Best Host For A Blog Site- Register With 1&1 And Host With Godaddy
May 27, 2008
with this being my first website goddady's website tonight or there blog site plan seem pretty good as I do not know how to build a professional looking website nor do I have a knowledge of HTML. Are there other hosts that offer better services such as these?
Also I would want to register with 1&1 as to register privately is free but with godaddy it costs around $15 and I've heard of godaddy stealing persons domains when they haven't even expired yet i.e. familyAlbum.com?
Is it allowed for instance to register my domain name with 1&1 and host my site with godaddy?
I've been running a GoDaddy Windows server with YetAnotherForum software for my forums. It's dog slow... it takes at least 30 seconds to load a page, even longer if you are making a post.
So, I've set up one of my macs to run UPB software and I have it run 24/7. The forum works, the flatfile database runs great, and it works on my network of computers. But here's the problem. Nobody else can see it.
Sometimes the link just hangs, but mostly it just gives an error saying "The connection to the server has been reset". Is it because the server is connecting wirelessly?
Is it a good idea to use different companies for registrar and web host?
and
Do web hosts add your site automatically to search engines? I ask because godaddy has something called Traffic Blazer and it says "Traffic Blazer helps get your Web site listed with Google®, Yahoo!®, MSN® and others." and they charge $27 for two years.. So I am wondering do you need this inorde for your website to be listed or something?
i know normally the user can put a flag in their .htaccess to do this, this does work for php5 because it is run using dso, but php4 is run using cgi and the one client that needs register globals also needs it for php4,
I recently had issues with HostGator and left them and now I am with MediaTemple... They are absolute crap. My site goes down with "sql errors" every day and it is pathetic.
What is the most cost effective host with the best speed and uptime for my blog?
I am an asp.net developer and want to host my blog. Which hosting provider will be ideal for asp.net blog? I have also seen that some of hosting providers provide blog hosting for blogengin.net or dasblog, should I go for them or should I go for the blog engine that I have built my self?
a while back I left some handmade comments in some computer related blogs not even close to spam but I put the keyword into the name field then....a few days later I found a .txt file named blogspam on my hosting account.. anybody had a similar experience...
I am hosting a Wordpress blog that currently uses 30GB of bandwidth per month. I want to introduce a forum as well so will probably need 50GB per month for now. But would like it expandable to 100GB in the future.
My requirements are:
No hidden CPU Limitations/No unreasonable resource usage restrictions. Equipped to handle large surges of traffic. No Overselling, able to use full allocation.
AND PROBABLY:
LiteSpeed - Does it really make a difference?
I have looked at MediaLayer, but they only provide upto 50GB transfer.
SecureServerTech looks good but uptime is only around 99%
At the moment Steadfast Networks looks the best.
My budget will be $20 for 50GB tranfer and $40 for 100GB of transfer, but this is not fixed and I would prefer quality over price.
I am looking for a cheap host that will allow adult orientated discussions and advertising. There wont be any actual porn on the site or at least not hosted on the account.
I was looking at a small orange and it looks like they allow light adult material but I was wondering if anyone had any suggestions.
So I signed up for their $5.95 blog package this week. And since then, my site [url]has been down 3 times because of 500 server error. It takes them about an hour to fix it each time.
Is there any shared host which can easily drive a wordpress blog with 100,000-150,000 unique visitors every month?
The blog in question has wp-supercache and is quite a bit tweaked and consumes roughly 30-50GB of bandwidth every month (with mod deflate enabled on server). My priorities are good uptime, fast servers and network (especially to India) and good customer support.
I have a blog that gets about 50,000 unique users a month and I'm looking for a host that would fit the bill. I'm using wordpress so that's obviously a requirement, but also I would like RoR support. Other than that I'm pretty open. My fear is just that I'll get relegated to a slow server or have my account suspended. My budget is really whatever I need to pay. I'd like to find something at $15 a month or under but I'm willing to pay up to $50 or more if need be.
I'm planning on growing the traffic more in the future so I'm not sure if I should just go for dedicated hosting now or wait. I've checked out hostgator and they seem to have good reviews and fit the bill well, I'm just not sure if they are suited for high traffic sites or not.
