Dedicated Host With GoDaddy Performance
May 8, 2008
We've been using GoDaddy as our dedicated host for about 2 years now. Throughout this time our performance with them has slowed. We have 2 eCommerce websites that receive moderate traffic but not outrageous and a few personal websites for ourselves that get roughly nil. Our entire server uses maybe 60GB of traffic a month as reported by plesk.
A fairly consistent problem we have however is page load time. Our server's CPU load reported by uptime is usually very low in the 0.05-0.15 range even during peak hours. So we doubt that the CPU is the problem. Additionally I have tried saving a static copy of our index page and uploading it to another part of the server and the load time between the static and dynamically generated page appears to be identical.
It appears as though our server allows at max 1-2 connections a time per IP address, or perhaps even globally, to receive data at one time. If I load our index page which is fairly image intensive it takes quite some time for the page to load in. It appears as though 1-2 images at a time are typically loading and that's about the limit. My ping time to the server is usually 50-60ms which really doesn't seem too bad to me, or perhaps I am wrong. If I hop over to a site like Google News however their front page contains probably 50 images and they seem to all load in a matter of moments and my ping to news.google.com is actually worse than my ping time to my own server.
For the lifting our server does I feel it's fairly beefy even given that it's a machine approaching 2 years old. It's a P4 3GHz w/ HT, 2GB RAM, 120GB RAID1 HD. The machine we had prior from another host was a Duron 1400 (iirc) w/ around 512MB RAM and 60GB HD and it didn't stumble on these tasks the way our server with GoDaddy has - again leading me to believe it's either some configuration option or is it just the quality of the GoDaddy network that is leading to these slow load times or page timeouts all together.
We recently purchased a new server with GoDaddy a few months ago and are preparing to migrate our current server to the new box - however given the worsening problems with load times we are simply considering moving elsewhere if it's not something that can be fixed with a config file or in Plesk.

We shifted one website based on Article Dashboard (its an article directory script coded in Zend) to a Godaddy VPS ($35 per month) from a shared hosting account with hostgator.
This VPS is really slow compared to hostgator account.
Can anyone tell what we should do?

with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?

I have already bought my package with godaddy, so I want to get started as quickly as possible. As I go to enter my blogs URL at godaddy so I can create it, it keeps telling my the selected domain is invalid?
I am entering it in the correct place under 'Domain not registered here'. I think it would have something to do with my settings at 1and1 but I am lost
Basically I registered the domain www.technetnews.com with 1and1 and want to use it to host my blog with godaddy

I have the hatchling plan on HostGator. Is there a PHP and MySQL open-source application where I can put up there to test its performance on running PHP and MySql applications? I want to see if there is any performance issue on this host before migrating a large ZenCart app to it.
What are people's experience on HostGator running PHP and MySQL?

I've been running a GoDaddy Windows server with YetAnotherForum software for my forums. It's dog slow... it takes at least 30 seconds to load a page, even longer if you are making a post.
So, I've set up one of my macs to run UPB software and I have it run 24/7. The forum works, the flatfile database runs great, and it works on my network of computers. But here's the problem. Nobody else can see it.
Sometimes the link just hangs, but mostly it just gives an error saying "The connection to the server has been reset". Is it because the server is connecting wirelessly?

I'm currently running a vBulletin message board with about 26,000 members. At any given time there are about 200 members actively posting.
Right now, we're on a dedicated server with Ilon hosting, however, my members are still complaining that the site runs VERY slowly when there are lots of members online.
To make matters worse, I want to launch a weekly podcast for them, so I'll need even MORE bandwidth.
GoDaddy.com is offering dedicated server accounts with high bandwidth limits (ie 2000 GB). Does anyone have any experience with them? ...

I was looking at Godaddy's grid servers and it says you can have unlimited concurrent connections:
[url]
With dedicated servers if you wanted to have 2 million concurrent users you would need hundreds of dedicated servers in a cluster, but Godaddy grid hosting can do this for $4.99/month:
[url]
Of course currently give users unlimited compute cycles so if they start charging it could increase the price but godaddy don't charge for ram. Of course if you needed more bandwidth you can buy more.
Sure, Godaddy grid hosting doesn't allow videos on your server(embed's allowed) but you wanted to have a website that was at the top of digg and worldwide media outlets reported it, Godady grid hosting would be great for this.
So i guess if i had to choose between a dedicated server and godaddy grid hosting for a forum, i would choose grid hosting because i can have unlimited users online at the same time and not have to worry about cpu load.

Ok, I'm a few lost about which dedicated server to choose.
First, I need 2 dedicated servers. These servers are only to download static content.
Downloadable files are small (50-400k).
I'll use lightweight server.
If there are too many user, I'll buy another server.
I search for excellent uptime, US server and fast download server.
I've visited some popular web hosting but if you know better, lets me know
1and1
Price (Root Server): $99
CPU: Single Core AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 2.2 GHz
RAM: 1 GB
HD: 2 x 160 GB
Bandwidth: 2,000 GB
Bandwidth Cap: 100 Mbps
GoDaddy
Price: $68
CPU: Celeron 2.0GHz
RAM: 1GB
HD: 1 x 120GB
Bandwidth: 500GB
Bandwidth Cap: 10-20 Mbps
Also, the price between 1and1 and GoDaddy is $31 but 1and1 give more on cpu, hd, bandwidth(4x), connection...
One of my question is 1and1 offers a average price for dedicated server or GoDaddy spends a part of money with Amanda, Candice and Danica?
Do you have some suggestion for dedicated server or web hosting?

