Powervps.com First Days Review
Apr 11, 2007
After reading and researching here on WHT I thought powervps sounded like a good choice, especially after some good email correspondance between myself and Rob.
Unfortunately I'm off to a bad start:
I sign up, pay the first month and get the confirmation phone call. I then receive a welcome email with my ip's and how to access directadmin and other bits and pieces.
I send my first support ticket in - I cannot access directadmin at all via FF or IE via 2 different ISP's.
The ip is changed for directadmin (no explanation as to what the problem was).
I can now get access to the main directadmin menu but I can't use any links without the login screen reappearing and most of the time my login credentials are not accepted.
Another support ticket sent and reply email informing me that the issue was a permissions issue on directadmin and that it's rectified (it isn't rectified but at least an explanation was sent).
I had hoped for better, especially seeing as these are initial setup/default configuration issues that should not exist.
I'm disappointed that I've experienced these issues already and my gut feeling already is not a positive one.
It seems support is good, but as above, these initial issues should not exist, after all I want to get on and start putting sites on and start using the VPS but I'm being delayed.

I meant to do this a long time ago but just got around to it. I originally signed up with PowerVPS due to all the good reviews that I found here on WHT. I have been with them for a little over a year now and could not be any happier. I have the biggest VPS plan they have. Yesterday I purchased another VPS for a small project.
Their support is top notch, most questions get answered within 2 - 30 minutes of being put in. Their tech support is knowledgable and usually have the problem fixed before I even realized they have responded back to my ticket.
Im not going to make this very long I just wanted to say I have been with them for over a year now and would not go anywhere else.
Thanks PowerVPS for the excellent service and support!

I decided to post a short review regarding PowerVPS. I've been with them for almost 4 years, and it's been great.
After terrible experiences with some reseller accounts, I decided to get my own VPS.
Truth be told they were a bit pricey when I signed up but I decided to try and see if their support was as great as everyone was saying, and at that point I reached the conclusion that peace of mind and tranquility are more important to me.
I must say they are great and it was the right choice. Very fast and knowledgeable support, always taking care of everything, answering requests that sometimes were related to third party scripts or settings. Overall it was an amazing experience and I would recommend them in a heartbeat. In almost 4 years I can recall just one major downtime and that's because it happened recently otherwise I'd have to start searching the closed ticket logs to refresh my memory regarding the last time I had any problems.
I have really been blessed with a great and stable VPS provider, and for that I thank everyone here who have shared their experiences regarding PowerVPS.
I decided to post this review now, because soon I might be moving my VPS somewhere else and decided that before I go maybe others will find this review useful (like I found other reviews in the past). The only problem now is that I'm paying $84.50 for a VPS which comes with Fedora Core 2 (which is pretty much outdated), 20GB of disk space and 768 MB RAM. Right now, this is lot over the average price of other really good providers like ServInt, KnownHost, WiredTree. Taking into account the current economic situation and the fact that I don't make any money from the VPS, I cannot afford them anymore.
However a really big thumbs up for PowerVPS and for the quality of their hosting and their support.

I have been with them for 1 year and 4 days. I could say, everything was great even I got some problems at the first month, but after that, everything was going smoothly.
1, Uptime: 99,999%
2, Support: 10/10.
I would like to thank their support team a lot. They helped my site grows with stable server. The respond time is about 30 minutes in average and even it is a stupid question. They are very polite and quite friendly. When I got problem with database, they tried to restore and helped me to fix the database, even it is not their job.
3, Speed: 9/10. Because the datacenter is based in US, we are in Japan and Vietnam, so, the speed is not so fast, but acceptable.
Unfortunately, my forum now needs at least 512MB RAM, but their power-2 is too expensive for me to upgrade so that I can not stay with them.
I am very happy and pleasant about their service. I strongly recommend powervps.com. They are one of the best vps I have ever used.

