VectorLevel - Intial Impression = Amazing
Nov 10, 2008
I finally decided to go with vectorlevel after my last topic and researching some more and I'm completely amazed by how seamless the process was. I signed up on nov 5th and got my account information in a few minutes. Now I'm pretty knowledgeable about all the new technology stuff such as computers and tvs, but I'm pretty much a newbie in web hosting. I have always wanted to start a personal blog but had no idea what I needed with domains and hosting. Vectorlevel assisted me with getting my own domain (woot) and showed me how to install wordpress with "Installatron" which was pretty cool. My blog loads very quickly almost just like any of those big company websites like google.

this is my sixth post but hopefully one that will make people realize that there are a lot of great webhosting companies out there such as InterServed. One host that I've been using for over two years now, and never had a problem with them.
These guys are really great, they have moved my database from a server to another for no fee, at all! It was all done in a matter of 30 minutes, unbelievable.
They are using the latest technology (in terms of software, hardware) and are using a PHP accelerator that I just love; XCache.
I never had to use their support because their uptimes are very close to 100%, and the fact that they provide you with everything that you will ever need makes their support ticket the least visited page on their website!
I am currently using them on [url]. Surely, that is not the biggest community, I am aware of this but I know another community that uses InterServed.com as well and have the exact same speed rate, see it for yourself:
www.trancesound.net
They even offer custom deals, but you'd have to contact them for this and you'd probably have to pay for some kind of yearly package!
They setup your account almost instantly and your domain is available within a few minutes!
Please note that I am not the owner of this webhosting company and I am not making this post for "comissions", because as you can see I have not posted any referral link and do not intend to.
I just want people to discover a great company that has a lot of potential, but needs customers because contrary to popular webhosting companies, they are actually showcasing the actual technical specifications which scares off the average internet user who is looking for a webhost. Instead of showing "UNLIMITED BANDWIDTH", they are showing the actual amount of bandwidth, but like I said, that scares off the average user, unfortunately.

I signed up with Servint a few days ago and their staff has been very helpful in helping me get setup.
I got the essential VPS.
So far the staff has done the following for me
1. Updated subversion "version"
2. Explained to me how to transfer accounts
3. Assisted in setting up transfered accounts
4. Setting up nameservers
5. Told me how to have commands executed on startup
Their helpdesk is very organized and everyone responds fast. They are all so smart and know exactly what they are doing.
I have never had such a great experience with a hosting company.
The server speed is also very fast. I currently have 9 accounts setup in my vps plan.
[url]is one of them.
I just switched over the DNS, so you might not be hitting the servint server yet.
I highly recommend servint.