I am a PHP/MySQL web developer and I want to take on the challenge of administering my own server.
I have Plesk installed on the server, and I imagine I will have command line access to the dedicated server.
What unknown challenges lie ahead for me? What are things to monitor to keep the site running efficiently? What should I be using to connect to the server? What tools are available to help me be more efficient?

I am using dreamhost host 3 of my web sites and 1 blog. Dreamhost is great, offers alot space and bandwidth.
but I think they are oversellling their space, sometimes it gets really slow. (overselling ? ok, I dont really know, but sometimes its really slow, and most my asian readers said need to refresh to load the page. I am wondering if theres a way to check if they are overselling or not.)
I am thinking about buying vps, even tho, I still got 5 month left with dreamhost.
I found 2 vps companies are highly recommanded on this forum, JaguarPC and LiquidWeb.
theres already a post compared both companies in terms of price and service. I say I will pick JagarPc, cuz, its basic plan just 20 USD, and htey got promotion now, its even cheaper. and basic Liquidweb vps plan is 60 bucks.
I am wondering why Jagarpc is so cheap , are they overselling? how can we check if they are overselling.
I found a few posts saying how good jaguarPc is. and they are not overselling, but those members just signed up this month, and only have 1-3 posts. I cannot really trust those new members.
Can someone share their experience with JaguarPC? compare JaguarPc performance and liquidweb performance. antoher question is switch from dreamhost to JaguarPC basic vPS plan, will performance gets better?
last question: VPS account allows 3 IP, 3ip = 3 domains? if not, how many domains can I have?

I am currently running a set of websites which is about 20 domains and as many databases. These are php4, mysql 5 websites.
/* rant mode on*/
I was hosted on 1and1 shared hosting but had to upgrade to their dedicated hosting due to constraint of 15 dbs max on shared.
The first problem arose when they said all the data has been transferred to dedicated (I have email proof) but after two weeks suddenly the darn databases vanished from my dedicated account. I checked with the hosting and they said the DBs need to be moved manually. I was pissed as hell but thankfully they came up with that morning's backup of the databases and nothing was lost.
The second problem that came my way was that Shared hosting had MySQL5 but the dedicated hosting only had MySQL4. This was pretty ironic as I was supposed to be upgrading.
Being weekend and all, I was in one hell of a tight spot. With client's and partner's breathing down, I moved the databases to a idle-sitting shared 1and1 hosts and got the sites running.
/* rant mode off*/
I am currently confused and scared as to how to choose my next hosting. I want a dedicated host because of the traffic on some of the more high profile domains. I would appreciate if someone suggested a very good host in £100 to £175 bracket, especially if you have been with him for a few years.

choosing an appropriate webhost solution. I'll be launching a site that will initially serve around 3000-4000 pageviews per day (say 2000-2500 uniques per day) but will go well over 10-15K eventually. Pretty small based on that metric. With just PHP (no dynamic content), my shared host has handled that fairly well for an existing site.
However, this site will need to track search queries...so, each page will do a simple MySQL lookup and either upgrade a count or do a small insert. Again, very simple stuff but not sure how this affect performance and CPU load. Still, I know my provider has pretty low thresholds on max db concurrent connections and they've loaded my server with lots of other sites recently. I'd rather not take a chance after launching.
Based on that simple operation, would you recommend moving to a managed VPS or possibly a semi-dedicated server? The traffic still sounds low but I'm just not sure of the mysql effect
If VPS, it seems like 512M memory should be the minimum for this setup or could I get away with something smaller, like 384M/256M?
I've read good things about MediaLayer's "application hosting" but it still sounds just like shared hosting.

I want a reliable network. I would prefer having a dedicated 10mbit rather then 100mbps shared.
Server requirements:
Reliable fast network.
2Gigs of Ram
WHM
I will be hosting online games on the server so the latency is very important. Server can be either in UK or USA.
Budget: 140USD per month. Not interested in servers with setup fees.

Support - 9/10
iweb really had a very good support i always get my request/tickets solved very quickly, i never got any negative answer from iweb.they are prompt in replies , but the reason why i gave 9 marks here out of 10 is because, they lack in live chat , live chat normally leaves in between.and that is what i don't like, its really annoying that we wait for 20,30 min and then they leave us without any notification.rest ticketing system is really good

what hosts are considered the best for virtual dedicated servers.
I know about the big names like GoDaddy and Yahoo, but who really has the best service and (importantly) the best price/value?
Heres what I need power-wise: Something that offers 2GB+ of RAM to me, 20GB+ Hard Drive space, and something thats running on Windows. I intend to run 3 e-commerce sites off this, so if you think I need more power please recommend it.

My big client is coming to sign up with us included managment. He will use thousand email accounts for his staff in 4 companies in Asia. Just website, download brochures/pdfs and thousand emails.
Should I host him on my server or get him his own VPS / Dedicated server. He said I do whatever host him on mine or seperate server as long as the server is up.
I never host thousand emails before, I do not know which server is suit for him. I find if I host him on my server, many of his staff will check emails in business hours and may be causing my customers' sites slow.