My previous hosting was with servint for 1 year and after that I was looking around to find a better or more powerful vps solution.
There were three hosting which I was keen on :
1. Steadfast.net
2. PowerVPS
3. Servint
Servint was excellent, but I like to try something.. what I heard was steadfast have more superior network.
While I was browsing, PowerVPS come-up with a promotion which I can't refused, hence I took the PowerVPS-3 deal straight away...
3 months So far:
1. Network has been really good (Fantastic)
2. Server... there were some problems where my server load went up to 50 and the support people help me fix this.. apparently this is due to one of the VPS node having some issues.
3. Support... Top-notch... very fast and friendly.. I like to personally thank John, as he has made my server running much better.
4. Price.. well I got the deal which I think was the best in the market
As result I am seeing my business picking up very quickly in the past 2 months and again I like to put this review out so people can decide who they would use based on other people experience.
Go Power :-)

The Beginning
I moved over to Power VPS after having been on shared hosting at my first provider for 4 years. Basically, they were overcharging me like crazy. Then I had a very brief false start with a big name hosting company. They didn't answer my very first ticket "My SSI includes are not working" for 2 days. By that time I had already been spooked and signed up with PowerVPS.
I got a 256 mb "Managed" VPS with CPanel plus a few extra IPs; and the signup process was painless. With one or 2 exceptions everything seemed okay. I heard a few comments about my sites being slow, but no other problems.
The Middle
Things went well for the first year or more. Tickets were answered promptly, and because I was serving just my own sites (not reselling), I encountered very few problems. One that did arise and perhaps should have been a signal of what was to come. I honestly can't remember the issue, but when support told me that if I wanted such-and-such to work I should log in as root and modify some obscure (to me) *.ini file. I didn't want a dummy like me poking around in the nether regions of my server. After voicing my concerns, a tech went ahead and edited the file.
As time went on I noticed that more and more I had to explain my problem issues more than once. It appears that when an email ticket is escalated, the details from the previous email do not go along for the ride. I occasionally had to explain and/or clarify the problem a number of times. In fairness, some of the problems may have arisen from my non-tech descriptions .. but! .. what should PowerVPS expect from folks who rent a "Managed" VPS?
The End
I had a problem with my site email not working, so I submitted a ticket. The answer I got back was from a tech informing me that email was working no .. and had tested it. The problem was he had turned on and tested "Squirrel Mail".
Getting the regular email working took several more tickets with occasional shards of information/advice coming from different techs. There was no 1 definitive answer.
On 2 occasions, someone changed the password on my WHM.
A couple of months back I got an email telling me that PowerVPS would be doing a kernel upgrade on the server. (I honestly believe that, at that time, management already knew about the <iframe problem with a number of servers). Okay, so we were down for an hour .. fair enough.
Then I noticed some malicious (iframe) code in on a page. I alerted support. They told me the entire server was infected and would have to be rebuilt. According the the info I got, Fedora 2 had a vulnerability.
Now begins the insanity.
Removing all that malicious code from all my sites (and Apache man pages), ten uploading again took more than 8 hours. Rebuilding the server took almost 7 hours. I was glued to the forum reading, "We're working on it," messages until I couldn't stay awake any longer. Next morning I woke up to find all my sites still off line. A support ticket informed me that all was well with my server .. and had been for 8 hours.
"No it ain't!" It turns out that an Apache module had been installed wrong.
Come on folks .. check your work!
Then I started reading about more servers on PowerVPS being infected ans asked support what was going on. They still had the infection.
They had rebuilt the servers with Fedora 2 yet again!
A long frustrating email to management resulted in an admission that my server had been rebuilt wrong. The only recourse I had was to backup my files (not a CPanel backup), let them rebuild the server, then reload everything .. including setting up and loading a number of mySQL databases.
So about that ime PowerVPS had a sale going. The only way existing customers could benefit from more ram, more space, more bandwidth was to upgrade to a bigger new server.
So I asked about upgrading but to a DirectAdmin Control Panel and they said fine .. but I either had to backup and upload, or pay for 1 months backup space. They pointed me to a script that "might" work for a CPanel to DA restore.
C'mon guys .. I've been here 2 years, had all sorts of problems that were your fault .. twice .. and you want me to pay for what most hosts would do for free?
"Our 10GB of ftp backup space runs $7.99 per month."
Summary
PowerVPS was a good company when I started with them. They offered good services and seemed to be good folks. IMO, somewhere along the way, they seemed to have lost or changed their focus from "good service" to "strictly bu$ine$$". I have moved to another provider. Would I ever consider going back to them? I don't think so.
... the end

