View 10 RepliesI know C4D is a very good provider already. Searching about Zogmo, it seems no bad reviews at all. Houston or Dallas? Which one do you recommend? Going with Zogmo will save more money, especially with their current promotion
View 12 Replies View Relatedgetting a 1/4th rack from either Colo4Dallas or Zogmo. So far, both have been great in answering pre-sales questions and they both have great reviews as far as support goes.
My question comes down to more of the networking side. Currently, Colo4Dallas uses Level 3, InterNap, and Time Warner. Zogmo uses Cogent and Verio. I know that Cogent gets its bad rep from providers overselling their bandwidth, but are they really a good bandwidth provider as a primary provider? From what I have heard, InterNap has a better network, so it would seem that Colo4Dallas has much better bandwidth operation going.
Does anyone have any comments as to which network would have better connection speeds and uptime? I'm not necessarily looking for the better deal cost wise, but I'm looking for the better network/support.
I’m writing a review on Zogmo. We have only been with them for a few weeks, so this is more of an initial review of them.
Note: We have moved our equipment to Zogmo from Corporate Colocation (see other thread) over the past few weeks.
Background:
After spending a month and a half or so doing research on some colocation providers in Texas, I ended up choosing Zogmo. They had some great reviews here on WHT and Linn was always available to answer any questions that I had, even when places like Colo4Dallas were closed.
Sales:
Overall, Linn is a great person. He was always available via phone or email anytime of the day, which is something that was pretty important to me. There was a little bit of a delay in getting the contracts sent out to me and the initial setup was a little slow. I pulled my launch date a little close, but once I was in contact with Scott at Zogmo he was able to fill me in completely and communicate a launch date and status. At the time of sending my servers, I didn’t have my IP’s but the technical support guys at Zogmo got that all setup for me free of charge. As apart of my rack, I should have received a remote reboot port but they didn’t have one on hand, so they had to order one. But, we are still waiting for it to come in (The only thing I wasn’t completely satisfied with, but everything else makes up for it). I think that Linn just got a little too busy when we were finalizing the contract portion, but he was very lenient and he did work with me to get things done. Overall, I would rate sales a 9.2/10
Technical Support:
Overall, it’s the best I’ve seen so far. I’m able to get a hold of someone 24/7, which is very nice. The techs there are very knowledgeable and any of my questions are immediately answered or passed onto someone who would know. For the past few weeks I have been working with Scott at Zogmo on getting my rack setup and some miscellaneous issues. He has done a great job with keeping me updated and he went the extra mile every single time to make sure that there wasn’t a better way to fix something and to make sure it was fixed properly. Overall, I would rate technical support a 9.8/10.
Datacenter:
They defiantly did a superb job at setting up the datacenter. Everything is very neat and clean, and the datacenter is kept very cool. When they setup my first two servers for me, things were very neatly setup on my rack. I like to have things organized to an extent and have everything recorded in case I need it, and they obviously express the same desire. All the racks were kept closed and locked and they keep records of those coming in and out of the datacenter, so I felt as if my machines were secure. They also had a nice bench setup with a variety of tools and supplies that I was able to use (Not something you see often). Linn had no issues answering any questions that I had and he was happy to show me around the building. They defiantly have a very sound operation and I have been very pleased with my visit to their datacenter. I will give them a 10/10 so far.
My Visit
I spent a couple days in Houston, so I could get my servers setup on my rack. When I first arrived in Houston, Linn was happy to pick us up and take us out to dinner. They made me feel as if we were a huge client, when in fact we are one of the smaller fish in the pond. Without a doubt, everyone at Zogmo knows what customer service is and how it should be done – It seems that’s a little hard to come by these days. I was very impressed with the overall experience and I can say that my switch from Corporate Colocation was a good one.
Overall, I can say my experience with Zogmo has been great. I would defiantly recommend them to anyone looking for colocation in Houston. You won’t be sorry.
I will do a more detailed review of them a few months down the road, when we have had a little more experience with support and their network.
Does anyone know if they have power limits? Ie if I pay for 4u of space, can I throw in a dual xeon system with 16 drives and have them not complain? I'll call them monday, but in the meantime I am just curious if anyone is doing something similar. I don't see anything about power limits on the site.

