How To Restore Awstats From Normal Hosting Account To Addon Domain
I have created a addon domain using cpanel.
I would like to restore awstats from prevous host (normal account) to 'addon domain' (domain2-addon.domain.co.uk).
My backup awstats:
awstats.domain.co.uk.conf
awstats122005.domain.co.uk.txt
awstats052005.domain.co.uk.txt
etc.
need to restore it to addon domain? but addon domain is setup under domain2-addon.domain.co.uk
so i have to rename each file like awstats.domain2-addon.domain.co.uk.conf etc?

Wondering What Is Normal - Hosting Mutliple Sites On One Account
I am just wondering what is normal when you point a domain name to a folder on an existing hosting account, as far as the urls in the address bar go? I have my own website which has mega space, and my host allows up to 5 domains to be hosted in folders...so I thought I'd host b/friend's new website there. His site is a WordPress installation. I pointed the A record of his domain name to my hosts ip address , and it resolved fine. However, when I click on any of his articles, the full url of mysite is displayed in the address bar of the browser, which I don't want. I've never tried to host another site on mysite before and just wondering what is normal as far as urls go? I'm thinking I've either missed a step somewhere, or it's a WordPress thing, or a host thing, or it's normal and I'm wasting my time trying to find a fix. The ideal situation would be that the full urls of his_site are showing in the browser address bar.

Two Domain Names For One Hosting Account
I have several domain names and I pay for hosting for each domain name. Each domain name gets little traffic, uses little bandwidth, and little storage space. I would like to pay for hosting once and share the bandwidth and storage space amongst the multiple sites. Do you know of a hosting company that offers this? I suppose it would involve having one hosting account and multiple IP addresses that resolve to different folders in your account?

Addon Domain
I have a domain with 2 addon domains added to it. Lets call the domain1.com and the addons are domain2.com and domain3.com I transfered the sites from one server to my server and know if I try to goto domain2.com or domain3.com they are not found. If I goto domain1.com/domain2 (or 3) it works just fine though. I tried to do the addon domain in cpanel but it is coming up with the following errors. Bind reloading on server using rndc zone: [domain1.com] The subdomain, domain2.domain1.com has been added. Error from park wrapper: domain2.com is already configured. Removed domain2.domain1.com Server at line: 1244. Removed Entry from httpd.conf Bind reloading on server using rndc zone: [domain1.com] The subdomain, domain2.domain1.com has been removed. domain2.com could not be setup. The subdomain domain2.domain1.com was not setup either. How can I fix this? I did try to make domain2 its own account after that, but the script did not work for some reason even though it does if I goto domain1.com/domain2. I know it must be something simple I am missing, but for the life of me I am drawing a blank. Also, I moved the site by doing a complete backup in Cpanel and uploaded that to the new server and restored it from the WHM backup screen.

Addon Domain
I currently have an established domain, mainsite.com, which is running PHP-Nuke on the directory /home, with a redirect accordingly. Now, I've created an addon domain, 2ndsite.com, for which I've installed Wordpress at the top-level. The trouble is, 2ndsite.com defaults to mainsite.com/home - unless I redirect 2ndsite.com to mainsite.com/2ndsite. If I do that, I can then see my WordPress installation. I'd obviously like to have 2ndsite.com be viewed from that address, as opposed to a subdir under mainsite.com - that is why I got the domain in the first place.

