Hostv Issues After Signup

Jun 12, 2008

I would like to share with guys the experience I had with Hostv over past 7 days.

After signing up I got some email configuration problem on server side, but I haven't changed a thing on that section. I couldn't send or receive emails for like two days, contacted the support, didn't a reply till 12 hours later (ok maybe that's because it was Saturday ). After about 10 emails going forward and back they then found out the problem was caused by some misconfiguration on mail server, which I haven't NOT touched after I signup. Come on, I thought I purchased a VPS server not a $2.99 shared!. So basically I wasted two days on this email problem! After that I thought ok I can a have break now... but no there's more. The server goes down AT LEAST once a day, and when it's down, everything is DOWN, including the WHM and Virtuozzo. To sum it all up, I have not had a peaceful day since I joined them! Oh and by the way, my server is still down as I'm writing this! and has been so in about 1 hour now!

Hivelocity - Worst Signup Experience

May 2, 2009

11 days ago I signed up for a dedicated server with Hivelocity.

Hivelocity sent me an email requiring few more details in order to authorize my account to which I replied with all the details within few hours.

After that there was no communication for days. I couldn't get anybody on their online support; I've emailed sales, billing, support, even HivelocityGM asking them about the status of my request and had no responses. Not even one.

After few days I finally managed to contact somebody on their online support. They apologized, said that my server is being built and that it will be online in few hours.

After yet another day of no communication and no server details, I managed to contact another person on online support. This time he said that my authorization is not complete. Strange considering that one day before they were "building" my server.

I've decided to cancel my account and asked for the refund. Apparently nobody can't issue refunds except the GM, but I was assured that it would be handled on Mon morning. No surprises there, but nobody contacted me on Mon morning. I had to contact support again. I finally exchanged few emails with the GM and he apologized for the mix up and promised to handle my refund "right away".

That was on 27th Apr. Since then I haven't received any other communication and no refund. I've raised the dispute with PayPal.

Hawk Host Signup Review

Sep 20, 2008

we finally did the switch to Hawk Host last night. The account setup went well and I talked to Tony personally about an issue I was having getting the log in for cpanel.

Got the site uploaded and everything fine. I did have an issue with some random php errors but submitted it to support and it was fixed before the end of the night.

Overall very impressed so far and the site seems to have a quicker load time that it ever has. Also can't beat getting 45% off thanks to the code in the hosting deals forum. I have a mailing list up and running and am looking at other scripts that might be useful at the moment.

Fraud Blacklist

May 21, 2008

We've had a couple cases of fraud recently, and have blacklisted the IPs (which turned out to be proxy servers) of the perpetrators. It got me thinking... has anybody put together any kind of IP blacklist for fraudulent orders? Something like a DNSBL for spam, but focused on IPs that fraudsters use?

What Anti-Fraud Measures Do You Use

Sep 30, 2009

Over the past number of years there has been an obvious increase in credit card fraud and identity theft.

Our policies have always tried to stay a step ahead but it seems no matter what is done the occasional fraudster manages to squeeze through, costing us a lot of money. At one some point in early 2009, it got as bad as 60% of the orders we received. It ended up eating a LOT of our time just to go through each order and verify them as best we could.

What methods do you use to fight fraud?

I'll start with some of the things we do.

- Require CVV code on the credit card
- We call the customer's telephone number and verify with them. - Verify the telephone number matches the region of the address they provide
- Require the CC issuing Bank's name and number
- We often require the customer to fax a signed credit card authorization form
- GeoIP matches location of the address in the order

Obviously the big challenge is proving that the person placing the order is the actual owner of the card. I've received the correct CVV, spoken with the customer on the phone number, had the phone number match the region... non-US so I wasn't able to verify their telephone details with the issuing bank. Had the GeoIP match and still found out it was fraud.

On a side note: Am I the only one that feels banks and those issuing credit cards need to take more responsibility for a system that's clearly broken? Even after going through the process above, it can still be fraud with a chargeback issued. In those cases, the company loses the money they made, pay a fee to the payment provider, lost time for Sales Reps and Tech Reps, and of course they lose money on hardware, electricity and bandwidth.

Increase In Fraud Orders

Jul 28, 2009

Anyone else see an influx of fraudulent CC orders with all valid information? Even the IP of these orders matches or comes close to matching the address. What's in common is that email correspondence reveals Asia-based IP addresses and the phone number never checks out.

Could this be due to the recent Network Solutions breach? I've never seen so many fraudulent orders with nearly everything checking out.

Minimize / Checking For Fraud Orders

Oct 24, 2008

what are some of the ways to minimize credit/debit card fraud when someone purchases services over the Internet? I understand the following are commonly used:

-AVS check

-IP of customer vs. Billing Address

-Amount of order

With chargeback fees so high I'd really like to minimize fraud without tossing legit orders.

