg enabled VPS. 750 gb later I could not be more impressed.

So, if anyone is considering making a switch to a VPS anytime soon look at HostV's plans. They have far succeeded any expectation I had going in considering what I am paying.

they provide a backup service through virtuozo that does not use your own disk space for free

HiVelocity Is Amazing

Aug 14, 2008

I am a webmaster in Hawaii and recently had a massive server upgrade. This was a hugely complicated process, and my host, HIVELOCITY.NET seriously came through for me.

Without any BS extra billing or attitude, they spent 30 days, patiently dealing with my frustrated emails, and ignorance. After 3 years of insanely positive support, they just kicked it over the edge and proved to me that they are the only host I need indefinitely. I have adult and non-adult sites and have required very intensive support.

HIVELOCITY has never tried to tell me "thats not within the scope of our support" like so many other hosts have. (EV1) They always resolve my problems without telling me " I need to learn shell better" or "you need to consider a managed hosting plan or a sys admin" I've heard this from so many BS hosts, it has driven me mad. So I thought i would help everyone looking for a reliable server and post here about my positive experience.

If you want a server thats run by people who care about your business, and show it, try HIVELOCITY.NET

Amazing, But Unusual...

Oct 23, 2007

Since a couple a days I have a hosting problem (500 error). My provider told me that I have a script who is using more resources then the shared hosting server allows. BUT, I only have 1000 uniques/day for all my sites. From my point of view, that wasn't enough to explain it. So I dug a little bit in my stats:

Last 5 days. Stats from my hosting
Thursday : 483 uniques
Friday : 403 uniques
Saturday : 508 uniques
Sunday : 53,835 uniques???
Monday : 75,964 uniques???

Most of this traffic came from : 163data.com.cn

I don't think it's a "legit" traffic, because Google analystic gave me only 11 uniques yesterday and Adsense +/- 125 impressions.

My Amazing Experience With DreamHost

Nov 14, 2007

I started a small site on their cheapest shared hosting. Well, it got pretty big and one day blew up. I got 12,000 unique visits(30K actual visits) within about 10 hours. The load this put on the shared server was bogging down everyone who was also on the server. DreamHost disabled my site until the load went down. Thats fine by me, its shared hosting and I was affecting other people. Would have been awesome if DH would have TOLD ME that they disabled my site. I realized the next day my site was offline. Everything within the Control Panel looked fine, I couldnt figure out wtf was wrong. So I send in a support e-mail and Im promptly replied with a generic automated message telling me Ill be helped shortly. About 30 hours later Im finally told my site was put offline due to the suddenly large amount of resources it was taking.

They refused to turn my site back on until I made my coding more efficient. Even after I reassured them that there wouldnt be that many visitors anymore, as the 2 days offline pretty much guaranteed to kill over half my traffic. Nope, I still had to change the site.

Whatever, I made it more efficent, used a cache so it wasnt pulling the page from a DB every time it was visited. Were now at three and a half days offline, awesome.

They still dont believe this is efficient enough. I switch to their VPS service and this satisfied them. They agree to turn the site back on now. 5 days offline. Im getting maybe 100 unique visits at this time.

After about 10 days of their VPS service(WOW their VPS blows donkey balls) I send an e-mail to have it cancelled and just go back to shared hosting. "As your site requires a lot of resources, your cancellation has been denied." At this point Im pretty irritated. My reply is "No offense, but thats wasnt a request. Ive moved to JaguarPC(you guys rock!) VPS service and I would like to go back to my shared hosting. I thank you in advance for doing this for me."

2 days later they say its switched. Oh yea. BTW, you pay daily for the VPS. It just adds on to your shared hosting costs, and yes I had to pay for those 2 days.

Skip ahead 2 months. I get an e-mail saying Ive been billed from DreamHost. This is normal, as my $10 shared hosting account is still active. Only this bill is for $80. Ive just been charged for 2 months worth of VPS and 2 months of shared hosting out of nowhere.

