Fast, Reliable File Hosting
I have a VPS account now and I host a setup.exe file on my site, but about 10% of all downloads are incomplete and result in a corrupt setup file. I am guessing that maybe it's because too many people are trying to download the file at the same time? Whatever the reason, I need more reliable file hosting. Can anyone suggest a place to host just my files, which will provide speedy, reliable downloads? I'll still keep the VPS for my site, but need to put the files elsewhere. I don't want any free, ad supported sites, or ones that require the user to visit another site first.

Long story short, my client has had issues with the last couple of hosts. We now need a new reliable yet affordable windows host urgently. Great Reliable Shared Hosting Provider
I found out about downtownhost on here and signed up and am currently using them for one of my websites which is working out great. But I'm looking for another one as well (I don't like to host all my sites with one company). I looked at iweb but there own site was loading slowly for me so that was discouraging. Chatted with hostmysite and they made me wait forever and couldn't answer simple questions so that was scary. I currently have 2 sites already with hostgator which has worked out well, but like I said don't want to put all my sites on one host. Looking to get my sites off of dreamhost which I recently (last 6 months) have been having website loading time problems. My sites load SLOW So my once "dream" provider has turned into a nightmare. I also host with lunarpages (oy vey) my site goes down weekly and they don't have phone support on weekends.

Are There Any Stable Cloud Hosting Options To Replace Dedicated Server?
I've got a dedicated server through Liquid Web. I can't say enough about how great the reliability and service has been since I switched over to them a number of months ago. Nevertheless, with the advent of cloud hosting, I'm intrigued by the idea of paying for what I actually use on a server rather than having way more capacity than I need 90% of the day. I've looked around here and there's a bit of talk about it but it doesn't seem like folks are scrambling into it and it also appears that the offereings are still relatively immature. I really don't have the time to devote to tweaking, etc or figuring out something really complicated. I'll stick to my dedicated server if it means tons of extra work or potential downtime or massive frustration but I wanted to get some feedback from the community about whether or not there are some stable cloud hosting options that are emerging that might be worth considering.

Shared Host , Reliable Mysql
I know there are a million "looking for cheap shared hosting" threads. Hopefully my particular values/interests justify a new one. I'm a (mostly PHP/MySQL/CMS) web developer, using Dreamhost for years (perhaps DH was better back then) to host staging/development sites for clients (once I've developed a client site, I usually make them get their own host somewhere more reliable), as well as for low-traffic sites, transferring files, etc. What I don't like about Dreamhost: a) SLOW. my guess is this is 25% web server overselling, and 75% MySQL server overselling. My simple sites are tolerably slow - including lightweight php/mysql sites (textpattern CMS, etc.) - BUT my Drupal and Silverstripe and ZenCart experiments are intollerable (5+ second page loads). b) funny ownership policies - I can't (easily) create a client FTP user that is restricted to one of my subfolders. Each user = exclusive file/folder ownership. c) not much else. I seem to get a-little-too-frequent DNS problems/outages, and used to get a-little-too-frequent server lock-ups... but I don't expect perfection from a cheap host. And of course I send my mail through google apps, I wouldn't trust a cheap host with my mail. What I like about Dreamhost: a) the control panel functionality. Yes, it's ugly, but god it does a lot of nice stuff that cPanel doesn't (and frankly, cPanel is usually ugly too). b) the usual: a very low price for unlimited domains, unlimited mySQL, and huge storage. So, who is my next low-cost host? a) Interested in MySQL performance/protection - perhaps hosts that put MySQL [and mail] on separate servers, like DH, but don't overload them!?! Do I need to worry about this? b) I wouldn't mind moving to a reseller account c) I'd like a progressive control panel; I have clients on medialayer - who use directadmin (nice) - but their pricing structure is a bit tight on domains/db/storage. [As an aside, medialayer provides excellent shared hosting performance/value/support, if you don't need a lot of domains/db/storage] d) I'd like to stay in the $10-20ish a month range

Reliable Shared Host Plan With PHP 5.2.+ With PDO Drivers & MySql 5.+
I switched to HostGator because they had PDO drivers enabled on shared hosting plans with PHP 5 & MySql 5. The problem is that every time they update PHP (4 times in 8 months now) they don’t include PDO in the build and its takes day to get past level 1 support and get it fixed. So I’m looking for a “Reliable” host. I had a hard time when I switched to HG finding shared hosting plans with PDO enabled.

