Stay Away From HostGator, My 12 Days Review

Apr 12, 2008

I have been customer with HostGator for almost two weeks and my experience has been TERRIBLE, AWFUL etc.

The server I am being hosted on is overloaded daily to the point when my SSH times out and my website is unaccessible. I have been told that the customers who overuse their resources have been removed and that it should work fine - surprisingly, it does not.

Days ago I have been also assured, by the live support rep, that load averages will stay around 2s or 3s after the server will be filled as the accounts were still being added. That is not happening even though there are no accounts being added anymore to the server (as I was told few days later).

As I am writing this, the load averages are: 121.74, 66.47, 49.90

The overload has been causing problems DAILY.

Stay Away From Hostgator

Apr 21, 2008

I went with HostGator based on the number of positive reviews I saw on this site. However I think I need to warn people to stay away.

I am on hostgator server #414. The server is so overloaded that it often has server loads >20. Currently its server load is in the 40's and the administrative cpanel is unusable. My site has been down twice in the past month (due to excessive loads crashing the server).

When contacted, their response is always "we'll boot the person causing these excessive server loads." This is fine, expect I shouldn't have to be the one policing their servers and letting them know that there is a problem.

I'd advise everyone to go with a host (even one that is a bit more expensive, say in the $10-20 range) that doesn't oversell. I know I wish I did. If anyone has recommendations for such a host feel free to send them my way.

Stay Away :: Midphase Review

Apr 5, 2008

I have been hosting with An hosting / Midphase for almost 5 months. I am really disappointed with service quality. Here is my honest review:

My Background

* Four years hosting experience with other hosting companies
* 9 years experience as consultant in IT
* I have almost 200 websites and have 3-8 employees working for my websites in the last 6 months.
* I generally keep the websites in shared hosting accounts to minimize downtime.

Account:

I signed up for cheap hosting around thanksgiving time last year. It is something like 4.95 or 5.95 USD per month. I have 40 subaccounts (domains) an huge amount of disk and bandwidth. I just use 2-3% of available resources (disk and bandwidth).

Review

I am very disappointed with the service at midphase. Here are the details:

Technical Support:

First two months were fine. Once midphase was acquired by another hosting firm located in Europe, service quality declined rapidly. Support requests were addressed in 4-5 hours in the first two months. Later, they started to respond slowly.

Most of the time, I felt that my tickets are never read. It was like a robot responding my emails. Answers were generic and has nothing to do with my questions.

The second issue is that they seem to have lost customer touch. I remember telling customer service representative that my website is not showing up at all. I am told that it is OK. I pinged my website from 9 different computers. None of them showed that it is accessible. It is really frustrating to get an email like "Please check it again and if you have a problem still please run the following command ..."

Overselling

I checked the websites on the server where my shared hosting account is. There are almost 350 websites. It is reasonable.

Bad Neighborhood effect
The strange thing is that some of the websites are spamy on the server. I am pretty good at Search Engine Optimization. All I can tell you is that my two websites were heavily punished by google due to bad neighborhood effect. I asked Midphase to change my server. I got nothing.

First site was getting 3000-3500 uniques per day before switching to anhosting. Number of visitors were almost the same in the first 3 days. On the fourth day, it dropped to 400/day. Whatever I do, it never bounced back. Number of indexed pages on website were almost 4000. Now it is just 930. It is unique content. It is an established website for three years, I can't be sandboxed. Anyway, I gave up building that site.

I decided not to host any websites on anhosting even though I paid 1 years' price as there is no point in getting pissed off by bad neighborhood effect.

One employee just placed a newly developed website on hosting without my consent. Here is the result. Website was PR2. It dropped to 0 in 6 weeks. Number of visitors dropped by 74%. I decided to abondon that domain.

FTP

Worst service... After I decided to completely abondon an hosting even though it is paid for a year, I just used it for FTP.

In fact, failure of FTP is the main reason I am writing this review. I just get the following error. "Disk full -please upload later".

This is the first time in my lifetime I get "full disk" error from a shared hosting provider. It is very likely to be the only one in my life.

Uptime

host-tracker.com is the service I use to check server uptime. Here are the stats for the week of 2008-02-18.

