My server was hacked so they did a OS reload. Everything seemed ok then they did the Level 2 Security Plan which includes

1. Now I get a timed out message via my browsers IE & Mozilla
2.When I try to FTP into an account I get this message, same message on all accounts.

[06:38:08] A connection attempt failed because the connected party did not properly respond after a period of time, or established connection failed because connected host has failed to respond.
3. When I try to retrieve my email via Outlook 2007 I get this
Receiving reported error (0x80042108) 0UTLOOK CANNOT CONNECT TO YOUR INCOMING (pop3) EMAIL SERVER

Servstra keeps telling me everything works on their end...... yet I cannot get to the server any longer.

Browser Timing Out/ftp Issues Asia Pacific/Australia/Oceania To US
I have a VPS located in LA, USA. For over a week now I have had the following network issues: - browser timing out (for me and visitors to my site) - ftp connection issues The server load is low so it's not server related. Traceroute TO the server appears fine. Traceroute FROM the server to users IP's appears to have issues over the SingTel/Optus network. My webhost says it's an issue for SingTel/Optus. SingTel/Optus Engineer say: "Our testings point to a problem either within Cogent's network or on a peering link between Cogent and Singtel in LA. I'd suggest that the owner of the domain (me!) approach his hosting provider and have them escalate to Cogent. We can't escalate to Cogent as we have no peering with them." So I've been the meat in the sandwich for over a week with no sign of a fix. My options appear to be to either move the VPS away from the webhost and host it locally (Australia) or to somehow wait for someone to step up and take responsiblity and get this resolved. My heart says wait as it's not *my* responsibility but it's costing me financially and professionally. Anyone else experiencing similiar/same issues from the Asia Pacific region to the US?

FTP: Access Denied On Whole Server
I have many accounts on my server, everyone can connect via FTP but when they try to upload something they get "access denied", i get it too, sometimes it works for a few minutes and goes back to giving me access denied. I have not changed any settings since it was working just fine before. I checked the folder permissions, user permissions, used chown command to make sure the folders belonged to the correct users/groups and I disabled the firewall same thing, any ideas what might be going on? do you this I have a virus on the server? it's a linux server

Email Stopped Working On Server
Recently I noticed that I was not getting any email on my server. Server is running CentOS When I send email to myself I am not getting anything and then it bounces back several days later saying the server is not responding. When I check on Dnsstuff.com I get the following: Trying to connect to all mailservers: mail.webzila.com. - 216.32.77.68 [Could not connect: Could not receive data: Operation timed out.] [Note that if your mailserver takes over 30 seconds to respond, our test will timeout, even though real mailservers will wait longer] I tried turning mail services OFF and then ON again in Plesk but that didnt help.

CPanel/WHM Server - Email Not Working
Just got a new server online this week from VolumeDrive, and everything has been going just fine with my initial setup. I transferred over 7 domains from another cPanel/WHM machine and the transfer feature worked flawlessly. Since I use Gmail for most of my communication, I haven't even had any email accounts setup on any of my domains in quite sometime. So knowing that I need a few setup for various correspondence, I went ahead and set one up tonight. I've setup and used mailboxes on cPanel machines before, and it's not exactly rocket science... pretty easy stuff. But what's weird here is that when I attempt to click on the "Webmail" icon from directly within cPanel, the Horde login fails over and over again. Then, if I setup the account in Thunderbird or Outlook using the CORRECT account information (username@domain.com as the login -- and the appropriate password/server settings), the client login fails also. To add to this weird behavior, I sent myself an email at the newly setup address with a 2mb attachment. Obviously I can't login to the account to see if the mail arrived, but at least it didn't bounce. However, when I'm in cPanel under this domain and go to "Email Accounts", I'm showing "0 Bytes" for usage under the account where i know there should be at least 2mb worth of usage.