Fast Hosting Worldwide?
I need to provide an 8gb file download (split into 1gb parts) that will be downloaded by 80+ people worldwide, simultaneously. I'm talking for example, they will be each downloading at 1.2megabytes per second each (this is the average speed of their home connections), simultaneously. What are the specs or things I should be looking out for in a website hosting provider? One service I'm looking at is advertised as 0.5Mbps in bandwidth and 100Mbps in transit, for £40 a month. The service I'm looking at is sensical.net's colo business service (http://www.sensical.net/). What does this mean and is it fast enough? What is the difference between these two figures - 0.5Mbps bandwidth and 100Mbps transit?

Surpass Hosting - Are They Fast

Reliable VPS Hosting
I've been using a Ubiquity VPS for a bit over a year now, and have been generally satisfied, for two reasons: 1) The performance has been excellent. It's still pretty fast considering how much we're using it, and I was able to record just over 200 days uptime. 2) The support seems to be competent and no-BS. Nothing ticks me off more than being lied to, or being told that something that is clearly beyond my control is my fault. While there have been various teething problems (I signed up just before they did a big infrastructure upgrade, and then the whole "someone pulled the plug on the entire company thing". We're now looking to procure some additional virtual boxes. Not out of any slight to them (primarily to do with SEO, but also a matter of eggs and baskets), we'd like to get them from different firms. I can generally handle the technical stuff running on the VPS myself, so in terms of ongoing support (once the basic "provision everything, get forward and reverse DNS for the server's IP set up" is done), all I really need is a company that will keep the lights on, the machine plugged into the network, and replace hardware when it fails promptly-- in short, self-managed VPS. Each one would likely host only a single site, but the sites are apt to be fairly database-intensive. Linux-based. So what I was thinking, to start with, would be: * 512M memory * 20G disc * 500G transfer or higher. I'd honestly prefer a bit more memory (the current VPS, hosting probably 75 domains of minor traffic, is a 1Gb setup, and will occasionally breach the red line; I've kept it reined in to 20 simultaneous Apache processes to keep memory use low). I shopped around a bit, and was able to find a variety of providers offering packages of this size (and frequently larger-- 768M/40G/600G seemed a common size) at about $50-60 per montt. I'm leaning towards a VPS primarily because of the assumption that the low end fully-dedicated boxes are relatively poor spec-- low permanent capacity (compared to the burst capacity I could get on a decent VPS), and most importantly, no redundant drive subsystem. Data loss is my big fear. That, and really weak performance. But of course, nobody is going to tell you "Your VPS is on a Duron 750 shared equally between 32 VPSes", "We have RAID. When there's a roach in the lunch room, we spray it." or "We really suck at support and end up taking it out on our customers." So who can be trusted in those departments? I'd prefer someone with no-gimmick pricing, because we're researching today but may not provision immediately.

Reliable .NET Hosting
Are there any webhost, besides discountASP.net that offers .NET hosting, and are actively updating their software, SDKs whenever Microsoft releases something new? I'm looking for a host that offers .NET 2.0, MS SQL 2005, MS AJAX(Atlas) to name a few. I like what discountASP offers, but it's a bit pricey as I have to pay $10/month for the basic plan, and another $10/month for MS SQL. Somewhere between $10-$15/month would be good.

