Manadospace Review---bad Service, Not A Honest Host

Jan 21, 2009

I order a plan at Manadospace.com in 12.1.2008, they have 12 Day Money Back Guarantee, but when i ask for Money Back, they rufused!

In 12.18.2008,they mail me that I had been to move on new server with new quota for value hosting plan! But they deleted all my files without any back up.

In 1.4.2009,they close my account without any note or mail.I contact them and they tell me that because my main domain doesn't use they host, and it violate their TOS ,so they close my accout and delete my all files. But I can't find any words like "main domain can't use another host" at [url]termofservice.html in 1.5.2009.

now they modify point 11 of there tos,but I have a copy of there tos in 1.5.2009.

Honest Rackspace Review (11 Months)

Feb 20, 2008

It was 11 months ago to this day that I first signed up with Rackspace. I can honestly say that while the fee's, some of you may claim to be high (and well, I guess they are more than the average) the service and professionalism provided by Rackspace is unparalleled.

In the 11 months of hosting my server inside Rackspace, I have had my primary hard drive blow out. Now when this happened, the raid configuration switched over to the second / mirror hard drive, meaning absolutely no downtime during this event. It was suggested to me, by Rackspace, to use a raid configuration just in case something like this should occur. Well am I glad I listened! They had the primary raid device (hot swappable, again their suggestion) replaced within an hour – all of this without a second of downtime and without any need (although I did since I am pedantic) to call them – they were on it!

The only other time I experienced any service / availability related problems was when they had some sort of electrical fault and the two backup generators failed to start. This was completely out of the blue and obviously someone messed up big time. The server was down for a good 8 hours or so, and the CEO of Rackspace apologized so many times, I actually felt sorry for him and the entire team... They also credited my account for any downtime, as per the agreement we have together.

Team M8 (the support team assigned to me) and my account manager, Ginger Lee, deserve a big thumbs up! They always make me feel welcome when I call, have always been professional and most importantly, interested to hear what I have to say (and act on it accordingly).

About the only disappointment I have faced with throughout this ordeal, is that I was under the impression that because I have “Platinum” monitoring and support, which as I understand it, unless things have changed, is the best support – that if I needed something installed, that was all a-ok. Initially, it was... and the team always worked with me to install any service a growing business needs.

At some point, not long ago, however, I asked to have a certain PHP module installed to allow compilation / uploading of video files and I was actually charged an hourly fee for this. Normally I would appreciate the time in doing this, and understand a fee... however given they set a precedence and expectation with me from previous encounters and given my understanding there of the “Platinum” support offered, I was somewhat shocked... I did pay the fee for these things to be installed without mentioning this... but am still dumbfounded, I guess, as to why I had to pay (given I pay on an on-going basis for the Platinum support, which ain't exactly cheap).

I have only ever once spoke with someone (a receptionist / level one representative) and received pathetic attitude – this was during the power issues as mentioned above, and as of such have affected the break-down below.

Here is a break-down of the service / support. In fairness to my team, I have graded the teams efforts and Rackspace's as a whole, separately. In my opinion, the team that works with me, including my account manager, deserve recognition. So thank you, guys and girls, for doing a wonderful job.

TEAM:

Willingness: 10/10
Professionalism: 10/10
Duty of Care: 10/10
Expertise: 10/10
Reaction Time: 10/10

RACKSPACE:

Willingness: 10/10
Professionalism: 9/10
Duty of Care: 9/10

Uptime: 9/10

Tmzhosting Rocks! An Honest Review

Nov 14, 2008

Ive been hosted with Tmzhosting from the past 5 months and it has been the best hosting experience I have ever had with any host! Words that perfectly describe Tmzhosting:

Fast,Reliable and Rock Solid! They won't vanish over night with your website.. They are simply the best hosting I have come across so far Ive used - Hostgator, HostMonster, BlueHost and several other highly repped web hosts but my experience with Tmzhosting has been the best and the smoothest!

I bought Tmzhosting in a promo which they had about 5 months back and I'm still hosted with that promo.. Never thought about changing my host or complaining about slow speeds!

They never gave me a chance to complain. Cpanel 11(Latest), Fantastisco Delux, Site Builder, Free/Instant Setup, AwStats, Unlimited SQL/Domains come along for the most affordable prices ever! No Slow Speeds! Special proxy server for proxy clients! What else? A 30 day money back guarantee(I bet you won’t need this!) and Monthly Payments Facility! What else do you need?

You can try Hostgator, Hostmonster, BlueHost, DreamHost, Servage etc but when your tired finding a host and you give up, switch over to TmzHosting… Or Switch over to TmzHosting tomorrow and save your Money and Time!

My overall rating would be a 10/10!

Some screenshots which I took when my blog got sudden visitors:

Even after this, Tmzhosting dint go down and accepted my site since this was a temporary Stumble effect!

KnownHost.com - Honest Review And Experience

Mar 18, 2008

I recently transferred to Knownhost after my previous host ask me to leave their server because my websites eats 35% of their system, not the bandwidth and not the diskspace but the CPU. I have several clients running SMF forums with less than a hundred users at the same time.

After days of searching through the pages of WHT and through the suggestions of other members for me to get a VPS, I signed up with Knownhost.com. That is after asking them a lot of question regarding VPS and their packages, AUP and TOS. Pre-sale is fast, chat support answered all my questions with precise information and the same goes with their sales when I emailed them.

