Powweb Charging Loyal Customers More...

Jul 11, 2008

Powweb's regular monthly charge is $7.77... Long term customers have been paying this for years, and it's still the price listed on their main page. It's even the price new customers will pay...

However, existing customer for some reason now have to pay the undocumented price of $8.77 a month.

Way to treat your existing customers! Charging them more for no reason other than they've been loyal!

HostGator Does Not Honor Deals With Loyal Customers

Apr 24, 2009

I had no problems with HostGator until recently. I had a dedicated elite server for my sites and they offered me a deal for more bandwidth. They gave me an extra TB of bandwidth for $100/mo. My total was $379/mo.

Recently, my sites have grown and HostGator tells me they can't honor their deal anymore as their bandwidth bill has gone up. Not only did they take the extra bandwidth away, they charged me $0.50/GB over 2.5 TB! I was under the planned 3.5 TB THEY AGREED UPON and they took back the deal. Keep in mind, I've had that deal for over a year.

They ended up stealing $250 from me. I cancelled immediately and found a host that won't screw me over. Don't trust these guys, they steal from loyal customers. I was with them for a couple years and they pulled this crap? TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE!

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Application Updates For Specific Customers Is Being Sent To ALL Customers

Jul 11, 2014

I've got a e-mail notification problem since i upgraded from Plesk 11.5 to Plesk 12: One specific Application Update for customer X is being sent to all my customers.

Last week we did have a problem with a busted customer portal. ( not customer X, plus still on Plesk 11.5 ) I fixed this by using this procedure: [URL] ..... Restored two records and problem solved.

As a temporary resolution we disabled Application Updates for our customers, but I do want that my customers receive Application Updates, but just the one where they are the recipient.

Liquid Web Now Charging For Using Their DNS

Jun 19, 2008

I found out that now LiquidWeb is charging $15 per domain for using their name servers.

That's right. To use their name servers, you need to pay $15 for EACH and EVERY domain name.

When I first joined I talked to support because I needed a solution that used an anonymous domain server and they said that they could do it with no problem. (We're talking about under 100 domains total)

Now that all my servers are moved there, they screw it all up by charging $15 per domain.

I HIGHLY Recommend staying away from this company until they fix this issue.

I have private nameservers but the whole fact of me signing up with them was the fact that they could provide name servers.

The worst part is that there was no notice, no email, nothing notifying me of this change. It just happened one day.

I'll be posting on my blog (sig) and recommending all the people I have referred don't use their services.

How To Stop Dedicatedbox.net From Charging Me

Sep 17, 2008

I was using a server from dedicatedbox until last month. And I didn't want suffer anymore from their terrible service (IP taken away/provided less memory then ordered/down time/rarely answered support tickets/refused to fix problem after phone call), so I terminated my server last month. So my server was indeed shutdown as requested.

But after terminating the server, they still keeps sending bills and charing me. I have my credit card charged back the first bill. But seems that they are going to charge me another time this month. I tried to call them, but the phone call wasn't answered.

how could I stop them from making trouble?

Provider Keeps Charging, How To Cancel My Card?

May 29, 2009

I know there is chargeback and all, but here in our country.. I heard from my lawyer I could get sued if I charge back, and banks here generally does not approve of such actions.

Anyways, I have a really lousy windows reseller provider and I will be moving the remaining accounts out soon, since their support is no longer responding to anything I ask...

What I fear is the monthly billing will still continue, and I have no means of demanding them to end it..

Would I get into trouble if I decide to just close my cc instead?

My 5 Year Review Of Powweb

Oct 19, 2007

I have had several accounts with Powweb for 5 years now and I thought I would write a brief review of them:

BEFORE

I originally went with Powweb 5 years ago based off of a referral from a friend. At the time, the “shared hosting environment” isn’t quite what it is today. For the first several years, I experienced trouble free hosting (for the most part) and truly felt as though I was “getting what I paid for.”

Powweb, back then, was a privately owned company based out of California ( I believe) and I usually got the impression that most of their employees truly cared about their customers and the quality of service they provided. What made them semi-unique at the time, was that they offered only a “one plan solution” (they didn’t offer multiple plan types) and the simplicity of their business model worked well for most.

Powweb was also unique in that they offered community forums which were pretty “open” and it truly allowed customers to discuss problems and issues with one another. A few years ago, they transitioned from private dedicated servers to a clustered environment and that did bring along some hard time, but they got it under control eventually. Overall, I was satisfied with the service.

