What Kind Of A Hosting For A Fast Torrent Search Engine

Jul 26, 2008

I want to host a torrent search engine (not a torrent site with actual torrents hosted, only a search engine).

It has to be really fast. I have a few questions?

What hosting is required for this site to be lightning fast? Most of it is due to the coding of the site but how much of it is reliant of the server? Any suggestions?

Also, is it better to start small and upgrade as more visitors come? Or is it just better to get a big server?

How Many Resources For A Search Engine

I am thinking about creating my own search engine and I was wondering what some basic server hardware would be required to do this (e.g., RAM, hard drives, memory, storage space). Would I have to run a minimum of 1TB on storage and 4 to 6GB of ram to do it right?

Search Engine-friendly URLs On Server API: CGI

One of the sites I have, is placed on a non-Apache server (the others are). Phpinfo() gives this:

I'd like to make search engine-friendly URLs for all my sites. All of them will do fine with mod_rewrite, but that's not possible on this server, it seems. Anybody here knows how I can do this for this particular server?

Torrent Hosting

Feb 18, 2009

I work in torrent marketing niche (legit and fully legal marketing) and I need a solution that will allow me to host about 3000 torrents at a time. I don't know how to solve this so I'm looking for help from someone who knows a bit about hosting and torrents. Please help me to find the best solution for my needs. I would prefer hosting it on couple smaller vps servers than on one dedicated. I used to host it on windows server, but utorrent crashes with more than 600 torrents. I think I would add no more than 300 torrents per vps.

VPS, Windows, Torrent Hosting And Umetered Bandwidth?

Jul 17, 2007

I've been looking for a VPS with windows, ability for torrents and unmetered bandwidth. I've tried leaseweb and I did not like their service one bit for support. i did not use their 10mb unmetered though. I then tried FDC and they were ok, but now I'm looking for something else that is more like FDC then anything. With FDC I was running windows 2003, unmetered bandwidth and was doing some torrents a bit. Not music or movies though, i hate 99.9% of the music out and don't bother with movies or software or any of that junk. my speed was fine at up to 100mb literally. downloading from the net to my FDC server would go as much as 80mb or so, peaking a bit faster for like half a second. Anyhow, the speed their was fine.

So I'm just looking for something else is all. The server I was on was a VDS and cost was for me $79. I had 512mb ram and 100gb drive space.

What Kind Of Load Does Image Hosting Put On A Server

Jun 22, 2009

I have a dedicated that is oversized for the task (Q6600, 8gig RAM, Sata Raid-10 array), which is running a medium/small vBulletin site.

I have thought about providing free image hosting for the members, so I could have 100-300 people hosting sig images and other graphics on the server, which they in turn would link into forums and other places which could create quite a few requests for those graphics.

Is there anyway to quantify what type of load this static, image hosting would create?

The server currently is typically around .05 to .1 server load with nearly flatlined CPU's.

Shared Hosting And Search Engines

Apr 29, 2008

I have heard that using shared hosting accounts is risky for search engine rankings because if one site on the server breaks the rules then the whole server can be penalized. Is there a cheap type of hosting package that provides the same functionality and does not share the same IP with hundreds of other sites?

How Does Google App Engine Compare To Web Hosting Plans?

Apr 2, 2009

Google App Engine offers free quotas of 1 GB outbound traffic per day and 6.5 CPU-hours (based on a 1.2 GHz Intel x86 processor) per day.

How do those free quotas compare to web hosting plans? For example, the traffic supported by the free quotas -- is that
generally higher or less than the traffic supported by a typical $5/mo shared hosting account?

Above the free quotas, Google charges $0.12 per GB outgoing traffic, $0.10 per GB incoming traffic, $0.10 per CPU-hour, $0.15 per GB storage per month.

How do those numbers translate to normal web hosting plans? For example, the traffic that can be supported by a $40/mo VPS plan and $200/mo dedicated server plan, what would they cost on Google App Engine?

I know it depends on a lot of factors, but if anyone has any ballpark estimates or experiences they're willing to share I'd really appreciate it.

I'm trying to decide between App Engine and standard web hosting for a DB-backed Python site. The site will start small, but if the traffic grows I want to see which would be a better option long term.

Fast Hosting Worldwide?

Dec 27, 2008

I need to provide an 8gb file download (split into 1gb parts) that will be downloaded by 80+ people worldwide, simultaneously. I'm talking for example, they will be each downloading at 1.2megabytes per second each (this is the average speed of their home connections), simultaneously.
What are the specs or things I should be looking out for in a website hosting provider?
One service I'm looking at is advertised as 0.5Mbps in bandwidth and 100Mbps in transit, for £40 a month. The service I'm looking at is sensical.net's colo business service (http://www.sensical.net/). What does this mean and is it fast enough? What is the difference between these two figures - 0.5Mbps bandwidth and 100Mbps transit?

Surpass Hosting - Are They Fast

I'm in the process of switching my host provider and Im leaning towards Surpass Hosting.

I've already contacted them for a few question and their support seems expectational as they respond my tickets thoroughly in less then 20 minutes.

Just a few questions to those that do use surpass or have used them. How fast are their servers for PHP like Wordpress and Invision Power Board and are are your sites stable (always fast, or are they slow at times and then fast) with them.

Fast, Reliable File Hosting

Nov 4, 2009

I have a VPS account now and I host a setup.exe file on my site, but about 10% of all downloads are incomplete and result in a corrupt setup file. I am guessing that maybe it's because too many people are trying to download the file at the same time? Whatever the reason, I need more reliable file hosting. Can anyone suggest a place to host just my files, which will provide speedy, reliable downloads? I'll still keep the VPS for my site, but need to put the files elsewhere. I don't want any free, ad supported sites, or ones that require the user to visit another site first.

SoftSysHosting.com Rocks - Excellent Support - Reliable Hosting - Fast Loading

Jun 15, 2009

If you need a hosting provider, reliable with logical prices and fantastic support then you should consider SoftSysHosting.com

I'm developing web sites since 1995 and through all these years I have changed many hosting companies always looking the best for my clients. BUT what are the basic 2 critical factors for a website?

1) Reliability -stability - fast loading

2) Excellent support staff.

SoftSystHosting.com has also logical prices for Windows2008 hosting needs.

Whenever I needed to open a new ticket during the process of domain transfer I always was getting a reply in minutes. Also the support staff is very gentle, experienced and always looking for to satisfy your needs. You need Full Trust for your domain? No problem. Just open a ticket and in 5 minutes you'll have it.

One main reason I left from one of my previous hosting provider was Full Trust. They offered only Medium Trust.

I left also another hosting provider since support system was horrible. I opened a ticket and I wasn't sure when it will be answered. In cases of troubles a complete absense of support may ruin your business. I usally do changes at night or weekend when my clients do not work. What happen if something goes wrong and there is no one at the other side of support to help you? I have faced such situations that the 24x7 support was 8x5.

So if you want to be free from anxiety and have reliable hosting with a fanatical support team, then I suggest you to join SoftSysHosting.com

SoftSysHosting.com Support rocks.

When I build the torrent with Torrent Software, I have the possibility to add a HTTP as seed. The intention is to use my server as seed of this torrent. However I don't know what I need to change or configure in my server. I searched the internet for info about this, but wasn't able to find any info.

The torrent is an ebook written by me with public released domain rights, so there aren't any legal issues. Basically the problem/inquiry is 100% technical.