Weekly uptime:71.86% Downtime:1 day(s) 23 hour(s)
Day 2008-02-24 Uptime:98.53% Downtime:21 min(s) 10 sec(s)
Day 2008-02-23 Uptime:100.00%
Day 2008-02-22 Uptime:100.00%
Day 2008-02-21 Uptime:97.48% Downtime:36 min(s) 14 sec(s)
Day 2008-02-20 Uptime:59.48% Downtime:9 hour(s) 21 min(s)
Day 2008-02-19 Uptime:6.27% Downtime:22 hour(s) 29 min(s)
Day 2008-02-18 Uptime:40.79% Downtime:14 hour(s) 12 min(s)

This is simply unacceptable. Those stats are for the first website I abandoned at anhosting.

Support Tickets

Once I got so mad and told them that I am going to leave a negative review at webhostingtalk.com. I am told that it is OK. I was busy and decided to keep quite to discipline them.

2 months later, I now have ftp problem. I decided to mention spesific issues happened two months ago. Guess what??? The ticket that I threaten to leave a negative feedback was removed without my consent. This is insane.

Network
I remember that their network engineers messed up with routers once. Anyway, they fixed it in few hours.

Conclusion
I have been living in US for 5 years. An hosting is the worst service company I have ever interacted in this country.

If I am given a chance to get the money back for the remaining 6 months in my contract, I won't hesitate for a minute to get the money back.

I recommend staying away from anhosting or midphase. It is just waste of money, time and other resources.

Ubiquity Servers Review (No Need To Stay Away)

Feb 16, 2008

I've had a Ubiquity dedicated server for 3 months now. I wasn't going to post a review for a couple more months but felt compelled to do so after reading another thread entitled "Ubiquity Servers Stay Away".

I experienced a similar situation to what the member (who posted the Stay Away thread) experienced with my initial server configuration. My server config was supposed to consist of an E6600, 2 GB RAM, and 250 GB HD. The server I was provisioned with had 1 GB RAM and a 160 GB HD. And like the member I had already invested quite a few hours configuring my server before noticing the problem. But this is where our similarities end. Because Ubiquity's support staff did almost everything possible to fix these problems and accommodate me. I was able to contact their support staff immediately via their Live Chat. When I told them that I had already spent valuable time configuring my server, they installed a 250 GB HD in addition to my existing 160 GB drive so that my configurations on the server would be preserved. When I found out that they did not have any compatible RAM in stock to add to my server, I insisted that I needed it within 2 days (I had a deadline to get the server configured for Xen and the RAM was crucial). Not only did they order the RAM with next day shipping, one of their support staff members (who lives 4 hours from Chicago) guaranteed me that if the RAM did not arrive in time, he would purchase it himself, drive to the DC, and install it. Luckily for him, the RAM came in time, because I was ready to hold him to his word. Lastly, they adjusted my billing cycle so that I was not charged for any of the days in which my server specs were incorrect.

I want to add that I actually expect all these things from someone I do business with. If they make a mistake, they should correct it and make it up to their customers. What really stood out about this experience was Ubiquity's honesty, willingness to admit their mistakes, and accommodate my requests.

The other thing I noticed throughout this experience is that Ubiquity's core staff is not located in Chicago (I can't be certain, but I'm pretty sure). The only times I experienced support delays was when Ubiquity's support staff had to page/contact their hardware person at the DC and wait for that person to do the work. Yes, I said "person", as in " uno", "one". At one point, there was a 2 hour delay because that person wasn't reachable. To be fair, this was after hours on a weekend, so they may have more people available during business hours. More importantly, to me at least, is that they were again honest about the situation, and they were able to deliver what they promised in the end.

I haven't needed to contact Ubiquity for anything else since that time. My server is running as it should be, and their network has never been down.

[30 Days] ServerBeach Review

Aug 11, 2009

I have always wanted to be a customer of ServerBeach since I found out that they hosted YouTube and so on. I have found their prices to be kind of high compared to all the others until they started offering their "Twitter" deals, and that is how a price I could not turn down came into my life.

Well, I ordered a server through Server Beach 7/12/2009 and have been rocking it out at 100% uptime since they set it up for use on 7/14/2009. When I first placed my order I had to send in a photo ID and such to verify it was me ordering the server, which I found to be kind of reassuring knowing that the datacenter took fraud that serious. It might have just been me though!

