VPSSell Review - VPSSell Fraud - VPSSell Scam

May 3, 2008

Just wanted to post a quick review on VPSSell.com. This is a 100% horrible company to do business with. We originally chose them to help launch our new GlobalWebX free hosting service, which was supposed to have fully launched by now. They were a new company, but had good prices, and the owner (mdshah) seemed to be active on WHT and cared for his customers. I know what it's like having started several new hosting companies, and I knew that just because a company is new does not mean it is no good.

So, we signed up for a VPS from VPSSell.com. It took a couple of days to setup the server, but once it was up, it ran very well. I had a couple of setup questions for VPSSell.com, and they were very helpful in answering them. All went well, so we purchased a LayeredPanel license, and paid to have LP install it on the server. This took a couple of days, and then we spent some more time painstakingly putting finishing touches on the Website, server configuration, LP configuration, and forum.

On April 29th, I received a notice from VPSSell.com stating the following:

Quote:

VPSSELL Network Maintenance Advisory - Wednesday, April 30th, 2008 -

6AM-10AM EST WINDOW

VPSSELL Network Engineering will be performing maintenance in our

Philadelphia POP during the hours of 6AM and 10PM EST on Wednesday, April

30th, 2008. At this time, VPSSELL Network Engineering will be

performing a significant upgrade to our existing network infrastructure. This

upgrade will involve replacing our core switching equipment, with newer

Cisco™ equipment, and implementing a new network design---allowing for

easier upgrade, higher fault-tolerance,

and extra redundancy. This work is expected to minimally impact on our

client base, however, we like to advise ahead of time when working on

the core of our network. There may be momentary periods of higher than

normal latency while circuits are re-routed, BGP updated/reloaded, or

cabling switched, but there is no overall outage expected.

This maintenance is necessary in order for further growth of the

VPSSELL network, as well as to implement additional redundancy into the

network--including the turn-up of new fiber/transit in the Scranton

facility from XO™ Communications (shortly after this maintenance is

completed).

Regards,
VPSSELL Technologies.

Fair enough. Sounds simple and straightforward. Unfortunately, in the mid-afternoon of April 29th, the server went completely down. I was alerted to this by an associate of mine, who was working on configuring the forum at the time. I told him about the maintenance alert, and assured him it should be back up by the next evening (I just assumed the maintenance had started early).

So, the next day, at 10 PM EST, late that evening, the site was still not back up.

Figuring there may have been a few hitches in getting things running, I waited until the next morning (May 1). At this point, many other VPSSell.com users were posting on WHT and mentioning the same problem. None of their servers had come back up, and they (and I) were now very concerned. We contacted the user mdshah on WHT (again, he owns VPSSell.com, and appears to be the only employee) through private message, and heard nothing back. We (I and other VPSSell.com users) tried again and again to get in touch, and still nothing. Finally, on May 2nd, the user mdshah posted the following in a thread on WHT (but he did not reply to any of his customer's PMs!):

Quote:

Someone abused the server & the server got suspended. The data center said that they had sent us abuse alerts but we never received it. When we asked for mail logs they replied that the mail were bounced & we never got alert & the server got suspended. We tried to convince them for 2 days but we couldn't get the server back. Finally, we have ordered for new servers & will setup all VPS accounts in 24 - 48 hrs.

We are not cheating any customers, you will get your services back. We greatly apologize for the inconvenience caused to you.

Some people has opened paypal disputes claiming SERVICE NOT RECEIVED. This is not good as we always tried to provide you our Best services but someone did mess with our business.

Thanks.

Am I incorrect in seeing a problem where the manager/owner of a service has his service go completely down and does not reply to his own customers (many of whom - like me - are paying $50.95 per month for service!) for 3 days??? The server has been down for over 4 days now, and still no promise of a refund. mdshah is also pretty much refusing to cancel anyone's account. I have threatened to sue (and will follow through with this, to recover the $50.95 as well as other damages related to no access to the server, and to cover court costs).

Basically, I can say that VPSSell.com is a scam - and I really recommend you stay away from them. From now on, I will go with trusted companies - who care about their customers.

Another tidbit: [url] - over 9 hours of downtime in late April.

Hostnine Afiiliates " Scam, Fraud "

Oct 5, 2008

I joined Hostnine.com affiliates program and within the first two months of pushing their services I had made over 2800 dollars in commissions. Whats the problem you might ask. They don’t pay. They don’t answer their phones and when I went to their forum to ask a question about the affiliate program I was banned in 1 min after asking. I tried online help but the guy who works for online help has alot of excuses. I will make sure everyone knows about this rip off scam so people like me can avoid this company altogether. I’m not the only one who was taken. After I couldn’t get him to answer me in repeated emails i googled hostnine scam and many other ways to see if their we others.

