View 6 RepliesWe are seeing intermittent slow responses from SMTP on a RHEL6 server running Qmail on Plesk 11.5. The response is being measured from a remote Zabbix server.
The response time seems to be slow (>10s) for a period of 2-3 minutes and then returns to normal (<1s). All other services continue to be ok during the period of slowness.
The server_args line in /etc/xinetd.d/smtp_psa already contains "-Rt0" and all the DNS servers in /etc/resolv.conf are resolving properly.
From looking at the maillog file the server was receiving about 35 SMTP connections a minute at the time of the slowdown. We have the server configured to use 2 x RBL's.
I wonder if we are hitting a limit on the maximum amount of SMTP connections. The file /var/qmail/control/concurrencyincoming does not exist so, according to the Qmail manual, there shouldn't be a limit on the number of incoming SMTP connections.
I have a dedicated server that I am renting that appears to randomly respond very slowly for some reason (pings are between 90-4000ms with about 75% packet loss).
This has been happening lately (about once a week for the past 4 weeks) and I thought I had originally found the cause of the problem but it appears I haven't.
Originally, when this problem was happening we were getting an abnormally high about of traffic but a reboot always fixed the issue. I've checked every where I can think of but I cannot find anything out of the ordinary.
ight now we're averaging less than 2Mbps in traffic, the CPU load is less than 0.75, the memory usage is at 55% with no swap being used, Apache connections are normal, no active SSH, FTP, or mail connections, I've restarted all services which had no impact, I've checked the access and error logs but can't see anything out of the ordinary.
I have a ticket open with the data center but I'm trying to figure this out on my own to fix whatever is causing this so I can move my data over to a new server we just got setup over the weekend in a local data center.
I recently made a shift to FDC for one of my servers that I use for downloadable content.
I went for a $199 server with a 100mbps shared bandwidth port. Now, the only problem I seem to be having with it is that downloads appear to be, I would say recognized, very slowly by the server before they start, however, once the download starts I get a full speed. This usually happens during peak times.
I'm using about 10/15mbps on the server according to my cPanel statistics. I just wanted to ask here prior to contacting FDC on this, whether this slow server response time has something to do with the bandwidth port, or perhaps the server's RAM, CPU, etc? Given I'm using quite minimal bandwidth on the port, should I consider having them fix this or upgrade the server instead?
And if I had to upgrade, would I need to upgrade the port or the RAM, or both for this?
I've been trying to get ahold of Awknet (www.awknet.com) Sales sector for about a week now and still no response :-( Does anyone have similar experience? Or maybe Awknet just didn't get my email? :<
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have Qmail installed on my Centos box. There seems to be some problem with connection because when I run DNSreport from dnsstuff.com on it it shows me that it cannot connect to mailserver.
I tried telnet from local and this is what happened...
telnet mail.mydomain.com 25
Trying XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX...
Connected to mail.mydomain.com (XXX.XXX.XXX.XXX).
Escape character is '^]'.
then nothing happens for a while (about 30s)
and then I receive this greetings message:

How can I speed up this process? Are there any lookups possible or what?
10 days ago, I require volumedrive.com assign another ip to my server.
Yestoday, I ask them again.
I hope donnot need another 10 days.
Limestone's support is extremely slow. I just got a server with them to host VPSes, so I was inquiring about additional IPs in case I needed them.
Their first two responses were within 4-5 hours, which is bearable. However, yesterday, I actually needed to order more IPs and posted a new reply. I have yet to receive a reply after over 12 hours and my client has been left waiting to receive the additional IPs he ordered.
I haven't been with Limestone long, and I haven't had much other experience with their support, but I was unsure what else to do other than post this here and hopefully get a resolution.
I know their servers are unmanaged and pretty cheap, but I think they should still take the time to answer tickets in a decent amount of time.
Has anyone had similar experiences with Limestone?
This is in regard to ongoing stress I've had over this server from DN...
Keep in mind this is a NEW server order; my first with this company.
I was assigned IPs that appear to be on multiple spam block lists. The "biggest" problems are mail being dumped to bulk by yahoo and dumped to bulk or completely black holed by hotmail. It was also blocked by comcast, mail.ru, and anyone who uses SORBS (those are the only ones I KNOW about so far). This helps reinforce the suspicion that bulk mail was being delivered from the IPs at some point.
I Contacted support at 9PM on the 13th and was referred to abuse. Only after complaining again on the 17th, was I told they requested removal from ONE of the blacklists and they would "look into" the others. I replied saying I wanted new IPs or I would request a refund and that I did not feel the service I recently purchased was actually delivered.
Now here is the part that is giving me the feeling this will not end well for me; I no longer see the abuse department ticket when I log into their ticket system.
What If I ordered the server to use as a mail server? Am I out of line for finding a new server unable to deliver mail to the hotmail/yahoo inbox unacceptable?
Telling my customers to wait and maybe someday their mail will be delivered to the major free mail services is not the kind of reputation I want to have. Its feels like I was sold a problem someone else created and am expected to wait an unspecified amount of time to see if it can be resolved. I do not feel its fair to be left hanging while waiting for white listing attempts on IPs I did not soil in the first place.
I really hate bulk mailers and spammers. : /
I have built a database driven site with PHP & MySQL. Pages download quicker on some connections than other (obviously), however this is not due to connection speed. The web host server seems to respond very slowly to my boss's network (which is on a proxy server). Could it be that this problem is related to the web host? i.e. could it be that the web host is unequipped to deal quickly with this type of network?
On my home connection (2Mbps), pages often download instantly, however occaisionally I have to wait 10-20 seconds to receive the page from the host.
Finally, could you recommend an excellent web host to use with our site? My boss wants to offer a professional service where server response is quick. We are based in the UK.
I have Configured Apache2.4.4 for forward Proxy and tested from my browser the response is very slow and even not coming complete Response for some requests.
I also Tested the same for Apache2.2 Forward Proxy it is very fast and good.
May I know what is the Problem in Apache 2.4
Is there any Issues in proxy modules (mod_proxy,mod_proxy_connect.so,mod_proxy_http.so) in Apache2.4
This is the same configuration i used for Apache2.2 and Apache2.4

I am pretty much planning on switching web hosts largely because i cant get more than like 50-60kb upload on my godaddy account with FTP (Yet i get 600+ on everything else, And on my amazon s3 disk i get 2mb up..) And am trying to move a large number of files and it just takes too long. My Question is who has fast ftp for People in Ohio? (NE). Also Dreamhost says with their unlimited you can have 50GB for backup. Really i could use 50Gb to back up my info? With that i could in theory cancel my amazon S3 jungledisk (But i doubt anything would be as fast as jungledisk.)

