My server currently has some problems with DNS/mail, which i can't seem to fix myself. My colocation host offered to help me by giving him root access, but i don't know him very well yet. Is there some kind of script/logtool so i can track everything he did on the server? I don't want him snooping around through my webfiles and databases...
I am having trouble finding a good sysadmin for my needs. Has anyone else been in a similar situation? Does anyone have any advice on how to find somebody like this?
SITUATION: I am having trouble finding a reliable RH sysadmin. I have a handful of clustered HA setups for customers (6+ servers & load-balancers) and a number of single-server dedicated hosting customers. I do a lot of the work myself. The additional sysadmin usually only has a small amount of actual worked hours per month, dependent on new installs. But, they need to be reliable, available, and familiar with the complexities of the setups.
From what I have seen, some sort of server management company wouldn't be able to be familiar with the setups well enough to not regularly make errors or modify setups correctly due to the amount of clients they have.
So one of the sites on our box was compromised earlier today.
We've shut it down for now and contacted our sysadmin to help research the problem. Not sure if he will be able to really help much as he's only done updates and such in the past.
Any idea of quality sysadmins who might be able to investigate the box and the site?
/dev/sda1 is mounted to / on my dedicated server, however, it is 100% full and cPanel is having problems with it. Is there a way I can clean out some files?
Additionally, I cannot SSH into the server since sshd keeps failing. Anyone know what I can do?
I'm sure /dev/sda1 isn't usually mounted to / but who knows.
I am trying to customize the knoppix CD so that the SSH server can be started while the system has been booted up. I've tried to install the service and setup the appropriate run level (update-rc.d) but still the SSH daemon couldn't be started up automatically. I had to start it up manually while the system is booted up. I have an idea is to put the startup command in the /etc/rc.local, but not sure if that would work, but I prefer to start it up from the run-level. And what about the /etc/inittab, any idea on that?
Here I got a sshd issue, which confused me a lot. I just purchased a dedi yesterday.
cPanel11+WHM panel, Fedora7 system. When I use top -c to check the system, most of the times I would see four or five sshd processes "sshd: unknown [priv]" are running, and about 5 minutes later they will disappear.
I have a friend who usually manages my server, but he's been hard to contact, and these forums are officially my best friend
I figured out how to change the sshd config, and restarting the service to change the port. My friend installed a firewall due to ddos attacks, and I think i need to manually unblock the port that I would like to be the new sshd port. How can I find out what firewall I'm running, and where can I add a new port to the allow list?
With my sshd installation, I have password authentication disabled, and only accept key-based auth. What I want to do is, make sshd lie about it's accepted authentication methods, or even make up a few to confuse anyone who's trying to connect. For example,
the matter is kind of important and i dont want to discuss it in this thread, but i could not find a contact e-mail on the website. only phone numbers. so I know eurovps people are on this site, can one of them pm me and we can get in contact?

how to contact Teleglobe? I have sent a message to hostmaster@teleglobe.net already, waiting if someone answers. Their node in Hongkong is working like crazy. Traceroute from the US to my country shows up to 3800ms, meanwhile it's around 250-300ms usually

but if i press refresh it does the job, some of the content inside work but some does and it will give you that text again. Anyone suggest what is the reason for this? My other friend who are hosted with dreamhost are fine but accept me. maybe it's on a differnet server that's why but if my site is down i'm expecting to lose around 300usd .
Does anyone have specific contact information for apple.com or mac.com postmasters? I've tried the standard postmaster/hostmaster addresses at both domains, with no response/autoresponders, etc. One of the IPs in our servers seems to be blocked, but can't find anywhere how to contact their postmaster.
Does, by chance, a SteadCom representative visit this forum?
The problem: I can't receive a new password to the client area (no email is sent from SteadCom after I use 'forgot password' feature), the VDS I had is I suppose suspended and I have no means neither to access the user cpanel to pay/renew, nor to use live talk with support - the link on the site does nothing.
We have been dealing exclusively with Dell, but are looking into HP as well now. How aggresive can they be in their pricing? At what price volume will they start to be very aggresive?
Does anybody has a good HP sales contact that they can share? Looking for 50-100 of their lower end server (DL120).
Is anybody able to get me in touch with Poundhost ? We can't seem to log on to the customer portal - and nobody are answering the phones there. Our server has been down for almost an hour now - I need somebody done immediately.