Of course their are, someone he owes 6500 dollars and even employees of his company begging to get paid so they can pay their bills. Their were also customers saying how hostning had canceled their accounts after three months for no reason. Even customers who had canceled and were still being charged via credit card. at the last ticket Ben gabler the owner of the company said that the check has been sent out to my country..

But i didn't send any address for my country. So, how did he get it?

[Review] SameerHosting SCAM COMPANY, BREAKS PRIVACY POLICIES

Apr 21, 2009

SameerHosting has been the biggest mistake I have ever made as far as purchasing a service online is concerned. This fake company and more importantly their Owner/Employee/[Insert Job Title Here] Jordan has been the most nasty, hard to work with, and distasteful person I have ever dealt with in my life. I recommend anyone to stay as far away from this company and child as possible. Below are parts of an initial post of mine at DP Forums. There are so many posts, threads, reviews and this kid and his fake company out there that you shouldn't have any trouble finding out everything that has occurred in the past 1-2 months. Thanks for your time:

I had purchased a dedicated server with this guy not realizing he was a 14 year old kid with a bad temper and poor spelling. I paid for the server and he managed to get into an argument with my tech about something (its in that thread). He then got mad at me and took out his anger on me even though I had no idea anything had happened until after the fact. He involved me in something I had no part in.

I have discussed this guy so many times that I am tired of talking about it but will give you a summary of what recently happened. Jordan pmed me through this forum through one of his other (now banned) accounts. This kid knows he will be banned from most forums and makes a handful of accounts to fall back on. He offered to give me a refund if I tell my tech to stop posting about him. Of course I did what he had asked me to do.

I have been honest and given him far to many chances to make right. Well, he ended up telling me I am no longer getting a refund from him because my tech keeps messing with his servers (which I doubt is actually happening). I am being punished again for something that does not have anything to do with my actions. He has now block me from yahoo messenger, msn messenger, his live chat.

Since I posted this on DP I have been in contact with his legal guardians and they have been no help.
Jordan has messaged my Personal Billing details to many of his customers and others along with edited defamatory pictures of someone that is supposed to be myself. That is totally illegal and childish. He did this because I spoke against his scam company and illegal wrongdoings.

If anyone has had bad dealings with this company please post everything that has happened in this thread and also PM me and I can give you the e-mail of the people who take care of him and you can tell them what he has done. He needs to be stopped.

Again, it is very important to post in this thread with information about what he has done to you, the more info the better as these people will possibly listen to me and others.

Fraud Blacklist

May 21, 2008

We've had a couple cases of fraud recently, and have blacklisted the IPs (which turned out to be proxy servers) of the perpetrators. It got me thinking... has anybody put together any kind of IP blacklist for fraudulent orders? Something like a DNSBL for spam, but focused on IPs that fraudsters use?

What Anti-Fraud Measures Do You Use

Sep 30, 2009

Over the past number of years there has been an obvious increase in credit card fraud and identity theft.

Our policies have always tried to stay a step ahead but it seems no matter what is done the occasional fraudster manages to squeeze through, costing us a lot of money. At one some point in early 2009, it got as bad as 60% of the orders we received. It ended up eating a LOT of our time just to go through each order and verify them as best we could.

What methods do you use to fight fraud?

I'll start with some of the things we do.

- Require CVV code on the credit card
- We call the customer's telephone number and verify with them. - Verify the telephone number matches the region of the address they provide
- Require the CC issuing Bank's name and number
- We often require the customer to fax a signed credit card authorization form
- GeoIP matches location of the address in the order

Obviously the big challenge is proving that the person placing the order is the actual owner of the card. I've received the correct CVV, spoken with the customer on the phone number, had the phone number match the region... non-US so I wasn't able to verify their telephone details with the issuing bank. Had the GeoIP match and still found out it was fraud.

On a side note: Am I the only one that feels banks and those issuing credit cards need to take more responsibility for a system that's clearly broken? Even after going through the process above, it can still be fraud with a chargeback issued. In those cases, the company loses the money they made, pay a fee to the payment provider, lost time for Sales Reps and Tech Reps, and of course they lose money on hardware, electricity and bandwidth.

Increase In Fraud Orders

Jul 28, 2009

Anyone else see an influx of fraudulent CC orders with all valid information? Even the IP of these orders matches or comes close to matching the address. What's in common is that email correspondence reveals Asia-based IP addresses and the phone number never checks out.

Could this be due to the recent Network Solutions breach? I've never seen so many fraudulent orders with nearly everything checking out.