When you visit www.afreewebhost.com , you don't see an ugly portal with to many links, advertisements, etc... You get a nice...HTML website. That's right, no ASP, no PHP, but a simpel, but very good looking, HTML website.
Is it a bad thing? Yes and no. "Yes" because it has "founded and owned by one person" written all over it and "no" because my experiences with small or "one-man" companies have been much better then with companies with many employies.
Free Web Hosting
The free hosting offer looks good. Even though they require advertisements on your free site, the free hosting is not going to bring in any cash. 1GB webspace with 20GB traffic. That's more then enough for 90% of all websites on this planet. And a 468x60 or 120x600 banner and a textlink don't bother anyone. Most site-owners use Adsense or something simular to cover the montly costs anyways.
I do not own a free hosting account. But from the looks of it I think that both free and payed services offer the same features and support. The company is able to do that because they also make money with site-/banner-designs. The little bit of money that they might loose with free hosting can easely be covered by a few design-assignments.
Pro Web Hosting
You don't see it very often. A company that offers monthly prices and gives a discount for 3 months. Most companies only offer yearly sign-ups and some of them give a 14-30 day money-back guarantee. But if you are not aware of everything you "agree" to when you sign up for a year and/or when you do not have a valid reason for asking your money back, you will not get it back.
4$/month for 5GB with 100GB traffic or 3$/month for the same deal when you sign up for 3 months. Personally, I think those prices are very realistic. The best deal is to go for 3 months offcourse. And the more expensive packages have the same "GB for the buck" value.
The most expensive package will cost you 22$ for 50GB webspace with ONLY 500GB traffic.
Yes, I say ONLY, because for that amount of money there are better deals out there. Don't get me rong, I still think this is a realistic price.
But, and there is a bug BUT, I do not beleave that people go for the most expensive package without any experience with the company. The people that do pay 22$ for 50GB with 500GB traffic are the ones that started off with something small that has grown to something bigger, people that are satisfied with the features an the support that they've had for some time.
Nice offer, but are they honest?CPanel -> Yep, it's there.
Fantastico -> Yep, it's there.
No Ads Required -> Offcourse.
Daily Backups -> Yep, tested and working.
99.9% Uptime Guaranteed -> Only time will tell.
24x7 Support -> It's more like 12x7 Support, wich is 100% acceptable in my book.
Everything else that is listed on the webiste is there and it all works 100%. The company has not modified the CPanel features in any way, wich is understandable, but there are features that I miss. Features that I have encountered before ( don't ask me for names because I don't remember them ).
For example, it's possible to backup every single file on your webspace in one huge compressed file but it's not possible to backup the content of just one folder, one add-on domain. So if I want to backup a small website like my clansite, I have to backup all the other megabytes/gigabytes that are on my webspace. All other sites and files that are not even remotely related to my simpel clansite.
AFreeWebHhost.com is up-to-date and offers Fantastico De Luxe 2.10.4 r17
This is the latest stable release of Fantastico. Even though many scripts are not up-to-date, it's basicly "the best you can get" at the moment when it comes to auto-installers. For those of you who don't know, Fantastico allows you to install PHPBB, SMF, PHP-Nuke and many other platforms without any knowledge. All you need to know is how to click a link
How about the service?
So far, so good. Because I had to wait about 24 hours before I could actually use and view my webspace, the company gave me 25GB extra traffic and an extra month for free. Now that's what I call good service! ( maybe the company knew about my Servage.net review )
After sending many emails back and forth I was able to view my testpage. And even though I did not contact the company about any other issues, a day or two after our last contact they contacted me once again, just to see if everything was working ok.
When I made my first backup I got the message that it got saved in the "home" directory. I wasn't able to find my backup so I contacted support. Within 12 hours I got a reply.
Some of you might feel like 11-12 hours is to long, but I rather wait 11-12 hours for a decent, friendly, HUMAN email with usefull information instead of getting a "human-robot"-hybrid reply with noth enough information.
Uptime?
Uptime can be checked on [url]. This is the parked domain on my webspace. For my websites I use addon-domains.
Speed?
Download this file to test the speed: [url]
I have the "Pro Webhosting - Starter Package".
Visit www.tgow.info to check how fast pages load.
Would you recommend this host based on your first impression?
I sure would.
All the features are working just fine, the speed is not "superb" but good enough and the support so far is great.
My rating based on my first impression: 8/10.