I have always wanted to be a customer of ServerBeach since I found out that they hosted YouTube and so on. I have found their prices to be kind of high compared to all the others until they started offering their "Twitter" deals, and that is how a price I could not turn down came into my life.
Well, I ordered a server through Server Beach 7/12/2009 and have been rocking it out at 100% uptime since they set it up for use on 7/14/2009. When I first placed my order I had to send in a photo ID and such to verify it was me ordering the server, which I found to be kind of reassuring knowing that the datacenter took fraud that serious. It might have just been me though!
Server Specs
AMD Opteron 1218
2 GB DDR2 Memory (up to 667MHz)
2 x 500 GB 7200 RPM SATA II , RAID 1
Unlimited (10mbps) bandwidth (AKA 3300ish GIGs?)
Herndon, Virginia
So far, I have had NO network problems! My server is located in their Virgina datacenter outside of Washington DC. Which is a blessing coming from a former FDC Servers user. They have a super fast network, websites load fast.
I have had to contact support a few times, and they were knowledgeable and extremely helpful. One thing I love about ServerBeach support, is that they treat all questions as a true problem, even if it's just a question that has nothing to do with the server being down or anything like that. Support also answers tickets amazingly fast by the way!
I love the fact that I have a set account manager. I love being able to call a single person if I need something outside the realm of support needs.
All in all, these first 30 days have been spectacular, and I look to spending a long time with ServerBeach.
Side Note!
My Previous Providers have included FDC Servers and The Planet.

I just wanted to give you guys an account of my experience with SingleHop, having signed up 3 days ago.
I come from a Shared Hosting Background, then briefly moved to VPS and after having a very dissapointing experience with VPSLAND's VPS offering, I decided to go for Dedicated hosting with SingleHop.
It was a close call between SingleHop and SoftLayer, but in the end the better pricing and website along with positive reviews of SingleHop persuaded me.
So far my experience with SingleHop has been very positive. The Server was setup and up and running within hours of signing up, and the performance is great. I've had zero problems and all helpdesk queries were answered and resolved within the hour.

simply this company is one of the best i have seen so far.
i don't really seem to find something bad to say.
support is extremely fast "i opened about 2 tickets and they were answered within 5 minutes if not less and solved too" they also offer live chat support in case you needed it.
the prices are very good comparing to all others competitors.
setup time is less than 1 day " mine took about 10 hours or less.
i highly recommend them for anyone wants to host his websites in CA.
they also offered me SWIP at no extra cost .
i didn't have any down time so far and the server is working more than i expected.
over all rating : 9.5/10

I have been customer with HostGator for almost two weeks and my experience has been TERRIBLE, AWFUL etc.
The server I am being hosted on is overloaded daily to the point when my SSH times out and my website is unaccessible. I have been told that the customers who overuse their resources have been removed and that it should work fine - surprisingly, it does not.
Days ago I have been also assured, by the live support rep, that load averages will stay around 2s or 3s after the server will be filled as the accounts were still being added. That is not happening even though there are no accounts being added anymore to the server (as I was told few days later).
As I am writing this, the load averages are: 121.74, 66.47, 49.90
The overload has been causing problems DAILY.

I’m have always used a Windows VPS in the US so I can test my websites from the US and other websites. Since I’m only using this VPS for Internet access, I have a goal to pay as little as possible for the VPS.
I did see another thread here at WHT about [url] and they had a VERY good price on a VPS with 512 MB of RAM, 15 GB of disk, 1000 GB of BW and Windows 2003 server with Plesk 30 domain.
The setup was average, about 5 hours from payment. But my VPS was placed on a VPS node with 60-90% average load, and the VPS was VERY slow.
I opened a ticket, and they moved my VPS to another VPS node with lower CPU load (around 30%), and the VPS speed was OK.
But I did have some problems with plesk, and the only way logging in to Plesk was to poen Plesk control panel direct on the VPS.
After some days I did not have access to Remote Desktop anymore. I did get the message that I had more RDC connections that was allowed.
I opened a ticket and they did reply and work on this problem over several days: .....