Minimize / Checking For Fraud Orders

Oct 24, 2008

what are some of the ways to minimize credit/debit card fraud when someone purchases services over the Internet? I understand the following are commonly used:

-AVS check

-IP of customer vs. Billing Address

-Amount of order

With chargeback fees so high I'd really like to minimize fraud without tossing legit orders.

How To Fight Phishing / Fraud Sites In Free Hosting Server?

Aug 30, 2007

I run a Free web hosting service on my server with XPanel script installed. It has around 47K accounts in all. Recently i started getting mails from e-bay, banks and many other institutions regarding the Phishing sites operating from my server for cheating their customers / members. Though i removed them but i have to do it manually and after getting mails from them.

Now that i dont want any more such site to run from my hosting site, What are the options available for me in order to check all accounts automatically and remove any such site on its own? As there are 47K accounts and 100+ new signups each day, it is not possible to check all accounts manually.

I want any script / addon which can check all possible Phishing / Spamming / Spurious / Fraud sites and intimate me/ delete them upon request. Any person using such services? I need your guidance + support.

Looking for some fast and effective answers from experts here.

DO NOT USE Lunarpages (scam)

Aug 2, 2008

Lunar pages is a scam

DO NOT USE Lunarpages

From Me to Support I noticed that my inodes are set abnormally low to 200,000 we just upgraded to VPS plan per lunars request at we are at 160,000 on second day of operation on new vps server. From Sarwan singh Jassi to siteadmin(ME) When you reach 200,000 inodes you will need to upgrade to dedicated plan However and Email from the sales guy states the following. We do not force upgrades do to inodes, we just increase your inodes as you need them. Server crashes occur all the time about 1-3 times a month. Do not use lunar

They also run the old 90's upgrade scam, they claim your script utilize high resources for php, mysql.

Their claim

CPU%: 3.15
MEM%: 1.70
MySQL: 0.9
Top Process %CPU 50.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 48.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 44.0 /usr/bin/php

After fighting with these people telling them that their server is configured incorrectly because we have load tested each and every script and that these scripts are used on 1000's of sites and the traffic we have does NOT warrent the useage they claim we went a head and upgraded per their recommendation.

So we get a brand new vps plan(see complaint above) and on the VPS server our usages look totally normal with proves they don't know what they are doing.

Directly from Pesky Plesk on the second day of getting our upgrade

CPU%: 0.15
MEM%: 0.19
MySQL: 0.2
Top Process %CPU 17.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 19.0 /usr/bin/php
Top Process %CPU 15.0 /usr/bin/php

SolarVPS = Scam

Aug 14, 2007

I'll tell you my story right now. I got the VPS and they charged me $60. The page didn't even look like a paypal page and I didn't know when I went through the order process that I have been charged. They accepted my payment even though they had the radio button that said first month a dollar. They even didn't have cpanel installed at first! They gave me the email and I had to contact them to install cpanel! They have this stupid contrat thing and they will take you to a collection agency for failure of the billing system that they have. It says DO NOT MAKE PAYMENT! but how can you tell? They are a complete total scam! The vps firewall was dropped for no reason during the morning. I asked why and they left the chat. They have good VPS if you got the extra $59 to cover the beginning.

Simply stated - BoxVPS is a scam. Do not succumb to their offers, no matter how attractive they might seem. This is apparently just another in a long line of scams appearing with startling frequency on WHT. This phenomenom makes it difficult to give new hosts a try.

Server4you.de Is A Scam

Mar 7, 2008

I am a very diplomatic person and I believe in doing fair business. This is why I've decided to write this post in your forums as well as my own and a few others. I want to share with the world our horrible experience with Server4you.de in hopes of saving the rest of you from their lies.

I am not one to openly bash people online but I feel the need to spare all of you from falling victim to this company!

In order to offer the most stable listening experience to all of you, we needed to add another European server. Doing a little research in Google, we fell on Server4you.de (a German company).

Here is an example of what they promote (in German):

AMD Athlon 64 X2 3400+,
DualCore 64 Bit,
1.024 MB DDR2-RAM
1x 160 GB SATA-HDD
Betriebssystem: OpenSuSE,
Fedora, Ubuntu und Debian
Plesk 8.2 - 10 Domains
Unbegrenzter Datentransfer (which means unlimited datatransfer)
Kostenloser Support per
E-Mail und 0800-Hotline

Before hand, we verified with them that the unlimited datatransfer package was accessible for streaming. Most companies don't allow this so it is always the first question to ask. They confirmed that there was no problem at all!

Well, after 2 months of service with them, they are telling us that we must limit our datatransfer to 75GB/day or 2TB/month. You might think that this is already a lot but this is standard for most dedicated servers and this suddenly makes them pretty expensive (even for North-American standards). Note that European bandwidth is known to be significantly cheaper than North-American bandwidth.