I started hosting with ModVPS on March 14, 2007. My VPS was setup quickly and had everything I needed to transfer my clients over pretty seamlessly. They did a swell job there. This is a VPS we were using primarily for some shared hosting clients and a reseller or two.
Over the past 5+ months I've submitted numerous support inquiries, all of which I feel were tended to in an acceptable amount of time. Their personnel were always friendly and seemed knowledgeable.
Apropos the performance of the server, well, in the beginning it was great. Over time however, the speed and reliability progressively deteriorated. It has recently come to a point that the VPS is almost unusable. I attribute some of this to our growth. Currently, we only have about 10% of our disk allowance available. Obviously it's time to move on. This is where things start getting pretty sketchy.
For the past 3 months I've been receiving automatic notification emails of services failing. I'm not talking about 2 or 3, or even 5 to 10, I'm talking more like 15-20 per day. Granted, there are couple of notifications regarding a suspended account or disk space warnings but the lion's share of these (~90%+) are failed services emails. I submitted several tickets on this to no avail. Take a look at the attachments to see only some of the emails.
I started off having a positive opinion of modVPS. I quickly learned however that once you make them aware of your interest in leaving, regardless of how legitimate or impersonal the reason, you suddenly become a second-class customer. Their ability to make prompt responses suddenly ceases to be. Huh? That's odd.
As it is, all of my data is being held hostage by the sub-par VPS it's hosted on. The VPS has become so unresponsive that it's impossible to migrate any of the data. My new provider sent me this message:
Quote:
I have some bad news. We have been working on your source server for the last hour or so, and it has been extremely unresponsive. We tried shutting down various services such as Apache, etc but your load won't go below 3 or 4 -- which is really bad. All disk operations are taking a very long time. For example, to edit a file 'vi' requires 60-seconds just for the file to load up and be viewable.
We cannot continue migrating your account, you need to contact your provider and have them double your disk space. Right now you are using 90% of your disk space, so 10% of free space is not enough for us to backup all of your accounts and then transfer them over. We already tried doing a cPanel -> cPanel migration and that failed a few times because the accounts are just too large and the source server is too slow.
Theres not much here we can do I'm afraid, you'll have to contact your provider and ask them to double the disk space and also ask if they can move you on a less crowded node, because it's apparent that your server is extremely slow yet major services are not even running.
So I contacted modVPS with the request to temporarily increase my disk space to allow me to transfer my data.
The excuse was:
Quote:
please note that the main node is now performing a raid intialization which is a resource intensive process and will be affecting the server's and there by VPS' performance. Once it is over, every thing will function fine. Also it is not possible to double the disk space of you VPS. You can go for a plan upgradation, if needed.
Quote:
RAID initialization is being run in the server for the last 3 days. Also it is not possible for us to increase the VPS quota. Any way I am forwarding this ticket to our CS department and they will confirm this.
To sum this up, modVPS made a very good first impression and managed to keep me in their good graces for most of my time hosting with them. The failed services emails weren't a huge deal and we didn't notice much of a performance/uptime hit because of them. The services must've rebooted pretty quickly. It does go to show there was definitely a problem the modVPS SAs were ignoring. It's when they decided I was no longer worth the trouble that my perspective on them changed. It was a noticeable change in tone and responsiveness and what's worse, they've been of very little help with my transition to my new provider.
This post isn't me dragging modVPS through the mud. This is me sharing my experience with them as a host and hoping for 2 things: 1) they decide to facilitate this transfer and salvage the good impression they once had and 2.) to enlighten any potential customers considering them. I don't think this is an unfair review but then again, I'm the one writing it so I'm not impartial enough to make that assessment.

let me first clarify that they have been a VERY good host for me for the past 18 months... if you are ready to discount one VERY bad month.
The last month saw 4 outages on my server... HUGE ones.. each time the server was down for at least a day... the last one for 3 days.. after which i contacted them and asked why was the site down (i was outstation and did not know the status till i came back...)
They replied, there was an accident at the DC and If i had a backup they would happily restore it.
This was thorough unprofessionalism... one of your DC had such accident that you could not even recover data and you dont bother to tell the customer till he himself asks?
my bad luck was that i had already paid them in advance for the following month... BEFORE DUE DATE OF JULY 7th...
the server was offline since June 26th.. i asked for a refund for JULY since i was not using their services anymore and more than that i was really annoyed at the way they handled the issue.
Well.. they are yet to reply to the ticket where i asked for refund.. yea yea its been 20 days almost..
And what do i find now? the ticket was closed yesterday :-|
Have i lost my money? Just wanted to warn others about them...