Server Specs
AMD Opteron 1218
2 GB DDR2 Memory (up to 667MHz)
2 x 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA II , RAID 1
Unlimited (10mbps) bandwidth (AKA 3300ish GIGs?)
Herndon, Virginia

So far, I have had NO network problems! My server is located in their Virgina datacenter outside of Washington DC. Which is a blessing coming from a former FDC Servers user. They have a super fast network, websites load fast.

I have had to contact support a few times, and they were knowledgeable and extremely helpful. One thing I love about ServerBeach support, is that they treat all questions as a true problem, even if it's just a question that has nothing to do with the server being down or anything like that. Support also answers tickets amazingly fast by the way!

I love the fact that I have a set account manager. I love being able to call a single person if I need something outside the realm of support needs.

All in all, these first 30 days have been spectacular, and I look to spending a long time with ServerBeach.

Side Note!

My Previous Providers have included FDC Servers and The Planet.

SingleHop Review (3 Days)

Sep 25, 2009

I just wanted to give you guys an account of my experience with SingleHop, having signed up 3 days ago.

I come from a Shared Hosting Background, then briefly moved to VPS and after having a very dissapointing experience with VPSLAND's VPS offering, I decided to go for Dedicated hosting with SingleHop.

It was a close call between SingleHop and SoftLayer, but in the end the better pricing and website along with positive reviews of SingleHop persuaded me.

So far my experience with SingleHop has been very positive. The Server was setup and up and running within hours of signing up, and the performance is great. I've had zero problems and all helpdesk queries were answered and resolved within the hour.

Caratnetworks 10 Days Review

Oct 9, 2009

simply this company is one of the best i have seen so far.

i don't really seem to find something bad to say.

support is extremely fast "i opened about 2 tickets and they were answered within 5 minutes if not less and solved too" they also offer live chat support in case you needed it.

the prices are very good comparing to all others competitors.

setup time is less than 1 day " mine took about 10 hours or less.

i highly recommend them for anyone wants to host his websites in CA.

they also offered me SWIP at no extra cost .

i didn't have any down time so far and the server is working more than i expected.

over all rating : 9.5/10

Powervps.com First Days Review

Apr 11, 2007

After reading and researching here on WHT I thought powervps sounded like a good choice, especially after some good email correspondance between myself and Rob.

Unfortunately I'm off to a bad start:

I sign up, pay the first month and get the confirmation phone call. I then receive a welcome email with my ip's and how to access directadmin and other bits and pieces.

I send my first support ticket in - I cannot access directadmin at all via FF or IE via 2 different ISP's.

The ip is changed for directadmin (no explanation as to what the problem was).

I can now get access to the main directadmin menu but I can't use any links without the login screen reappearing and most of the time my login credentials are not accepted.

Another support ticket sent and reply email informing me that the issue was a permissions issue on directadmin and that it's rectified (it isn't rectified but at least an explanation was sent).

I had hoped for better, especially seeing as these are initial setup/default configuration issues that should not exist.

I'm disappointed that I've experienced these issues already and my gut feeling already is not a positive one.

It seems support is good, but as above, these initial issues should not exist, after all I want to get on and start putting sites on and start using the VPS but I'm being delayed.

A Short Review Of 3dgwebhosting.com (30 Days)

Sep 13, 2008

I’m have always used a Windows VPS in the US so I can test my websites from the US and other websites. Since I’m only using this VPS for Internet access, I have a goal to pay as little as possible for the VPS.

I did see another thread here at WHT about [url] and they had a VERY good price on a VPS with 512 MB of RAM, 15 GB of disk, 1000 GB of BW and Windows 2003 server with Plesk 30 domain.
The setup was average, about 5 hours from payment. But my VPS was placed on a VPS node with 60-90% average load, and the VPS was VERY slow.

I opened a ticket, and they moved my VPS to another VPS node with lower CPU load (around 30%), and the VPS speed was OK.
But I did have some problems with plesk, and the only way logging in to Plesk was to poen Plesk control panel direct on the VPS.

After some days I did not have access to Remote Desktop anymore. I did get the message that I had more RDC connections that was allowed.

