Sentris/JustEdge - 7/5 Month Reviews

Sentris/JustEdge - 7/5 Month Reviews - Great time with them so far!
About half a year ago, I got my first server with Sentris.com, after hearing some scetchy reviews I was worried about going with them - but I thought I would give them a try.
7 months later and now having a few servers with them they have provided a fantastic server to me to run ClanDrive.com's shared/other services off.
They have always been quick to fix any problems on their side of things which I could not handle, they provide an excellent bang-for-a-buck.
When I first signed up on my first server with them, just a few problems but they were resolved quickly. The server was in stock so I did not experience their fantastic setup times (usually within the same day), so the next day I had the server setup for me and an appology for the wait. There was also a cPanel licensing problem but they also sorted that for me in the same day.
Other than that, it has been a grand experience, they have provided an excellent service on my servers and support, now getting 30 minute replies from them which I consider good compared to old experiences.
They've forwarded any tos violations or phishing reports to me of any of my clients, allowing me to deal with it myself, understanding that I am running a webhosting company.
They've given me a good basis for ClanDrive, proud for them to be my provider.
-----
Justedge, another fantastic service providing some high quality bandwidth for me, some higher bandwidth usage plans for me.
I use Justedge for higher-spec plans and some VPS accounts.
Just one problem, on setup time, was due to a fault motherboard causing some serious errors but they replaced it within a day, also saving my data + configuration too, so no need to start over.
They've responded to my support queries slower than Sentris but its acceptable, they provide a good service for their money, always helpful and help me resolve my problems.
Have helped with sorting out e-mailing problems and have been helpful on spam issues.
-----
I'd recommend companies to anyone who is wanting a good service, with good uptime, hardware and staff. They've provided a great experience to me with multiple servers each.

I'm considering migrating a server I rent from NAC to Sentris (in part because Sentris's DC in Seattle is a few short hops from me and most of the systems users). Eventually I might want to do some colo with them and put my own 1 or 2 U server in.
I've noticed that they got some not-so-great (OK, BAD) reviews in the past, but I haven't seen anything recent.
Has anyone had recent good or bad experiences with them?

can I hear some reviews for 2007/2008 for sentris.com ... I read some really bad reviews from 2004/2005 and I am not really sure if I should take them. Do they provide 99.9% uptime? Is their network good/fast?

