We operate many Plesk VPS servers in a virtual environment for our customers and would really like the ability to allow Plesk VPS servers to switch to using our PPA DNS servers instead of having to have multiple ips on each VPS to run their own name servers. Not to mention the added nuisance of each customer having to register name servers and glue records.
We looked at adding the Plesk servers as nodes to our PPA cluster but the license jump and loss of Nginx is completely prohibitive. Is this possible?

On a clean install of CentOS 6.6 (Final) I did the following:
1. updated the /etc/hosts file to point my ip to the hostname
2. Open the ports in the iptables file.
3. ran the ppa_installer per the instructions on [URL] ....
The ppa_installer log says installed Successfully. However the following occurs:
1. Cannot browse to the url:8443, or any of the other variations (8080, 8880, https/http)
2. Yum installer is now broken (I replicated this twice). Yum will not run at all with the following error:
There was a problem importing one of the Python modules required to run yum. The error leading to this problem was: /usr/lib64/libcurl.so.4: file too short
Please install a package which provides this module, or verify that the module is installed correctly. It's possible that the above module doesn't match the
current version of Python, which is: 2.6.6 (r266:84292, Jan 22 2014, 09:42:36) [GCC 4.4.7 20120313 (Red Hat 4.4.7-4)]
I am now going to try Cent OS 6.4.. will report back.
I'm currently running Dell 1750s, 1850s, and 1950s in a colo facility. I am not happy with the 1850s and 1950s power consumption. My 1950s have a single quad core 5310, 2GB memory, dual 15k 73GB drives, dual power suppies and are running at about 1.9 amps with spikes up to 2.4 amps. My applications are disk bound and the servers typically run at a load of .1 to .2.
I'm looking for alternatives to the 1950 that use significantly less power. I need at least 2 Hot Plug SAS drives and would like to have it in 1U. I run 2GB of memory. Dual power supplies would be nice, but are not absolutely necessary. I'd rather not go with a non-hot plug solution, but may have to consider it. I will probably buy 10-15 servers soon and would like them to be identical. I'd prefer buying a name-brand.
to ship 2 machines to LINX and DECIX from the US, and obviously need either adapters or just new cables. I'm just not certain what plug type is used at both or either location. I guess I'm looking for information similar to like what we have here in the US (NEMA 1-15 or NEMA 2-20).
what network device would suit our needs (and whether there is something like what we need).
The device should meet following criteria:
-it should appear as one device only: a L2 switch is not an option as the device has to announce only one MAC address on the uplink port
-plug&play: a gigabit L3 switch is not an option because we would have to change the default gateway of the already configured servers to the L3 switch's IP
-gigabit ports
Is there any reliable device that could be used for this purpose?
I have recently deployed PPA with on nodes with hostnames on the serverroom.net.au domain, so management.serverroom.net.au, mail.serverroom.net.au etc. The DNS is currently hosted on a plesk server which will soon be migrated to PPA.
When I add the serverroom.net.au domain to PPA, I it fails at the sync task with an error saying that there are no A or AAA records for ns1.serverroom.net.au, even when these records exist in the external DNS. The same error occurs when I try to add the domain as a dns entry and switch to internal...
i have installed a Win2008R2 server with IIS and Coldfusion. I want to allow customer to set DSN, i know that older "Plesk Panel" versions that can do but i missing this now in PPA in the customer view. In the subscription is OBDC and Coldfusion connections allowed and unlimited. Must i do anything to activate this ?
Is it somehow possible to disable autoresponders for spam mails? Many spam mails are sent under false addresses and will produce MAILER DEAEMON messages if the autoresponder trys to reply to them.
We currently have Plesk Expand 2.3.2 with 3 Linux servers, 1 Windows server, a SmarterMail server and 2 DNS servers that we are looking to migrate to PPA 11.5. I have the PPA working okay and am trying to test out a migration on just one domain from one of the Linux servers. When I run the preliminary check I keep getting this error:
Error: Mail content transfer from Qmail/Postfix to SmarterMail mail service is not supported.
