Sending Email To Another Server When The Email Address Domain Is On This Server
Jun 24, 2008I currently have a domain on Server 1 (Linux, Apache, Ubuntu, Matrix control panel).
This server does not have any spam filter, so I have moved all the email accounts to Server 2 (Linux, Apache, Fedora Core, Plesk) which does have a brilliant spam filter; and have changed the DNS record for mail.domain.com to the IP address for Server 2.
Emails are being successfully received on Server 2.
On Server 1, when an email is sent through SMTP to an address at that domain, it does not send it to Server 2, it gets delivered to the hosting account for the domain on Server 1. So what I am guessing is happening is that Server 1 detects the domain has an account on the server, and instead of looking up the DNS info for that domain, just assumes it is on Server 1.
What I need to do, is force Server 1 to send email for that domain to Server 2. Is this possible, and if so, how can it be achieved? If more info about the server is required for a solution please let me know and I'll provide what I can.
What's The Best Way To Setup Offsite Email (rackspace) With Server
Jun 28, 2009We have a server where we host the sites and email services, and we are looking to buy a MS Exchange offsite email solution in order to have a reliable dedicated email service.
We are thinking on going with Rackspace MS Exchange solution:

So now its the hard part, i run my own dns / nameservers at this server so if i just change the mx at my Plesk panel if my webserver goes offline my email will also stop working, correct?
And at my registrar i only can change the name of the nameservers and the ips... and also add more nameservers (im using 2 ns).
So i need to figure it out how to config/setup the rackspace email in a way that when my webserver goes offline my email can keep up working.
The rackspace support team, said to me that they can host/run my dns on their servers in order to have my email working if my webserver goes offline.
So what do you think? Its a goo idea? The only idea?
Or there are better ideas?

We have tree server located in montreal.
Two are running web services, one of them is only for dns ( home server ).
Two main server have Whm/Cpanel.
One run Cpanel Dns only.
Main server have 7 ips each
Dns server, only have 1
Let say we use domain xxx.com
Right now we have ns1/ns2/ns3/ns4 point to server1
ns5/ns6/ns7 point to server2
We have no Nameserver that point to our dns only server for now.
I'd like to advoid runing DNS Service on all of them, maybe having two slave one master would be fine. Question: What would be the best suited dns setup with my current config for best responding time and fast replication?

Apr 17, 2014I want to use Gmail to host my email. I have already confirmed my domain and now I can successfully send emails via my domain.
However in order to receive emails I need to add/update the MX records on my server. I did that (I think) but now, 24h later, the records don't seem to be updated yet.
For instance intodns.com still shows that there is only one MX record: [URL] ....
This is my setup where you can clearly see the MX records required by Google:
I changed the TTL to some minutes but still the changes don't seem to be propagated.
The screenshots are taken from "Website & Domains" -> my domain -> DNS - that should be the right thing to change, correct?

The site is protected by an SSL cert... my question is how do i set up the server(s) so if/when the backup server needs to be switched into produciton, the SSL cert will transition flawlessly?

How To Setup A Redundant Server For A Domain Name To Reduce Downtimes
Oct 29, 2008I have registered a domain using godaddy. I have hosted my site on a server of my shared hosting provider(lets call them X).Currently I have pointed mydomain.com to the server and it is up and running.Sometimes, I have experienced downtimes.
In order to solve this problem, I have hosted a clone of my site on another server from another hosting company(lets call them Y).
1. I want mydomain.com to point to Y when X is down
2. again point it to X when it is up.
My main aim is to have my site live with less downtime. The probability having both servers down is very less.
I dont know if it is technically feasible, just a thought out of dirty mind. I tried to google but was not able to find an answer specific to my problem.
Can anybody tell me how to achieve this through godaddy domain.
Added note, My site is not a commercial site and I cant afford large dedicated servers with clustering and failovers.

Jan 21, 2009I am having a slight email issue after moving my DNS to DNS Made Easy. On my wordpress blog I have it set to email me comments which the blog does just fine but ever since the DNS change I am having a weird issue. I use gmail for my email which threads emails. Now everytime I get a comment on the blog wordpress sends a new email and gmail doesn't thread them like it used to.
Do i need to add something to my DNS for mail. I never added anything and the server is obvisoulsy sending mail. Yep I am a noob and a little lost. I hope you understand what I am getting at here.

Nov 7, 2009This is the scenario, domain.com are setup on server1, however server2 also has the same profile of domain.com as we use ns3 and ns4 using domain.com. This works fine with the nameserver setup on server2.
However I encounter problems as the emails from server2 won't reach server1 as there are duplicate profile on server2.
My question is how do I setup the DNS in cpanel/whm from server2 so the emails from server2 will reach server1?

Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Domain Migration To New Server / What To Do With Email During DNS Update
Jun 4, 2014I have upgraded to a new server and need to move all domains, users, and most important all email accounts to the new server.
Both servers run Plesk 11.0.9 on CentOS. The migration manager works great, no problems with that.
After migrating, I change my DNS settings at an external DNS provider to the new IP. The problem is, DNS changes take time. I then get emails on the old server and on the new server until DNS information is spread.
I was searching for a way to let the old server forward to the new one, but changes for specific domains in plesks DNS system (MX record) on the old server did not work. The mails still arrived at the old server.
What can i do? Can I uncheck "Activate mail service on domain" and will all emails be rejected until DNS points to the new server? Or will that lead to bounces?