GoDaddy Tells Me It's Normal To See The Folders Of Some Random Persons Account
I signed up with GoDaddy shared hosting just a couple days ago. I logged into my site using SSH and FileZilla. And I see hundreds of folders and files that are not mine. These are files from some random account. These are not the basic starter-folders/files. Yet when I connect via FTP (not SSH), I only see the regular starter-set with just a few folders and a few files (not hundreds). This seemed totally loopy, so I called customer support, and the support guy agreed that it was not right. He "escalated" the issue to technical support. I received an email from them asking for screenshots of all these random files I see via SSH. I sent in the screenshots of FileZilla showing all these files. Then GoDaddy responded with this: -------------------------------------------- Dear Sir/Madam, Thank you for contacting Hosting Support. We have reviewed your hosting account [edit] and SSH does in fact show more files than typical FTP. This is normal and not something to be alarmed about. As you are on the shared environment there is certain folders that you will not be able to access, one such example provided in your screenshots is 'herawellness', attempting to access this directory will result in a access denied error. If you are attempting to upload web content you will need to put the content in the the /html/ directory. If you are having trouble using SSH you may want to consult your favorite search engine for assistance with SSH commands. Please contact us if you have any further issues. Regards, Adam M. I create a abc.com domain hosting in whm. then I login to abc.com cpanel to AddOn Domain. I try to addon xyz.com into abc.com cpanel. Can a domain be parked on an addon domain in a cPanel server? At first thought I do not see it as a problem as a ServerAlias directive for the parked inside the addon domain Virtual Host container inside httpd.conf is all is required but cPanel may not allow for all it's wisdom. Restoring Accounts To Addon Domain
Currently, 2 domains hosted on a dedicated server with each account having its own Cpanel. I'm going to move/migrate these 2 domains to a shared hosting server. The shared hosting accont has Cpanel and I've added 2 Add-on domains (the same ones on the dedicated). Addon Domain, Cant Have Password Protected Folders
I have 2 domains on 1 account. My main website is www.aviationcafe.net and i added on www.modelcuir.com thats what it looks like to the public. But with my host it will be www.modelcuir.aviationcafe.net. I noticed in the files area that modelcuir is it's own file, i can password protect that but it will stop people getting onto the website completly and i only want to stop them getting into the members area. I can't create a members area either unless i can add a new folder which i can't i dont think.

E-mail From Addon Domain Flagged As Junk
I have an addon domain running on my webhosting along side my primary account. I am mostly using the Thunderbird client to send e-mails. 80% of the time when I send a mail out from "name@addondomain.com" hotmail, gmail, yahoo all see it as spam! What's ironic is I receive more darn adult e-mails in my free accounts than anything else, and yet it's thinking the occasional mass personal message is SPAM? So these guys that flood my inbox daily must know something I don't? Is there something I'm doing incorrectly? Or do I need to change a hosting package setting, should I use different software such as a php mailing list?

Addon Domains Vs Separate Domain Pros/cons
I'm trying to understand more the Pro's and Con's for having an Addon Domain vs Separate domain. Here's my use for it. Site1.com holds all the files, Site2.com holds all the video and images. When it comes time to add a second server (end of this year) I could move Site2.com to a second server and nfs mount it. Thats of the site is separate. PROBLEM: separate site means permission problems, when write code ie.php you can unlink / move files without permission which means setting up special groups. Addon domain doesn't have the permission problem from what I can see, since the domain gets the group access of the Mainsite. so no extra configuration required. now the problem would be how do I get that addon domain to a second server to offload some of the resources.

Do Any Good Hosts Provide A CPanel That Keeps Addon Domain Lists In Order
I find that I like using CPanel with addon domains in a new unlimited domains shared plan rather than using WHM with each name having its own CPanel in a reseller plan (which I have been used to until now at another host). The only problem is that all the addon domains are out of order - they are not even in the order in which I add them. This puts a damper on things and makes managing them much less efficient than one would expect with the addons in order. After putting in a support ticket, I was told they can't do anything about it at all. They told me the order of the listing is the order in the "mail server apache configuration." After posting this matter here in the Apache forum, I have been informed by an SP member that the answer I got wouldn't hold any water at all, or more accurately, consists of a whole lot of smoke. As a person who knows how easy and basic it is to sort data lists or drop-down form selector fields myself, I must admit that it's hard to believe nothing can be done in the 21st century. I have no desire at all to go with another reseller plan, and like using CPanel instead with addons. Does anyone know of the good and well known unlimited domain hosting providers who keep the addon domains in order within CPanel? Is there any other good option for shared hosting that doesn't involve using WHM and does offer common sense multiple domain management where everything is in order?

Host will only update DNS in batches, takes several hours for a DNS change, is that normal? Well today my mail stopped working and it turns out the A record for mail was deleted. How it got deleted I don't know. I called my host and after speaking to 2 techs, they said that have added my request to a batch, and that would update in a few hours. I said to him, batch? What can't you do it instantly? He said thats not the way their DNS works and any DNS change would affect thousands of other sites they are hosting. Does anyone know what kind of dns system these people could possibly have where they can not reload a single zone? And by affected, I think he means the sites will go down for a minute or so, while it relaods every zone. Is this really the case, or are these people just idiots?