The command top don't show special process which explain my problem. I don't understand how a process can kill my memory but not immediatly but from reboot to after 4 or 5 hours uptime.
I'm using the API to dynamically create new subscriptions. However, I frequently never receive a response back for my request.
I have enabled graceful restart, which has made an improvement, but my requests still fail to return a response every now and then.
This is problematic, because the script needs to know whether the subscription has been successfully created or not. Often times, when the script times out, the subscription was successfully created. But Once and and a while that's not true, and it is causing inconsistencies in my system.
My site will wait for 30s almost everytime before loading any of the page itself.Specs of my install:
- DigitalOcean Droplet (VPS) with Ubuntu Server 12.10: 512 Ram and 20GB SSD (not even coming close to needing more RAM, still have 240MB free according to top)
- Wordpress 3.6.1
- 5 plugins: W3 Total Cache, Wordpress SEO by yoast, WP Better Security, WP Smush.it, and Redirection (problem occured before adding the last 2, I can't remember about the others)
- No traffic to speak of. I get maybe 10 uniques/day.
- Apache 2.2.22
- MySQL 5.5.32
I've optimized my site itself the best I can, minifying and combine js and css files, using the WP Smush. It plugin to compress images, serving jQuery from a CDN, but none of that worked the 30 second wait (though it did shave about 10 seconds off the load time after the wait for response).
I was using cloudflare and had to fiddle with the nameservers of my domain, but cloudflare didn't work at all and I switched the nameservers back to normal pointing DNS directly at my site to eliminate the obvious causes. I'm comfortable with Linux and the command line. This is the link to my site: [URL] ....
I have recently purchased a GoDaddy Virtual Server running Fedora 7, with the Plesk Control Panel 8.3 installed - if I had remembered this site then I probably wouldn't have chosed GoDaddy, however my colleague runs a GoDaddy server and it works like a dream. I have only one domain on the site, running Boonex Dolphin 6.1. The site however runs EXCEPTIONALLY slow.
I have spoken with many friends that use Dolphin and they have no major issues. I also did a search on Google and found that there appear to be no major speed issues with Dolphin.
The site I am running is http://www.tkd-web.com
I wondered if some of you guys could take a look and let me know if it looks like a hosting issue or a scripting issue. Or what information do you need to know to find out the answer to this problem.
I would be really grateful to anyone that can even point me in the right direction, as I don't want to go off and start shouting the odds about GoDaddy etc, I just want to find the most effective solution to my issue.
I get "502 Bad Gateway" errors in browser and found this in logs:
- upstream prematurely closed connection while reading response header from upstream
- failed (111: Connection refused) while connecting to upstream
restarting Apache solves the problem temporarily.I tried tweaking both nginx and php-fpm config files without success.
my website serving only a piece of the page, but getting a 'bad server response' in the Activity Window of Safari, and CSS and other errors in FireFox, but both browsers rendering only a portion of the page.
What happened? I hadn't made any changes to the site or server in a long time.
Also it seems to be on the server since others are experiencing the same thing.
Oddly, the other virtual hosts running are fine.
I can not get a .JSP page to display on a deluxe hosted GoDaddy account. I have tried the most basic page. Just to make sure I do not have a type-o, I even used an HTML page to direct me.
Here is the HTML page that has the hyperlink. This page displays fine.
Code:
<html>
<head>
<title>Test</title>
</head>
<body>
Here is a test page
<a href="test.jsp">Test JSP</a>
</body>
</html>
Here is the JSP page that can not be displayed.
Code:
<%@ page language="java" contentType="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1"
pageEncoding="ISO-8859-1"%>
<!DOCTYPE HTML PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD HTML 4.01 Transitional//EN"
[url]
<html>
<head>
<title>Test</title>
</head>
<body>
Here is a test JSP page
</body>
</html>
When I click on the link, I get the HTTP 400 error saying the webpage could not be found. I know the code works since I have tested it locally. Plus the code is very simple.
I am very stumped here and have tried GoDaddy’s help multiple times. They keep telling me it is a scripting issue. I am not sure how it can be a scripting issue because there is no script here. Basically, it is an HTML page with a .JSP extension.
How can we know that how long it takes our server to respond, in terms of Microseconds. Is it take long time while processing an Ms Access database or SQL Server, Sending flash movies to client.
For example, I can accomplish a task while reading data from server database , also I can accomplish it using an image or flash movie.
Which way should be efficient for my visitors, I am using a paid hosting plan.
Also I have another question.
How could I know that a web hosting provider company's server is a fast machine than other company. I have options like "WebHost Company1" & "WebHost Company2"
I host the same website on both servers, while I request some page in a client machine, How could I measure the efficency & speed of the server, I am sure both servers will not send content to client with same speed.
due to any reasons, may be 1 server has more traffic, has slow hardware, has longer route.
Also which technology is faster, ASP, ASP.Net, PHP, coldfusion. Is there some way to measure these facts about a webserver.
In these cases, how could I choose best server. How to made decession about that.
Im trying to troubleshoot the exim install that was included with cpanel. I read that the helo response being localhost instead of a fully qualified domain can lead to mail be directed to the bulk mail folder.
Looking at the mail headers, this is indeed set this way:
Received: from www.mydomain.com ([my_ip_addr] helo=localhost)
How is this response determined and how can I have it be a fully qualified domain name instead?