I was on shared hosting with Site5 and found the level of service declining the cheaper their shared hosting plans got. My site was down more often than I wanted, so I canceled my plan and went with VPSLink.
I signed up for the Link-2 plan for a few months just to feel it out and see if I could get a Debian server up and running from the command line. After signing up I was in my VPS in less than 30 minutes. Much quicker than I expected!
Following some tutorials I was able to have a lighttpd, PHP5, MySQL server installed and running in a little over an hour. I had a site up right away ! I'm used to FreeBSD, so Debian's apt-get is very simple to use. I used VPSLink DNS and it was easy to set up. To keep the load off the server I transferred my domain email over to Google Apps. I've spent more time tweaking the configuration and I'm happy with the result so far. VPSLink is much faster than my old Site5 shared hosting. That could be due to the VPSLink server sitting in Seattle while I'm in Vancouver BC, but I kind of doubt it.
My initial impression of VPSLink after a couple of weeks is positive. The price is right, the performance is good and it's no frills VPS. I like to have full control over the server and I'm glad I just took the leap away from shared hosting. For the prices they offer it's worth trying.

I've been hosting with VectorLevel for almost a year now after signing up with them when they were just starting off. I enjoy drawing and put up comics and other artwork on my site (1000oclock.com) and for what I've been doing, everything has been great. I haven't noticed any downtime and it's a huge plus that they're a local company so I get personalized service.

I recently moved over to VectorLevel and I couldn't be happier.
They migrated all my files over for me. The whole feel of my board is much snappier.
They are very courteous and professional. I would recommend them in a heart beat. I even had a problem that had nothing to do with them or what they did. They were patient, and took the time to explain everything to me in a way I could understand. (I am clueless when it comes to a lot of web stuff.) They walked me through every step.
I took a realistic look at my file sizes and decided to I didn't need to have all that drive space that never gets used. I wanted a company that took an honest approach to their business plan, offered good prices and good service. VectorLevel really seems to fit that bill. At this point, I am very happy I made the change.
If your looking to make a move, give VectorLevel a close look. I know I am glad I did.

Domain reported.
Orien & crew has always provided great service - definitely went above and beyond on helping me get a CGI script working, even though
they really didn't have to
I also absolutely love DirectAdmin's DNS management - unlike cPanel's piece of crap, you can set A/AAAA/PTR/CNAME all by yourself - espescially CNAME. DNS hosting makes my life much easier managing other domains.
I don't think it's gone down so far, and pages are always fast to load.
Support - 10/10
Value - 10/10

My website is [url]
After the recent "scandal" with RS.net, I was one of many looking for a new host. Orien had responded to one of my threads (important to point out he never solicited me in any way), so I decided to check out his host. After speaking with him briefly, he seemed like a great guy and the service was just what I was looking for, so I signed up. He allowed me to sign up on a "refugee" code (LOL) so I got my first month free.
Ever since then it's been great working with him. He's assisted me with any issue I've had with my website -- even if it was not related to the hosting. He's helped me with scripts and permissions and settings I did not really understand. He's also been a joy to talk to outside of business communication.
So, Orien, thank you very much for all of your hard work! This has been the best service I've ever recieved, not just with webhosting, but with anything. You've truly earned your reputation here and I look forward to continuing with VectorLevel.

I plan on opening a local website that will have a forum on it. I think the forum will mostly have members from my area, neighbors basically. I live in Irvine, California and thus wanted a local hosting company. It was really by random chance that I bumped into Vector Level which I found out is based in Irvine as well. Their plans look very reasonable for what I need, just a small forum basically. Speed is important and their website loads pretty fast so that's good.
I've already given them a call and a guy named Robert answered a lot of my questions. Before I order an account, can anyone comment on them? current customers? I searched and found a few reviews but they were a few months old so I don't know if they are still hosting with them. I understand they are a new company which is why I wanted to do my research more thoroughly before ordering.

I've been with VectorLevel (vectorlevel.com) for about six months now -- after leaving Reliable Site during that fiasco I'm sure many of you remember -- , so I thought it was time to write up a new review. For verification, my website can be found at [url]
There isn't much that I can say about them, and that's a good thing. Most lengthy reviews end up being negative ones; there's plenty of ways things can go wrong, but not many ways in which things can go correctly.
Every time there is a problem, Orien retroactively corrects it. I remember that he voluntarily gave me a month's credit simply because they were moving servers and the DNS had to propagate again.
Orien has helped me do a lot of things that aren't necessary for him to do. He's helped me with CSS, given me feedback on my website, helped me install and modify software and has overall just been a great friend. I couldn't ask for anything else and I honestly feel privileged to be his client.
For the relative pittance I am paying, the service I receive is almost criminal. I feel confident in saying that absolutely nobody can match VectorLevel's service, period. For as long as this host exists, I will be their customer. I wish I had more to say, but that's really all there is to it. I've recommended this host to everyone I know, and now I'm passing that message on to everyone here.