I purchased the plan called vps3.
I configured DirectAdmin and uploaded my scripts like flv players, some php test scripts and the only output I got was php errors and non working FLVs (The browser ask me to download the flvs, instead of playing in jw media player).
Thats, because no modules and extensions were installed, which I asked in my pre-sales question email, befor buying the vps.
I asked for a cancellation of the account a few minutes later I had no access anymore to the IPs, DirectAdmin, Hypervm or any FTP Accounts.
I have paid $24.99 (With promocode NEW50) and got only 2 days access to the vps! Kody R. from Thenynoc.com told me, That a refund is not possible (because of their ToS).

I've read bad reviews on Santrex, guess I'm just one more in their glut of unhappy customers. I ordered a NL vps 2 weeks ago after being convinced by a friend who has been with them for two months. I was a bit wary, but it was only $10 so I thought what the hell.
Right off the bat when my vps was set up and while I was insalling kluxo, there was some brief downtime. Wasn't that bad, but pretty bad timing for a first impression. Hosting was fine for the next week really, not much downtime, until last week that is.
All NL VPSes were down for more than 72 hours. I didn't pester their support, and it would have been pointless since their support was clueless about the issue. Their reply was that they didn't know how long the downtime would last. Granted it was problem with the datacenter, but thats not what I thought was the worst part.
Normally I'd think that when a host screws up and gives unacceptable uptime, they should at least offer some discount for the next month, if not give it for free. Granted thats not in their TOS, but they shouldn't be surprised at all of these bad reviews and customers leaving from the terrible service. I mean santrex didn't even apologize for this, now I'm not sure if the terrible downtime or the lack of caring by the company is worse.
My VPS hosting ends on the 17th, not gonna do much with it until then most likely, I doubt that santrex expects someone like me to pay them again for the service I got. The fact that these guys have 7k clients amazes me with the fact that these clients stay, and that these guys act as if they have 7 clients.
In closing, you can clearly see this is not a host to bother with, the cheapest vps hosting for sure but even a cheaper level of quality. All Santrex has really provided me is to test out webmin briefly, and it's changed my opinion about the control panel, but really thats it. Hope this review saves anyone from my experience. I may not have had an active site, but anyone hosting a business on one of their NL servers must have gotten big losses from this.

I guess you can fugure my account expired with servage.
but to tell you the truth, I am so P OFF at them
I opened a ticket on my last day and asked if I can move it from 14 months (that I started with) to a 6 months renewal because I could'nt afford to pay the £74 they wanted, and apologised for this. They said I'd have to pay the 74 pounds first and then change my billing to 3 or 6 months.....
I replied saying can I then pay a sum now and a some next week. as I don't have that with me at the moment but wednesday 9th April I wil be able to remew it all
They replied with:
"Hello Ahmed
there is 14 days grace period for customers before account gets suspended."
So I thanked them very much, because like that, instead of paying in installments, I can just pay them the whole amount before the grace period was over, otherwise I would've backed up my data and moved it another server, or on my computer till I remew the whole amount....
5 days later (today), I log on to my account, and it has been suspended as I hav'nt paid for 5 days...thats 9 days before the "grace period"
and now all my domains have this dirty suspended page that they have, and I bet I lost half my members and customers like this, as when I see this page on any domain I enter I never go back to it!
I say to my self its my falt, I should've paid when I had to.....but money was tight, and I told them....and they gave me the 14 days, I did'nt ask for anything, but I thought backing up all my sites and my webdriver that I have with them would take me ages, plus the pages have alot of content that would be a hassle, if I have a "14 days grace period".
This is the first time servage have lied to my face, and not by answering a question with yes or no, by saying a feature they have that does'nt exist and but wednesday I bet all my customers and members would've found somewhere else to hang out, as I only contacted them through the mail server on the site and my forum, now I can't even right "we will be back soon....don't go away",
I thought I warn you guys about this grace, if you have an account with them make sure your ready to renew before it expires, and don't believe most of the stuff that they say.
OMG, I used to promote for these people, and tried hard to always say good stuff about them, you see my sig, it was a promotion for them with a coupon code (that I dredfully apologies about to the administration for not reading the rules properly), and I get in return a lie straight in my face with no warning and no way of accessing my database what so ever.
Just be warned Guys, don't believe everything they say to you and backup all the time because you never know why they suspend your account.....even if your on thew right track

I have rented PowerVPS servers for a couple of years now. In fact, I have a special XMS setup and one VPS.
Up to now support has been excellent. But man...over the last week there have been so many problems, and even attempts to brush me off with shoddy tech support.
Could it be they have grown too big too fast?