I opened a ticket and they did reply and work on this problem over several days: .....

Terrible Thenynoc.com (2 Days Review!)

Jul 10, 2008

I purchased the plan called vps3.

I configured DirectAdmin and uploaded my scripts like flv players, some php test scripts and the only output I got was php errors and non working FLVs (The browser ask me to download the flvs, instead of playing in jw media player).

Thats, because no modules and extensions were installed, which I asked in my pre-sales question email, befor buying the vps.

I asked for a cancellation of the account a few minutes later I had no access anymore to the IPs, DirectAdmin, Hypervm or any FTP Accounts.

I have paid $24.99 (With promocode NEW50) and got only 2 days access to the vps! Kody R. from Thenynoc.com told me, That a refund is not possible (because of their ToS).

Santrex - 3 Days Of Downtime (a 2 Week Review)

Nov 2, 2009

I've read bad reviews on Santrex, guess I'm just one more in their glut of unhappy customers. I ordered a NL vps 2 weeks ago after being convinced by a friend who has been with them for two months. I was a bit wary, but it was only $10 so I thought what the hell.

Right off the bat when my vps was set up and while I was insalling kluxo, there was some brief downtime. Wasn't that bad, but pretty bad timing for a first impression. Hosting was fine for the next week really, not much downtime, until last week that is.

All NL VPSes were down for more than 72 hours. I didn't pester their support, and it would have been pointless since their support was clueless about the issue. Their reply was that they didn't know how long the downtime would last. Granted it was problem with the datacenter, but thats not what I thought was the worst part.

Normally I'd think that when a host screws up and gives unacceptable uptime, they should at least offer some discount for the next month, if not give it for free. Granted thats not in their TOS, but they shouldn't be surprised at all of these bad reviews and customers leaving from the terrible service. I mean santrex didn't even apologize for this, now I'm not sure if the terrible downtime or the lack of caring by the company is worse.

My VPS hosting ends on the 17th, not gonna do much with it until then most likely, I doubt that santrex expects someone like me to pay them again for the service I got. The fact that these guys have 7k clients amazes me with the fact that these clients stay, and that these guys act as if they have 7 clients.

In closing, you can clearly see this is not a host to bother with, the cheapest vps hosting for sure but even a cheaper level of quality. All Santrex has really provided me is to test out webmin briefly, and it's changed my opinion about the control panel, but really thats it. Hope this review saves anyone from my experience. I may not have had an active site, but anyone hosting a business on one of their NL servers must have gotten big losses from this.

Might As Well Do A HostGator Review

Oct 24, 2009

I've had a few sites with HostGator. I build sites and sell them sometimes. Anyway, the one I have with them now is a adult tube site, so I do not want to post a link to it here. If a mod posts here I will pm them the site URL. I'm eight days into this website, but I have used them a lot the past year.

Off to the review....

- setup was quick as usual. I signed up, paid and had my details in my email within five minutes.

- speed is quick both HTTP and FTP. I will do around 100k unique visitors this billing period as I purchased some advertising and it never slows down

- support is excellent via live chat and ticket support. They can usually solve your problems. I have never used the phone support. tickets get a reply within a half hour

- i had acted on around nine dmca complaints notices they had forward to me and heard back from them within a minute or two when I told them I was removing the content...so fast