I has one blog which hosted on Bluehost for 2 years now. My blog is base on drupal, the content is less than 100M, and has 1K unique visitors per month, use around 300M data transfer per month. My problem with bluehost is quite "normal": site went down without reason, sql database disappeared sometimes, site banned for exceed cpu usage limit, ...... So it's time to move on.
I would like to build one more site in the new year along with my blog. Since the new site will be mostly hosting flash games, I expect far more bandwidth requirement than my personal blog. And my budget is under $10 per month.
So far I narrow down my choices to following six:
1. Nearlyfreespeech.net
100M Storage $1 per month, 1G Transfer $1 per month
2. Vectorlevel.com
1G Storage, 10G Transfer / $5 per month, Extra Data Transfer: $1/GB per month
3. TotalChoice.com
2.4G Storage, 80G Transfer / $5 per month, Extra Data Transfer: $2.5/GB per month
4. doreo.com/
2G Storage, 60G Transfer / $6.99 per month
5. Medialayer
500M Storage, 10G Transfer / $9.95 per month
6. Servage.net
510G Storage, 5010G Transfer / $6.45 per month
Medialayer seems has pretty high reputation here in WHT, but it's a little expensive to me for only 10G data transfer.
Vectorlevel is young and very Medialayer alike. 10G/$5 month data transfer seems right for me. But as it's a new company without proved track record, I'm not sure whether they will still be good in years. ( But I really like their "Do what you want" attitude.)
TotalChoice.com and doreo.com both offer more than 50G Transfer per month which is good if my site become popular in the future. And both two seems don't have complains here which is also a good sign. But last time I checked, one site hosted on doreo is hosting with other 308 sites on one server, and a totalchoice one is with 203 other domains.
Though both are acceptable ( comparing to my site on Bluehost server with other 908 domains, or STEADFAST.NET one with 2048 other sites), but still seems a little too much. And doreo's $6.99 plan only allow 1 MySQL db which is also limited to me.
Nearlyfreespeech.net is a cost-efficient option for my current requirement, but will not scale well if site become popular in a long term.
Servage, yes, there're tons of complains about how servage sucks, but since two sites:
freebreakgames.com and Mooktown.com are both hosted on Servage, one hosted with 46 other sites one with 19 other sites, and both two sites are stable, so I add this one as backup option.

It takes a lot for me to be impressed, but HostV has done just that.
I migrated my site over a month ago to a new VPS plan. Up until then I was residing on a FFmpeg shared hosting plan(A company here) which was terrible(up, down, impossible slow access, huge memory usage).
My support tickets at HostV have been answered within hours regardless of when I have created them. They have fixed some of my own screw ups without hesitation and in great time and even installed some apache modules for me. My sites load faster then google now a days.
I run two streaming video sites, a few medium size forums and a couple wordpress blogs.
My bandwidth over the past month has been higher then ever thanks to the reliable service of the FFmpeg enabled VPS. 750 gb later I could not be more impressed.
So, if anyone is considering making a switch to a VPS anytime soon look at HostV's plans. They have far succeeded any expectation I had going in considering what I am paying.
they provide a backup service through virtuozo that does not use your own disk space for free