After about 6 e-mails(and 3 days) to their support team Ive finally got a response from a real person, only to tell me that hes forwarding my email to another tech support person that can "better help me". Whatever, do what you do DreamHost. Were now at a week(and 4 more emails asking whats going on, etc) when I get another response. Hey, my problem has been forwarded again. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.

So, two weeks later, I finally get my refund with a "We apologize for any inconvenience." e-mail.

MMHosting.com - AMAZING HOST

Mar 12, 2008

I just recently registered a friend's site that I did for her on MMHosting, at first I was a bit skeptical of the prices and the size of the storage and bandwidth. However, I was quite surprised to see that the space is actually available on the Cpanel. I doubt we'll ever really use that much space or bandwidth, but it's nice to know the bandwidth is there if we need it.

More importantly, the customer service has been amazing. If I have a question about the hosting, I submit a ticket and it's generally answered within 30 minutes to 2 hours. They have been more than helpful and provided me links and examples of the answer to the question that I had asked.

MMHosting now has one satisfied new customer, and seeing as I make websites for people all day long everyday, and they always ask me if I know of a good place to host, I will now swear by MMHosting.

Also, I do have plans to move my other two websites to MMHosting very shortly.

Thanks for everything guys you're doing a fantastic job!

Customer service is really what makes the difference in picking a hosting company, and as far as I've seen, MMHosting has it down.

Pacificrack 3 Week Review -- Absolutely Excellent Service

Sep 22, 2008

After using Pacificrack before we had considered to use them again, however the coverup thread certainly made us think but we decided to give them another go, however Chris Gotzmann was extremely helpful via MSN and we secured an excellent deal on a Core2Quad server.

Sales:
After speaking with Chris via MSN we came to a deal on a Core2Quad Q6600 server. Chris promptly created my client account and generated an invoice, I paid for it and the server was deployed and ready to go 10 hours later, Excellent.

Support:
The support before when we used them was excellent, Support ticket's answered in 10 minutes or less and the support now is still at that level if not better as some of our tickets get answered in under 60 seconds. We have put in several tickets this month and all issues have been resolved in under 10 minutes after getting an inital reply within 1-5 minutes.

Network:
I cannot really fault their network, it provides unbelievably good download speeds to the UK and good ping times, there have been only a couple of very minor hiccups this month but it only affected service for around 1-5 minutes if that.

Overall:
I am extremely happy with Pacificrack, their service is as good as it was before and Chris and the team have been extremely helpful and supportive to me. I cannot really fault their service and I hope to continue using them.

Sales Rating:
8/10, Sometimes took a little bit of time to get a response on email

Support:
10/10, Cant fault it and cant complain at reply times

Network:
9/10, Other than the couple of minor hiccups, no complaints here

I have submitted an IP address/domain to the mods for verification.

1 Year Review Of JaguarPC -> Excellent Service & Hosting

Feb 1, 2007

It has been one year today that I have had a VPS with JaguarPC. It has been a pleasurable experience.

From day one I received prompt curious service from their sales department and support the few times it was needed.

I was overseas on trip to Bulgaria and Turkey right after setting up my VPS. I messed up something just before I left that caused the VPS to crash while I was away. It was my error - I was out of the country and my assistant who knows little about running a VPS was able to get out an email to me in Bulgaria. I opened a ticket with support and gave them my friends email address so they could work with him and that was all it took.

Support had my system up and running in no time even though I messed up.

The VPS has run perfect since. Just recently my VPS was moved from the Houston Data Center to the Atlanta Center. The migration went great and the new server is outstanding. Fast and very responsive. WHM/Cpanel a resource hog as it is loads almost instantaneously now. Two Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) 2210 Processors! The VPS has only 8.3% of memory usage with no disk swapping. SATA drives in RAID 10. My old server was always at 46% which still was good.

Regardless of what you may read here from some grippers - you too can have a good experience at JaguarPC.