I am currently with Yahoo web hosting, but I will move to another company because Yahoo does not support PHP 5. Reliable Hosting For A Vbulletin Forum
I am the owner of the vbulletin forum. The forum is young but it is growing rapidly. It has 11000 posts, 800 members and about 30 users online. I use many mods which are server intensive. I was on a semi-dedicated hosting (Westnic), which I shared with my friend to reduce the costs. Now I feel I should move on, because this package is becoming too small for both of us. I wanted to upgrade my hosting package to a bigger one, but now when I have read so many horrible stories about this host, I really don't want to stay with Westnic. So I am looking for a reliable host for my forum. I am still now sure whether I need a semi-dedicated, VPS or a dedicated server. Reliable ASP .NET Hosting
We currently have our sites hosted with 1&1 but after a nightmare of intermittent downtime, poor service and complex setup requirements for basic ASP .NET sites we have given up! We want to leave the domain registrations with 1&1 as they do that side of things well and I don’t want the issues of moving domains to another provider. But what we need is a fast reliable host that will allow us to leave our domains with 1&1 and will host our websites, their subdomains (and hopefully emails if possible) with the domains still registered at 1&1. Also the things we need to resolve from 1&1 are: 1 - using asp or aspx custom error404 pages for all webpages, we can do this for aspx sites though our web.config but all other extensions go to a single .html page (not very dynamic) 2 - different error 404 pages per domain 3 - ability to do extension-less url rewriting in ASPX - we could not do this with 1&1 due to the inability to change IIS settings for the application to forward all requests to the asp .net application 4 - different IIS applications for each domain without requiring a folder in the url, 1&1 require us to move the domains into folders for this to work but moving our domain to a sub folder therefore loosing links to pages in google etc 5 - great technical service and attention to problems Also all of our customers are in the UK, is there any latency or issues with slow loading using say a US based host?

Quality, Reliable Hosting For Up To $10 A Month
I am about to open a third web site and am looking for a good place to host it. My two existing sites are currently with a local (Croatian) The Planet reseller which has quite good support (and are partly sponsoring me), but tend to be a bit too weak when it comes to high load peaks (when sites get dugg mainly). So for a third site I am considering something else. Having read some discussions I can conclude that these days the actual amount of space and bandwidth isn't such a good measure of actual quality and these numbers are mainly used for marketing. I also learned that best web hosting depends on specific needs and desires. So here is what I want and I hope you can make some good suggestions. I want a reliable, high uptime, fast web hosting with great customer support (24/7, quick, knowledgeable and friendly) which wont impose bad mysql limits and will not crash when slashdotted or dugg. It would be good if it would use some sort of a reliability boosting system like clustering (although I guess it doesn't have to be clustering necessarily). I also need it to have at least 2GB of web space and more than 100GB of monthly bandwidth but with an option of extending this if need arises *without downtime*. If it would anyhow be possible for it to be Free Open Source Software friendly, possibly offering a webmin control panel in addition to or instead of cpanel. Of course, it has to run on GNU/Linux. I don't need *anything* Microsoft related on it. It needs to have a good track record. Please don't advertise your own hosting companies here. I'd like to hear recommendations from real people with real experience. My budget is up to $10 a month or $120 a year. I believe I should be able to get roughly the above with a good host for that price these days. It's a competitive market. Someone honest has got to fit the bill.

Inexpensive Reliable File Storage Hosting
Just got a letter from InMotion. They don't like I uploaded my backup files to them, which makes their hosting benefits totally pointless to me and I will be moving to some other cheaper hosting since I basically only use email. So I need some place to store my backups... I need only about 5 Gb, and I don't care about bandwidth, as I don't plan to download them unless all my HDDs will burn or get stolen or something so I don't need bandwidth. And it should be no more than few bucks/mo.