- you cannot beat the prices for what you get

This is about the only unlimited hosting provider I can trust

My Hostgator Review

Nov 7, 2009

Im a Hostgator Customer for over 6 months now. I purchased the Business Shared plan. Im running a vbulletin forum with a few members that post on my website. Im also running dedicated servers which use the MySQL database remotely. I was satisfied with Hostgator for about 3 months. After that period the problems began. Somebody DDOSed my Site and of course Hostgator suspended me immediately saying that my index would use too much resources. I was on vacation and got phoned by one of my moderators that we got suspended. So I called the Hostgator support. They told me the same thing, they e-mailed me. So I asked him to activate my page again since its nearly impossible that I can jump from maybe 100 visitors a day to over 1000 visitors in a second. Well the connection broke up since I was walking in the woods but they activated it. About 2 weeks later the same thing happened, they suspended me again. I went into the chat this time and they told me that they dont think that it's an DDOS attack. I told him the same thing again, like I did to the guy on the phone. They activated it again. Everything was fine until 1 month ago. The Site was unavailable for me and many others. I went into the Hostgator chat and they told me that somebody is using a script that is overusing resources making everyone's content on the server unavailable. He said he will look into it and open a new ticket for me. After 1 hour I got suspended. They said that my Shoutbox is using too many resources and that I need to remove it. So I renamed my Shoutbox folder to deactivate it temporarily. I have been running this Shoutbox since the beginning and I/they never had problems with it. So recently the server where my webhosting account is on keeps restarting or crashing for some reason. They told me that Apache keeps crashing and that they are working on it to get it resolved. I was fine with it, but it kept happening. So to get to the end, I have been in the Hostgator chat 6 times today already since they still didnt fix it. Im really starting to think that there will be more and more problems, so Im already looking for another webhost where I can host my Website. I barely use 100GB of Bandwith and I really dont think that Im using much resources running a simple forum.

I also talked to the support many times about their maintenance frames. I think they really should inform the customers by e-mail if they shutdown the server for maintenance or warn before they start working on the server if it will affect the availability of Websites.

Overall Im not happy Customer of Hostgator anymore. Im really impressed how they are forcing me to leave. I was always nice to the customer support since I already worked in the same branch so I know how you feel when a customer is yelling at you.

Review - Hostgator.com

Dec 17, 2008

Review - Hostgator.com

Hola again WHT folks...another review here for one of my many hosts I have used in the past (I am writing a review for each). This time I am talking hostgator.com
I started up with hostgator in early 2007 (feb?) and was with them up until august this year. I had a easy setup and was pleased with the speed I had everything running. At that time I needed to wget a large file (like 14 gigs) from my old dedicated host layeredtech. I requested ssh access and wget which I had enabled in a hour or 2. I moved the large file in a few hours and was very pleased at the backbone speed of that transfer. They have a ticketing system which is very standard in the marketplace today and worked well. I really am partial to whmcs over modernbill recently, a few years ago I would never have said that! And of course Cpanel rocks over plesk (that pest). Anyrate on with the review!

So I had some oddball perms that I could not change which I had to open up a ticket for, ya hate to hit the ticket system hard and heavy at first but sometimes thats life. A bit later I got the file untard and was up and running. I was using alot of resources for a low price (think I was on baby...) and was happy with the transfer speed for the most part. Sometimes it was a bit laggy, but I was shared so I cant really complain and I had pretty high transfers also.

I cannot be sure as to why some files seemed to disappear which I mentioned earlier in a different post. I had several people with access, sometimes I had timeouts while uploading large multi gig datasets, so I am unsure what the issues may have been. It was not important enough for me to open up a ticket over as I was tired of supporting other peoples works by this time and needed to cut that cord. Let me sum it up...

--Hostgator is pretty reasonable on transfer speeds in my estimation.

--They are alive on the ticketing system so you will not wait for days.

--I did not have downtime I did not cause.

--I did have some files that turned up missing that should not have been accessible by other people, however it was not important enough for me to open up a ticket.

--I had somehow setup double payments in their system with both paypal and a mastercard (seems like something should have caught that) and ended up with a 40 some dollar credit. I had to open tickets and call a few times to get that straight but no big shakes. In the end they saw what I was pointing out and I received credit.

I would recommend them based on my experiences except for one thing I do not like at all (which is a common theme among many hosts)

You get a discount if you purchase hosting the entire year in advance. I totally get it you can estimate the future resources you will need to allocate and purchase and the discount is a thank you. I however have been burned in the past and am not alone in my reluctance to fork out ubber bucks for a year of service which I am unsure about the quality of. My main gripe is thats the advertised price, but its not the price you will get when you sign up.

That is a psychological trump which makes you as the buyer say "well I am not going to get that good of a deal because I wont blindly trust them" Which means like me I will check around and see if I can beat that (hey we eventually become smarter hosting shoppers)

I would however like to point out that I received a very nicely worded private message from the president of hostgator over the missing files issue I had experienced and I really think this is a SIGN OF OWNERSHIP! I commend that you own the good/bad/unknown and wanted to help me get to the bottom of it. I now wish I would have opened a ticket on it so we could backtrack it. It is not often you get that level of commitment from a hosting provider and this company is moving in the right direction on several fronts.