VPS With CentOS, LXAdmin, And FTP Server Root Access
I've just signed up for my first VPS with CMBHosting and the person in charge, Chetan Bakhru, seems like a genuinely nice, friendly and helpful person. In other words this new service look promising at the moment. However ... When I signed up I selected his CentOS/LXAdmin plan because I figured that with a pre-installed control panel like LXAdmin I could avoid as much ssh as possible and simply get "up and running" more quickly. Plus I have some experience managing my own CentOS development machine, and I know that a special software package I plan to install runs on CentOS "out of the box" -- so I was expecting good things from this new VPS. But when my account was created LXAdmin did NOT create an FTP admin account for me with root access to my VPS! Instead it created an account that drops me into web server's document root folder, and this is far too limiting for me. I really need FTP root server access -- and I'm surprised that LXAdmin did not provide this access by default. Not only that, but it appears that I cannot create a new FTP account that has any deeper access than the existing admin account! Does anyone with LXAdmin experience know if this is the way LXAdmin normally works by default? Or is this perhaps a special configuration created by my new VPS host?

alright so first i used smartftp... and i thought i uploaded everything and when i go to ftp.mydomain.com all the files are there but anytime i actually try to go to mydomain.com, nothing shows up, and i already uploaded my index.htm i saved everything in an htdocs folder, was i not suppose to do that, or am i still suppose to do something at ftp.mydomain.com? or was i suppose to upload straight to mydomain.com

FTP Clients Are Not Working On My Computer
I have been using Vista 32-bit with FileZilla for 2-years on this computer. I haven't made any recent changes to my system, but suddently NO FTP clients work. I tried FileZilla and FireFTP (firefox extension). Neither can connect. FileZilla just gives a timeout error. FireFTP has been "connecting" for 5-minutes. No success. I tried to bypass my Linksys router and go directly through my cable model. They still do not work. I *CAN* connect to an FTP site using telnet command.

FTP Access Control
I'm setting up a system that is really stretching the limits of what FTP can do. Right now, I have a repository of files that only certain accounts should see, so I have another folder (one for each user) with tons of links to their appropriate files. Now all users must accept some T&C before any downloads, so I'm doing a per-IP permission based on this acceptance. I'd really like to do this with HTTP, but our clients like the speed and reliability (resuming) that FTP provides. Are there any other solutions out there? Any different technologies? Any other methods I haven't thought of?

FTP- Limiting Types Of Access
Is it possible to setup ftp accounts that have the ability for the users to view files on the server and upload their own files, but not download anything from the server? If so, how would this be done, if not, then as a 2nd option, do most hosting companies provide the option to disallow downloads on an ftp account if you need to do so, but allow uploads?

Can't Access Sub FTP Account Using Explorer
I have a few domains that I recently migrated to cPanel. I created a 2 ftp accounts on one domain and (example bill@site.com and john@site.com), both accounts can be accesed using ftp clients, and also from Opera browser with this info: ftp://site.com:21/ or ftp://server-ip:21/ - username bill@site.com or john@site.com and passwords. But, this accounts can not be accessed using Internet Explorer, and my customer only uses IE , the error I recieve is something like this: Code: FTP Directory Error Windows does not have access to that folder. Make sure the name of the directory was written ok and you have permission to access that directory. Details: The connection with the server was reset I already tried restarting pure-ftpd, flushing the firewall rules, and there problem stills.. Im using RHES 4 + lastest kernel 2.6 and the latest release version.

Whe Clients Can't Access My Ftp Acct
client can't access my site via the PW and ID that I give her for the FTP. I've tried creating two different accts and they both don't work for her. But when I give her my own private FTP info (which I don't recommend!), it works for her? Does anybody know where the disparity in her FTP settings might be coming into play that causes this?

How To Get A Copy Of Entire Site Without FTP Access
to get a copy of their entire site onto our servers. The problem is that they have no backups, and their current host has denied them access to their account. (It's a long story.) Rather then try and fight with their old host, I wonder if it's easier to just run some kind of "website copy" program and grab a copy of all pages and images, linked files, etc.. Their current website pages are served using an ASP database application, but the copy they need only has to work. It doesn't need to be dynamic, etc... as long as all the pages are there it's good.

How To Track Email That Is Not Working
how exactly email works. For example, I set my mx record to google apps in order to use google mail with my own domain. Thing is, I can sent from google mail now with my domain email address but cannot send. Furthermore, login to my website email bij www.domain.com/webmail is possible but receiving is impossible and even sending email from that place will not work. CPanel- Accounts Transferred, Email Not Working
I tranferred all my accounts from my old cpanel server to my new one, Updated the DNS records with my registrar to the new ips, unfortunately e-mail is not working, i used the trouble shooter and seems to trying to relay or something my mail to the old IP. I keep getting this error when trying to send to an account IPdoes not like recipient. Remote host said: [IP DOMAIN] is currently not 550-permitted to relay through this server. Mass Backup Accounts To Remote FTP With ROOT Access And CPanel/WH
I have a VPS and about 140 accounts on it. I've also got cPanel and WHM installed. Downloading Using Browser On Linux
I'm trying to download this 1 GB file on my Linux server CentOS. But its requiring me to enter a Captcha image which doesn't show up using Elinks or Lynx the two browser I tried. Wget was my first thing that I tried but that wouldnt work since its impossible to enter the captcha using wget command. So I need some help how should I download this to my server I'm on Slow DSL connection and it would take weeks to download 1 GB using my desktop and then reuploading it again to server using FTP.