NOW

A year or so ago Powweb was bought-out by Endurance. If you do not know anything about Endurance, they are a very large web-hosting company which has acquired several other large shared-hosts over the past few years.

Once Powweb was purchased by Endurance, the quality in service immediately decreased. Part of what Endurance does with most of their acquisitions is to assimilate them into their fold. This was a very shaky process and nearly everyone experience a large amount of downtime.

Additionally, Powweb is now plagued by horrible MySQL issues where the service is nearly completely useless. For the past year, Powweb has been either unable or unwilling to fix these issues. It can often take several minutes for even the most basic of queries to run. Any dynamic type of an application: forums, blogs, CMS, are usually rendered completely useless.

To make matters worse, Powweb continues to aggressively advertise these resource heavy applications and then ask for patience as they attempt to get their issues fixed. It has been about a year now, and still it is not resolved. Much of these issues come from the extreme overselling that Powweb does. Nearly every day, all websites (even static ones) come to a complete crawl.

Calling customer support is also a waste of your time. 95% of the time, you are met by a rude person who simply tells you “well, it seems to work for me” or that “we are aware of the problem” (at best). Opening support tickets is also usually not helpful. Tickets are often closed without any contact with the customer and it is very common for them to “give you the run-around.”

I have been told by support several times to keep an eye on the forums for updates on issues and whatnot. Then, if you go to the forums and attempt to get any information from there, you are told that ‘these are only user-helping user forums’ and that you can’t get any official help there, though customer support told you to go to that very place. Additionally, Powweb’s staff practices extreme censorship of the forum and it is common for negative remarks to be removed or posts completely deleted, many times without any acknowledgement of the act.

In addition to the MySQL issues, Powweb also experiences frequent “lock-ups,” CGI issues, email issues, dns issues, and so on and so forth. The list of problems that has occurred over the past year is literally too long to remember.

In conclusion, the Powweb of new is nothing like the Powweb of old. This new Powweb is controlled by an over-selling giant (Endurance) that is only concerned with the number of accounts as apposed to the quality of service. While certainly any business related site should not be in such an environment at all, I would even suggest that people looking for a host for hobby related purposes stay clear of powweb – it’s that bad.

FatCow, Dot5, PowWeb, IPower: One In The Same!

Aug 5, 2008

I found out today that FatCow, Dot5 Hosting, PowWeb, and iPower Hosting are all part of the smae hosting conglomerate. The parent company is called Endurance International Group. It seems that the companies have gone out of their way to make their connections unpublished, which is very misleading to their customers. However, I recognized some similarities of their websites, and spoke with a representative over the phone who admitted that they were all connected. There are probably other companies too, but they wouldn't give out any more info.

DNS At Customers

It seems that some of my customers are having serious DNS problems because their ISPs have old DNS information, and while I can access their web sites here, entire regions can't access their web sites. Obviously they ban my server because they say the web site is unaccessible is the whole city or region.

What do you suggest in this case? (Using different DNS is not a solution for a whole city; ISPs don't answer my calls)...

To Move 100+ Customers

May 12, 2008

I have been running a small web hosting business now for a couple of years, and have around 100 customers. This is all run through a reseller package with BPWeb.

Recently I decided to expand, and purchased another company. This one has nearer 200 customers, and is with EUK host with a dedicated server.

I am going to merge the two onto the dedicated, as I have Cpanel and WHM there. BPweb only offer their own custom control panel.

All my previous customers are hosting only, so I have no access to their nameservers. I need to as smoothly as possible move these customers across. I thought I'd move the domain that all their namesevers point to already over to the new dedicated server, and that should follow there. But how can I move content of these 200 accounts over. Simple webpages I'd just FTP, but things like Cron jobs and databases....

How To Renumber Customers

Oct 30, 2007

how to renumber new customers.I have a situation where my company took over number of DSL customers who have routers with old IPs block mapped on them from an old company.

Once the carrier connects those customers to my router via PVC can I some how access those routers from withing my network even though thy have old IPs in them and renumber them to my own IPs? Is it true that if I bind an old gateway IP to my router that those customer's routers were using I would be able to access those customer routers?

Also, I would like to eliminate interaption of service to the new customers, so if I make an agreement with their old ISP where I would start advertising the IP blocks those customers were using with the old ISP via BGP while renumbering is taking place. How long would the down time be for switching route of IP blocks from their router to mine?
