Cannot SSH Into The Server Since Sshd Keeps Failing
Apr 17, 2009/dev/sda1 is mounted to / on my dedicated server, however, it is 100% full and cPanel is having problems with it. Is there a way I can clean out some files?
Additionally, I cannot SSH into the server since sshd keeps failing. Anyone know what I can do?
I'm sure /dev/sda1 isn't usually mounted to / but who knows.
Making SSHD Up In Knoppix
Jun 1, 2009I am trying to customize the knoppix CD so that the SSH server can be started while the system has been booted up. I've tried to install the service and setup the appropriate run level (update-rc.d) but still the SSH daemon couldn't be started up automatically. I had to start it up manually while the system is booted up. I have an idea is to put the startup command in the /etc/rc.local, but not sure if that would work, but I prefer to start it up from the run-level. And what about the /etc/inittab, any idea on that?

CPanel Dedicated Server Sshd
Dec 20, 2007Here I got a sshd issue, which confused me a lot. I just purchased a dedi yesterday.
cPanel11+WHM panel, Fedora7 system. When I use top -c to check the system, most of the times I would see four or five sshd processes "sshd: unknown [priv]" are running, and about 5 minutes later they will disappear.

Changing SSHd Port With Firewall Installed

I figured out how to change the sshd config, and restarting the service to change the port. My friend installed a firewall due to ddos attacks, and I think i need to manually unblock the port that I would like to be the new sshd port. How can I find out what firewall I'm running, and where can I add a new port to the allow list?

May 16, 2008With my sshd installation, I have password authentication disabled, and only accept key-based auth. What I want to do is, make sshd lie about it's accepted authentication methods, or even make up a few to confuse anyone who's trying to connect. For example,

May 28, 2009I've ordered dedicated sever the AMD4200 at vpsbyte last Thursday, exactly a week ago, but status on my client page is still pending, during a whole week i sent 4 emails with 1 response - a promise to set up server in Monday, and that's 3 days ago. Gee i am so pissed off i had to set my project to idle and loose money. Their website is totally outdated to 2008 and buggy as hell, that kayako support thing doesn't work at all, general support is offline 24h, MSN is offline, 1h response means maybe 1 week response if lucky.I don't really grow my money in trees and i really need superfast connection to my dedicated server for reasonable price...
I feel robbed, should i report them to authorities for scam? or they are just out of business?
Ftp Dead After Updating Vps By Yum
Feb 10, 2009i just installed rpmforge repo and updated the my vps everything went fine now every thing is fine exept ftp i have tried both pure-ftp and pro-ftp both are not workingh the port 21 is used by xinetd i am not able to find out what to due the ftp installs successfully but after installations is done it give Failed on restarting stopping or starting
WHat can i do to remove this i used the status command to
/etc/init.d/pureftpd status
Pureftpd is dead

Westnic Are Dead
Mar 23, 2008I purchased a plan in westnic.net almost two weeks ago and I haven't received my login/password until now. I kept sending them e-mail using their forms or direct e-mail to sales or support. Nothing. They sent me a temp login/pass that stopped working after few hours and they said that I should received my account details in few hours. I received nothing.
What should I do now? I really need webspace to start working. What do you guys suggest, should I find another webhost service or what?

Apr 26, 2007i had a server kernal panic on me any other recomendations then below on what to do to try get this working? these have all been tried by my provider they want to know what to try next
1) Ran memtest86, one of the sticks gave a 6 errors - replaced
2) Disabled ACPI from BIOS and tried booting - no go
3) Tried booting into single user mode with ACPI disabled - no go
4) Tried booting into single user mode with ACPI enabled - no go
5) Re-enabled ACPI and tried to boot into other kernels - LinuxOLD isn't working
The Vps Is Locked By Another User

Locked Out Of SSH .. Firewall
May 25, 2008Today i got home from work to find none of my websites responding. When i ping the server i get a response as normal so i know its online. It seems the firewall iptables is blocking all incoming access to the server. When trying to connect to ssh nothing happens (just a blank black screen) heres a screenshot: [url]
I rang my datacenter but no one is there as its sunday evening.
Is there anyway i can get into the server to turn off the firewall?
Locked Out Of Server
Apr 15, 2008Have a new client who's locked themselves out of their web server. Basically they've forgotten their password. Sadly there's no backup admin account.
It's a Dell PE1950 running Win2K3 R2 (SP2). Standalone server (non-domain). OS is in RAID-1 on a PERC 5i card.
I've attempted to use BartPE and UBCD with various instruction sets I've found online regarding PERC controllers, but I can't actually get either of them to boot (just hangs at the 'loading PE' screen with the bar).
I've tried using
I'm thinking I'm screwing up the driver part somehow, as the discs otherwise boot on standard, non-RAID IDE systems. I'm using Win2K3 R2 media for my base package.

Feb 14, 2007When account is accessed via Outlook an error is generated saying "mailbox is temp unavaliable because another email message is being delivered or another application is accessing it. The server responded: -ERR Timeout while obtaining a lock on /home/user/mail/domain.com/emailuser/inbox"
When attempt to login using HORDE I just cycle through logging in, going from login and trying to get to the In box and timing out as content fails to complete
I tried searching the forums for this, nothing. Anyone know what to do about this?
Dead Hard Drive
Sep 30, 2008I have never had a hard drive fail on me, i dont think the I/O on my servers would ever warrant it but im looking to ask people that have had a hard drive die one them the following:
1. Were you ever cautious before your hard drive failure or did you lose data and if you did lose data, did it make you buck up your ideas (i.e do you now have a solid backup plan or do you still play maverick)
2. If you have had a hard drive failure, has it made you, do you think, overly-cautious?
3. Has a hard-drive failure ever swayed you towards the more expensive raptor drives? and if so, why?

Apr 24, 2008I have a customer that currently is paying a nice chunk of money every month for WebsitePros.com (one of those do it yourself sites).
Domain is registered by them and they are claiming if we want to cancel and get access to the domain name we have to pay a $100 fee(to gain access to the domain name).

Dec 17, 2008This has happened twice now. I have my wait_timeout variable set to 60 seconds, but occasionally my database gets overloaded with "locked" queries. Here's an example of my processlist:

This continues on with locked queries all the way up to my limit of 450 connections, then the whole server goes down. Note the time spent processing these queries, 35483 seconds and counting! Surely the wait_timeout is supposed to prevent this from happening?!
Also, this appears to start with queries in the State "statistics". Then the State for the following queries becomes "locked". Does anyone know what these mean? Can I get them to timeout normally? Queries which never timeout are guaranteed to bring your server down eventually, surely this is not the desired behaviour.
Trying To Figure Out Why A System Locked Up And Hung
Mar 2, 2008I had to bump a server we have over at the planet, but I cannot seem to determine the cause of its unresponsiveness (everything down to even simple ping). I checked APF logs and it didn't show anything except its normal periodic refresh of rules and such. I also see an selinux warning about proftpd trying to get to proftpd.conf and I saw something about selinux blocking mysql from using mysql.sock as well - I temporarily disabled SELINUX all together (it was in targeted mode). In the log files, it did log the fact though that it received SIGTERM and was going to runlevel 0, so it wasn't completely dead. I've gone through quite a few other logs and have come up empty handed. Is there anything else I can do? I want to get to the bottom of this.