I am planning to create a website for my business. Its a bulk exports business and there will be very few visitors, less than 1000 a month. Also space needed should also not exceed 100 mb as I will only have some html information pages and a few pictures of my products. However, the webhost should be reliable and have an easy to use interface as I am a beginner in this field (I hear cPanel is good). Private, Reliable And Cheap Hosting And Whois
I'm about to launch a viral project that has realy good potential to strike it big, but would like to clear a few things first. I would not like to have it associated with my name - not that it anything illegal, but in real life I'm doing something completely different and on the record would like to keep it that way. So that probably means keeping the whois private - but I have another question as well. Suppose the project strikes it big - would a diggin journalist be able to still get my name/data from a hosting company too? Is there a good hosting company with an all-inclusive service that you could recommend (that would get me a private hosting plan + a private domain name/whois)? And that would be reasonably priced of course + more importanty reliable (note have problems if/when there is a massive traffic surge to my site at one point in time) Would probably take a shared hosting plan - need only PHP and imagemagick to start with. Reliable Dollar Hosting With Cpanel And Paypal Billing
I am on a very fixed budget, and I'm looking for a reliable host I can host my domain on. I am familar with cpanel already, I was once a VPS owner, until I could no longer afford a VPS after I lost my job so I'm on the hunt for $1 hosting that I can pay for once a year using paypal so I don't have to risk loosing my site again. I had a $25/mo VPS with a very nice hosting provider, but could not afford to keep the host, so 2 days late on my bill, and they deleted my VPS just like that! I lost everything! 15 years of work down the drain in 2 seconds! oh I was so pissed!! I mean, yeah I should have had a local backup, but the problem was, my Computer was in the shop, and the guy who repaired my computer formatted my backup drive, which I was pissed about that too. Can you believe it? lost a job, and 15 years of programming and design work down the drain in 2 seconds. Even if that host offered me a FREE VPS for life, I still wouldn't accept it. I mean that was rediculus that they couldn't restore even an old backup for me. better then no site at all, ya know? For awhile after that, I thought about giving up on having my own website, but then I thought, well I need a presence, a wordpress blog or something, so I started looking around. I found a few places that offered $1 hosting, which didn't seem like too bad of an idea, I could probably swing $10 once a year. There was one host that even had a $5/yr promo running, which sounded really cool, because it had Fantasico and RVSkin too, which was a really good deal for all that, but I diddn't know anything about the host, not much information on the site, so decided to not to sign up and ask you guys first. the host was manadospace.com Does anyone know if their reliable or not? otherwise can you guys recommend a host? I have no idea. Knownhost used to have $1 hosting, but not anymoore it looks like. my X has always had good luck with them over the years. any ideas for a reliable host? I mean, even when I had a VPS, I was lucky to use 1GB/month bandwidth, most of the time I was lucky to use 450mb/mo bandwidth. Reliable Hosting And An Honest Registrar -Outside- Of The United States
I am pretty tired of the constant interference and harassment from competitors that is almost encouraged by rediculous US laws. I would love to find reliable hosting and a honest registrar outside of the United States/Canada/EU. Reliable + Large + Good Network Hosting Company That Does Colo
I have a 1u server that I'm looking to colo. I looked around the forums but I can't seem to find exactly what I need. I'd prefer if the hosting company was large, owned its own datacenter (as opposed to leasing), offered proactive (automated) monitoring services, remote reboot, and a superb network with little or no downtime. I like liquidweb but it looks like they only have 500gb / month up and down or a dedicated line capped at 10mbps line. I need something in between, around 1000GB / month up and down with 100mbps port. Support doesn't really matter, nor does price.

Reliable Low Cost WHM & CPanel Hosting Available
I am having really bad experiences with my current host. I guess I've overlook "quantity" over "quality". I got my current hosting account (almost 3 months now) from ebay...I guess that sums up pretty much everything. Actually I knew it was a newly startup company, but they offer WHM as well (which a function I really want for other reasons) for a really low price of one year with unlimited everything. I know.....I know.....there is no such thing, but I've figure I would not reach their limits anytime soon. So I went for it.....test drive I would rather put it. Let's make the long story short: * 2 weeks after account setup, server down for 7 days (because their servers got hacked). * Received email, everything was lost and "all accounts will be move to their new SUPER FAST servers (yes indeed, I've to say !) in the next couple of days". * Waited another 4 days, nothing. Summited a support ticket; their response was all their clients account was already moved to the new servers with an new ip which I did not get notified. * Fine, re-setup everything and.....cross my fingers! * Everything went well for...almost a month and half. (Well...other then the company was brought by another company ) Other then that, server will be down 10, 20 mins. at a time here & there....... * Until yesterday.....I thought it was like the usual 10, 20 mins., but it was more than half an hour, 1 hour, 2 hours, 3 hours,.....I went to check on "their" web site, no longer accessible. Then I know it's time for me to look for a new host. Anyway, sorry for the long post. I think I should rather change the title to "Really bad hosting experience from....." (Rather not to mention who, but if anybody care to know...) Well, any offers from any web host in here? Yes, THIS is one of my site. Let me know if / when it is working! Post the time if possible.

