View 0 RepliesI have two VPS with two different Datacenters. I am running my website on one of the VPS which has Plesk Panel 11.5 installed on it. Since my second server is not in use, I would like to use it as a Secondary DNS Server for redundancy. I know this can be done with Plesk Expand. But, I am not in a position to invest further as I just run 4 domains on my main server. I was looking at installing some free control panel on my secondary VPS and set it up as a Secondary DNS Server if possible. But, I could not find any Guides on setting this up.
How I can do this? I see that we have an option in Plesk - 'Switch DNS Service mode' which can be used to either setup my first server as a Secondary or Primary. I have installed Webmin/Virtualmin on the second server, but how to set this up perfectly. I can reinstall the 2nd Server if required, but not my first one with Plesk.
I am having a problem setting mails on Thunderbird.i did exactly as you said in the documentation but still receive an error for sending an email (incoming email is good).i used full email address as username.domainname.tld as Incoming/Outgoing server address.

Trying to set Default Site for a Dedicated IP Address.
I go to Subscription, then to domain > Change Hosting Settings, select dedicated IP address and OK, works fine. Site goes to Default Plesk Page.
Go to Tools & Settings, IP Addresses > Select the dedicated IP address I set above. Change Default Site to site above. Click Ok.
I get the error message above and nothing changes.
I looked on my IIS Server and MailEnable's Webmail is installed under the Default Website.
I have another Dedicated IP on this server and it has a default site on it working properly, but it was set up on the old site and it was configured as part of the Migration using Migration Manager.
I tried deleting the IP address and adding it back in. That didn't change anything. I also tried running: "%plesk_bin%websrvmng.exe" –reconfigure-webmail since that came up under someone else's issue when searching the web and that .exe is what's throwing the error.
If you met any problems with downloading from Odin servers (autoinstall.plesk.com or autoinstall-win.pp.parallels.com) - please describe this problem briefly and specify geographic location (country, city) of your Plesk server.

But my Plesk's license allows to use MS SQL Servers.
This began to happen after upgrading Plesk 11 to 12.
In psa Database, in DatabaseServers table it appears. If I delete and add back into Plesk, it shows me no error, but neither added to the database servers.
I'm looking for information about having EXTERNAL ms-sql 2008/2012 servers with MS-SQL Web Edition license connected to one or more Plesk servers.
We don't want to use the Express version coming with Plesk but use MS-SQL 2008 & 2012 (both accessible by clients if possible), on individual dedicated machines for SQL only.Of course we'd like to have all current functionality coming with Plesk Power Panel inc. backup/restore options from within Plesk.
Is there a simple tutorial on how to setup name servers within WHM? We have 4 IP's from the data center and thought to use 2 to run name servers. The scenario is we are moving a few websites over to this box and want to use the same name servers (ns1.domain.com and ns2.domain.com) but have it associated with the 2 new IP addresses. Can someone provide some info?

I've got a Netscreen 5GT firewall.
I've got Dotnetpanel
I've got the SmarterTools bundle
Whats the best way to set this up?
I put DNS, Email, Ticketing, Statistics and Dotnetpanel on Server #1
I put SQL 2005 on Server #2
I put the firewall in front with only 1 public IP
I've directed Port 80, 53, 21, 443 to Server #1 LAN IP
1. What do I do with server #3? How do I host websites with it if it doesn't have a public IP and port 80 is pointed at Server #1?
2. Is it common practice to connect web servers directly to the internet with a public address and no firewall or does everyone forward public ip's through a firewall?

to setup my nameservers for my vps, it is using lxadmin, and the help is not very good.
I would submit a ticket, but I figure this is something that they should not have to help me with.
So I have setup a dns template, and setup the name servers for this template to ns1.mydomain and ns2.mydomain
But I do not see anywhere to assign ns1.mydomain and ns2.mydomain ips.
Anybody with experience with lxadmin,
I am doing a project with my home servers and I am trying to use dyndns.com for a domain name.
Right now I got srv1.dnsdojo.com and I configured that into my linksys router. Now I got a little confused. Do I configure that domain name into my server?
Note:
I am using it because I got a dynamic IP
Im just wondering if anyone out there knows of any good books, etc for building webservers from start to finish.
What i want to know is what hardware, what OS is best, etc.
How to configure ports, etc.
I am able to do a VPN connection to the Windows XP VPN server.
But however i cannot access the remote VPN computers.
For some reason, every time I setup the SSL cert on my Windows box, I receive a error 400 when I try to visit the site. When I take the SSL cert out then the site loads again. Anyone know what the problem is here?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a dedicated server running windows web edition. What is the easiest way to set up a VPN server on this machine so that I can log in to it from my home connection and route all my traffic through my server.
I've found a few guides for setting this up on linux boxes, but not with windows.
I created a (dv) account with Media Temple and my starting domain name becomes my name servers... Now they setup on there DNS server a reverse lookup for mydomain.com, but not for any of the domain names which go under it.
They won't setup a reverse lookup for any of your sub domains, unless they have a dedicated IP address, which costs $1.00 per month per IP address.
So what this means is say one of your sub-domains sends an email to myclient.com and it so happens that myclient.com like many other domains does a reverse lookup on incoming emails to verify its not spam, but since the reverse lookup doesn't exist, your sub domain gets an error message saying the email can't be delivered.
I emailed them and there first response was ....
I am currently with MediaTemple and my hostname is automatcially as.mydomain.com, they have told me that the as is deprecated now and I can chose what to put for the hostname... Do I just put www is that how it works?