This is an honest review of how I spent my summer dealing with trying to have a simple dedicated server setup with Sentris.com, and how they failed.... miserably.
I initially ordered the server from them because of an ad they posted here at WHM. The advertisement explicitly stated:
"Free Full Management with any Centos and cPanel/DirectAdmin or Windows 2003 with HC.
We'll do security updates and fix any issues you may have, only on software we preinstalled. We'll even help installing any 3rd party software when requested. We'll also secure your server for free, installing things like Zend, mod_security, APF, BFD, Rootkits Protection, EAccelerator, ClamAV, etc. (some of them require a cpanel/whm)."
The ad from them is still posted and you can read it yourself. The key words in this paragraph is "Free Full Management".
I could give you a full blow-by-blow, detailed-by-date breakdown of everything that went wrong, but I've decided to just hit a few highlights since this post will be pretty long anyway.
By the way, this is the first time in my life I have ever posted a negative review about any specific company, product, or person. But I feel it is important to the WHM community that they are aware of how Sentris.com operates, since they are still advertising here.
1. The first thing that happened, was that the initial hard drive setup was incorrect.
They put the two separate physical hard-drive into one volume. When I point this out, the answer was pretty much that it was my fault since I didn't specify that I wanted two separate hard drives. I should have run away from them right then. I posted about this here without naming Sentris by name.
2. Fantastico was not installed-- as per the initial order. When asked about that, they sent me a link to netenberg about how to install it myself.
3. The first days, the server was down-- a lot. Finally they replaced a cpu fan.
4. The server was still unavailable, and the reply to the server-down ticket, was that I should unplug the server from the network. (!)
5. Finally, they said they moved the hard drives "to a completely new server, with new motherboard and all". And a new IP, so of course, I had a lot to do.
6. They never DID get Fantastico installed, so I had the great folks at Platinum Server Management to do it.
After the move to a "new" server, things would run ok for a while, then it would go down. Then at the end of June they had a "Scheduled maintenance downtime because of "recent huge attacks we had in the last week".
The server itself was hacked at least twice and got spam reports. I and PSM, did all we could do to keep up with it. We changed the server's root password several times. But somehow....
Sentris' ticketing system is bizarre. They require the root password to be given on every ticket, and it's on a non-secure form/site. Also, the only way to look up past tickets is to send a request, and you're sent an email with a list of ticket numbers that you then have to lookup like a search. And sometimes prior tickets, and/or comment or answers just completely disappear. They sometimes answer a current question, on an old ticket also.
They use ModernBill for, well, billing, but put up a warning NOT to use ModernBill's ticketing system because they don't read them.
The one and only time I ever got ahold of anyone at MSN Live Chat (which they advertise) to report that my server was down, I was curtly told to submit a support ticket, and the person immediately signed off.
I never could get an actual human person using their phone support number.
I first started requesting credit as per their SLA in July. No response for weeks.
August was fairly ok with just periodic downtimes. In the first part of September, a phishing site was hacked into the server, and Sentris took the server offline. (Without any notice... no email, no nothing.) I do understand why it was a point of concern, but a little heads-up would have been appreciated. And whatever happened to "Free Full Managed" part?
After a couple days (when I finally figured out what happened) I canceled the server account 30 days in advance, just like their TOS demanded and paid the last invoice.
After many, many requests for credit for ALL the downtime I had had since the server first went live in June, they finally came back at me and said they don't give credit for scheduled maintenance, and attacks, etc. BUT they would credit my account with 25% of the monthly charge on the next month, since there was currently an open invoice and they couldn't change it.
I canceled the server on 09-06-09... via emails and a support ticket.
So far, I have rec'd two requests for payments for the October period. The latest email came in just this morning.
I emailed them again, telling them again that the server is CANCELED but I don't have any hope they'll notice. I even attached screenshots of the original cancellation ticket.
From these experiences, it is my belief that Sentris.com is more than likely a one-man operation that SLOWLY goes through "normal" support tickets to relay to the datacenter and farms out "server down" tickets to a different company that actually responds.
Not only has this experience been expensive, but is also the single-worst experience of any customer service I have ever experienced.
If you are really wanting a dedicated server with "Fulll Management" look somewhere else than Sentris. Well, really, if you wanting any kind of dedicated server I would suggest using someone other than Sentris.
In September, I got a dedicated server with Burst.net to replace this one. The pricing was equivalent, and I feel like I'm in heaven now, after being in H*ll.

I have been with them for 2 month now and thought they needed a review here.
I was searching on WHT 2 month ago and came across a couple of ads and decided to go with Sentris their 1TB and 2TB Bandwidth amazed me. Had a chat with the Msn guy and paid for the server, although the setup took more than usual, it didn't really bother me as long as i got the server.
Got the server and I got to work, no major issues, although i ran with an issue a week or two later where openssl or something like that was broken on the server. I wasn't too happy with their support and had quite an argument with the support team as they were taking long to reply.. (lol) Then Cpanel asked me to reload the OS which would then solve the problem. So asked sentris to do it and it was done really quick and there i was again at it.
I also appologised for being rushy but the were helpful.
Since then no issues at all... Although i find their support slow at times.
So in short..
Great Servers, Good Hardware
Great Uptime, Not a single downtime since am with them.
Support is also great (although they are sometimes slow, but they hit the spot)
The guys are really helpful.
Price is good also.
I really recommend Sentris for your Servers.