Apollo Hosting Deleted Our Website And Can't Restore Sql
We have been with Apollo hosting for 5 or so years. 10 days ago, our entire site went down. After waiting around 4 days and hours of dealing with tech support, they got a shell of our website back up. Their excuse for deleting it was that they ran a script on their servers that was corrupt, which in error, deleted our site. They were unable to restore our database, SQL, php, search functions, etc. as they said they deleted them and did not have a back up as databases took up too much room on servers!! And they cannot restore what is no longer there. We have to rebuild our database all over again, hundreds of hours of work with property descriptions and photos, forms, etc. After this experience with Apollo hosting our fear level is high and our trust level is low. We need help with finding a new web host. Currently paying Apollo $ 30. mo for shared hosting. We need Front Page extension, pph,SQL. Want web host that backs up entire website daily on tape that stores off-site. I have researched some on web hosting review sites and better business bureau online, and find many complaints for various webhosts.

FTP Account Name With Domain Suffix
We have several Cpanel account(web sites) with different IP in one box. Then we cut down to one single IP. While as the Cpanel is not availble, I re-configured apache to bind account to domain name , instead of IP as previously configured. So before when I use a user name like "james" to ftp, it was working, but not now. Now, I have to use james@domain.com to to ftp. Someone changed pure-ftp setttings somewhere which I don't know how he did it and I actually don't know if he helped or not on this problem. At least , ftp is working. But I really do want to know the relevancies between these matters. Cpanel is not available yet ( not licensed ); IP being cut from sereval to one which supples multiple web sites; Pure-ftpd seems needed to be configured.

Use A GMail Account? Watch Your Domain
After reading numerous accounts (27 and counting) of people's domains being stolen I decided to investigate the situation more closely. What follows is my personal investigation. Without jumping to any conclusions as to how all of these domains were hijacked, I gathered the facts and sat back to see where the common denominators were. All of the domains had GMail accounts listed in whois. Many of the domains were hosted with GoDaddy Many of them had Alexa rankings of less than 10,000 While the GoDaddy connection was interesting, the fact that all of the hijacked domains had GMail accounts stood out as the real common thread. It's still not clear how the hijacker was able to obtain access to the GMail accounts it is clear that using a GMail account for your domain registrations may not be a wise decision. We have seen infectious code on websites designed to either steal cookies or check to see if the visitor also has GMail opened in another window. A few cases involved visiting a webpage while GMail was opened and the webpage doing a POST to a GMail interface and injecting an email filter into the visitor's GMail settings. Typically the injection would include filters that would automatically skip the inbox and forward emails from register.com, godaddy.com and dreamhost.com to another GMail email account. Then with forwarding set and knowledge of the registered email address, the hijacker would have use GoDaddy's website to obtain the customer number, which requires a verification email. Armed with that information, the hijacker would go back to GoDaddy and have an Authorization Code for password reset, sent to the registered email address. The password would be sent to the email address, which would be forwarded to the hijacker and then they could move the domain to another registrar, change the website and benefit from the traffic to that website. Or in some of these recent cases, the hijacker asked for $2,000 in order to "give" the domain back. How did this happen? Creating a filter in your GMail account sends a request to the GMail server farm. The request is an obfuscated URL with each section identifying the filter, the account, etc. Many of the parameters passed in the URL can be generated accurately but one parameter needs the cookie from the account holder's computer. They can obtain this quite easily with any general cookie stealing technique (there are many). What can you do? For starters, this isn't the first exploit of GMail accounts. I would switch all of my domains to be registered to a different email address. Secondly, I would pay the extra money to have your domain information listed as Private. This way your contact information will not show up on whois searches. GoDaddy offers Protected Registration if you're already listed with them. Third, if you do use GMail, check your filters often. And check your deleted items as well. You never know what you might find in there. Anyone here have any stories to share about domains hijacked?