View 2 Replies View RelatedI've searched the web to set up ssl on 1 domain of 2 installed op 1 ip address. It seems easy: setup virtual hosts, turn ssl on and point to your certificates.
I'm completely lost. I setup the certificate from geotrust in plesk panel 11.5 as described in the manual but that didn't work, apparently because i have 2 domains and 1 ip.
So i started looking to adapt my vhost settings to use sni. First problem: i can't find the setting of the virtual host.
Secondly where can i find the path to the .key and .crt files.
How i can install a ssl certificate on one of the two domains sharing 1 ip.
I'm rather new to Windows dedicated servers and would like to know which Anti Virus to use for a Windows dedicated server?
What other security measures do I need to take on the windows server as well?
Been hosting with Linux servers for years, one would almost expect that a security on a Windows server is "second nature", but I have some doubts about the security of these servers. We'll be using Windows 2003 standard & Windows 2003 Web edition.
Who has them and who's good at it?
I have a client asking about a managed Windows server.
I have been a user of sitepoint for quite a while now. I am developing software applications at present and keep bumping my head into the same old question.
Which is better, Linux or Windows servers. (Probably a question which depends on what they are used for of course.) In this case, they would be used to store a database for the application and therefore communicate with it etc.
The choice is, do I develop the application in .net and use windows or do I go down the PHP route and use Linux.
This is the options that have been explained to me, of course I am not a developer myself so am just hearing the advice I am told.
I've been watching Netcraft for a while, and it seems like windows keeps gaining ground on Linux

How long to your think this trend will continue?
I'm writing a .Net app using SQL server, and so I'm looking for a Windows server hosting. Do they provide things like Remote Desktop and what not? Because on some of my tables, I have to be able to login and give permissions to users and things of that sort.

I am having issues setting up CloudFlare on out PPA system. I have is setup under Hosted Applications. I have setup a Resource for CloudClare and added it to the service templates. When i go into a clients Control Panel to install the app, I get a couple different errors. When i try to use a previously setup administrator for the subscription, which is listed under "Grant administrative access to existing user," I get the following error:
"Error: Installation of CloudFlare For PA failed. invalid values passed for settings of application resource; details for setting with id 'admin_username': The "CloudFlare username" setting value 'xxxxx' is already in use. Please provide unique value." Is this because I am logged in as the user?
When I create a login under "Use administrative credentials not connected to any particular user," I get the following error: "Error: Installation of CloudFlare For PA failed. Invalid structured output returned by script: Failed to parse structured output. Structured output: '<output xmlns= URL.... WARNING: A connectivity error occurred while contacting the service. I do get an email from CoudFlare with the setup instructions for the new account.Under the PPA control panel, I am using the IP address for the Management Node in the "POA API IP" field. Is this correct, or should I have entered localhost?I am running 11.5 Update 8, and CloudFlare For PA (3.0.2-18).Setup instructions for Plesk or POA does not quite cover everything for a PPA installation.
This question, and many questions relating to this I am sure must have reasoning behind it. It basicly relates down to the following;
Why do game servers use up more CPU on Linux, opposed to Windows?
Some people say it doesnt, and that is true for some games, but most games I have found, the CPU usage of the game on a Linux based server is far higher.
Just as an example, most Steam games.
I really would like to know why, and how it could be reduced. What are some things I can install, or configure to make game servers run more smoothly or use less CPU on Linux?
If anyone has any ideas & thoughts related to this, please let me/us know, for im sure this is beneficial to all.
Just to add in, I use CentOS 4.6 Final.