I have a dedicated server with Sentris for one month, and I am very happy to be with them ! The server is very good, never down or latency... I'm very satisfy.
I have this server :
Xeon 2.33 Ghz
4GB
320GB Hard Drive
1.5TB BW
20 IPs
For $119 per month.
My server has been installed within few hours, very fast service and support.
I am in France, but the load of my website is very great (the DC of my server is PCCW), never latency...

I jumped on one of the twitter daily deal they have - I was pretty happy with their services:
Speed of sites 4/5
Support Level 2/5
Anyways, they have a package for the 2.66 dual quad, They were out of it so they give me a 2.33 for 10 dollars less, I was like okay that fine.
Since the invoiced already paid, I thought I was going to get 10 dollars credit back and the next billing will be 180.
But no, I still get 190 dollars invoice, so I take it to the billing department (which only 1 person work there by the way) So while trying to get this solve, my server was pulled off without any telling so my sites was dead.
So I called their 800 number, and it was something wrong with their line, all break up and static. So I went online, and wait for about 5 minutes, the (only one) billing rep was there. She told me to pay now and we will talk to the (only one) sale rep that deal me with.
Overall, the speed of the server was good, but the support side is HORRIBLE.
Maybe is true that they only have 1 sale rep and 1 billing persron, but at least tell ahead in the ticket if you going to pull the server off While sorting out the problem.
I feel they are unprofessional and very unimpressive support. I paid their invoice and hoping to move out next month.
Stay way from them if you need any kind of support because it does take a long time. for technical support I think you pay a monthly fee or 65 dollars per hour. For billing you get the only one (Ju pak) and for sales you get the only one (Dave)
Overall, you can tell that I am not happy with them pulling off my server and you need a 24 hours waiting time for EACH reply.
So think twice when their site advertise IMPRESSIVE SUPPORT with an * on their site.

I've had a server for over a year now, performance used to be great and support was close to instant.
They don't offer any kind of control panel or bandwidth graphs/usage, but this wasn't much of a problem since there were no issues.
Suddenly, everything went horrible within an instant.
1st of September:
My server's networking kept going down for 15 minutes every few hours (84% packetloss), a traceroute showed it was a problem at their router.
I filed a ticket and got a reply saying 'I'll have someone look into this now.'
3rd of September:
I got no reply besides that one, so I filed another ticket.
5th of September:
2 days later they replied with 'I will check on this momentarily.'
7th of September:
Again no reply besides that one, and today another one: 'I will follow up with an engineer later today for you.'
After a few hours: 'Can i reboot your server?' (I replied instantly giving them approval).
Again after a few hours: 'OK, I will be working tonight to keep an eye on your server throughout and so I can pinpoint something right as it happens.'
Exactly 2 hours after that last reply, I replied 'It's down right now'.
And now, 5 hours after that I still haven't received a response
But there is more...
All they did in those 7 days was:
Code:
fsck -y
umount -a
shutdown -r now
umount -a
fsck -y
mount -a
mount
mount -o,remount rw
mount -o remount,re
mount -o remount,rw
mount -o remount,rw /
mount
cd /scripts
cd /
ls
cd
ls
w
who
exit
Their site mentions 'Our support department is opened 24/7 by ticket system or phone.'.
While I'm typing this, I'm still on hold after 40 minutes of waiting with a massive phone bill as a result.
I am desparate..
I have little options, an IP change will upset even more customers (I already lost several due to this downtime) and their support is simply impossible to contact.
Several of there engineers have an account here at webhostingtalk which show they are online every single day, so my ticket is simply being ignored.
Their BBBOnline program has expired too:
Code:
# Non-payment of the annual BBBOnLine license fee or BBB Accreditation dues;
# Failure by the business to maintain its BBB Accreditation, or abide by the program standards or dispute resolution requirements of the BBBOnLine program