Hostgator.com - Great Review

Aug 1, 2008

I'm been with HostGator for about 2 years now and I love their service! Its really easy to get in contact with HostGator staff either by Phone, Live Chat, or Ticket they always resolve whatever issue i'm having in a timely manner. I also like calling HostGator and not talking with someone in India who has no knowledge of what I'm trying to get help with and doesn't even know much about that company, I get that enough when I call Dell lol. Anyways, I just wanted to let everyone know that if you are looking for Shared, Reseller, or Dedicated web hosting then choose HostGator.com .

Hostgator Dedicated Server Review

Mar 24, 2009

I had posted the review a week back but for some reason everything went bazook with WHT.

I lost all my posts but am making an attempt to write the review again of my exp with HG.

Well, I had been with these guys for close to 14 months. I never knew there was bright world beyond HG for dedicated server untill I came to WHT. I had taken a xeon 2.4 with 2 gb ram for $219 everything was fine untill the server started giving me problems off late. It was supposed to be a managed server but these guys had just no clue whatso ever on any kinda problem. The took like close to 12 hours just to figure out the problem which was an issue with fan.

Imagine they were putting the blame game on me till they figured out it was a problem with the hardware(fan). When I went to claim refund for meeting the SLA, they told me that it was my fault and the onus was on me to ensure the server is up and running. WTF? How do you expect me find and why do you think I took managed service if the onus was on me to make sure the server is up and running.

That wasn't the end of my horror story. I don't remember the number of times I had to suffer with restarting the Apache / Mysql and downtime and when I did goto them, they said my RAM usage is too much. Hmmm when I further digged out and I felt cheated when I found out that they gave me a cheap DDR-200 MHZ RAM which is way outdated technology. I was like WTF? All those problems were because of that Cheap DDR-200 MHZ RAM for which they were charging me a bomb.

Imagine they gave me a trash Hardware and charging me a bomb for that crap and they kept blaming me for it.

I scrapped my Xeon 2.8 to Q9550 for a bit more but it was worth it.

Does it mean i can host 10 domains in baby plan and each site is eating + 200gb per month.

Does 10 Domains hosting in this account mean that they will host using addon technology?
What role dedicate IP will play for my websites?

If my domain registrar is different but my host is hostgator then will this plan will work for me or do i need to transfer all the 10 domains to hostgator?

Review Of Hostgator, LunarPages, SLHost, HostingZoom, And JaguarPC

Dec 27, 2007

I thought I would do a review of some of the web hosts that I have used or am using over the last year or so.

I'll start off by talking about the 3 webhosts i currently am using.

1. Lunarpages (regular shared hosting account).
2. HostingZoom (regular shared hosing account)
3. Hostgator (Reseller Account)

Lunarpages:

I have had a shared account with Lunarpages since early July.

Positives: Of the different webhosts I have used, they seem to keep php, and other software the most up to date (on the elara server). A webhost that uses older versions of software that have security issues makes me nervous. Another positive of Lunarpages was the free "Coffeecup" software.
Negatives: I really wanted to like Lunarpages when i signed up with them. Of all the hosts I have used in the last few years, the Lunarpages server I'm currently on is down the most. In fact, I currently use my space there just for testing out software (like Joomla) and setting up demos for my current web design clients to learn on (they can learn on the demos as opposed to messing up their live sites!). The server generally has some issue at least ever couple of days were the site is unreachable (either a hight server load and everything times out) or some other issues....

Review :: HostNine, HostGator, Peakhost, HostLatch, Underhost, Pluthost ..

May 26, 2009

Just thought I would share some the experiences I've had with hosts that I've been with over the last 6 years:

Bluehost/Hostmonster:
Decent host and cheap. If you're looking for a single page site or a site that doesn't have much traffic, this is for you. I moved my sites off their servers (they are sister companies and I was with both) because I wanted a reseller account which they didn't offer. I also thought they slightly oversold the servers.

HostNine:
This was a great host for me. Their support was great and hosting was perfect for what I needed. I was with them for 3 years. Highly recommend if you're looking for a reseller host.