Since I don't know anything about VPS, I asked a lot of question ranging from stupid to more stupid question. Should I delete incremental backup or full backup ? what is Apache backup ? Can I delete Apache archive ? Can my client run mod-rewrite ? What is wrong with their .htaccess ? What DNS entry should I change for wildcard? What should I do to fix system resource problem as it reached 35.92% ? As you will see, all this questions and the other questions that I throwed to them were answered in a very professional and precise manner. I must admit that I am really impressed on how they handled my problems and how they explain everything that I need to know. This may seem small issues to others, but for a newbie on VPS like me it is a great help. They are not just simply efficient, but also very effective in delivering the solution. All the help that I need was given to me to run the VPS from scratch, me having no knowledge about it. Honestly, at first I thought they were trained to be polite, but it seems the support are really polite in nature. Not like other support I encountered from other host that were trained to be polite yet their evil nature goes out when you asked something unusual and off their manual and they can't solve it. It's been more than a week now, but everything is running smoothly. I may have had a few downtime but loss is immaterial for everything is being resolved in reasonable time. Reasonable in a way that minor problem are resolved instantly while major problems are carefully evaluated to give not just work around but rather a solution to the cause of the problem. I experienced this when they fixed the problem of my PHP configuration that conflicts with the memory requirement of SMF and also regarding the wildcard DNS that my client need.

I can't tell how long Knownhost.com support will be like this, but as long as I got the same quality of service from them, then I will stay.

I saw more than 35% usage from virtouzzo panel and it is indeed a spike.

In the event that the quality of support change, I'll look for this thread and post it here.

GoDaddy Windows Shared Hosting, An Honest Review

Jun 12, 2008

After trying out GoDaddy shared web hosting for 2 months now, I am confident to give you a good review.

Purpose
I got Web Hosting from GoDaddy in order to get ASP.NET. I looked at other hosts but they are just more expensive. So I decided to go with GoDaddy since they provide quite a lot of storage space, bandwidth and of course ASP, ASP.NET 1, and 2, IIS 7 and quite cheap as well. Since HostGator didn't have that option, I didn't have any other choice.

Server Speed & Uptime
I monitor my website using SiteUptime, and there have been 0 downtimes in two months. Not sure how closely SiteUptime monitors a website, but that's what the stats read.

Server speed is very good. For example file upload/download speed is good and doesn't lag.

Scripting Support
Since I chose Windows Hosting, it comes with ASP.NET support, and the ability to create Virtual Directories via the mini web based IIS Manager.

I was actually surprised to see this but they also have PHP 5 . On their windows web hosting package they don't advertise PHP, but after testing a simple file I was just surprised and happy .

Data Base
They give you MS SQL Databases, Access and MySQL. What I really like in their database management area is, it gives you examples of different connectionstrings for your database.

Support
It usually takes 2-3 hours to process each ticket. The support representatives are kind and really helpful.

In a nutshell, GoDaddy really surprised me with their web hosting features, support and just wow .

IwhiC.Com >>> A HONEST Reveiw

Oct 4, 2008

I signed up for a reseller account about 2 weeks ago and i have to say it has been my worst online experience ever.

I purchased a reseller account for around $16. I paid instantly using paypal.

First problem:i didnt receive my account details.
So i opened a support ticket and i got a reply not too long after.

Second Problem: I was billed again for the first month!

I contacted them. Waited for a reply, but nothing. So i opened a paypal dispute... sure enough i got then finally got a reply.
They said it was a billing mistake since everything is automated.

Fair enough i thought, can you know refund the money?

I was told i would have to close the paypal dispute first. so i foolishly did. I replied again notifying them i had closed the dispute and asked them to begin my site transfer.

They replied and said that "Aimee" would issue a refund in a few hours and to provide ftp details so they could transfer site.

So i gave them my ftp details from my old host.

2 Days Pass: I contact them again asking for a update on the refund and transfer. They reply saying they cannot transfer file since it is 8GB. they tell me i have to upload it myself...and i notice no mention of the refund.

Next Day: i check to see if my domain name has been redirected, and i realize my iwhic account has been suspended.
I contact them again asking simply to refund my money. I then try to open the paypal dispute again but failed since i had closed it once.

After contacting paypal and emailing iwhic, i finally receive a response. i get $15.99 refunded. but i ask them when i will receive the rest of my money...no reply.

since then i have tried opening support tickets and i have tried emailing a few of the address i found on some forums. They are never on their live chat.

so much for "24x7 Support"

I wouldnt usually post these things on forums but i am hoping i will finally receive a reply. All i want is my money back.

Terrible Service From ThePLANET.. Looking For New Host

Oct 17, 2009

I dont want this to happen to anyone and thats why posting this here, plus I need some suggestions for a good dedicated hoster...

I been with theplanet.com for over a year and now on these days i got the WORST service ever..... I am paying $500 month and transfering new servers to planet from my other dedicated hosters....

Here is the story.. My billing period is 10/16.. I advise planet team to cancel one of my server on 10/12. While I was travelling, following day 10/13, I acreated an offical ticket to cancel the server..... Planet team edited my ticket and asked me 'do you really want to cancel or so"... Since on the flight, i didnot got a chance to see it.. 10/15, i logged in and they send me a message, you will be billed for next month since you failed to confirm....

ridiculus..?? They want me to pay one extra month for a non use server... Do they think i am getting free money..?

I contacted the billing rep, instead of supporting, they are just washing off there hand like 'sorry its ur problem, you do what ever you want, we dont care attitude'... I still have $500 monthly server with them and they fighting for $165.. Planet sales people spend too much time with me to get my business, however there billing team is just kicking me....

I created 2 tickets and told them 4 times to cancel, however they still have questions whether i really wanted to cancel..Here is the timing of ticket creation..

