I'm rather new to Windows dedicated servers and would like to know which Anti Virus to use for a Windows dedicated server?
What other security measures do I need to take on the windows server as well?
Been hosting with Linux servers for years, one would almost expect that a security on a Windows server is "second nature", but I have some doubts about the security of these servers. We'll be using Windows 2003 standard & Windows 2003 Web edition.
First of all, I am from Australia. Some people might know here dedicated servers cost a lot coz bandwidth is extremely expensive. I am hiring a box to put dedicated game servers on them (Counter Strike Source). I am looking for a Windows Firewall and Anti Virus. I am also wondering what version of Windows 2003 server should I get. Do I need to get real time protection and email scanner? And also, is it wise to download and browse TRUSTED sites on the server?
I'm running Windows Server 2003 and I use Symantec End Point Protection v11. I'm not satisfied with it nor am I confident it is the best virus protection software.
What do you suggest for the best protection of a Windows 2003 server?
Is antivirus necessary in Windows Server with IIS6? I am hosting several web pages and web applications(ASP.NET) on two servers for three years, never have any problem with viruses.
What antivirus would you suggest to use? I have tried AVG and NOD and they are very massive and slow down web applications.
I have been a user of sitepoint for quite a while now. I am developing software applications at present and keep bumping my head into the same old question.
Which is better, Linux or Windows servers. (Probably a question which depends on what they are used for of course.) In this case, they would be used to store a database for the application and therefore communicate with it etc.
The choice is, do I develop the application in .net and use windows or do I go down the PHP route and use Linux.
This is the options that have been explained to me, of course I am not a developer myself so am just hearing the advice I am told.
I'm writing a .Net app using SQL server, and so I'm looking for a Windows server hosting. Do they provide things like Remote Desktop and what not? Because on some of my tables, I have to be able to login and give permissions to users and things of that sort.
This question, and many questions relating to this I am sure must have reasoning behind it. It basicly relates down to the following;
Why do game servers use up more CPU on Linux, opposed to Windows?
Some people say it doesnt, and that is true for some games, but most games I have found, the CPU usage of the game on a Linux based server is far higher.
Just as an example, most Steam games.
I really would like to know why, and how it could be reduced. What are some things I can install, or configure to make game servers run more smoothly or use less CPU on Linux?
If anyone has any ideas & thoughts related to this, please let me/us know, for im sure this is beneficial to all.
Does anyone know if running centOS 5.2 as a host OS on a dedicated server would be able to run both Linux and Windows VPS servers using virtuozzo? on their video it says you can however i cant find where/how to install a windows server 2003 template.
I have tried copy files from Linux server to Windows Server using WinSCP3 and it was so fast.
I am not sure who to copy files as well from Windows to Windows with same speed. I tried to use RDC between the Windows Servers and share one drive. But it wasn't fast as WinSCP3.
The minimum requirements that I am seeking for is that it must be a Windows 2000 or Windows XP machine with at least 1024 MB of DDR PC3200 RAM and at least a single-core 2 GHz CPU whether it be AMD or Intel (something suitable for a gameserver and webserver combo), 40GB SATA/RAID Harddrive, and a Full Duplex 100 Mbit port with plenty of bandwidth to run a 32-Player 66tic CSS Server.
The price range that I seek is between $60 to $120 per month.
We are in need of one windows servers with windows web or standard edition with atleast 5 RDP logins, i came to know from company that we have to pay for additional logins, the number of logins provided will be only 2 per server, is it true.
Other company says that we can create any number of user inside the server and access the server via RDP

If you met any problems with downloading from Odin servers (autoinstall.plesk.com or autoinstall-win.pp.parallels.com) - please describe this problem briefly and specify geographic location (country, city) of your Plesk server.
But my Plesk's license allows to use MS SQL Servers.
This began to happen after upgrading Plesk 11 to 12.
In psa Database, in DatabaseServers table it appears. If I delete and add back into Plesk, it shows me no error, but neither added to the database servers.
