I'm looking to buy a dedicated server from 1and1.co.uk - there features are great, but i hear so many bad things about customer service, I wondered what your experiences are before i purchase:
Details:
For £69 inc VAT (A Month)
Free FTP backup space – 80 GB
AMD Athlon 64 3,000+
1,024 MB DDR RAM
2x80 GB hard drive (RAID1)
Fedora Core
Firewall
Plesk 8 (100 domains)
Unlimted 100 MBit Bandwidth (Wow)
24x7 Telephone Support (Sceptical About this)
I have been with 1&1 for over three years now and I have never seen our dedicated server go down. Their network is first-class and I have actually been able to get transfer rates of over 10MB/sec on our 100Mbps port.
I'm in the market for a colo host now because our current hardware is getting old and the CPU is really loaded down, but in my search I realized how many bad comments there are and how few good comments there are about hosts. Therefore, I just wanted to try and make the reviews more equitable before I leave this host (and possible get ripped off at my next one
I'm looking fro free antivirus software for our centos server.
Is there anything available out there except of CLAM ?
We need to get another dedicated server in Germany for a video application (so low latency and high-quality connectivity are crucial). Our current server is hosted with NetDirekt in Frankfurt -- our first year with them has been very good. However I want the next server located in a different city, for redundancy.
My considerations:
- English-speaking sales & support
- Highly reliable network
- Low latency to Germany users
Do you have any recommendations among the following short-list of providers?
Germany:
- plusserver.de
- probe-networks.de
- hosteurope.de
Amsterdam:
- eurovps.com
- leaseweb.com
Is Amsterdam a suitable location if I'm serving German end-users? Latency matters a lot... so if a German datacenter saves 20ms of latency, that's important.
Do you know of any other comparable providers -- especially ones that do not require a 12-month contract?
I'm rather new to Windows dedicated servers and would like to know which Anti Virus to use for a Windows dedicated server?
What other security measures do I need to take on the windows server as well?
Been hosting with Linux servers for years, one would almost expect that a security on a Windows server is "second nature", but I have some doubts about the security of these servers. We'll be using Windows 2003 standard & Windows 2003 Web edition.
I did a free -m in my server and saw that i only have 30MB of free RAM space. Is this good enough?

i have just upgrade to 2GB of RAM and my site is an active flash and video site. (more than 4000unique per day)
I heard a lot about 110mb and registered with them.My experience was very bad.I even paid for upgrades, but the uptime was very bad. Most of the time my site was down.

View 1 Replies View RelatedOther then webmin and virtualmin are there any other decent free panels out there?
I was looking at some of the pricing on some of the panels out there and their pricing models. Direct Admin seems to be the cheapest with 9 dollars a month (if you qualify that is.) Is that pretty much as low as it will get? I would think there might be some that are cheaper then that depending on the bulk size and others.
I have developed a small application that I want to put somewhere online so that people can download it and use it for free. I'm not much into free hosting so maybe some of you could recommend a good solution. This will be a 2-3 MB download but I don't think there will be any huge traffic. I know sourceforge.net offers hosting for open source software but I don't know yet if I want to make it open source. Preferrably, I would like a web host with a decent likelihood that my address will not change, no overintrusive ads and somewhat reliable. Or perhaps there are dedicated sites for hosting free programs that would better suit my needs?

View 13 Replies View Relatedwhen trying to add several useraccounts to our mail domain using the cli, we have a problem enabling the antivirus. We add user with the following CLI command, the antivirus flag is set. /usr/local/psa/bin/mail --create mail@mail.box -mailbox true -antivirus inout -passwd yourpassword -cp-access true
But when we got to the web interface and select the newly created user, the antivirus is still disabled for him and has to be enabled manually. Is this a known problem? Or is there any other way to automatically enable antivirus than using the "-antivirus" flag? Because we 're talking about more than 100 users it would take a lot of time enabling the AV manually for each of them.We 're running 12.0.18 Update Nr. 29

Some information about my forum:
I run a VBulletin forum with - 575,614 post, 14,369 members and 2.9 million page views per month. On average there are 300 - 400 people on the site.
The server right now is a Linux CentOS VPS with 1.1 gigs of memory. The hosting provider keeps telling me that I need a dedicated server.
Question # 1 - In your opinion - do you think its time for a dedicated server?
The server I am looking at has these stats:
E8300
2 GB RAM
250GB HD
cPanel
Management
The price I was given is pretty good. So the offer is going to be hard to pass up.
Question # 2 - Has anyone here used Future Hosting for their dedicated server solution?
I am looking for webhosts providing free dedicated (not shared) SSL certificates alongwith dedicated IP.
Currently I found only dotable.com and other companies in the UK2 group providing such a package. Is there any other good webhost providing free SSL certificates.
My budget is maximum $10 per month.
Only CPanel hosts are preferred and access to WHM would be a definite plus though not mandatory.
i just want to know hosting company any hosting company can offer free dedicated IP?