10/12/2009 8:09:04 PM
10/13/2009 8:38:05 PM
10/13/2009 8:56:51 PM
10/15/2009 11:30:25 PM""

I have few servers with Liquidweb.... I am planning to switch my planet servers to some other hosters... I fould iweb.com... Is there any horror stories just like this..?? or is there any good dedicated hosters who provide support instead of stealing money...??

I am planning to file this is BBB and inform my creditcard company.. Any other recomendations to get my money back...?? Please help kind people.. I am really frustruated.. I dont mind to gave money to charity, however these kind of rip off cannot be tolerated...

This is message I send to them after several conversations.. they dont care...leave if you want....

Vicky,

You are forcing me to cancel all my servers from theplanet.com and switch to iweb or liquidweb. I am paying upto $500 per month for my servers.. and you are fighting with me for $165 for a cancelled server..??

Check the date, I created the regular cancellation ticket on 10/12 and official ticket of 10/13... You guys edited it and holded it and made a statement that we are waiting for final confirmation..? I still not got an answer for my concern. When I send official cancellation, why I need to reconfirm..?? On my first ticket I send you the fuull details.. Note that billing date is 10/16.. Let me know if you need a copy of the credit card transaction...

If this wont get resolved, I wont be a customer for planet starting next month...

Cheap Host With Good Customer Service

Jun 30, 2008

I am creating a basic static site for my friend's gardening business. It will use html and CSS only, be around 5MB at most and does not require any databases, php support etc.

My problem is that he wants to basically have the site up and running and then be able to forget about it really. I will be going on now and again to update it for him, but that is about it. My experience with free hosts is limited, I have used byethost before, and though very good, they do require a log on every week else they assume the site is no longer wanted and delete the account and all files!

So, my requirements are:
Free host that easily allows to have your own domain name
Email address with the company domain, so quotes@domain.com, not quotes@domain.host.com
Cheap
Good customer service
Need no more than 20MB (allow for some extra photos to be added)
UK Based would be preferable

A2b2 Service Review

Jan 6, 2007

I'm coming upto a months service with a2b2 and have to say it's been a pleasure using the services. It might not all be fully automated with a nice gui but the service provides everything I need including stable servers for developing

Support = 5/5

The times i've been required to contact them they have replied fast and dealt with the issues i've had and have been polite and easy to communicate with during pre-sales also.

Network = 5/5

I cannot say i've noticed any downtime with them, I will admit i've not monitored the VS too closely but everytime i've tried and SSH session it's been there ready for use.

Server Speed = 5/5

After being with VPSlink for a few months and getting extremly tired of the slow diskspeeds it's been a dream using my VPS with a2b2. no lagging when typing commands.

I've got one of there Ł12.50 packages but minus CPanel as I wanted to build my own mailserver.

Service, Reliabilty and Support knock the socks off what VPSlink provide I can't speak highly enough of Rus and his team

I will be moving out of VPSLink this month since i've just finished configuring my development server with a2b2, I'm not going to post the url hosted with a2b2 but will provide it in a pm to a moderator if they require it as it's a dev platform I don't really want the world knowing the url

Softlayer Review - Amazing Service

Sep 24, 2008

About a month ago I purchased my first dedicated server from Softlayer. I was originally with BurstNET, but due to some network issues at their datacenter I decided that it was in my best interest to move to a more premium network. Keep in mind that this is a review of Softlayer. It has absolutely nothing to do with my opinions on BurstNET (I actually love BurstNET).

My Review

Before I purchased my dedicated server I spoke with a live chat representative. We went over many things, and I believe we chatted for close to thirty minutes. After making my decision, I ordered the dedicated server. After I ordered the server, the person on the live chat session told me that she would be calling my phone for an order verification. This went very smoothly, it was completed within minutes of ordering.

I believe I waited a few hours for my server to be deployed. I thought it was quite nice that I didn't have to wait a day for it to be ready. That is definitely a plus in my book. After the server was deployed, I explored the Softlayer control panel, which is incredibly useful. I'm glad that I don't have to save my server login details anymore.

Unfortunately, after having my server for nearly a week, I experienced about six hours of downtime. This downtime happened between the hours of 12:00AM and 6:00AM EST. I wasn't really bothered by it (yes, it's downtime, but I know it's not something that happens a lot with Softlayer). I contacted Softlayer about it, and later received 10-15% off my next payment (I'm not sure whether it was 10% or 15%, but it was one of those numbers). I'm honestly not sure what caused the downtime. I think it had something to do with a power failure, but don't quote me on that -- I didn't read up on the outage. Apparently it only affected the servers in the Dallas datacenter, Server Room 4.

Once my server went online I experienced another problem (this time it was my fault). I called the Softlayer support line, and luckily talked to a guy who fixed the problem. I know that Softlayer isn't managed, so this was definitely helpful.

Overall, I'll say that Softlayer has been truly amazing. I love their pricing, their support, and their network. They've got a long-term client.

SiteGround Review - GREAT Service

May 25, 2008

Can You Recommend A Reputable HONEST Webhost In Vancouver, BC, Canada

Sep 8, 2008

I'm a very small home-based start-up business that currently is having huge amounts of trouble with a webhost here in Vancouver. This webhost has been named recently on WHT as one to avoid. I never had a problem with them the whole 2 years that I only had a poster uploaded to this host. But as soon as I uploaded my first version of my site to this host, the problems came fast and furious. First it was not being able to log into the webmail to view any emails (which it should be known, I had only some test emails from my website forms). Then as of August 27, my site disappeared. I opened tickets. They closed them, saying problem solved. Problem was obviously not solved as I couldn't log onto Plesk, nor was my website visible to the world!