Windows 2003 IIS6 PHP 5.0.3 and PHP 5.2.1 running with the ISAPI dll MySQL 5.1.11 I kind of have 2 problems, the first being the one in the thread title and the second is while running any version of php my main site experiences slowdowns and hangs. For some reason whenever I try to install a new version of PHP I have major problems. I have tried several times when new versions come out. I just recently tried the newest, 5.2.1, which I want to try and use, I think there are performance improvements for IIS and windows platform in the new 5.x versions? Anyway I can install 5.2.1 and get it running, and my sites load, but soon after my main site starts to hang, stops loading or loads extremely slow. I can't figure it out. I even tried using the exact same PHP.ini settings from my old working php install. So everytime I am forced to go back to the latest version that I know works with my server/sites, 5.0.3 [url] If I restart IIS the pages start loading fast again right after, even recycling the worker process that the site uses usualy makes the pages load normal again. I tried setting the worker process to recycle every 60min and to use 2 web gardens. These changes havn't really had any affect for better or worse. Downgrading back to PHP 5.0.3 seems to run a bit more stable, but even with this version I get these slowdowns now. I have been running my site(s) on this server for 3 years now and most of the time they have ran stable. -------------------------------------------------------- I was sleeping this morning and recieved a text-message saying the site wasn't loading. So I wake up and the site indeed was pretty much not loading at all. I look at permon that I left running to see this: [url] I give IIS a restart, which you can see above, then the levels go back to normal, here is a screen shot a couple minites later to what the "Current Connections" graph usualy looks like when the site loads fine. [url] During this slowdown the CPU usage was not maxing out, was maybe averaging 60% and ram was 50%. I am getting a 2nd server soon to off-load the MySQL to it and have it dedicated for that. But i don't think that will help this current issue. Here is the system resources when the site is loading fine: [url] I have around 40 or so other sites hosted on IIS and my main site "canadaka.net" which is purple on the top graph, is the only one that hangs or slowsdown. When this slowdown happens to this site, all the other sites on IIS, which are on a seperate worker process, continue to load fine. I can't figure out why these slowdowns are happening.

