Fast Hosting Outside Of North America?
May 25, 2008
Anyone have any recommendations with a good country to host our web sites which is outside of USA/Canada? We have tried Signapore and Hong Kong and both have had a lot of problems when we get spikes in traffic...

I'm the proprietor of a high-bandwidth site, and obviously, it's important to me to get the cheapest bandwidth possible. I've looked around, and it seems like European web hosts provide cheaper prices than North American hosts.
However, most of my users are in North America. Will a server in Europe be able to deliver the full available bandwidth to users in the US? If not, how much of it should I expect?

I am currently renting a dedicated server in North America with the following specs:
Processor : INTEL Core2Duo E6400
Memory : 2048MB RAM Standard
Bandwidth : 10Mbps Unmetered Bandwidth
Control Panel :PLESK 8.3
I would like something similar, but in the UK (or near by), and closely priced to what I pay now.
For the complete package above, I pay $250/month.
Does anyone know of a great service across the ocean which has similar services, for a great price? I don't need the full 10mbit line, a 5mbit line would suit my needs. I would prefer Plesk, and at least 2048MB of ram. The processor should be comparative.
My website is 100% Vbulletin, and is quite large in size (hence the server requirements).

I'm planning to host about 10 websites, most of them will be developed on Dotnetnuke (latest version). The most important issue is the speed of the web sites. The pages need to be opened fast. The target audience is located in Istanbul/Turkey, therefore I think the EU-based companies will be better for my requirements.

I need to provide an 8gb file download (split into 1gb parts) that will be downloaded by 80+ people worldwide, simultaneously. I'm talking for example, they will be each downloading at 1.2megabytes per second each (this is the average speed of their home connections), simultaneously.
What are the specs or things I should be looking out for in a website hosting provider?
One service I'm looking at is advertised as 0.5Mbps in bandwidth and 100Mbps in transit, for £40 a month. The service I'm looking at is sensical.net's colo business service (http://www.sensical.net/). What does this mean and is it fast enough? What is the difference between these two figures - 0.5Mbps bandwidth and 100Mbps transit?

I'm in the process of switching my host provider and Im leaning towards Surpass Hosting.
I've already contacted them for a few question and their support seems expectational as they respond my tickets thoroughly in less then 20 minutes.
Just a few questions to those that do use surpass or have used them. How fast are their servers for PHP like Wordpress and Invision Power Board and are are your sites stable (always fast, or are they slow at times and then fast) with them.

I have a VPS account now and I host a setup.exe file on my site, but about 10% of all downloads are incomplete and result in a corrupt setup file. I am guessing that maybe it's because too many people are trying to download the file at the same time? Whatever the reason, I need more reliable file hosting. Can anyone suggest a place to host just my files, which will provide speedy, reliable downloads? I'll still keep the VPS for my site, but need to put the files elsewhere. I don't want any free, ad supported sites, or ones that require the user to visit another site first.

Am new and have done the usual forum search but did not find what i (specifially) want.
Looking for a good (shared) hosting company with the ability to run both ASP.NET and PHP sites (if possible).
The hosting should be fast and accessible in US, Europe and China.
Thus far, i have been able to find a few shared hosting companies with a bit of speed, but they will not provide both ASP.NET and PHP
Is my combination hard to find and will i need to just seperate and find 2 hosting companies, one for .NET and one for PHP?

I want to host a torrent search engine (not a torrent site with actual torrents hosted, only a search engine).
It has to be really fast. I have a few questions?
What hosting is required for this site to be lightning fast? Most of it is due to the coding of the site but how much of it is reliant of the server? Any suggestions?
Also, is it better to start small and upgrade as more visitors come? Or is it just better to get a big server?

If you need a hosting provider, reliable with logical prices and fantastic support then you should consider SoftSysHosting.com
I'm developing web sites since 1995 and through all these years I have changed many hosting companies always looking the best for my clients. BUT what are the basic 2 critical factors for a website?
1) Reliability -stability - fast loading
2) Excellent support staff.
SoftSystHosting.com has also logical prices for Windows2008 hosting needs.
Whenever I needed to open a new ticket during the process of domain transfer I always was getting a reply in minutes. Also the support staff is very gentle, experienced and always looking for to satisfy your needs. You need Full Trust for your domain? No problem. Just open a ticket and in 5 minutes you'll have it.
One main reason I left from one of my previous hosting provider was Full Trust. They offered only Medium Trust.
I left also another hosting provider since support system was horrible. I opened a ticket and I wasn't sure when it will be answered. In cases of troubles a complete absense of support may ruin your business. I usally do changes at night or weekend when my clients do not work. What happen if something goes wrong and there is no one at the other side of support to help you? I have faced such situations that the 24x7 support was 8x5.
So if you want to be free from anxiety and have reliable hosting with a fanatical support team, then I suggest you to join SoftSysHosting.com
SoftSysHosting.com Support rocks.

Most of my traffic is in South America (argentina). I need a VPS with lots of cheap (500GB-700GB) bandwidth available, plus maybe 1-2GB of RAM. Having a VPS as close to Argentina as possible might work well.
I think maybe VPS from Texas might work?

I'm one of the Layeredtech "future refugees" looking for a new hosting. I have a AMD Athlon 3000+ 1GB RAM + 2 160GB HDD's and last week I started looking at LT specials to upgrade our server (1 website only, huge traffic). I'm glad that I got the "Price Hike" increase before :-)
After looking at all the posts in the forum about unmanaged providers I really like the prices and reputation of Hivelocity, but I'm not so sure about the speed of their network.
The website is in Spanish (I'm from Spain), and we got 50% of our visitors from Spain, 45% from South America and the rest from all over the world. I tried their download tests and they were slower than LT (from Spain), with the pings 20/30% higher and the traceroute has like 5 more hops.
Any experiences from European/South American customers of Hivelocity?

Is there a webhost fast enough for providing large files (2.5GB +, going up to 10GB + larger) on my website to users worldwide?
At the moment my website is hosted in the UK and it seems to deliver download speeds of around 650kbps if only one person is downloading at a time. I have tried other web hosts, and their download speeds are never advertised, but have turned out to be even less in practise (e.g. 150kbps)
As I'm hosting large files (e.g. 1GB - 2.5GB - 8.5GB or more) on my website, I need something with unlimited speed. i.e. so that the download speed is limited only by the end user's connection.
Is there anything like this out there? I realise the files are very large in size, but I'd rather keep the process electronic than mail out hundreds of DVDs all the time.
