Support & System Administrators Via Chat

Feb 24, 2007

what good support company could provide support also via chat to get issues resolved..

Most are ticket based and chat is for very basic issues..

What we need is get support on board, dialogue between issues to resolve the problem asap instead of waiting for email for a problem that could be resolved in a few minutes.

Any ideas who offers this type of service with well qualified engineers behind the chat team?

Result: There Is No Standard SOP Within Live Chat Support Admin In Hostgator

Mar 7, 2009

It is with a heavy heart that I am penning this. This is a result of the accumulation of indifferent live chat support admin, and the lack of a standard SOP among all the live chat admin support in Hostgator.

I am not writing this due to one indifferent live chat support admin.

Neither am I writing this due to one isolated case.

And neither is this written to vent out my anger nor to publicly disgrace the company.

I've been requesting chat support for quite a number of times, mainly due to corrupted PHP on my server, deletion of bzcompress from my reseller account, and most recently, error when my php script run the CURL function stating "cannot connect to host".

I've tried raising suggestion civicly and gently across more that I can remember, hoping situation will improve but to no avail. I have been getting so many different response and answers by many live chat support admin for the same questions posed, that I wonder if they're working for the same company? At this moment of time, courtesy and politeness is the only way to ensure customer's satisfaction. But alas, that is not to be, for not everyone within Hostgator understands that. And even if they do, not everyone is following so.

Will someone from the senior management please get back to me and I'll be glad to forward all the chat transcript ID and and logs and ticket raised so that corrective action and measures will be taken to ensure situation improves?

To be on a fair end, I have to say that it's not all chat admin that are indifferent.

There have been occassions on more than once whereby live chat support were extremely helpful and courteous as well. Paul Cr, Larry Ri are just a few of the wonderful staff that I'm glad to have talked to.

I will not reveal too much in a public forum and I hope to hear from the senior management soon. you may either email me or msg me.

Spam Blocker Rises From The Dead To Bite Lax Email Administrators

Mar 29, 2008

A database of open relay email servers, provided until late 2006 as a voluntary service to help email administrators block spam, has suddenly re-activated but is returning every address queried as being on its blacklist.

Administrators of email systems should have stopped querying the database (relays.ordb.org) in December 2006 when it shut down, but some failed to do so. That was no problem until today, queries were simply rejected, but now the address of any email server presented is being returned as an open relay. This results in the querying system rejecting all incoming mails from that server.....

IWeb Technical Support Reps And System Admins Dont Understand Basic TCP-IP Networking

Aug 22, 2008

I want to pass on a warning before anyone goes with iWEB. I just ordered a $269 a month dedicated server so I could run vmware on it for my own virtual machines that I need.

With this server I got 7 IPs.

The primary IP they assigned me is say for example: 70.xx.15.171 with a GW of 70.xx.15.161. The secondary ips they issue me are 70.xx.18.249-254. So these are on a completly different subnets.

After talking on the phone to several differnt people including tech support who tells me this will work jsut fine useing thoes secondary ips on my VMs and to not put a gateway address. I talk to my account manager he says to open a ticket that he will forward to their system admins.

This is the ticket I opened.

I just got a new server set up CL-T113-140CL. It was
assigned the primary ip of 70.xx.15.171 with a GW of 70.xx.15.161. My
secondary ips are 70.xx.18.249-254. The server we got from you is a
VMWare host. We need to use the secondary IPs for the Guest VMs. How
ever the primary and secondary IPS are on different subnets and so
the VMs useing the IPs 70.xx.18.249-254 can not talk to the gateway.
I need to have a gateway server IP to use for my VMs.

Please either give me a valid GW address for the 70.38.19.x subnet or
assign new secondary IPs on teh 70.xx.15.x subnet with a SM that can
talk to the 70.xx.15.161 GW assigned.

this is the reply I get back from their system adminstrator

The gateway to be used for your secondary IP addresses is the same as
the one for your primary. You should not have anything to change,
gateway-wise. Just leave the current one as default gateway and
everything should work just fine.

If there is anything please do not hesitate to contact us.

Regards,

Are they brain dead at iWEB? DO they understand basic TCP-IP networking at all?

Here is my last reply. I tried to make it real simple for them to understand.

This does not address the issues. Do you even know what a virtual
machine is? It is a virtual computer running on the host computer.
The host computer has a valid ip address of 70.xx.15.171, sm:
255.255.255.224 gw: 70.xx.15.161. The virtual machines (or guest
operating systems) if I assign it the IP address of 70.xx.18.249 SM:
255.255.255.248 with no gateway it is physically impossible for it to
reach the gateway of the host pc 70.xx.15.161. You have to understand
the Virtual Machine operates as a completely separate computer. It
requires its own gateway. with no gateway specified it has no way to
get out of its local subnet to get to the 70.xx.15.x subnet. What
happens if you put two physical computers on one hub. The computer on
port 1 of the hub has the IP info 70.xx.15.171 SM: 255.255.255.224 GW
70.xx.15.161. The second computer is on port 2. It has the ip info
of: 70.xx.18.249 SM: 255.255.255.248 GW: NONE.
How is the pc on port 2 going to communicate with the pc on port
1? This is the exact situation we are in. There has to be a
gateway to route the IP traffic from pc2 to pc1 to get onto the
internet.

Softlayer Support Vs Theplanet Support

Jul 12, 2008

I'm undecided between an upcoming dedicated hosting server and am moving between Softlayer and ThePlanet. My decision partly comes down to support.

I've read many reviews on WHT about both companies, but not necessarily comparing them from people who have experienced both.

So my questions (keep in mind this is my first dedicated. I have used VPS in the past with good support) Which offers MORE support (not better) - I'm curious which company might consider my support questions as "part of the default service package" or "need additional service plan for that" More detailed support - my usual experience with support is support staff assume you already know a high level so it may take going forward and back 5 times via email to get a full answer
Overall support satisfaction - any other comments

Is BurstNET Chat Ever Online?

Apr 28, 2009

I have been looking to talk to BurstNET reps about a possible purchase (gunna attempt to maybe negotiate a deal - trying to choose between VolumeDrive and BurstNET) but I have yet to find their chat to be online in the past week or so; I have checked during all hours of the day (meaning at different times of the day... not literally every single hour).

Furthermore I tried dropping their sales an email but have not got any sort of response yet (albeit its only been over a day but not even a confirmation or anything).

I will probably try to drop them an email again but was just wondering if anyone has ever had a live chat w/ BurstNET reps before?

Internet Relay Chat - IRC Host

Oct 25, 2005

I'm in need of a simple IRC shell host.

We run an IRC bot service which interacts with our websites database, but currently the server does not support outgoing IRC connections.

I'm wondering if anyone can suggest a good, stable host.

It simply needs to have SSH, PHP, and support outgoing IRC connections of course

It will be connecting to a remote SQL server, so SQL is not needed. I'm unsure about how much bandwidth I need, I'm sure its little to none. 50MB would probably suffice on webspace.