I didn't realize that website hosting was an unscrupulous business. Sigh. I've learned the hard way. I had paid a year in advance (in fact, think I was double billed to boot!). My .ca domain remains there currently as I search for a new webhost. I am loathe to mention the company although I'm sure a few can guess as I would like to recoup my domain as I have currently paid for advertising pointing to my website. All phone calls went unheeded (call centres in the US and elsewhere, even though these trained monkeys are told to say Vancouver).

Anyway, I have been lurking and reading and have been doing my due diligence; however, most reputable companies seem to be located back East. I have noted from all your posts that it would be better to have the data centre nearby.

I would like to support Canada; and in particular, Vancouver. Uptime and having a visible site is paramount to me...as is REAL technical support. I am not web-hosting savvy and I do not want to be taken advantage of again. I am interested in a shared web-hosting plan (I don't have any e-commerce or streaming video or any special needs...at the moment. My site isn't huge, but I can't check how much bandwidth or anything that I used because I can't log on...pretty minimal though).

I created my site from a Windows platform. Does this mean I need a Windows shared hosting plan?

Can anyone out there recommend a reputable HONEST Vancouver-based, Vancouver data centred webhost with very good technical support and excellent uptime?

Reliable Hosting And An Honest Registrar -Outside- Of The United States

Jun 24, 2008

I am pretty tired of the constant interference and harassment from competitors that is almost encouraged by rediculous US laws.

I would love to find reliable hosting and a honest registrar outside of the United States/Canada/EU.

My needs are somewhat simple - I have my own server at the Planet right now but a reliable (not oversold) VPS would suit me just fine.

Price is not a huge issue providing the fees are justified by the services received.

Recommend A West Coast Shared Host W/ A+ Customer Service

Apr 20, 2009

Couple days ago all of a sudden my host that I've been with for years all of a sudden went down the drain. Why? Supposedly, my site was used for spam? Stupid. They are "trying" to compile my database and files, but I DOUBT that will happen.

With an already 24 hour downtime. I am receiving a lot of emails and phone calls on site. I need my community to get back up asap! So I guess it's time to find a new host.

I need a RECOMMENDATION on a westcoast host that will provide me with great customer service and the requirements I need to run my community.

Must handle vBulletin real well, have the requirements I need, and have great customer service.

This is a local forum, which is why I would like to be on a Westcoast Host.

Pacificrack 3 Week Review -- Absolutely Excellent Service

Sep 22, 2008

After using Pacificrack before we had considered to use them again, however the coverup thread certainly made us think but we decided to give them another go, however Chris Gotzmann was extremely helpful via MSN and we secured an excellent deal on a Core2Quad server.

Sales:
After speaking with Chris via MSN we came to a deal on a Core2Quad Q6600 server. Chris promptly created my client account and generated an invoice, I paid for it and the server was deployed and ready to go 10 hours later, Excellent.

Support:
The support before when we used them was excellent, Support ticket's answered in 10 minutes or less and the support now is still at that level if not better as some of our tickets get answered in under 60 seconds. We have put in several tickets this month and all issues have been resolved in under 10 minutes after getting an inital reply within 1-5 minutes.

Network:
I cannot really fault their network, it provides unbelievably good download speeds to the UK and good ping times, there have been only a couple of very minor hiccups this month but it only affected service for around 1-5 minutes if that.

Overall:
I am extremely happy with Pacificrack, their service is as good as it was before and Chris and the team have been extremely helpful and supportive to me. I cannot really fault their service and I hope to continue using them.

Sales Rating:
8/10, Sometimes took a little bit of time to get a response on email

Support:
10/10, Cant fault it and cant complain at reply times

Network:
9/10, Other than the couple of minor hiccups, no complaints here

I have submitted an IP address/domain to the mods for verification.

1 Year Review Of JaguarPC -> Excellent Service & Hosting

Feb 1, 2007

It has been one year today that I have had a VPS with JaguarPC. It has been a pleasurable experience.

From day one I received prompt curious service from their sales department and support the few times it was needed.

I was overseas on trip to Bulgaria and Turkey right after setting up my VPS. I messed up something just before I left that caused the VPS to crash while I was away. It was my error - I was out of the country and my assistant who knows little about running a VPS was able to get out an email to me in Bulgaria. I opened a ticket with support and gave them my friends email address so they could work with him and that was all it took.

Support had my system up and running in no time even though I messed up.

The VPS has run perfect since. Just recently my VPS was moved from the Houston Data Center to the Atlanta Center. The migration went great and the new server is outstanding. Fast and very responsive. WHM/Cpanel a resource hog as it is loads almost instantaneously now. Two Dual-Core AMD Opteron(tm) 2210 Processors! The VPS has only 8.3% of memory usage with no disk swapping. SATA drives in RAID 10. My old server was always at 46% which still was good.

Regardless of what you may read here from some grippers - you too can have a good experience at JaguarPC.

Right now you can get 15% off for life on a VPS - if you are looking for a powerful server to have a VPS on the current ones Jag is selling are it! (till Feb 15)

I am no employee of JaguarPC just a happy client who wants to tell the truth about my one year anniversary with the company.

The company has a great forum where a good group of old time customers help other customers with installs or whatever with their hosting needs. Even the resident wacko VIN DSL is a big help when he wants to be

They continue to improve all faucets of the company with new ideas and services -that along with the continuous hiring of an excellent team of sales and service personnel as the company grows make it so that I can look forward to another good year at JaguarPC.