View 8 Replies View RelatedThis will be an ongoing review on my experience with Colo4. I will update it as time goes on. Our experience comes from having rented servers for the past few years and wanting more server and more control, at less cost. Going colo made a lot of sense to us, so we finally took the plunge.
We first approached C4D six weeks ago after reading the reviews posted here. The initial phone call with Patrick Chapa was pleasant, but brief. I really just wanted to get down pricing and learn a little bit more about the facility.
Fast forward to a couple of weeks ago. We were ready to make the server purchase, so it was time to nail down all the details regarding the contract. Gave Patrick a call back.
He was very straightforward, which I very much appreciate. He listened to what we needed, and made suggestions based on that, without trying to push anything onto us we didn't need. In the end, we still came in $500 less than our monthly budget (Patrick knew our budget all along, and I have to think he could have charged us more based on this knowledge, but didn't). We ended up going with a full rack, 2x 20a power drops, 10Mbps premium, 20Mbps value. C4D also provided two remote access APC PDU's and a 2960G switch with a hot backup.
Contract was signed and immediately a ticket was setup in their support area asking all kinds of initial setup questions. We also went on and placed the order with Dell for the servers (Friday afternoon at 3pm EST) and to our suprise, all servers arrived at C4D on Tuesday afternoon around 2pm EST. The switch C4D was providing arrived a few hours later. By 10pm EST the switch was setup, as were the pdu's, servers and their individual drac's.
The two support people I've dealt with so far have been Marc U. and Ricky V. (won't post their last names in case they don't want them posted). They have both been very helpful, even answering a couple of pretty silly questions on my part.
I put in a new ticket this morning and it was answered within 8 minutes by Ricky, with a promised resolution time of 1.5 hours (there's no real rush on this particular issue).
I'd give Patrick a score of 10 (1-10 scale). He was a true pleasure to work with. I'd also give post-sales support (so far) a 10.
The only thing I wish C4D had -- and I know I am certainly in the minority here -- is an MCSE or MCSA on-site, or at least a list of references to local providers that have been approved by C4D. In our business (vacation rentals), we have many homeowners who are out of town and have no idea which local vendors they can trust. We provide a pre-screened list of vendors for them and it is something they greatly appreciate.
So far, no regrets at all going from renting servers to colo, and no regrets going with C4D.
if someone can suggest a colocation company with better support than Colo4Dallas. I have been with them for a few years now. Our server was down all last night. The only way to report that is through their web-based ticketing system.
If tickets could be created with an email, I can trigger an email if my monitoring company reports that server is down but they don't allow that. I also had a bad experience with firewall support they provided. My server was down for two days because they did not do any tests after making changes. They did apologize for screwing it but that's about it.
Is this to be expected from COLO companies. Am I expecting too much from a Colo company? Are there colo companies in DFW Metroplex that have better support?
I want the absolute best quality possible, Im open to other providers also
ips and about 5-10 servers tower based
1-5mbps
I honestly cant decide Ive used both of the above and am torn between this
I am looking to a add a GIGE right now in Colo4Dallas.
Which provider would give me the best bang for my buck?
Is there anyone here using Cogent network at Colo4Dallas? I have a request for file transfer hosting, dont need premium network.
View 14 Replies View RelatedI just got a notice from Leslie at Colo4Dallas that they are raising their rates by 20% effective June, 2007. Did anyone else get this notice yet today? And in order to get the lower price (20% increase), I will have to sign a 12 month contract. So for example, my 1/2 rack will go from $399 to $478, or if I choose to stay month to month, the new rate will be $600.

View 2 Replies View RelatedI'm having some problems with my script, i think its not really a script error...
- Script connects to rapidshare to send a file to the user
- Rapidshare allows unlimited parallel connections, so no problem
- Though some of the time (not alot), i get a connection error.
- Connection error is: Empty reply from server
- Strange thing is, i get this when i do a curl connection to rapidshare
- ping, telnet, fsockopen, all is working, but it seems that i don't get a reply from the server
Well, is this a problem on my side or on the rapidshare servers?
Also, is there a problem to fix this?

Can anyone from LSN help me and restart his server? This time is much worse than Cpanel license being expired. At least at that time websites worked...
We are using Apache 2.2 prefork on Debian GNU/Linux.
Sometimes it happen to us that we have really lot of apache processes (slots) in state "sending reply". This is not freed for several hours. Server status looks like:
The question is how it is possible that some apache process can be locked to one client for several hours. Other clients are being served by free slots, however what if we will have used all the slots and not freed them?

I opened up a chat session earlier today and got a response, however they never replied to any of my questions - is there anything up over there?
Is their pre-sales support usually this poor? Before contacting them I checked out their reputation on WHT and they looked like their product and support were top notch.
Being in Australia can sometimes make speaking to live chat a bit difficult, however I've tried at various times through the day/night and at all times it's said the live chat was online.