I am posting this to tell my experience with UKeasily. I ordered a dedicated server from UKeasily on 8th March.
I did a research on WHT and chatted with their live help. Everything seems great. A tracert to their test IP also shows their server in good location and returned good net stats for me.
However, everything changed after I putting down my orders and paid the money. 8th March is a saturday and I do not expect them to act on week end. I phoned them on monday 10th March and got firm words from them that my order was received and the server will be ready in 48 hours. I was happy to hear it.
Then the bad news come. The dedicated server is not ready on 13th March. I waited for another day to call UKeasily. But only to find out that the UKeasily's telephone numbers are either no longer in use or go to answering machine. UKeasily's live chat has been offline for 5 days. Messages left out on their support system was not answered.
I did receive an email from google checkout telling me that UKeasily informed them the server order was shipped. I myself then checked my email box but found nothing. Called UKeasily again, still the answering machine.
I am running dedicated servers on UK2, OVH and Godaddy. Those companies may have slower server installation time but with good level of support. The level of service received from UKeasily is disappointing.
Beware if you were about to buy from UKeasily as of now. A server company that has the live chat offline for more than 5 consecutuve days and not answering even sales calls may not provide enough technical support while you need it. If you check their website, their live chat is still offline and sales number still goes to answering machine.

I've just recently installed Plesk Panel 11.5. Previously I was using a basic IIS Mail Server with the current server allowed to relay messages for my Web Sites.After installing Plesk, I went to Tools & Settings -> Server-Wide Mail Settings. In there, I have relaying set to Authorization is required (SMTP) and for the relay access I have the following 3 entries:
127.0.0.1/32
::1/128
<My Servers IP>/32
Whenever one of my sites tries to use this server now to send out mail, I keep getting the following error:Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local...I've been struggling with this issue for weeks now and have read all the documentation and forum posts I could think of, I've restarted the server, I've run C:Program FilesSWsoftPleskadminin>mchk --all --fix=all
The e-mail accounts that I'm using to send mail from has nothing to do with this server and it's domains, I'm just trying to set the mail server to start sending mails like my IIS server used to.I've found the setting to Open Relay on the server and have activated it, yet whenever one of the websites attempts to send a mail, the same response is received.Mailbox unavailable. The server response was: Requested action not taken: mailbox unavailable or not local.

We have a problem with a Plesk backup. We have about 300 domains, the scheduled task starts 23.30 and takes about 16 hours and thats not normal. Before it took about 9-10 hours for 'All configuration and content' and that was too long, so we set up for 'All configuration and content except mail'. It worked for a few days and then it started to take 14 - 16 hours for a server backup. We use Plesk 11.5 on CentOS 6 64bit.

Install Wordpress via the Parallels panel it loads and says it is all there, just can't log or display any pages. The default Parallels page is displayed.
Upload a html page via the File Manager in Parallels and it displays the default Parallels page.
Unpack the Wordpress tar file via File Manager and it displays the default Parallels page.
The Wordpress feature in Parallels says it is working fine, can't display any page, can't log in as it returns a 404 page or the default Parallels page.
Create a site in Presence builder and Parallels says there is a site. The default Parallels page is displayed when opening the site.
Go to DOMAINS and there is 0mb in space used and there are files listed in the File Manager - none of which can be displayed.
I've got 25 domains on a Virtuozzo/Plesk8.6/CentOS5 VPS. Each domain has one up-to-date install of WordPress, most have very little traffic (average 200mb per month), maybe 2 domains get 5-7gb traffic per month.
I monitor port 80 connections and rarely see more than 10 at a time.
That should in my opinion be no problem at all for a VPS with 768mb guaranteed ram and 2.4ghz cpu. I've got 30gb hard drive spare too.
But.... about 8 or 10 times a day it grinds to a complete halt: server load at 500-1000%, sites timing out, plesk takes 3mins to load, often I can't even connect with SSH, and the plesk web server, apache
INSERT INTO module_watchdog_sys_stat (time, type, value, service_id) VALUES(FROM_UNIXTIME(1226404705), 'MAINMEM_USAGE', 17472, 11);
80 seconds sounds like a huge amount of time for a MySQL insert to me! Does anyone know if this is likely to be the cause of my trouble? Some problem with Plesk and the database? Or could it be something else?