Singlehop - 1 Year Review Of Dedicated Server And Customer Service

Sep 23, 2009

just want to say this forum kicks some serious arse. It helped me out tremendously with a potential scam that I almost got myself caught in this morning. Secondly, since I am on here posting this morning I might as well post up a one year review of Singlehop.com and the dedicated server I am using.

My websites hosted on rig: www.svtsnake.com, www.nsgcenter.com, www.nextlevelhardware.com
My host: SingleHop
My sales rep: Miguel Villegas
My hosting package: Dedicated Server E8400, 2GB ram, 250GB HDD (non raid), Plesk CP with 5 domain license.
My monthly pricing: 189.00 even per month

At the beginning of my term about a year ago I was achieving 2.1 to 3.0 MB/s throughput down and close to 500 KB/s up which is excellent and really incredible for working on SSH Secure Shell for me with uploading and downloading DB files, etc. At this current point in time I have noticed a minor decrease in speed to around 1.5 MB/s download speeds and at nighttime hours around 700K, which is more than ample and still excellent IMO as you will see in this picture: http://nsgcenter.com/dlspeed.jpg

I am very happy with overall throughput of the server at almost all hours. You can check out overall network response time and server DB response by playing around with the vbulletin database I run at svtsnake.com. There is always a huge amount of concurrent users and never any slowdown.

Something else incredible for me with Singlehop so far is network downtime. I can honestly say, since my latest term with them. I was also a customer a few years ago and had a few issues with server downtime that I ceased being a customer with them because of it. However, I was refunded an compensated in a timely matter and everything was taken care of immediately.

However, it seems that as of recently they have improved there infrastructure tremendously because I have NOT been down for 1 second in over 7 months. Even when they schedule downtine, my server has never noticed it. My uptime has been 100% for every single day that I have owned this server on Singlehop.com.

There is one issue that I can say I am very unhappy with, and it is an issue where all partys can be blamed even including myself. I am well aware that there policy states after 3 days of non payment they can shut down server connection. So, I was a customer for seven months when a new single hop account executive named Miguel Villegas joined the team and was my representative. I had changed my cell phone and never updated the file, and at the same time I own multiple businesses and frequently close and open different credit/debit/rewards cards to be used for processing payment. Note that I have never missed a payment with them up until this point. The payment was do on like the 18th of the month or something, and I received the invoice thinking that my credit card on file was automatically going to pay my bill like it always does. But it just so happens that the credit card I had on file with singlehop was stolen at a nightclub in NYC called MansionNYC, and I was pick pocketed. I lost all of my credit cards that night and called up to report all of them stolen. So, obviously I was issued new credit card and I was waiting for them to issue me new cards in the mail and new numbers, which took about 3 to 5 days with most companys. So, here I am 3 days late for payment and I wake up one morning and ALL of my websites are completely shut down. No notification, no warning, just closed and I got an email from Miguel Villegas my account representative explaing that my server was turned off until I remit payment.

I called up Singlehop and I was furiated, yelled almost at the top of my lungs that they simply just shut off a server, after 3 days of payment. Especially in a situation like this and they never even called me up to let me know they were doing this because my cell phone was different on file - which was mis-communication on my part. At this point in time I called up my bank HSBC and got an emergency debit card number to make the payment to Miguel through email and my server was re-activated.

But, 3 days after invoice is due to just cancel someones server or suspend it is definitely not good business policy. I have been a customers for almost a year and the whole incident was a fluke, they didnt have to suspend the server. In my business, we give a customer at least 30 days to pay a bill. But thats not the point, I know there policy states you have 3 days to remit payment or policy account suspension. But I think that is a horrendous policy, especially for emergency situations like I was in. What happens if the owner of a business is dying of an anyeurism in the hospital and is 3 days late with his web payment for his website, does singlehop simply suspend his 16 million hit per month vbulletin forum just because of lack of communication and payment?

I am still a longstanding customer with Singlehop but felt I needed to share that story with everyone. So, yes I am very happy with quality of service, speed of service, tech support, packages offered. But, I am very upset about there payment policy regarding 3 days of lack of payment that just aint right. I really like the attitude and business practices of the execs at the company and they are going to hate me for the negative feedback of my one bad incident with them, but overall Singlehop has my business and will have my business UNTIL either the server is offline every other week, or my DB crashes due to SInglehop issues. LOL Neither I think will be happening anytime soon.

Thanks for reading everyone. If anything, I hope Singlehop reads this and considers modifying there policy regarding server suspension and lack of payment maybe to something more like 10 to 15 days. Not 3 days.

[Review] RAM Host VPS

Jun 24, 2009

This review is based off of my personal experience with RAM Host VPS [url][ over the past 2 weeks.

100MB Test: [url]
My UnixBench results (which I'm told is on a fully loaded server):
[url]

Bottom Line:
Great value VPS provider whose owner has a background in UNIX and security.

Detailed Review:
I'm new to this forum (brought here by the hacking incident of my previous provider since I couldn't actually get any useful information out of them directly), but I have experience in hosting and security and over the past 15 years I've held paying posititions as as UNIX sysadmin, Network engineer, and Security engineer. I've also run my own co-located Linux servers before (even Debian on a SUN pizza box) as well as most recently utilizing shared hosting faclities to run the majority of my web sites. I run Linux (Debian and Ubuntu) as well as MAC OS X at home.

My first experience with VPS hosting was with a VPS provider that had almost a week of downtime due to a hacking incident. I also had another incident with this same provider where I believed the host system was compromised but support totally wrote the incident off, so needless to say, I wasn't off to the best start in the world of VPS's. I knew that I was tired of my shared provider having over-loaded servers, thus resulting in horrible laod times for my Gallery 2 installations, but I wasn't sure about trusting my previous provider since they appeared to have little to no security experience.

My search for a good VPS provider has ended with RAM Host. I found them by seeing them referenced in the "Speed Test" section as well as a "Benchmarking" thread. Their benchmarks and speed proved to be above and beyond what I was getting from my other provider, not to mention I did some research on the company and owner and determined that he was much like me:

From: [url]

Quote:

I also have a business - RAM Host.us - it is shared and virtual dedicated server hosting with professional features run by professionals for professionals. I founded it because I was sick of web hosts who treat their customers like idiots. Because we cater to the smart person, it has the effect of allowing us to charge much less than others - the untapped market of smart people who don't want / need / can afford a full blown dedicated server or expensive VPS and all the administrative overhead that it entails. We cater to the programmers (including the python ones) and webmasters - raw fully-featured web hosting with specifications that can be customized based on your actual needs so you don't pay for stuff you don't want.

Not to mention Robert appears to have security experience and has had paying jobs in the security field. Based on this information, and being in the security field myself, I was convinced that I should at least give the little guy, RAM Host, a shot. I initially inquired with support about my needs and almost immediately received a response. My initial concerns were with regards to continuity of business if something were to happen to the owner since the company appeared to be a small business. Robert assured me that there was another person involved with day-to-day operations that would at least provide me with 1 months notice if something were to happen. This is more than enough time for me to move my sites elsewhere.

My VPS was setup within about 15 minutes of my order being placed. The web console wasn't anything special, but it wasn't HyperVM (which made me happy). It does allow you the abilty to see your IP, bandwidth used, power on/power off/reboot your VPS, and the ability to reload it with the UNIX distribution of your choice. By the end of the day I had already restaged my VPS, moved my sites over (transferred 10GB of data in about 15 minutes!) and they were being served from RAM host. The speed and benchmarks quoted were exactly as advertised. I've had the service for 2 weeks and haven't had any issues with bandwidth or response times to my sites. Ping times are good, and overall connectivity seem to be on par with my previous provider.

You may have concerns about going with a small company to do your hosting, but sometimes the personal service and support you get from a small company outweighs the limitations. Nothing demonstrated this more than not being told what was happening with my previous provider when they were hacked.

Pros:
- Price - 11.99/mo for 40GB Storage, 500GB Transfer, 512/1024MB RAM VPS
- Fast install, fast servers, fast network connection
- Servers are not overloaded or oversold: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU E7200 @ 2.53GHz with between 4-6GB RAM serves typically 9 VPS customers per server, absolute maximum of 11 per server)
- Fast and Knowledgable support; they surely don't treat customers like they are idiots!
- Customized plans so you get exactly what you need.
- Includes weekly backups with customer allowed downloads and support can perform restores if you haven't downloaded the latest backup.
- Not running HyperVM!
- IRC client access is allowed for VPS's (not IRCD)
- Status page updates with upcoming planned outages, etc
- Reported an issue with network speeds when developer was testing backups, and they responded with an answer within 5 minutes and had resolved the issue.

Cons:
- Disks are not running RAID however hardware is new and backups are performed
- No emails were received when an outage occurred however it was on the status page
- Backups are weekly and bandwidth to perform restores are currently limited; however this is currently a work in progress as features are currently in the works for the backup process and should soon provide faster restores (restore data available from the same datacenter). Either way, no matter what your provider provides you for backups, you should make your own (as obvious by many that lost all of their data when FSCKVPS/VAserv was hacked).
- No RDNS.

Xe Host Review

Jun 3, 2008

When I first got into the world of webhosting about 2 or so years ago, my friend introduced me to Xehost, and I'm still a customer there now. I've had a few problems (constantly going over the bandwidth limit, but that might be my own fault) but generally I thought it was pretty good. I of course however had nothing to compare it to.

Cyber Host Pro Review

Mar 5, 2009

I've never written an online review before but felt I really had to find a way of recommending Cyber Host Pro. I've just reached the 2nd anniversary of being a customer of theirs and in 2 years they have not once taken more than 1 hour to respond to a question. Quite often it has literally taken 2 minutes for them to respond to my email.

I really recommend this company as I have never experienced such fast, helpful and polite service. I also think their hosting plans are particularly good value.
Previously I had been with UKHost4U and I thought this group were the worst and most amateur outfit I'd ever seen.

It taught me very quickly that the service is the best thing you can pay for and for this I would definitely say Cyber Host Pro are unbeatable.

Review The Prime Host

Oct 7, 2009

I would like to inform everyone of my experiences with The Prime Host.

3 Months in, I have nothing but good things to say. For all technical issues, they always reply within at LEAST half an hour, and if it's going to take longer to get something done, they come back and inform you they are working on it, they don't keep you in the dark which is one of the biggest things I've noticed that hosting companies do sometimes!

Yes, I've had a couple of problems, one with a particular domain I use that kept getting hacked - but I'm 99.999% sure this was due to a wordpress problem (2.8.4 vulnerabilities anyone? Or possibly an addon), as none of my other domains have been hacked.

Regardless of this being a wordpress error or not, The Prime Host have been nothing but helpful towards me during the whole process. Darrel (Owner??) & the other support crew are great - they offer advice on what we can do to help prevent future problems etc.

I guess the biggest things for me currently are:
Speed of response
Speed of page loading
Competence of support staff
Uptime

For the price I pay, and the benefits I get (WHMReseller, WHMCS License), this really is a SPECTACULAR service.

I will update this thread as time goes on.