I am a webmaster in Hawaii and recently had a massive server upgrade. This was a hugely complicated process, and my host, HIVELOCITY.NET seriously came through for me.
Without any BS extra billing or attitude, they spent 30 days, patiently dealing with my frustrated emails, and ignorance. After 3 years of insanely positive support, they just kicked it over the edge and proved to me that they are the only host I need indefinitely. I have adult and non-adult sites and have required very intensive support.
HIVELOCITY has never tried to tell me "thats not within the scope of our support" like so many other hosts have. (EV1) They always resolve my problems without telling me " I need to learn shell better" or "you need to consider a managed hosting plan or a sys admin" I've heard this from so many BS hosts, it has driven me mad. So I thought i would help everyone looking for a reliable server and post here about my positive experience.
If you want a server thats run by people who care about your business, and show it, try HIVELOCITY.NET

Since a couple a days I have a hosting problem (500 error). My provider told me that I have a script who is using more resources then the shared hosting server allows. BUT, I only have 1000 uniques/day for all my sites. From my point of view, that wasn't enough to explain it. So I dug a little bit in my stats:
Last 5 days. Stats from my hosting
Thursday : 483 uniques
Friday : 403 uniques
Saturday : 508 uniques
Sunday : 53,835 uniques???
Monday : 75,964 uniques???
Most of this traffic came from : 163data.com.cn
I don't think it's a "legit" traffic, because Google analystic gave me only 11 uniques yesterday and Adsense +/- 125 impressions.

I started a small site on their cheapest shared hosting. Well, it got pretty big and one day blew up. I got 12,000 unique visits(30K actual visits) within about 10 hours. The load this put on the shared server was bogging down everyone who was also on the server. DreamHost disabled my site until the load went down. Thats fine by me, its shared hosting and I was affecting other people. Would have been awesome if DH would have TOLD ME that they disabled my site. I realized the next day my site was offline. Everything within the Control Panel looked fine, I couldnt figure out wtf was wrong. So I send in a support e-mail and Im promptly replied with a generic automated message telling me Ill be helped shortly. About 30 hours later Im finally told my site was put offline due to the suddenly large amount of resources it was taking.
They refused to turn my site back on until I made my coding more efficient. Even after I reassured them that there wouldnt be that many visitors anymore, as the 2 days offline pretty much guaranteed to kill over half my traffic. Nope, I still had to change the site.
Whatever, I made it more efficent, used a cache so it wasnt pulling the page from a DB every time it was visited. Were now at three and a half days offline, awesome.
They still dont believe this is efficient enough. I switch to their VPS service and this satisfied them. They agree to turn the site back on now. 5 days offline. Im getting maybe 100 unique visits at this time.
After about 10 days of their VPS service(WOW their VPS blows donkey balls) I send an e-mail to have it cancelled and just go back to shared hosting. "As your site requires a lot of resources, your cancellation has been denied." At this point Im pretty irritated. My reply is "No offense, but thats wasnt a request. Ive moved to JaguarPC(you guys rock!) VPS service and I would like to go back to my shared hosting. I thank you in advance for doing this for me."
2 days later they say its switched. Oh yea. BTW, you pay daily for the VPS. It just adds on to your shared hosting costs, and yes I had to pay for those 2 days.
Skip ahead 2 months. I get an e-mail saying Ive been billed from DreamHost. This is normal, as my $10 shared hosting account is still active. Only this bill is for $80. Ive just been charged for 2 months worth of VPS and 2 months of shared hosting out of nowhere.
After about 6 e-mails(and 3 days) to their support team Ive finally got a response from a real person, only to tell me that hes forwarding my email to another tech support person that can "better help me". Whatever, do what you do DreamHost. Were now at a week(and 4 more emails asking whats going on, etc) when I get another response. Hey, my problem has been forwarded again. SWEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEET.
So, two weeks later, I finally get my refund with a "We apologize for any inconvenience." e-mail.

I just recently registered a friend's site that I did for her on MMHosting, at first I was a bit skeptical of the prices and the size of the storage and bandwidth. However, I was quite surprised to see that the space is actually available on the Cpanel. I doubt we'll ever really use that much space or bandwidth, but it's nice to know the bandwidth is there if we need it.
More importantly, the customer service has been amazing. If I have a question about the hosting, I submit a ticket and it's generally answered within 30 minutes to 2 hours. They have been more than helpful and provided me links and examples of the answer to the question that I had asked.
MMHosting now has one satisfied new customer, and seeing as I make websites for people all day long everyday, and they always ask me if I know of a good place to host, I will now swear by MMHosting.
Also, I do have plans to move my other two websites to MMHosting very shortly.
Thanks for everything guys you're doing a fantastic job!
Customer service is really what makes the difference in picking a hosting company, and as far as I've seen, MMHosting has it down.