Assign this subscription to a service template which offers Postfix mail service. We aren't using Qmail or Postfix for user mailboxes in the Expand or PPA systems, only the SmarterMail. I've tried the work around listed here: [URL] .... but that didn't work.
Am I still going to have to assign Postfix to my Service Templates in PPA even if we're not planning on using it for mailboxes?
Some of our clients have alot of webspaces (resellers that migrated from Expand) and having to order the list of webspaces each time they want to move to another domain is causing them some hassle. Is there a way to set the webspaces to order by name by default?
I just noticed that in our first zone, every record has a TTL of 900. All three nameservers in our system are handing out the same incorrect TTLs (easily visible via AXFR, and expected since two are slaves). Operations > Customers > Customer > Domains > domain shows every record in this zone has a TTL of 42300. The DNS resource's Activation Parameters and zone's SOA are set as follows:
Refresh 43200 Retry 600 Expire 2419200 Min TTL 900 Default TTL 43200 (for the resource; not editable for the zone)
PPA seems to be silently using the Min TTL to override the zone records that it shows with the desired TTL on screen. Changing the Min TTL in the SOA for a zone changes the TTL of all records.
This zone has both template-generated and manual records.
We are having an issue with websites randomly getting disabled within our PPA system. There doesn't seem to be any reason why they are getting disabled. Our PPA is not tied to a billing system that would make them shut off. Turning them back on works fine but it shouldn't be just shutting them off.
We are trying to add new service node but when we are trying to finish procedure we receive error: The usage of the resource "IP addresses" for subscription with ID "1" exceeds the value of "0".
We do not have a such subscription using ID "1". As I can see this is the ID in database for "Parallels Automation License Key", but it has unlimited license key and have already two nodes attached.
Are there any special practices to reboot a node in PPA?
So far a simple "shutdown -r now" hasn't broken anything but I want to make sure PPA doesn't make assumptions about the nodes being up at any point. (both management and service)...
1) I've used yum to upgrade php on a linux from 5.3.3 to 5.4.21, how do i update PPA to show 5.4.x rather than 5.3.3 (ideally it should read the server on scheduled task to get version number)
2) On Windows VMs it installed PHP 4, PHP 5.2, 5.3, 5.4. How do i a) remove PHP 4 option.
3) How do I specify which should be the default PHP Version.
The migration tool allows only migration from other Parallels environments. What is the best way to migrate from an IIS environment. I'm assuming the API can be used to simply create webspace subscriptions and set the resource limits, right?
Does HTTPS on a Windows site require SNI like it apparently does on Linux nodes? If it does, I've been avoiding moving a site to an existing server that only has one IP, so I may as well move it there instead of setting up a Windows node in PPA.
I configured Cloudflare in admin panel, I then logged in using my test customer account, I tried to install CloudFlare application (without license key for free mode) . I got the following error:
Error: Installation of CloudFlare for Parallels Plesk at http://MyLinuxWebsite.cyberhostpro.com/CloudFlare failed. Non-zero exit status returned by script. Output stream: 'PHP Warning: SimpleXMLElement::__construct(): Entity: line 6: parser error : Opening and ending tag mismatch: hr line 5 and body in /usr/local/psa/var/apscache/data-mezJCJ/scripts/configure.php on line 262
I created a MS SQL 2012 DB server node. It installed MS SQL and also IIS to the node. Therefore this server is now showing it will host both IIS sites and MS SQL sites. However, I do not want it to host IIS sites, just databases. But I cannot remove the host from the IIS attribute. How would I do this to ensure no IIS sites get created on this Database server? BTW, the MS SQL 2008 node only installs MS SQL 2008, not also IIS. Not sure why 2012 is different.
In the end, I should be able to determine which nodes I want to be called into service depending on the service template/resource. For example, if I want a reseller to use only certain servers, then I should be able to create resources with only those servers in them which I can then assign to resellers.
im trying to migrate my plesk 11 linux server (i installed the PPA Moving Tools) but when im running the assimilate command: ppa-assimilate generate-migration-list config.ini...im getting this error:
