I plan to run the live support script for my website. Since these kind of script cause alot of traffic on the site, i am looking for a second server to host it. I think a VPS would be good for it. Anyone here has experience about this or has any reommend for a good VPS server?
I am running a PHPlivesupport.com sript for live support
It is with a heavy heart that I am penning this. This is a result of the accumulation of indifferent live chat support admin, and the lack of a standard SOP among all the live chat admin support in Hostgator.
I am not writing this due to one indifferent live chat support admin.
Neither am I writing this due to one isolated case.
And neither is this written to vent out my anger nor to publicly disgrace the company.
I've been requesting chat support for quite a number of times, mainly due to corrupted PHP on my server, deletion of bzcompress from my reseller account, and most recently, error when my php script run the CURL function stating "cannot connect to host".
I've tried raising suggestion civicly and gently across more that I can remember, hoping situation will improve but to no avail. I have been getting so many different response and answers by many live chat support admin for the same questions posed, that I wonder if they're working for the same company? At this moment of time, courtesy and politeness is the only way to ensure customer's satisfaction. But alas, that is not to be, for not everyone within Hostgator understands that. And even if they do, not everyone is following so.
Will someone from the senior management please get back to me and I'll be glad to forward all the chat transcript ID and and logs and ticket raised so that corrective action and measures will be taken to ensure situation improves?
To be on a fair end, I have to say that it's not all chat admin that are indifferent.
There have been occassions on more than once whereby live chat support were extremely helpful and courteous as well. Paul Cr, Larry Ri are just a few of the wonderful staff that I'm glad to have talked to.
I will not reveal too much in a public forum and I hope to hear from the senior management soon. you may either email me or msg me.
I need to host livezilla (live chat software) . It needs php and mysql. Which host provider would you recommend? Its not running from my own server. I don't know why, but giving so many errors! I have seen people are using it ..
How important is this from a customer standpoint? Assuming ticket response times are under 1 hour, is Live support something that customers really want? I'm considering adding it as a support option, but want to weigh whether or not its worth it. <<Please setup signature in Member Control Panel>>
I tried to post this request before but my post got deleted ( I think because I was new to this forum ) hopefully this time it will get posted.
I bought a flash live chat script which require a dedicated server as they say in the script requirements but I know it would work using a VPS with root access..
The script can run on both Linux and Windows OS and needs red5 and java
according to the script designers such site with about 100 users can use about 500GB of data transfer per month but I am not sure if that is true or not as I haven't had the chance to test it.
I am donating all the expenses as a gift for my church community and looking for help and advise on the best way to host it
Not sure if I can post the name of the script here or not but if I am allowed I will do that, so you guys can see exactly what I need
Anyone know about these scripts and how much bandwidth and data they need to run lets say with 200 users
Personally, I use it. I like the friendly touch of talking to someone whom responds to my questions directly.
Do you think Live Support is good for;
1. Nothing 2. Sales 3. Tech Support 4. Emergency, etc.
In my experience, Live Support has often been used for technical assistance, and while this is great if you are a one man shop, it doesnt work very well with shift tech support.
Sales is a bit more direct, but - I would personally still prefer a 'record' of the conversation that the client could point to.
Live support may have a valid use during emergency situations, however I am doubting that the personalities that actually answer these live chats can provide any authoritative answers other than 'It'll be ok'.
So, does live chat have a future in Web Hosting, in your opinion?
I just wanted to post a chat log I had with hostclear.com's live support. This was a ten minute long chat. You tell me what you think. Keep in mind that hostclear.com only has 1 package. They sell nothing other then a $3.95 cent package.
You are now chatting with 'Andrew'
Andrew: Welcome to Live Chat support, how may I help you? matt: Andrew, your 3.95$/month package can be used as a reseller account? matt: Does the cPanel come with WHM matt: hello? Andrew: Hello Matt Andrew: Please allow me some time to check Andrew: We do not currently offer reseller accounts with WHM on our shared hosting plans. matt: it says in your terms that we could resell you just won't support our clients Andrew: If you want you can resell it to anybody, but you need to take care of it as we do not support it. matt: how many ftp accounts are allowed? Andrew: Please allow me some time to check matt: You offer only one plan and you don't know the answer quickly to the simplest of questions. Andrew: Let me get that information for you. Meanwhile your patience is appreciated. Andrew: Its unlimited Andrew: You can create unlimited ftp accounts.