Over the past few weeks I have been having problem after problem. What worries me is that 2 seem to get fixed then pop up again a week or so later.
3 examples
-server compromised because of an apparent OS vulnerability
-hours and hours spent removing malicious code from .htm pages
-message in forum from tech support that new OS used to rebuild servers
-server rebuilt, but on same OS as before
-tech advises that if I want to be safe, VPS should be rebuilt on newer OS
-email is down server wide
-tech fixes squirrel mail, not popmail
-I report email still down, and different tech fixes
-email down a week later
-I change password to WHM after server compromised
-suddenly I can't logon
-tech fixes the problem
-today again, I can't logon
A number of questions go unanswered .. several tickets never closed.

On occasion I have mentioned problems with PowerVPS. It seems only fair that I give everyone an update. Since switching to a VPS account (several months ago) I have been very impressed. While it has meant a much bigger load for me and a steep learning curve, I now have a server that I can configure to my liking and the support could not be better. I am very very pleased with the service and the amount I have learned from the support staff at PowerVPS. I would now recommend them highly.

Today, i will tell you the history of last 2 years which includes some good providers and what are their pros and cons, and if they can improve those things then everyone will benefited.
First i launch my website on shared hosting and I choose site5 for that, due to exciting pricing and features but actually features (rollback) doesn't work well and they have taken back by site5 but on my server there is some problem and that's get restarted in 10 days and downtime was around min 1 hour. But after various complaints they reduce the load on that server and then no looking back but site5 customer service is simply ok, get a response in 6-7 hours. But after 1 year load on my site increases and they asked me to please move on VPS because we can't handle so much load.. I paid them on yearly basis and they refund my whole money of the second year which i already paid in advance.
Then my second hosting service is PowerVPS, no doubt when you move from shared to VPS you will get better performance but actually I am getting the best server performance..? I have no idea because speed little bit improved and looks no other problem and i think i am getting the best after paying $120 per month when for shared service i am giving same amount for a year. But actually on PowerVPS i am hosted on lowest performance server when i am on the highest paying plan and that is revealed by the customer executive after 6 months stay. The problem with PowerVPS is the admin is very rude and can't listen to you but customer service is very helpful and gives you very prompt reply and help you in every matter. PowerVPS servers are also very prone to hacking and this can you check by searching on WHT, and they always replied server is hackable due to your script but no idea which script.. quite interesting :-) When server hacked and asked them to backup the server then they charge $85 per hour for backup your data which is too high and billing time was also not accurately logged. But in my plan 600GB bandwidth is allowed and 1-2 times i gone till 700 GB and they didn't charge anything, that's really good.
Now from last 2 months i am with SolarVPS and want to say this is one of the best i used till date and if they improve 1-2 things then probably i will be solarvps customer for long time. After transferring of data on solarVPS, many members of my site asked me what you have done on site... site is too fast now. Which is never said by anyone before when my site on powervps and my site is graphics heavy. The price is also half on solarvps in comparison to powervps. And like to mention admin is very very helpful. On some matters which i arise to check the customer service, they totally denied to do but after talking to admin the customer service done that task in a few minutes. Response from solarvps is also very prompt. But few things i didn't like about solarvps and hope they will do anything...
a) If server goes down for any reason then they must post in the forum about what's the problem but they didn't do, like few days before server goes down, even solarvps site is also not opening but actually don't know what is the problem... except some server problem.
b) They asked you to buy a extra bandwidth in advance @.25 per GB, but how anyone can calculate if they required more this month or not like on my website sometimes i used 400GB and sometimes 600GB without doing anything extra. Secondly they say otherwise we will charge $.50 per GB for overusage but customer service said when you touch 600GB then account will be blocked and have only limited access but admin said account will not be blocked and we will charge on overusage but actually don't know what going to happen because both giving different answers and also not have a bigger plan. So, why don't they give + 50GB on every account (or on client prompt payment records) and asked the user to take action within this 50GB otherwise we will blocked the access and if month finishes within that 50GB then don't charge anything. Hope they will do something soon because i am looking for a plan which gives me same service and price with better bandwidth, but i like to stay with them if they do something.
Currently i am also using hostgator.com for another website and no doubt customer service is very good and online availability at every time its awesome. If looking for shared hosting account then they are must look.
PowerVPS - 2.5 Star because of admin rude behaviour, charging high price and don't give the server as per their cost and inform the user that they are on the best config .
SolarVPs - 4 Star for nice behaviour by admin and wonderful performance by server. If bandwidth problem is solved then 5 Star.