This was one of the few times I've had to sign a contract for hosting. So for the next year, I'm stuck paying for cheap/mediocre quality bandwidth that's suddenly not even unmetered anymore! I would walk away from them if I could (contract or no contract, I don't care) but since we're outside Germany, they made us pay for 12 month in advance. So if I want to get anything out of that money, I have no choice to use their low grade bandwidth.

Basically, consider yourself warned! Don't do business with Server4you!

They actually disconnected our servers without warning or even messaging us because we had apparently reached this new bandwidth quota which had never been mentioned in the past!

ADDR.COM SCAM

Dec 21, 2008

Yesterday I got a call from addr.com (caller id read AFTERGEN INC. tel: 409-938-0691)
The man with the Indian accent of some advised me that my webhosting has been active since 2001 and he said I owe them $750 or so. I told him I haven't hosted with them since 2001. He advised me that they the hosting account has been active since then.

So I tell him that you waited 8 years to call me? He said well "we couldn't get in touch with you at your hotmail account". Yea but still 8 years to call me? He tells me that I didn't cancel hosting with them.

I know for a fact that as soon as you don't renew hosting with addr.com or any other webhosting service, they will give 1 or 2 weeks to pay or they will delete your account. Then I said I won't pay them a dime! He tells me that he can give me a discount. Can you believe this scam? I hang up the phone on them.

SO NOW I OWE $750 to addr.com for past fees and they are claiming that I never cancelled hosting with them and I didn't notify them.

Best Way To Tell A Scam Web Host

Oct 11, 2008

Before I got into web hosting business, I too, searched the whole World Wide Globe for a good web hosting company. And like many fall for some scams and learned from my experiences. Here are some ways you can tell a web host that is not safe.
Sign-up Page isn't secure.

Request a server IP to ping. This way you can figure out if the company is on a VPS, Reseller or a computer in someone's apartment [Reverse IP Check]

Unlimited Everything (well back in the day it was part of it until Yahoo decided to go solo) Company website itself goes down.

Can't find any of their representatives online (e.g. forums, blogs).

Doesn't have a Phone Number to reach.

Private Domain Registration (would you really send your money to a unknown company's PO.BOX address?)

Lies to you (e.g. Gives you 1 TB Bandwidth, but if you use up 50 GB and they close your account)

Asks for SSN/EIN for security purposes (hmm... complete B.S)

Doesn't tell you exactly how they protect your data, how secure the server is and so on.
Asks for your PayPal Username & Password on their website (also known as phishing)
Do a WHOIS Search and check how long they have been on business. (added by maccrazy)

Those are just some of things I found in a scam web host. I am sure there are many, please feel free to share your story and precautions you take.

Tagbridge Is A SCAM

Jun 19, 2008

TagBridge is by far the worst company to get involved with. I purchased a VPS and they said in a support ticket 5 hours after I bought it that it will be setup in a few minutes. 24 hours later I cancel and request a refund and I went with veritynet.. 12 hours later my VPS was made and I still have a cancellation request in place which they ignored. It has been a week now and I'm still attempting to get a refund. Jamie blocked me on MSN to avoid my conversation. I talked to a friend of his and everytime has asks Jamie for a refund jamie doesn't respond. HORRIBLE SUPPORT. Now I have a VPS I have no use for, that of which I canceled 12+ hours before it was even MADE and they refuse to message me back regarding my refund.

This will be posted EVERYWHERE till I get my refund. This business is a scam and I don't want to be involved with it anymore.

JosephSpencer.com And Turnkeysites.com Is A SCAM

Oct 10, 2008

DO NOT use TurnkeySites.com or JosephSpencer.com! BOTH are owned by a scammer:

JosephSpencer.com and Turnkeysites.com
1685 H STREET, SUITE 433, 98230
Blaine, Washington
United States
Phone: 360-303-0369

I WARN ANYONE WHO IS ABOUT TO USE EITHER OF THESE SITES THAT THEY ARE RIP OFFS! The owner, Joseph Spencer, has stolen ALL the content he sells, gives credit to himself, and even locks the content with a license to his name!!

If you do buy content from him, it has been stolen, and there is a chance it will be taken down at ANYTIME. Not only that, but Joseph Spencer plays the "nice" game with you so you purchase one little item. Their is always by coincidence a problem with the item leading to you having to purchase another one of his items or services. He is a COMPLETE scammer!

Look.. Two other pissed off customers:

My recommendation is to just STAY AWAY from those two websites to avoid legal issues and harassment from Joseph Spencer.