This thread will probably get deleted but I think that a host that is listed amongst the top ten at www.webhostingstuff.com should be told about. I am a reseller, and I was looking for a better package. I don't think that this should be deleted. This is a ten minute log.
Just in case you missed it, Hostnine is no longer offering live support. Live chat is sales only, and I was inform that support was only being provided by ticket
what good support company could provide support also via chat to get issues resolved..
Most are ticket based and chat is for very basic issues..
What we need is get support on board, dialogue between issues to resolve the problem asap instead of waiting for email for a problem that could be resolved in a few minutes.
Any ideas who offers this type of service with well qualified engineers behind the chat team?
I'm a web designer - not an IT guy, as such I'm not 100% on setting up servers/dev environments etc...
I'm freelance and currently working in-house for a client that has set up a dev server that supposedly mirrors their live site - its a catalogue site with loads of dynamic elements.
The dev site they've set up displays only the html, no images or stylesheets link up when i preview them in dreamweaver as they don't logically link to the page as the pages are templates drawn from various folders.
What I want to know is is it possible to mirror a dev server exactly like the live website so the scripts etc all work as they do on the live site. I'm pretty sure it is as I've worked on dev servers before but not one like this bloody mess. The IT bods here seem to think the dev server is the best that is achievable - are they right? am I missing something???
I can't really answer any technical questions apart from i think the dev server is an apache server - what do i need to explain to the IT bods to get my point across?
I have been working on an online shop locally from my machine, using Visual Web Developer and SQL server.
This is working fine, but now its at the stage were i need to show a client. In order to do this i need to upload it to our servers.
What i cant get my head round is the connection to the sql server, do i need to upload this too, or can i somehow point the connection string to the sql server sitting on my local machine...
Is it easier just to upload an sql server? how would i go about this?
I have a VPS server running on Windows 2003, and would like to stream live videos to about 50-80 people. I was wondering is there a way to have a FLASH based stream embed into my website, without paying for a software like Flash Media Server?
I am planning to implement a chat software for our team.
We are currently using AIM. But, we have planned to install any software which works like AIM but it should be controlled by us.
Only, we can add or remove users. Only, we can see the chats done. To be frank, I need a software like AIM installed on a server which should be controlled by me.
Alright we just bought a new customer aboard with a ChatBox on the site it seems as if this chatbox is causing higher load we went from 0.00 to 0.68-1.12 now this happened on our old server before too with another chatbox. They use vBulletin any ideas as to what would be causing this?
Does anyone here know about a dedicated server hosting company located in either Florida or Texas (United States) which allows the use of IRC? I plan to link to an already established network. Nothing illegal!
I have recently opened up a game, in which is slowly becoming pretty active. However, I want the ability to create an IRC server - locally. We are currently only on shared hosting, because we don't have a lot of bandwidth usage yet - however I believe it would be successfull to start an IRC server now, plus it would be nice to know how to do it.
However, I have two questions/problems: I am not interested in having another computer run the IRC server, because I don't have a stable internet connection except at home in which Im not willing to have to drive from campus to home if something were to happen. Therefore, I'd like to be able to run it off a PC I have ideling inside my dorm. The problem is, my roommate uses it a lot while I use my laptop, and therefore it needs to run off Windows, or somehow give me the ability to run it off a linux while running Windows - or something silly like that.
Therefore, I have two possibilities. Either one, this is completely not possible or two there is some sort of emulator or something like in which I can run IRC on Windows - Or the ability to create an IRC server directly onto windows.
Any ideas? If it is the second possibility, please provide some good tutorials or software into creating a basic IRC server. I don't really care about security unless it is going to affect the connection/box. It's not like we have a bunch of hackers who are going to attemp to exploit it, because when we launch out of BETA we will buy a server, in which we will have IRC installed onto it.
I want a cheap Dedicated server that will allow irc. I will only be using IRC on the server so it doesnt need to be very powerful. Anyone have a suggestion? I want to pay less than $50/month.
So... I just had an interesting chat over at BlueHost.
One of my clients' sites has been really sluggish lately, and I'm trying to patch and streamline what I can until we can get them migrated over to something more stable.