A partner and I are in the beginning stages of consolidating our website operations.
I have a managed dedicated server account with Liquid Web whom I am extremely happy with. I have been with them for about 4 years and have nothing but good experiences with them. They have always been there for me.
My partner is with PowerVPS. He is just as happy with them as I am with Liquid Web and has nothing but good things to say about them and their services.
With that said, we only need one. I have compared the plans and prices for fully managed dedicated servers on both sites and it does appear that Liquid Web is slightly more expensive between the two for similar specs. However, the most important issue with me (as well as my partner) is not price...but the level of support we get for the price.
What other factors can any of you provide about either Liquid Web or PowerVPS that we may have overlooked in the comparison process?

I am with powervps for more than 2 years, but in the last month all the good service and the uptime from the past has disappeared.
I have 3 VPS accounts, all in diferents servers, and in this last month all three accounts were having lot of problemas, specially one of them, that was more than 15 hours down, and now is down again, and it looks like they take a while to be up again...
I ask to the support about this problems, but i don´t get any convincing answer. I think that they have a big problem with the stability of his systems, and i don´t know why.
I arrive to this forum looking for the experiences of other costumers of powervps this days to see if I am the person with worse luck of the world or if it is a global problem of powervps.

I chose PowerVPS due to their west coast IDC's proximity to Asian networks, where much of my traffic comes from. The IP provided in pre-sales confirms the connection from Asia to the San Jose IDC. However, now that I'm all set up, all connections from Asia and the west are routing to their east coast IDC in Virginia. Not getting much help on this in tickets with them.
Does anyone here have a PowerVPS server that is actually in their west coast IDC?

I wanted to give a small review on my stay with PowerVPS.com. I have had no problems or issues with them since I have been with them for ( I think 4 months. ) The support is always there to help. They have been quick about everything I have needed. I am very thankful and glad I chose them when I did.
I started on the smallest plan, Grew out of that and moved to the highest plan. They helped my move all my clients sites over with no downtime what-so ever.

Stumbled across the forum while searching for a vps plan..
I currently run a dedicated server, and i'm sick of managing the whole thing via command line. I'm after something I can easily manage my many domains (6 all up) some that are pushing in excess of 3million hits a month..
I'm looking at powervps linux cpanel power2 plan, or titanium plan from future host..
I'm after a fair bit of bandwidth, at least 512mb of ram (preferably more) since I run a few tomcat applications, cpanel with whm. But really, I just want everything set up out of the box, mail servers, binddns, etc. etc I'd reinstall php and mysql as i'd want 5 and 5.

I'm a client in powervps since april 2006.
power1
10GB Disk Space
150GB Monthly Transfer
384MB RAM guaranteed
$45 per month
well, they have a good support, never been in problem with them.
but now, i'm starting getting some faills, i asked them, they said "memory is not enough, you need to upgrade"
I have just 10 sites, used about 30% of disk space.
I can't pay $85 / month (next package) for 10 web sites, i think this is a mistake.
I'm thinkin to move up, looking for a good provider, small vps 15-20 GB space or just a reseller.
my budget ($30 - $45 a month)
So what do you think..?

I want to get the best available thing out there...which means:
-reliable company
-reliable service
-customer satisfaction
-FULLY managed support
After reading reviews I came down to Liquidweb, PowerVPS and JaguarPC. Liquidweb seems to be the most estabilished company, PowerVPS totally specializes in VPS solutions, and JaguarPC hmm they are certainly the cheapest of these 3.