Unlimited Domains With Shared Hosting Vs. Reseller Hosting
This question gets asked a lot in our Helpdesk and I figured I would post our knowledgebase article here to help anyone else wondering the Pros and Cons of Unlimited Domain Shared Hosting vs. Reseller Hosting. If anyone has anything else to add, I appreciate any feedback on how we can improve our KB article. ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Given the present state of shared hosting, many clients may ask "Why would I need a Reseller account if I can host unlimited Addon and Parked domains within a single shared hosting account?". There is certainly enough Disk Space and Bandwidth provided in many of today's hosting packages, so why bother to purchase a Reseller account? Many don't realize the drawbacks of hosting large numbers of domains within a single hosting account until they've already packed tens of them onto a single package. So how do you know whether a Reseller account or Shared Hosting account is right for you? The answer is in how you plan to provide access to others and how "mission-critical" the sites are. You should consider the following factors when deciding on hosting a large number of domains: 1. Who will be managing these sites? 2. How important is site security between sites? 3. Will these domains need dedicated SSLs? 4. How resource intensive will these sites be (RAM, CPU, MySQL)? In a nutshell, Reseller plans are for those who wish to host websites for other sub-clients and a shared hosting package is for a single individual managing multiple personal domains. We'll go over the 4 points above in greater detail. 1. Who will be managing these site? If you personally own multiple domains and wish to host them within the same hosting space, you can easily do so with an Addon or Parked domain. An addon domain will allow you to host a new domain within a subdirectory of your hosting space. A parked domain will allow you to have multiple domain names point to the same content. Since addon domains reside within the same user space as your main domain, you can manage all of your domains with a single login. You can see the problem if you want to provide another user with access. Since all accounts are managed with a single set of login credentials, if you give another user access to their addon domain you are also giving them access to your main domain. If you have vital information stored on your main domain and you are hosting another domain as an addon domain for someone else, you cannot provide them access to their hosting without compromising the integrity of your main domain. When hosting sites as a Reseller, your clients in turn will want access to their account and will want exclusive rights to their disk space and server resources. With a Reseller account, each sub-account you create gets its own username, password, and isolated user space on the server. Individual clients of yours have access to their user space and their user space alone. In addition to the isolation with regards to access concerns, each account also gets their own cPanel access. All of the same great features that you use to manage your sites can also be given to your clients. Next time client Y wants to add an email account, you don't have to do it for them for fear of giving them access to your cPanel, you can simply give them their login details and they can manage their own email accounts. 2. How important is site security between sites? This is along the same lines as point 1. This is not necessarily related to who you are hosting for, but what content you are hosting. Imagine that you are a webmaster and you are hosting your own personal site-in-a-box community forums (such as PHPBB or vBulliten) on your main domain and a company website for a paying client on an addon domain. It is not uncommon for popular scripts to have security flaws in older versions. Script authors will often update security flaws in later versions of their software. For this reason, it is very important to keep scripts up to date on your site. But let's assume you forget to update your scripts for a couple of months and an unscrupulous individual takes advantage of a well known security hole. Using this exploit, they gain access to your forums and any subdirectories. Since you are hosting another domain as an addon, they now have access to this domain's content as well. A site defacement on this company's site may not bode well for you when they are considering you for web master services in the future. If these two domains had been separate into two individual users (i.e. two subaccounts created through a Reseller), their content would've been inherently isolated server side by Linux's user management. Sure, your forums still would've been affected by the security hole, but the break-in would've been isolated to your site alone. Going back to our example, let's say that instead of a corporate website as an addon domain you are hosting an image gallery site for all of your cats. In this case, it may not be a big deal if a compromise in your main domain spreads to your addon domain. After all, they are both owned by you and you're only losing some time and effort to restore these sites from your local backups (which I'm sure you've actively maintained ). But then again, you are losing time and time is money. If these sites had been separated into individual users, again, you'd only have to restore one site's content. The idea here is isolation. Reseller plans provide you with the peace of mind to know that if one of your users doesn't keep up with their site's content as actively as they should, their actions won't negatively impact the content hosted on other domains. If you and those you host in your addons are diligent webmasters, maybe this point won't have much bearing on your decision. Only you can say for sure. 3. Will these domains need SSLs? As of this writing, SSL certificates must have a dedicated IP address to be installed. If you are hosting multiple domains on the same shared hosting package, you can still install an SSL (or purchase a dedicated IP address and install one) but you are limited to exactly one SSL on your account. If you are hosting multiple domains on the same package (and consequently the same IP), you must choose which domains gets to have the dedicated SSL. Sub accounts of Resellers can each be placed onto separate IP addresses and, as a result, can each have their own dedicated SSL installed. Of course, both shared accounts and Resellers' sub accounts can use the server's shared SSL free of charge. However, some clients prefer to see their domain in the URL bar when they visit https. 4. How resource intensive will these sites be (RAM, CPU, MySQL)? We've already established that disk space and bandwidth will be no problem. But what about CPU, RAM, and MySQL resources? It's important to be aware of the resource needs of your website. As administrators, we have to make sure all users "play nice" on the server. We can't have user X eating all of the CPU cycles computing pi to the trillionth decimal place while you are trying to serve web pages to your loyal visitors. We have to monitor the actions of all of our users and in the event someone is stepping beyond the bounds of acceptable resource consumption, we have to take action. In most cases, this entails disabling the abusive script, but in extreme cases we have to suspend the abusive user account to prevent other domains from encountering performance degradation on their sites. If you are hosting 100 domains as addon domains, all serving nothing but static HTML pages, maybe you will stay off the radar. But considering most sites are more complicated than static HTML, you may want to be aware of how many sites you host as addons and what content they serve. If you're hosting the latest and greatest Joomla modules, with up to date news feeds, integrated forums modules, polls, blog posts, etc your site can certainly require a degree of CPU to serve your pages. Now imagine you have 5 or 10 of these sites all hosted as addon domains. The resources these sites need to generate their content can quickly add up and before you know it you've got a friendly email from Acenet, Inc. in your inbox wondering why your user is consuming 2 of the 8 CPU cores on the server. That may be an exaggeration, but you get the idea. In the event your resource usage becomes so excessive that we have to suspend your user, now all of your sites are down instead of whichever one may be the direct cause of the spike in CPU, RAM, or MySQL consumption. If each of these had been separate Reseller accounts, the offending account could've been suspended temporarily while we work through the cause, leaving the rest of your domains live and kicking. The conclusion here is that you need to be aware of the needs of your sites in a general sense. Hosting unlimited domains within a shared hosting space is certainly a nice feature. For those webmasters who have multiple presences on the web, it's very convenient to be able to manage all of their personal domains from a single control panel. For those entrepreneurs who are hosting multiple domains for other individuals, the features and security associated with a Reseller plan and the inherent isolation of Linux users is a must have. ----------------------------------------------------------------------