Sending Email To Another Server When The Email Address Domain Is On This Server
I currently have a domain on Server 1 (Linux, Apache, Ubuntu, Matrix control panel). This server does not have any spam filter, so I have moved all the email accounts to Server 2 (Linux, Apache, Fedora Core, Plesk) which does have a brilliant spam filter; and have changed the DNS record for mail.domain.com to the IP address for Server 2. Emails are being successfully received on Server 2. On Server 1, when an email is sent through SMTP to an address at that domain, it does not send it to Server 2, it gets delivered to the hosting account for the domain on Server 1. So what I am guessing is happening is that Server 1 detects the domain has an account on the server, and instead of looking up the DNS info for that domain, just assumes it is on Server 1. What I need to do, is force Server 1 to send email for that domain to Server 2. Is this possible, and if so, how can it be achieved? If more info about the server is required for a solution please let me know and I'll provide what I can.

Dedicated Hosting For A Browser Game
i run a browser based game in (php/mysql/javascript) and i currently have noticing with the growing numbers of players that my shared hosting is not going to handle the load, obviously. i am not sure if this is the right place to ask but are there any hosting companies out there willing to negotiate a deal where they provide hosting for such a thing in return of advertising? we havent even began to advertise the game and expand it, it will reach thousands of players easely... we would need atleast 2 highend boxes to split up the database from the webserver.

Blocking A Country Using Browser Language
I got a list of IPs from the country i want to block from blockacountry.com and i added them to my .htaccess as I have no access to PF or IP tables firewall. I am concerned about the server load if I get too many requests from that country to access the webpage, I have been told of a better solution, blocking someone based on the browser language they use, for example for China that is "zh-CN" but I don't know how to implement this and I have not been able to find it through Google, help with this appreciated. Second thing, anyone knows what happens when someone attempts to access a webpage from a blocked IP? Do they get a "Page not found" or "your IP is blacklisted" message? If I block by browser language it would be good if the blocking message does not tell the user about this (Notice that I am aware that blocking by browser language is not a perfect solution).

That SSL Invalid Error Shown In A Browser
This is the error i'm getting after i installed my cert. i did the installation in plesk 9 and it asked for three files: 1. private key 2. certificate 3. CA bundle for the CA bundle i used the: intermediary_certificate1.cst, intermediary_certificate2.cst, & root_certificate.cst files and in that order. New VPS, Files In Httpdocs Inaccessible Via Browser
My client was rather forcibly moved to a VPS by their host (long story, involving inadequate PHP memory allocations). I've run sites on MediaTemple's VPS's without any issues. This one, via Network Solutions (not my pick) is driving me nuts. It uses Plesk and Virtuozzo, and is, I believe, running Redhat. I am able to FTP files into httpdocs, but when I try to pull them up via browser, I get 404's. Additionally, the default landing page persists, even though I deleted their index.html. I can SSH with root, but have thus far not been able to find my way to httpdocs via command line. Updated: scratch that. Found it. Files are there... I am accessing solely via IP, as I do not want to redirect the domain until the new site is up and running. Any thoughts on where I need to be looking for a solution? I'm not really a server person, though this is the first time I've encountered so much trouble. I do not foresee NS support being much help, per prior (recent) experience.

Hot Link Prevention And Browser Security
I recently initiated "Hot Link Prevention" on one of my web sites on my Dedicated server (via CPanel). It woks well in re-directing hotlinked images to a small image that says "Unauthorized Hotlink Image." This of course prevents other web sites from leaching my bandwidth. However, I have had a number of people complain that when they visit my forum, they don't get my site's images, but instead see the Unauthorized Hotlink Image. The common thread seems to be the people with the problem are using Security Software. In one case, a guy is using Norton Confidential. Another guy is using some Security software provided by his ISP. I'm guessing that this security software is somehow messing with the Referer in tehir browser and confusing my server into thinking the images are being hotlinked from some other site. Short of turning off Hot Link Prevention, does anyone have any suggestions to tell the folks...are there settings in their Security Software for example that will prevent the problem when they visit my site?