HostGator:
After I realized that I didn't need a reseller host anymore I tried HostGator. I got suckered into the unlimited features and signed up. After figuring out that I had unlimited space but not unlimited inodes(files) I went back to hostnine shared account.

thePeakHost.net:
So I was cruising around some forums and came across a cheap offer for the Peak Host.net. I signed up for their offshore server and haven't had problems since. I'm not going to say how much I paid for a years worth of hosting, but it was less then a big mac meal. Always been up and support has been quick. Great Host.

HostLatch:
Stay away. Far away. They had serious downtime because they combined VPS and shared accounts on the same server. After having a VPS that was effected by this I requested a refund (was only 2 days into service) and was denied.

Underhost.us:
Great host. Great for offshore and onshore. I had them for a few months and purchased a years worth of reseller service. Great service and never noticed downtime.

Pluthost:
Great new host. I had a VPS from them(offshore) and it seemed ok. Dropped service because I realized I didn't need offshore VPS when I had already purchased offshore from peakhost.

Enoch.com:
Just started a VPS from this host. Great uptime, fast servers and support seems to be quick.

bluewaveservers.com:
Bought this off a special I found on DP. Good shared hosting, although a little slow. Could just be my side though.

Servage Say "we Give 14 Days Grace" But Then Suspend Account In 5 Days

Apr 5, 2008

I guess you can fugure my account expired with servage.
but to tell you the truth, I am so P OFF at them

I opened a ticket on my last day and asked if I can move it from 14 months (that I started with) to a 6 months renewal because I could'nt afford to pay the £74 they wanted, and apologised for this. They said I'd have to pay the 74 pounds first and then change my billing to 3 or 6 months.....

I replied saying can I then pay a sum now and a some next week. as I don't have that with me at the moment but wednesday 9th April I wil be able to remew it all

They replied with:

"Hello Ahmed
there is 14 days grace period for customers before account gets suspended."

So I thanked them very much, because like that, instead of paying in installments, I can just pay them the whole amount before the grace period was over, otherwise I would've backed up my data and moved it another server, or on my computer till I remew the whole amount....

5 days later (today), I log on to my account, and it has been suspended as I hav'nt paid for 5 days...thats 9 days before the "grace period"

and now all my domains have this dirty suspended page that they have, and I bet I lost half my members and customers like this, as when I see this page on any domain I enter I never go back to it!

I say to my self its my falt, I should've paid when I had to.....but money was tight, and I told them....and they gave me the 14 days, I did'nt ask for anything, but I thought backing up all my sites and my webdriver that I have with them would take me ages, plus the pages have alot of content that would be a hassle, if I have a "14 days grace period".

This is the first time servage have lied to my face, and not by answering a question with yes or no, by saying a feature they have that does'nt exist and but wednesday I bet all my customers and members would've found somewhere else to hang out, as I only contacted them through the mail server on the site and my forum, now I can't even right "we will be back soon....don't go away",

I thought I warn you guys about this grace, if you have an account with them make sure your ready to renew before it expires, and don't believe most of the stuff that they say.

OMG, I used to promote for these people, and tried hard to always say good stuff about them, you see my sig, it was a promotion for them with a coupon code (that I dredfully apologies about to the administration for not reading the rules properly), and I get in return a lie straight in my face with no warning and no way of accessing my database what so ever.
Just be warned Guys, don't believe everything they say to you and backup all the time because you never know why they suspend your account.....even if your on thew right track

Should I Stay With FDC

Apr 5, 2009

I got my first dedicated server, So I'm not sure if this is what typically happens to everyone on every dedicated server setup, or if it's just my bad luck, or if it's a reflection of the guys at FDC.

At this point, I'm not sure if I should stick with them or not, it's been slightly weird, to somewhat humorous to just down right frustrating.

Only good thing is, it's not an actual production server, I was just seeing how FDC was as a company before I comitted. So other than the upfront cost and time spent dealing with this, we haven't thankfully impacted our customers in anyway.

(1) Contact sales, no response for two days.
(*) contacted them on friday, so I figure that was probably the delay in the response, quite understandable.

(2) They said they'll have to contact me by phone
(*) Sure not a problem, please contact me within these hours...

(3) They contacted me out of the hours specified
(*) ugh...maybe I didn't make myself clear in the email, oh well whatever, atleast they did contact me.