Feb 28, 2008I have a dedicated linux server that has 16 IP addresses... and one of those IP address is the main (or shared) IP of the server. So I can host a ton of websites on that one shared IP, and can optionally move individual accounts to one of the 15 other dedicated IP's if I so desire.
I put an account on it's own dedicated IP and it works fine. But I've noticed all my email being sent out is being filtered into people's spam folders... be it hotmail, gmail, yahoo, outlook, etc. My DNS is setup great as far as I can tell (DNSreport confirms) and I have SPF/domainkeys installed for this one account... so I shouldn't have problems authenticating my emails.
The only thing I can think of that would be causing problems for my mail being filtered as spam, is that since this account is on one of my dedicated IP's... that these mail providers (yahoo, etc) are looking at the incoming connection claiming to be the host, which is the main (or shared) IP of the server, and then looking at the MX record for the domain that the email address is, which points to that dedicated IP... and since they don't match... the email provider rejects the email cause the two IP's aren't matching.
Is this a valid assumption? And if so, is there anything I can do about it besides moving that one account back to the shared IP? For the life of me I can't figure this out.

Email Backup Setup

I have a cPanel server in my office which handles the email for 2 domains.
I've also got a reseller account on a helm server.
What I want to do is: if I have a problem with the office server (outage) all emails will be routed to the helm server then delivered back to the office server once available. So any incoming email wont be bounced/lost.

Setup Email Account - Does Not Work
Jun 18, 2008I have a VPS server now with 1and1.com (no wait times with tech support, and very friendly and helpful), only problem is... they haven't been able to help me resolve one of my problems.
My client has their domain registered with Network Solutions. I've already changed the DNS settings to point to my VPS where I've created the domain within Plesk. I can log into my FTP, change the site, yadda yadda yadda just like any other site. So everything works there!
Now, when I create an email account in Plesk I put in my user/pass etc... and create an email account... Great, awesome.
I go into Outlook and put in the email information, incoming/outgoing mail settings, user/pass, etc... and nothing works... It pops up and pretty much nothing happens.
What am I doing wrong for this to not work? Do I have to create a sub domain within Plesk for my domain? If so, I've already done that.
Must I change something over at Network Solutions to reflect the mail server? If so, I've added the MX records of mail.mydomain.com with prio of 10.
What is up? What am I doing wrong? :-(

Want To Setup SSL For IMAP Email And Their Cpanels

I have a dedicated server and many hosted customers, I want to setup SSL for IMAP email and their cpanels.
Instead of purchasing individual SSL certificates for each domain. I was thinking to just use my hostanme (eg host.myhostname.net) and direct them to that as I have seen the option in WHM.
My question is can I use an SSL cert for email that will act as a "fleetwide" SSL cert?
For example instead of using mail.theirdomain.com could I just use mail.myhostname.com and would it give them SSL without warnings? Of course they would set their email client to mail.myhostname.com..
Is it safe or recommend to use your hostname? I read somewhere to never use your hostname as a domain.. so not sure.

Oct 2, 2007I basically bought a HPS Complete VPS hosting account with EuroVPS and i am having problems setting up an email client as no web mail client comes by default with that plan.
I asked the eurovps support team 2-3 times on how to set up MS Outlook as my email client for my domain and they answered the same thing and it's not working.
I was wondering,if anyone of you have HSP Complete VPS hosting account with euroVPS and is there anyway to have webmail.
As per there documentation,i am using the following:

Selected to use authentication for outgoing server and checked the option to use same authentication method as incoming server,

Jan 28, 2008One of our customers need to use a domain.de (.de ext), he registered the domain using godaddy, and godaddy have a few very special requirements for .de domains:
• The first 3 bits of the IP address (C-class) is different for each name server.
• A glue record is necessary for the domain on the name servers.
• The SOA (Start of Authority) must be within the following guidelines:
refresh : 10000 - 86400
retry: 1800 -28800
expire: 604800 - 3600000
ttl: 180 - 345600
This is all done, 2 different C class IPs for each name servers, glue record, and SOA has been configured between specified values. Because of the 2 C class, we created DNS at server1, and pointed all www traffic to server2 (where the domain.de will be hosted)

DNS Setup - Hosting Website Internally - Email Externally
Jul 1, 2008IIS 7.0 - I host several websites. On one of them, the email is hosted externally and not through my exchange server. I have added an MX record to point to the mail server for this domain, but I still get an error when I attempt to send an email from within my local area network. There are no problems with emails generated outside my network, but for emails generated to this domain from within my network, I get the following error:
The e-mail account does not exist at the organization this message was sent to. Check the e-mail address, or contact the recipient directly to find out the correct address.
<mail.<mydomain>.com #5.1.1>
Incidentally, the <mydomain> value does not match the domain for this email domain.
Instead it is the primary domain that I host.
I know that this must be a DNS issue, but I'm not sure how to correct.
VPS Account With Multiple Domain Setup
Apr 11, 2008I have a VPS account with WHM/Cpanel console access. I have three domains that I am trying to setup. Within WHM I have setup three different accounts, one for each domain. I am able to login to the cPanel for all three accounts. This also created a new web directory for each domain in /home/domain_name/public_html/. I have placed my default index.php in all three public_html with the same permissions. But only 1 domain is working the other two are not. What am I missing? I have confirmed that all three have the correct DNS servers with godaddy and I can do an nslookup on all three. My provider told me to share the IP so that is what I am configured as..