Difference Between VPS And Say Shared Hosting Or Dedicated Hosting
I'm new to the VPS scene, so could someone tell me the difference between VPS and say shared hosting or dedicated hosting? Actually I really like to know what a Virtual Private Server actually is.. I know shared hosting is typically a single account on a server with several hundred other accounts which is used primarily for the sole purpose of hosting websites, and I know that dedicated hosting is functionally the same as colo except that you rent the server, instead of having your own purchased server plugged into some network. So what is VPS?

Windows VPS To Run ASP.NET 2.0 App: Managed And Must Be Stable
I need a Windows VPS to run ASP.NET 2.0 applications because my current provider is having some issues that keep my VPS down. As i am new to Windows hosting so i need a managed plan. Another thing is that it must be stable. I usually have VPSes with Knownhost and they are really stable ( just wish they offer windows vps ). I need something like them ( uptime > 99,99% ). What options do i have?

Noob - Shared Hosting VS. Dedicated Hosting
I am developing a website for a client of mine (the client is a close friend and know's that he is getting a newbie). This site will be larger (project wise) than anything that I have ever done (everything I have done in the past has been FrontPage). We will be using several third party applications that need to run on the server as well as our own custom developed applications. We do not yet know how much access to the server's deeper structures we will need for all of the applications that we want loaded on our server to run. Things we have in mind: oscommerce, mysql, php5, apache, linux, vbulletin, blogger, phpbb, adserver, ect... Would these things run ok on a shared host and would I have full authority to configure them without needing full access to the server? Or will I need access to the entire server (dedicated server) in order to have full customization capabilities? I guess all I am trying to figure out at this point is will shared hosting for a large project limit our abilities to use 3rd party apps, or do most 3rd party application designers build their stuff to work in a shared hosting environment anyway? If we need to get a dedicated server we will, but if we can get away with shared hosting for a while (especially during development when the site will not be generating revenue) it would be nice to avoid the price of a dedicated server. Many thanks for your comments, insight, and expertise! Also, if anyone can sight some common scenarios that may require a dedicated server over a shared hosting plan, that may help me to understand what the limitations of a shared hosting plan vs. a deicated or virtual dedicated server are.

Difference Between Using Shared Hosting And Reseller Hosting?
Here is my dilemma, thanks to a thread in these forums I was directed to a hosting website called pc-core.net and I was interested in using them, because it does not appear that they oversell at all. My question is regarding the fact that they have the shared hosting for $12/month with ~5gb of disk space and 50gb of transfer. I then just looked at reseller hosting for the heck of it, and noticed i could get a reseller hosting account with 45gb storage and 450gb of bandwidth for $10/month. Even though I wont be selling hosting, or anything like that, can I use a reseller hosting account like a normal shared hosting account?...just with more space and bandwidth?

Shared Hosting Vs. Dedicated Server Hosting
Do website builders generally go with shared hosting or dedicated server? I mean, if they work on several websites would they get a dedicated server instead of shared? From what I understand through reading shared hosting is basically if you only have one website. So one with multiple websites would go with a dedicated server?