About a month ago I purchased my first dedicated server from Softlayer. I was originally with BurstNET, but due to some network issues at their datacenter I decided that it was in my best interest to move to a more premium network. Keep in mind that this is a review of Softlayer. It has absolutely nothing to do with my opinions on BurstNET (I actually love BurstNET).
My Review
Before I purchased my dedicated server I spoke with a live chat representative. We went over many things, and I believe we chatted for close to thirty minutes. After making my decision, I ordered the dedicated server. After I ordered the server, the person on the live chat session told me that she would be calling my phone for an order verification. This went very smoothly, it was completed within minutes of ordering.
I believe I waited a few hours for my server to be deployed. I thought it was quite nice that I didn't have to wait a day for it to be ready. That is definitely a plus in my book. After the server was deployed, I explored the Softlayer control panel, which is incredibly useful. I'm glad that I don't have to save my server login details anymore.
Unfortunately, after having my server for nearly a week, I experienced about six hours of downtime. This downtime happened between the hours of 12:00AM and 6:00AM EST. I wasn't really bothered by it (yes, it's downtime, but I know it's not something that happens a lot with Softlayer). I contacted Softlayer about it, and later received 10-15% off my next payment (I'm not sure whether it was 10% or 15%, but it was one of those numbers). I'm honestly not sure what caused the downtime. I think it had something to do with a power failure, but don't quote me on that -- I didn't read up on the outage. Apparently it only affected the servers in the Dallas datacenter, Server Room 4.
Once my server went online I experienced another problem (this time it was my fault). I called the Softlayer support line, and luckily talked to a guy who fixed the problem. I know that Softlayer isn't managed, so this was definitely helpful.
Overall, I'll say that Softlayer has been truly amazing. I love their pricing, their support, and their network. They've got a long-term client.

I shifted my website universalteacher.com from yahoo to Medialayer in July 2008 because yahoo has a very bad customer support. You can read my review about yahoo here:
[url]
The support provided by medialayer is excellent. Whenever I contact them, they reply within 1 hour. Mostly I have got reply within 15 minutes. The executives are knowledgeable and very helpful.
I am located in India and Medialayer is in US. I always contact them in odd hours. Please see the following query that I asked when I was testing wordpress MU on one of my sites at 6:13 AM and i got the reply at 6:26 AM. The second query i asked at 12:40 PM and got reply at 12:48 PM ....

I've been using these guys for a little over a month. After a couple weeks, i got a 2nd server from them. Their web account panel is very well done, their special offer going on right now is great, they deliver on exactly what they say. Their customer service is also amazing. I'm sorry if this isn't the correct format for a review, its my first time. I just felt the need to tell others about this, easily my favorite dedicated server provider i've dealt with.

I am undergoing "amazing" Bandwidth thief issue. My Server is using very high bandwidth from last 7 days -
On Scanning server, i found following
1) Roundcube mail script was compromised and used by some hacking group, so i deleted that directory all together
2) I disabled Hotlinking all together
3) I found "Live Chat" script also being compromised, and found movies (.dat files) in
it amounting to 20 GB++ , i also deleted that directory
4) I have checked for each and every file, with size more than 30 MB on server.
5) I have also switched off FTP service (and there is no other user on server too)
6) After all this, i even installed "mod_bandwidth" and limited bandwidth service to 10 KBPS across domain directory
Then, i installed MRTG graphs to analyze the issue, and to my SURPRISE, nothing changed, it still used very high bandwidth, after few - few hours.

^^ the above image shows B/W goes upto 10 MBPS and thus breaks network.
I am now tired and exhausted of this. Can someone here, please give an expert advice on this issue?