I currently have one blog on wordpress (a sub domain like name.wordpress.com).
I want to purchase a domain and also move it to a paid host. I am not really technically knowledgeable to do this. Have visited a few step by step guides but find them quite confusing.
guide to do the move/transfer of the blog, more for a beginner? And by the way is it simple to do or actually more for a professional?
I have already bought my package with godaddy, so I want to get started as quickly as possible. As I go to enter my blogs URL at godaddy so I can create it, it keeps telling my the selected domain is invalid?
I am entering it in the correct place under 'Domain not registered here'. I think it would have something to do with my settings at 1and1 but I am lost
Basically I registered the domain www.technetnews.com with 1and1 and want to use it to host my blog with godaddy
We've been using GoDaddy as our dedicated host for about 2 years now. Throughout this time our performance with them has slowed. We have 2 eCommerce websites that receive moderate traffic but not outrageous and a few personal websites for ourselves that get roughly nil. Our entire server uses maybe 60GB of traffic a month as reported by plesk.
A fairly consistent problem we have however is page load time. Our server's CPU load reported by uptime is usually very low in the 0.05-0.15 range even during peak hours. So we doubt that the CPU is the problem. Additionally I have tried saving a static copy of our index page and uploading it to another part of the server and the load time between the static and dynamically generated page appears to be identical.
It appears as though our server allows at max 1-2 connections a time per IP address, or perhaps even globally, to receive data at one time. If I load our index page which is fairly image intensive it takes quite some time for the page to load in. It appears as though 1-2 images at a time are typically loading and that's about the limit. My ping time to the server is usually 50-60ms which really doesn't seem too bad to me, or perhaps I am wrong. If I hop over to a site like Google News however their front page contains probably 50 images and they seem to all load in a matter of moments and my ping to news.google.com is actually worse than my ping time to my own server.
For the lifting our server does I feel it's fairly beefy even given that it's a machine approaching 2 years old. It's a P4 3GHz w/ HT, 2GB RAM, 120GB RAID1 HD. The machine we had prior from another host was a Duron 1400 (iirc) w/ around 512MB RAM and 60GB HD and it didn't stumble on these tasks the way our server with GoDaddy has - again leading me to believe it's either some configuration option or is it just the quality of the GoDaddy network that is leading to these slow load times or page timeouts all together.
We recently purchased a new server with GoDaddy a few months ago and are preparing to migrate our current server to the new box - however given the worsening problems with load times we are simply considering moving elsewhere if it's not something that can be fixed with a config file or in Plesk.
I've had this virtual server with Godaddy forever. I have about 52 websites on it. I was adding another and I walked through the registration process and forgot to click the save button. I then proceeded to the domain area of Godaddy to update the IP address. Now I can't add domains, delete dns settings, or update DNS settings without getting these kinds of messages:
Your URL: /dns/sync.do
Error details:

So! Godaddy has now had me upgrade my disk space to another 10gig, I've tunneled in with ssh and ran memhog to increase memory because they are suggesting that I'm too low on RAM and want me to purchase another server, I can't just ugrade. I've updated all the packages in my simple control panel. I finally got an email from them after begging for help, because $75 an hour is just too much for me!
This is what I got:
Dear Sir/Madam,
Thank you for contacting Server Support.
If this issue started after the modifications to the DNS of a domain, then it is likely that the DNS file or configuration has become corrupted. You can attempt to manually update or recreate the DNS file via SSH. Unfortunately, we are unable to provide assistance with the configuration of the server or modification of files. While you do have a lot of domain names added to the server, a backup of the content and reprovision of the server will reset the server to the default settings. However, this will remove all content and require that you re-add all domains and content once again.
I have backed up all my sites and databases, but to start all over again is a horrific thought. I can't imagine the nightmare.
I'm going to be extremely blunt and start off that although I'm not an unintelligent person, I'm very dumb when it comes to hosting and the lingo. So I would really appreciate the "Hosting for Dummies" version to find a good host
The closest I can show in what I am building with my partner is HERE (which claims to have had 90Million pageviews/month last year) Just basically a teen game and graphic site. It will be mostly flash games, php, various other scripts and forums.