Right now you can get 15% off for life on a VPS - if you are looking for a powerful server to have a VPS on the current ones Jag is selling are it! (till Feb 15)

I am no employee of JaguarPC just a happy client who wants to tell the truth about my one year anniversary with the company.

The company has a great forum where a good group of old time customers help other customers with installs or whatever with their hosting needs. Even the resident wacko VIN DSL is a big help when he wants to be

They continue to improve all faucets of the company with new ideas and services -that along with the continuous hiring of an excellent team of sales and service personnel as the company grows make it so that I can look forward to another good year at JaguarPC.

Medialayer Hosting - Amazing Services

Sep 22, 2008

I shifted my website universalteacher.com from yahoo to Medialayer in July 2008 because yahoo has a very bad customer support. You can read my review about yahoo here:
[url]

The support provided by medialayer is excellent. Whenever I contact them, they reply within 1 hour. Mostly I have got reply within 15 minutes. The executives are knowledgeable and very helpful.

I am located in India and Medialayer is in US. I always contact them in odd hours. Please see the following query that I asked when I was testing wordpress MU on one of my sites at 6:13 AM and i got the reply at 6:26 AM. The second query i asked at 12:40 PM and got reply at 12:48 PM ....

Limestone Networks - Amazing Experience

Aug 28, 2008

I've been using these guys for a little over a month. After a couple weeks, i got a 2nd server from them. Their web account panel is very well done, their special offer going on right now is great, they deliver on exactly what they say. Their customer service is also amazing. I'm sorry if this isn't the correct format for a review, its my first time. I just felt the need to tell others about this, easily my favorite dedicated server provider i've dealt with.

VectorLevel - Intial Impression = Amazing

Nov 10, 2008

I finally decided to go with vectorlevel after my last topic and researching some more and I'm completely amazed by how seamless the process was. I signed up on nov 5th and got my account information in a few minutes. Now I'm pretty knowledgeable about all the new technology stuff such as computers and tvs, but I'm pretty much a newbie in web hosting. I have always wanted to start a personal blog but had no idea what I needed with domains and hosting. Vectorlevel assisted me with getting my own domain (woot) and showed me how to install wordpress with "Installatron" which was pretty cool. My blog loads very quickly almost just like any of those big company websites like google.

Singlehop - 1 Year Review Of Dedicated Server And Customer Service

Sep 23, 2009

just want to say this forum kicks some serious arse. It helped me out tremendously with a potential scam that I almost got myself caught in this morning. Secondly, since I am on here posting this morning I might as well post up a one year review of Singlehop.com and the dedicated server I am using.

My websites hosted on rig: www.svtsnake.com, www.nsgcenter.com, www.nextlevelhardware.com
My host: SingleHop
My sales rep: Miguel Villegas
My hosting package: Dedicated Server E8400, 2GB ram, 250GB HDD (non raid), Plesk CP with 5 domain license.
My monthly pricing: 189.00 even per month

At the beginning of my term about a year ago I was achieving 2.1 to 3.0 MB/s throughput down and close to 500 KB/s up which is excellent and really incredible for working on SSH Secure Shell for me with uploading and downloading DB files, etc. At this current point in time I have noticed a minor decrease in speed to around 1.5 MB/s download speeds and at nighttime hours around 700K, which is more than ample and still excellent IMO as you will see in this picture: http://nsgcenter.com/dlspeed.jpg

I am very happy with overall throughput of the server at almost all hours. You can check out overall network response time and server DB response by playing around with the vbulletin database I run at svtsnake.com. There is always a huge amount of concurrent users and never any slowdown.

Something else incredible for me with Singlehop so far is network downtime. I can honestly say, since my latest term with them. I was also a customer a few years ago and had a few issues with server downtime that I ceased being a customer with them because of it. However, I was refunded an compensated in a timely matter and everything was taken care of immediately.

However, it seems that as of recently they have improved there infrastructure tremendously because I have NOT been down for 1 second in over 7 months. Even when they schedule downtine, my server has never noticed it. My uptime has been 100% for every single day that I have owned this server on Singlehop.com.