How To Fight Phishing / Fraud Sites In Free Hosting Server?

Aug 30, 2007

I run a Free web hosting service on my server with XPanel script installed. It has around 47K accounts in all. Recently i started getting mails from e-bay, banks and many other institutions regarding the Phishing sites operating from my server for cheating their customers / members. Though i removed them but i have to do it manually and after getting mails from them.

Now that i dont want any more such site to run from my hosting site, What are the options available for me in order to check all accounts automatically and remove any such site on its own? As there are 47K accounts and 100+ new signups each day, it is not possible to check all accounts manually.

I want any script / addon which can check all possible Phishing / Spamming / Spurious / Fraud sites and intimate me/ delete them upon request. Any person using such services? I need your guidance + support.

Looking for some fast and effective answers from experts here.

Hostnine Afiiliates " Scam, Fraud "

Oct 5, 2008

I joined Hostnine.com affiliates program and within the first two months of pushing their services I had made over 2800 dollars in commissions. Whats the problem you might ask. They don’t pay. They don’t answer their phones and when I went to their forum to ask a question about the affiliate program I was banned in 1 min after asking. I tried online help but the guy who works for online help has alot of excuses. I will make sure everyone knows about this rip off scam so people like me can avoid this company altogether. I’m not the only one who was taken. After I couldn’t get him to answer me in repeated emails i googled hostnine scam and many other ways to see if their we others.

Of course their are, someone he owes 6500 dollars and even employees of his company begging to get paid so they can pay their bills. Their were also customers saying how hostning had canceled their accounts after three months for no reason. Even customers who had canceled and were still being charged via credit card. at the last ticket Ben gabler the owner of the company said that the check has been sent out to my country..

But i didn't send any address for my country. So, how did he get it?

I think this is rather absurd. Is this normal? I'm not doing it, I think it's stupid, never mind that I don't have a scanner.

WHMCS Hacked

Nov 23, 2008

Now, first of all... I'm not sure if this is a problem with WHMCS or some other piece of software with a security hole, but I thought I should post here.

Our WHMCS got hacked earlier today and the hacker sent out a to be honest, unacceptable email to all clients, I won't go into detail but lets just say it directly insulted them.

Now apart from ruining our reputation and client relationships, I am now completely paranoid that it will happen again. I'd also like to know how it happened in the first place. The hacker signed up for a hosting account, and then sent the email. I have no idea how he/she did it, but when I look at the admin log in WHMCS, it shows the username "hacked" as logging in (see image).http://img378.imageshack.us/img378/2560/hackedmh9.png

Just a warning to everyone out there. His IP address was 86.132.228.82.

WHMCS Security

Apr 24, 2009

So I've been using WHMCS for a while, and there's something I'm a little concerned about with the whole keeping customers credit cards for recurring payments.

I've downloaded a backup copy of the database and I see that the passwords and credit card information is encrypted. That's all nice and handy but the CC hash is also stored right in the configuration file. That means that if someone gains access to the server and just grabs the database + config file they would then be able to view all that info correct? Maybe someone who knows a little more about WHMCS can tell me if this is correct or not?

WHMCS Callback

Mar 29, 2009

We've been using WHMCS for a while and every time a customer paid via. 2checkout it works but when they click "Finalize Payment" on 2co, it goes to the callback URL, but the gateway callback URL is blank. PayPal works but 2co doesn't. The reason it's a problem is it doesn't mark the payment as "paid" so I have to confirm it manually; a pain.

Yes, I've contacted WHMCS.com but they weren't too sure about it; they told me to add a line in configuration.php "$display_errors="on"" but it didn't do much for this problem.

WHMCS & Hosting

Jun 28, 2008

I'm currently reselling/hosting with godaddy and while their products and pricing and acceptable, the reseller store they provide is just horrible. The design is pathetic and dated and it is very limited in how how much presentation we have control over.

That being said, I have been looking into WHMCS to run a store on my own website and quite like what I see. I was wondering if somebody can recommend a reputable and cost-effective as the only control panels WHMCS supports is Plesk and Cpanel. (Plesk would be preferred as I have had more experience with it.)

WHMCS CronJob

May 14, 2008

I have a reseller account with Reseller Zoom. My problem started 72 hours ago when I noticed my WHMCS was not working on my website. I was also recieving Cron Daemon emails stating:

Site error: the file <b>/home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/cron.php</b> requires the ionCube PHP Loader ioncube_loader_lin_5.2.so to be installed by the site administrator.

at this time i was using the standard WHMCS cron: php -q /home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/cron.php

RZ told me they made a custom php.ini file and placed it in my directory. Then said to change my Cron job to

php -c/home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/php.ini /home/tmass10/public_html/clients/admin/cron.php

At this point i noticed the WHMCS was loading again on my website. However I am still recieving Cron Job errors.