(4) Was promised server will be up by tomorrow
(*) Oh okay, he sounded nice on the phone

(5) Servers were not up by tomorrow had to email to find out what's going on
(*) They just got their shipment in and everything will be setup by the end of the day.

(6) It wasn't set up by the end of the day. Contacted them again.

(7) They got it up the next day, Server finally up, but I can't even ping it.
(*) Took them a day but they got that resolved

(8) I can finally ping it but I can't remote into it.
(*) I'm guessing someone forgot to enable RDP?

(9) Get another bill, Server 2008 Standard $20 more dollars
(*) I've never requested a update from web edition to standard. Maybe with all that reinstalling of the server, someone felt like upgrading me without seeing If I wanted the upgrade or not? Or maybe Remote desktop isn't possible in Web Edition and they upgraded me, if that's the case cool, if not I'm not sure why the upgraded me from Web to Standard.

(10) RDP finally works. Finally log into server...
(*) Hooray, it's finally over?

You figure it's clear sailing from here on out. Grab all my windows updates.

Right click on my computer, left click on properties...Windows not activated, automatic update will be done in 2 days.

(11) Contacted support, can I validate now, or just let it validate in 2 days.
(*) Support says it's not a problem and just to validate it now

(12) Validation failed.
(*) OMG this can't be happening...opened up a ticket.

(13) It looks like it was the wrong key, and we're waiting for msoft to get us a valid one it'll only take an hour.

3 hours later it's still not validated. They say they'll do it, and they'll email me, weird thing is they closed off the ticket? aren't things done by ticket status, if the ticket is closed then how do they know it needs to be done...

FDC is nice and all, decent response times on tickets, usually within 5 minutes, I've had response times with other companies(registrar) avg time was a day.

Anyhow I must be driving them nuts with all the tickets I've opened up, don't think it's any fault of my own though. Like I said earlier I'm not sure If I should stick with them or not, Is this typical? or is it just my bad luck, or is it just FDC?

Stay Away From PrimaryVps.com

May 5, 2007

I inquired about this sales. New company good price Good service. WRONG.

So I get on live chat and talk to Mike and tell him all the requirements I ahve He says no problem pay for managed hosting at $25 a month and we will install all of that for you. So i go to check out enter in there coupon code for 20% off for lifetime and when i get to the paypal page to pay whole different story. Says 20% first month then regular price the rest. So I cancel out of that go back to live chat and get Mike I tell him what happened he says no it is 20% for life. So i take his word for it and head back over to checkout. This time it wont let me there site has a problem and wont complet checkout. So back to live chat I go. this time they transfer me to victor. Who informs me they will only install my stuff if I pay $25 a month and pay them $50 and hour. I tell him I have a guy to install it all for one-time fee of $35 can you do it for that no our fee is $50. Plus they want to charge me $25 a month for fully managed. When i can forget the fully managed and only pay one-time $35. Victor found he would rather argue with me and then try and insult me about a typo error.

Stay away they will not be in business for long. See bottom of chat below. ....

Stay Away From Hostdime

Apr 2, 2008

The shared server I am on runs out of disk space every day and their support says they are still "deciding" what to do about it.

This has been going on for 2 weeks now and they still can;t "decide" what to do about the disks filling up.

How many people does it take to decide to add a hard drive to the server?

I have also had way more downtime than I have had with my other ISP's like HostGator or Lunapages.

Stay away from Hostdime!

Stay Away From Serverbeach

May 28, 2008

About two weeks ago serverbeach null routed one of our servers for over 48 hours with no proof of an attack what so ever. We would randomly see it back online for 5 minutes at a time and the server was perfectly fine. No lag, no attacks, no nothing then boom nullrouted again.

They claimed the traffic the server was receiving was too much for the 10mbit port we were paying for (after we waited 48 hours to receive a useful response) so we were forced to upgrade to a 100mbit port. No big deal, they upgrade us to 100mbit and 10 minutes later the server is online without any issues what so ever. Today we find out the server has been nullrouted once again and we have not had a response from them in hours.

Not to mention when we called support the first time we heard a party in the background and it was impossible to talk due to all of the loud noise and yelling. We were promised an update within 30 minutes, never heard back.