There is one issue that I can say I am very unhappy with, and it is an issue where all partys can be blamed even including myself. I am well aware that there policy states after 3 days of non payment they can shut down server connection. So, I was a customer for seven months when a new single hop account executive named Miguel Villegas joined the team and was my representative. I had changed my cell phone and never updated the file, and at the same time I own multiple businesses and frequently close and open different credit/debit/rewards cards to be used for processing payment. Note that I have never missed a payment with them up until this point. The payment was do on like the 18th of the month or something, and I received the invoice thinking that my credit card on file was automatically going to pay my bill like it always does. But it just so happens that the credit card I had on file with singlehop was stolen at a nightclub in NYC called MansionNYC, and I was pick pocketed. I lost all of my credit cards that night and called up to report all of them stolen. So, obviously I was issued new credit card and I was waiting for them to issue me new cards in the mail and new numbers, which took about 3 to 5 days with most companys. So, here I am 3 days late for payment and I wake up one morning and ALL of my websites are completely shut down. No notification, no warning, just closed and I got an email from Miguel Villegas my account representative explaing that my server was turned off until I remit payment.

I called up Singlehop and I was furiated, yelled almost at the top of my lungs that they simply just shut off a server, after 3 days of payment. Especially in a situation like this and they never even called me up to let me know they were doing this because my cell phone was different on file - which was mis-communication on my part. At this point in time I called up my bank HSBC and got an emergency debit card number to make the payment to Miguel through email and my server was re-activated.

But, 3 days after invoice is due to just cancel someones server or suspend it is definitely not good business policy. I have been a customers for almost a year and the whole incident was a fluke, they didnt have to suspend the server. In my business, we give a customer at least 30 days to pay a bill. But thats not the point, I know there policy states you have 3 days to remit payment or policy account suspension. But I think that is a horrendous policy, especially for emergency situations like I was in. What happens if the owner of a business is dying of an anyeurism in the hospital and is 3 days late with his web payment for his website, does singlehop simply suspend his 16 million hit per month vbulletin forum just because of lack of communication and payment?

I am still a longstanding customer with Singlehop but felt I needed to share that story with everyone. So, yes I am very happy with quality of service, speed of service, tech support, packages offered. But, I am very upset about there payment policy regarding 3 days of lack of payment that just aint right. I really like the attitude and business practices of the execs at the company and they are going to hate me for the negative feedback of my one bad incident with them, but overall Singlehop has my business and will have my business UNTIL either the server is offline every other week, or my DB crashes due to SInglehop issues. LOL Neither I think will be happening anytime soon.

Thanks for reading everyone. If anything, I hope Singlehop reads this and considers modifying there policy regarding server suspension and lack of payment maybe to something more like 10 to 15 days. Not 3 days.

Amazing - Bandwidth Thief Transfer - Magic Issue

Jul 24, 2009

I am undergoing "amazing" Bandwidth thief issue. My Server is using very high bandwidth from last 7 days -

On Scanning server, i found following

1) Roundcube mail script was compromised and used by some hacking group, so i deleted that directory all together

2) I disabled Hotlinking all together

3) I found "Live Chat" script also being compromised, and found movies (.dat files) in
it amounting to 20 GB++ , i also deleted that directory

4) I have checked for each and every file, with size more than 30 MB on server.

5) I have also switched off FTP service (and there is no other user on server too)

6) After all this, i even installed "mod_bandwidth" and limited bandwidth service to 10 KBPS across domain directory

Then, i installed MRTG graphs to analyze the issue, and to my SURPRISE, nothing changed, it still used very high bandwidth, after few - few hours.

http://img208.imageshack.us/img208/511/indexday.png

^^ the above image shows B/W goes upto 10 MBPS and thus breaks network.

I am now tired and exhausted of this. Can someone here, please give an expert advice on this issue?