LiquidWeb Review And Other Vps Host

Apr 24, 2008

WHT reviews and foru input have been a great help for me in figuring out what new VPS hosts to go with. So I'm posting this to offer similar insight and helpful information. Based on reviews here and other research, Final 3 picks

1. KnownHost

2. PCJAGUAR

3. LiquidWeb

(was also considering wiredtree but they only been around since June 2006)

Factors: Servers, support, price, complaints

All 3 host where about the same for servers, support and price-wise they all in the same ballpark.

Knownhost - no complaints found
The other 2 - yes complaints found

The main reason we chose LIQUIDWEB:

faster ping test, has phone number for support, replied to complaints properly.

VSP setup - 1/2day

SUPPORT ISSUES:

1- Sonar Service Monitoring states: Error retrieving monitoring information

1 hour 15min. for un-automated reply and issue fix in 15 minutes

2- ERROR WHEN LOGIN INTO WHM OR VPS PANEL
website certified by unknown authority - security error: domain name mismatch
security certificate error and Nameserver problem

15 min. for un-automated reply and issues answered properly.

1st issue - The certificate error that shows up when logging into CPanel/WHM is normal, as it is a self-signed cert. You can just tell your browser to accept the certificate and you should not receive the error any more.

2nd issue - The hostname entry can be fixed by simply clicking the button to automatically add an A record in WHM

3. E-mail being returned problem with its delivery.

15 min. for un-automated reply and issues answered properly.

It appears that an udpate was made with your registrar yesterday which may be causing this issue. (My domain registar was taken a little longer than usually in DNS propagation)

4. questions concerning server config, ClamAv, Trojan Horse scan results, configuring cpanel backup, cPanel/WHM Updates.

6 min. for un-automated reply and issues answered properly.

So far, network availability has been excellent and the support team has been helpful. I only wish that thier Knowlege base was a little more expanded for VSP functions are not setup by them that are optional and should be properly configured to tighten up the server further.

Will updated again about Liquidweb in a month or so.

also have a reseller account at Hostgator for about 2 months now after switching over from fatnetwork, good so far.

My Power Host Review

Sep 29, 2008

While searching on Ebay I came across a company offering hosting at $1 first month 18.95 every other month for master reseller hosting. This company refers to themselves as Xpaw Media with there hosting company "My Power Host". To start, they lie to you, and say you can host anything. I asked before becoming a member if I could host remote proxies. They said this would be fine. I started selling proxy websites WITH hosting to make a little extra income. After a couple of weeks, having several paying customers, I notice ALL my accounts have been suspended. I contact them complaining, and they say they no longer allow remote proxies. I lost nearly 40 paying customers!

CI Host 3 And 1/2 Year Review

May 20, 2007

CI Host has really gone through some changes when I started with them. I have had dedicated servers before for personal projects and such. This was my first colocation.

Starting Up
Signing up was a bit of a pain, as I had to sign my contract and fax it off a few times. I'm not sure what the mix-up was. On all three I had cover sheets with who it needed to go to and what it was.

Set up after I shipped the server was pretty quick. I was using their Dallas Datacenter at this point.

Dallas Datacenter
CI Host was pretty much selling a budget network service which was fine for me. As long as it would stay up. I didn't have any network down time that was too horrible, though I do run a site with a lot of visitors around the clock. They had a couple of incidents with "Emergency Maintenance", however, they don't usually tell you much unless you call the techs. at the DC directly.

Their Dallas DC bottlenecked worse and worse. My download and upload speeds started to get much slower. Everything was loading just like their website does now. The big delay and then the gzipped site loads all at once.

Chicago Datacenter
I had my server shipped to their Chicago DC and they then wanted me to sign a new contract with them, which I didn't want to do at this point. They also wanted me to pay overnight shipping. They promised me better peers and no bottlenecks. The shipping fee was a reasonable requirement, however, I tried to talk them into letting me try the network for 30 days before signing a new contract (I'd still be paying for the service though!). They politely said that they couldn't do that. So I sent anyway....

The server arrived. Fast too. They didn't install the server so fast. It seems they hooked it up and forgot to assign my new IP Addresses. It did come up. There was some downtime at first. I called the DC and asked about it. They said it was my CAT 5e cable and it was intermittant, so they were crimping me a new one.

There was still a little bit of network downtime as twice a DC tech. "tripped over my router's power cord", which was plausible.

I needed a reboot for a kernel update. They were very slow with their "Emergency Number", so I called the DC directly.

No answer. None. Many times. I called their Dallas Corporate. The menu sent me to customer support where I immediately asked to talk to their supervisor who I then in turn immediately asked where the DC Techs. in Chicago were. They had acted surprised and had one that called me back from Chicago in about 30 minutes and reboot my server.

Their network was better, but nothing to brag about. It was still Cogent afterall. Soon after they fired their DataCenter Manager in Dallas and Chicago after many complaints, so I was told. They also seemed to had forgotten that I needed to sign a new contract for the move. Though I get billed of course and keep my payments up.

Soon after the change of managers the promised new peers came online. YIPES! and GlobalCrossing. Still nothing to brag about from CI Host's DataCenter. I was bursting up to 11 Mb/s up and down if I needed. The routes to the server didn't have any bad switches or horrible latency spikes.

They had at least one tech. there at all times. They also seemed a bit more helpful when I called. And they had finally gotten a crash cart (monitor, keyboard, mouse, etc.) to hook up to the server if needed instead of having to take awhile to find the equipement and set it up.

Their knowledge of Linux left much to be desired for the most part. But you get what you pay for and I could walk them through anything that I needed them to do.