I'm confident in saying they don't use shared hosting at least. Though what it is exactly I don't know. There is no way I'd get a dedicated server to begin with till we need it. I'm not sure what else a site like this requires (perhaps unlimited mySQL?) for a shared hosting plan. I was looking at HostMonster, Hostgator and Bluehost. I need good customer support for sure, I've had too many crap hosts in the past. I also need multiple domains (4-5)
In sum, does the shared hosting even matter at this point, or should I come back when we're in need of dedicated? I'm guessing cp usage will be the first to give out?
Hello all, I have a client who needs to host a casino site. Can anyone point me to a good place to host. The client is in the US, but the hosting would have to be outside the US.
i am now hosting my wallpaper site www.mastiwallpapers.com in ixwebhosting.com,how ever upto this time i got no problems, i need a backup assistance thats y i came, if anybody come with a nice plan with a reliable hosting without having server overload problems.
Because they already shut down one of my wallpaper site on grounds of server overloading.
I recently moved a site from one hosting company to another. I went to the registrar and pointed the DNS at the new nameservers, and set up a new ftp account to upload the site. The DNS seemed to resolve ok after a few hours, (in my browser I was seeing the new host's default home page) so I uploaded the site to the new host.
Today sometimes I see the new site and sometimes the old!
I'll be editing pages and uploading them by ftp, then suddenly I'll see a different directory structure on the remote server. Similarly I'll refresh my browser while looking at the new site and... Hey! I'm seeing the page on the old site!
I've cleared the browser cache on my machine btw.
My guess is that either a server somewhere in the path (at my local service provider?) is throwing out old cached versions of the page, perhaps when it is busy, or that not all the nameserver/dns records have updated.
Can some one suggesst CGI free host site with LWP, as my company has blocked some site & I need to refer that so will lwp to pull that page & I can view the page which is blocked
so can any one help me knowing which are good free lwp hosts ad free preferred, my load will be only 10mb per day max
also is this possible in some ASp host? if some one knows
I'm a university designer trying to find hosting for a video textbook. I have about 330MB of videos framed in a single swf/html/js page.
Our course is about 300 students, and we'd expect the site to be largely dormant except for traffic spikes right before exams, when everyone will want to access the material.
We know nothing about linux images or server maintenance or anything required to use an unmanaged VPS. I'm mostly just concerned about having enough bandwidth not to upset ToS, but I'm unsure of what this actually translates to. Any hosting advice would be extremely appreciated, from specs we should look for to specific hosts. We're lost fishies!
I have plans os doing a NSFW site very soon and am trying to gather as much information about all aspects of what it takes before getting this project off the ground. I know a fair bit of what it will take and I have a web designer set up, ect but I need help picking a web host. I really dont know much about what I am looking for and what I expect the site to do (traffic wise) because it will be my first site. It is going to have videos hosted from other sites but maybe eventually in the future I may host some myself. For the time being, I need to know what do I need in a good host to handle a page that basically just has videos on it. I'm leaning towards Lunar Pages as I have some friends that use them and are satisfied but dont know what I would really need as far as basic hosting, VPS, dedicated servers ect. This part is very new to me! Can anyone give me some advice as to what I should be looking for and and recommendations? I plan on hosting from a hosting company and getting a domain from a domain registrar to keep the seperate.
I woke up this morning to find I wasn't able to access my domain based email or my website. So I figured I would check with my host, (www.hostpc.com), and I was unable to access them, also.
I had someone else from a remote location and PC check and they can access hostpc as well as my website.
I want to buy a domain from Godaddy.com and host on a free webhost, that works really great. But I don't wanna get this problem when you visit the forum ->>> mydomain.com, I want it like this ->>> mydomain.com/forum/ and forum/index.php and all that stuff, so you can visit a thread directly.
But in my experiences before, I just got the mydomain.com, even if I visited the forum or an another page. Should I put the DNS or what to get the godaddy domain to work fine with the free webhost?