Anyway, I was looking over things in cPanel and saw that the Server Load was way in the red zone (over 24 on an 8 CPU box)! So I jumped into their live chat, thinking that was the best way to help bring it to their attention quickly.
Here's what I got instead:
Travis [10:13:19 AM]: box439's Server Load is skyrocketing -- in just the past three minutes it has gone from 21.24 (8 cpus) up to 34.12! Even now, it's "stabilizing" at 25 (which is WAY too much for an 8 cpu server).
Brent [10:13:46 AM]: actually, it's not. It's a percentage. [10:13:52 AM]: 25% of the load Travis [10:14:03 AM]: No, it's not. 25 = 25cpu equivalent. Brent [10:14:32 AM]: no, really, it is. Travis [10:15:24 AM]: Brent, anything over 8.5 generates the "red exclamation mark" icon on the server status page Brent [10:16:13 AM]: yes it doesn, but it doesn't mean there is an overload Travis [10:17:06 AM]: ((BlueHost's Server Status page)) says, "2009-06-01 09:10:45: Box under heavy load -- you may experience degraded system performance" Brent [10:17:39 AM]: i didn't say it wasn't under a heavy load. I was trying ot explain more of what that server cpu item means Travis [10:18:25 AM]: from ((url)): "At this time of writing, red light is shown for the server loads where the numbers are 18.12 (8cpus). This means there are 18.12 processes in queue - which is over 2 times of CPU capacity." Brent [10:18:49 AM]: that information is not correct, as we have modified the way our servers display the cpu.
[10:23:32 AM]: I apologize, but it seems you've stepped away. Due to other customers awaiting assistance I am going to have to end this chat. If you have additional questions, we are here for you at all times. Thank you for trying our Live Chat! If you have additional questions, many answers can be found through our Knowledgebase. If you have other issues arise please let us know over live chat or give our Ticket Center a try. Remember our World Class Support is just a click away!
So I'm wondering whether he was completely BS-ing me, or if BlueHost really did modify that output. (And if it's the latter, then why would 25% CPU usage bring the server to a slow crawl?)
I'm looking for a dedicated server where IRC is allowed on the network. EU or US. Nothing abusive. Budget is from $80 - $100-$110 and a place where they could announce my /24.
In last several days (maybe weeks) I sometime see in bandwith graph that link of 10mb/s is 100% used, see http://img144.imageshack.us/img144/9103/rtgimgphpvi3.png
Than I watch in var/tmp and find some bad code, files and scripts in which are some hacker email addresses and some IPs. In some file I see and some IRC BOT script. In some are logs in which see attempts of logins.....
I am looking for a reliable dedicated server provider that allows IRC. I am looking for something under 100 dollars. My budget is 100 dollars, not a cent more. I am not concerned about management levels. Managed or un-managed doesn't matter. I would prefer a U.S. based location.
1. Dont ask me what specs I am looking for; the under $100 budget will dictate the specs.
2. Yes, I am aware that there have been two topics about dedicated servers that allow IRC in the recent past. I was unable to find a host from those topics.
3. Yes, I am sure I am looking for a dedicated. Don't post links to shell providers.
4. I am about 99% sure, I will not purchase a dedicated server from your sig. If you don't have something useful to say, please don't say it at all.
5. I'm not looking for someone to tell me that its hard to find a dedicated server that allows IRC under 100 dollars. I am also fully aware that most dedicated providers don't allow IRC. On top of that I understand WHY a lot of providers don't allow IRC. Please don't post if your only going to say why IRC isn't allowed.
6. I have checked the offers sections. No luck. Please don't tell me to check the offers section.
7. I am looking for a dedicated server under 100-dollars. That's the bottom line. Thanks for reading the entire post Wait! Did I tell you thanks for reading the entire post?
I'm looking for a dedicated server from an IRC Friendly host. I would appreciate suggestions on places where they allow IRC to be run (Other than FDC).
I am looking for somewhere in the US or Canada that can host a VPS with the following requirements:
10gb space 256mb ram - burst 512mb 200gb bandwidth 2 ips (or 1 with cheap price for an extra ip) Public IRC Capable (not linking with EFNet, etc.)
I've been searching for something that can meet my needs but I've been at a loss. BuyAVPS became a big issue, and I pulled out quickly before the most recent downtime, SolarVPS before that with their lovely billing problems and collection threats.