There was one incidence of my log rotator seg faulting causing my webserver to go down and called me letting me know. I'm not sure why as when I've brought my webserver down for recompiles and such in the past they had never called me. The did hook it up in their office and troubleshot and fixed it for me as I was away on vacation. They never charged me for it.

Their Data Center is obviously undermanned by the way. There is usually one technician everytime I call. Sometimes there have been two.

The network has gotten a bit better it seems in the past year. Doing traceroutes to my server have revealed using SAVVIS provided by Equinix.

Sales
At the beginning of my colocation I was given a "Dedicated Sales Rep." by the name of Richard Lusk. He was great. He used to check in on me to see if I was happy with the service every so often and once when my bank changed software to interact with Visa, my card was denied and Richard kept my server up until a couple of days later when my bank's software was working and I paid.

Later, I was assigned a new Sales Rep. apparently who never has talked to me, except for a few inquries to which she was pretty slow at getting back to me on. Afterwards I just used the sales dept. for iqueries and they were just as slow. Mostly I kept up on new deals and such.

Just recently I sent in an email to them with 17 questions and two days later they answered two of them. I guess they researched one question a day? I'm sure their phone sales is probably better. But I do hate being on hold for any amount of time.

Conclusion
I guess you could say that I've had mixed dealings with CI Host. They seem to be improving in some areas and devolving in others. I wouldn't recommend their network to a webhosting provider, except maybe as a cheap solution for fail-over (as the backup).

I've never rented a dedicated machine from them, so I can't really comment about them, except that they have some bad reviews here about it.

Just remember that you get what you pay for and all Data Centers are not equal.

Downtown Host : Ongoing Review

Aug 19, 2009

I recently picked up an account with Downtown Host to host my dad's site and wanted to start a thread that I will update as time goes by. I know there's a "honeymoon period" with most hosts and sometimes, like my wife (LOL.. kidding *hides*), things change as things progress..but I have been very impressed.

So, to get things started...

Ordering Process

Easy as it usually is these days. Although the space isn't really needed, I picked up their Bronze plan for 6 months and it worked out to be about $50 USD thanks to a handy coupon. This is the first time I have ever had enough preliminary confidence in a host to go for 6 months up front (outside of getting a ridiculous deal) and I hope to not to be disappointed and regret the decision.

DTH does use a phone call fraud verification system on new orders which I appreciate. I think it shows that they are proactive in sorting out bad purchases and is one of the nicer fraud-detection interfaces I have come across. I believe Wirenine is the only other host I have used that employs a similar system.

Jorge (Jedito on WHT) was very helpful in the ordering process which, again, I appreciate and was pro-active in helping me getting me on board quickly even going so far as to drop me a line welcoming me aboard.

Initial Transfer, Etc.

Once again, very easy. There were a few hiccups that were issues on the previous host's side in terms of creating cPanel back ups so things could get moved over. Both techs were extremely helpful and kept me updated throughout the process, notifying me of even the slightest issue (again, none on their side) in getting files moved over for two domains, some of which included add-on domains.

One of the sites I moved over included a wordpress blog that was previous its own account under a reseller plan so I had a question regarding the process of switching over the MySQL database information to ensure the blog worked off the tip. Again, DTH was very helpful and gave me instructions on what I needed to do to make sure there was no interruption in serving the blog. They certainly didn't have to help me with the changes so it was really nice of them to do so.

Performance

In a word - fast. Once the nameservers switched over for the main site (cincihost-dot-com), I entered the address and *bam*. No lagged delays with larger-sized images, they just popped up. Previously, the page loaded somewhat "in order". Not anymore. I hit "Enter" and it was there. Nice.

cPanel loads fast and in checking the server load here and there, it is always below 1.00.

Support

As I have alluded to above, support is fantastic. The first ticket I submitted took a bit to be responded to which was worrying. Who knows what happened, but it was responded to, oddly, shortly after I mentioned it to someone. From that point, support has been lightning fast. As I think happens a lot of times, I have submitted a few tickets in order to get everything set up and going and they have all been responded to or updated within 15 to 20 minutes. I recently submitted a ticket to have my cPanel theme changed (it default to a RVSkin which I do not like) and it was resolved in, literally, one minute. Fastest support I have ever experienced.

Summation

Really the only thing I didn't like was that cPanel loads the green RVSkin which seems cartoony to me and I much prefer the original x3 theme. This was quickly changed so no biggie.

Everything else has been absolutely fantastic as you can probably surmise.

I look forward to being hosted with DTH and have a good feeling that my father and I will be with them for a long time to come.

Thanks to Jorge, Sebastian and everyone at Downtown Host!

Hawk Host - Month Review

Oct 9, 2009

I have used Hawkhost in the past for a forum (pre-Litespeed change over) I was running and was very pleased. My boss needed a host for her site and HH was one of the first that came to mind. After a quick browse here, it seemed like a no brainer.

I'm happy to say that Hawkhost is still a great host for me and in some aspects, even better than before.

The thing that has really impressed me is the server and network speed. Both of the sites I have with them are purely static content and are noticeably faster than any other host I have used. Proof, to me anyway, that Litespeed really does make a difference. Uptime has been great as well - I'm sitting at 100% since August 26th.

Support is helpful, I have only needed them once for help with a weird directory issue.

I submitted the ticket as medium priority at 10:30 am, first response was at 11:14 and the issue was resolved at 12:08. Not as fast as some other hosts but still adequate by my standards. I wish they would have told me what the issue was, I have never run in to the problem before in 9 years of paid web hosting, but whatever. It got fixed and I guess that is all that matters.

I am signed up with HH for a year (for something like 22 dollars) so I will continue to update this thread as time goes by.

For verification purposes, the domains hosted with them are here and here.