Primary Domain Change For WHM Account
I have a hostee who as part of an out-of-court settlement, needs to change the primary domain they host on. The domain they're switching to is already a parked domain on their account. At first blush, it seems like it would be pretty easy, but now I'm concerned about their email. Both of the principals of the company use Horde extensively for webmail, and as such I have files on the server for their email accounts. What I was thinking about doing is this: 1. Stop parking the "new" domain on the account. 2. Change the account from using the "old" domain in WHM to the "new" domain by modifying the account in WHM. 3. Forwarding email sent to user@old.domain to user@new.domain, in CPanel. 4. Assorted changes on website to account for the new domain - published email addresses, new SSL cert, things like that. My concern is in how to move the mail files, currently set up to be for user@old.domain, to be readable by Horde as user@new.domain, so it's seamless to the users. We will be keeping the old domain under our control, but not using it to point to the site any more; I just don't want to have to tell them "OK, to get your old email, you have to check this address, and to get new email, you have to check this one." Would my plan above actually accomplish that? Is there a better way within a WHM/CPanel framework to accomplish what I need without losing email or access to it? What am I missing?

VPS Account With Multiple Domain Setup
I have a VPS account with WHM/Cpanel console access. I have three domains that I am trying to setup. Within WHM I have setup three different accounts, one for each domain. I am able to login to the cPanel for all three accounts. This also created a new web directory for each domain in /home/domain_name/public_html/. I have placed my default index.php in all three public_html with the same permissions. But only 1 domain is working the other two are not. What am I missing? Hosting Multiple Sites On The Same Hosting Account. Getting A Weird Redirect
I have about 5 sites all hosted on my same hosting account. One of those domains is attached to the hosting account. I place my other domains in a folder of a sub-directory of my main domain. This has been working fine, up until today when i noticed a weird error. Hosting Account Management Tool
What do you use to manage all of your hosted accounts? We have 2 servers, and about 95 clients. We bill our clients yearly. I cant seem to rely on plesk or cpanel for billing renewal dates, owner, etc. IS there a program out there to help me see what account is due when, etc? Also who the owner is. Ideally, Id love it o track by server, or view all, as well as show expiration notifications. We are just to the point where managing these on excel is getting messy.

Second Hosting Account In Case Of Failure
I'm reeling right now after my shared hosting has been down for more than 24 hours (and this isn't one of the super-cheapies, it's in the $20-$30/month range) In the future I'd really like to be protected against this kind of outage... I know downtime is inevitable with any host, so I'm wondering if it's possible to have some kind of failover system. Maybe I could get a second account with a bargain basement host (<$10/month) and keep it relatively up to date with a mirror of my site. But I don't know how I could manage the DNS so it went to the second host in the even of a failure on the first.... Does this kind of redundancy exist as some product in the industry that I don't know about (is that what "colocation" is?)? Is it likely that my host has the ability/willingness to redirect my domain (302 or something) in times of trouble like this?

Multiple URL’s With 1 Web Hosting Account
I am trying to determine the best design approach for this business need. There are multiple URLs: [url] [url] [url] The URLs are going to be specific to a topic but the displaying of the pages is template based. For example, there is 1 JSP page that will display the content for a topic based on an ID. [url]is ID 1 in my database table. [url]is ID 2 in my database table. [url]is ID 3 in my database table. So I could do a form post to display the specific content for a topic. Code: <form name="frmTopic" action=”/topic” method="Post"> <input type="hidden" name="topicID" id="topicID" value=""> </form> So by populating the topicID and posting this form, it directs to my JSP page and displays the content specific to the topic ID. So if I pass 1, content about cats is displayed. If I pass 2, dogs and 3, birds. I want to keep the URLs specific to the topic but I do not want to pay for hosting for each site since the only difference from one site to another is 1 page. The 1 page is the page that tells the JSP page which topic to display (I realize I have to hard code the ID number after I add the topic to the database). Here is my question. Is there a way I can have a specific index.htm page for each site [url]with one hosting account (I am using GoDaddy)? Then I could have this page redirect to the template JSP passing the ID. I could then put very specific items about the topic on this page to hopefully improve its page rank in search engines. If this is not possible, I could create an initial JSP page that checks the ServerVariable for the specific URL and then passes the ID… something like this: Request.ServerVariables("SERVER_NAME") I am looking for feedback on the best approach so if there is an option that I have not listed that is better, please let me know.