I have had a node with Justedge since July last year, they seem great for the most part, until things go wrong and you need their help.
Here are their responses to reboot tickets which I have sent in, all critical, all with things like "Reboot Needed" "Server reboot" "Server down" as the headers, all with either "Emergency" or "Critical" as the priority.
Here are the response times, when I sent in the ticket and got the first reply. I thought it might of been an isolated incident at first that they took a while to respond to an urgent ticket like this but it has seemed to not be the case.
Ticket submitted -24 Jul 2008 06:40 AM
Response - 24 Jul 2008 09:12 AM (Took 2hrs 31 minutes for a response)
Ticket submitted - 09 Jan 2009 02:46 AM
Response - 09 Jan 2009 10:50 AM (Took 8hrs 4 minutes for a response)
Ticket submitted - 10 Jan 2009 04:13 PM
Response - 10 Jan 2009 04:18 PM (Score, actually a quick one)
Ticket submitted - 10 Jan 2009 04:43 AM
Response - 10 Jan 2009 09:03 AM (Took 4 hrs 20 minutes for a response)
Ticket submitted - 03 Apr 2009 07:04 PM
Response - 04 Apr 2009 11:06 AM (Took 16 hrs 2 minutes for a response, luckily the server started working again in this time, aparently there were small power issues with something, although no detailed reason actually given)

We've been using Sentris mainly for our server needs over the past year, today marks our 365th day with the provider!
Past reviews:
[url]

---
Overall they've been fantastic to us. Good support when we need it, fantastic network uptime (only recall one time when there were some network problems).
When we've requested for custom things, in terms of hardware or other they are happy to help. They've always seemed to be offering new things with their services over the year, improving their bandwidth carriers, adding more. On the front of it, their site doesn't seem too much, doesn't express the good level of service which I've gotten, probably would expect more from an old site like that.
I don't know what else to say, since they've been pretty great with no problems - suppose its harder to write a review when nothing bad has happened.

Sentris has a pretty good deal (IMO) posted over in the advertising forums, free CPanel and good specs for what I am looking for. I started trying to call their toll free number yesterday with some sales questions before buying. I tried about 6 times yesterday with no answer and left 2 messages out of those calls. Today I decided to hell with it and went ahead and ordered the server I was looking at. Also, I decided to prepay 12 months as they only bill you for 9 when you do, a savings of around $450. The ordering process was problematic. I am splitting this server with some friends and I had them both send me 1/3 of the cost the server to my paypal since Sentris accepts this. I do not have a bank account on my paypal but I do have a verified Visa which I intended to use to pay my 1/3. ie, 2/3 from paypal balance and remainder on my Visa. Upon completion of the order and attemping to pay with paypal, I was informed that I could not use either my paypal balance or my credit card for "this transaction" and I needed to add a bank account. This is no good since it takes days and I don't really want to do that anyways. I tried to re-place the order by just paying with a credit card (no paypal) with the intention of paying the entire amount myself and just getting the money from my friends later. I was informed that this was not possible because my "email address was already in their system". I called them, left messages to no avail. Finally I found a welcome email for the first order in my GMail spam box. It including a billing link which I was able to login to and submit a new payment on the invoice using my Visa.
Almost immediately I got a confirmation email that the Visa was processed and authorized. Unfortunately this is where I have stalled. The invoice in their billing portal still shows as unpaid and outstanding. I have received no notice or confirmation that my server is being deployed or an ETA as to when it will be finished. I have called probably a dozen times today and left several messages with their sales and billing departments, neither of which pick up. I have submitted a helpdesk ticket:
I ordered a server this morning and pre-paid 1 year. I charged the payment to my Visa but ModernBill is showing as unpaid even though I received a confirmation email stating the charge was authorized. I need to make sure payment has been received and marked on my account so that deployment of the server can begin and be completed ASAP. Thanks.
It has been 6 hours with no response from this company. They even have an MSM messenger address on their site which I attempted to communicate with to no avail. This user has been away, then active, then idle, then away, then active, and signed on and off several times throughout the day, never responding to my messages.
I understand that 6 hours is a relatively short time for server deployment, but I am not looking for the server to be done. I simply want re-assurance that the invoice is marked paid and things are even moving forward. I fully expected to wait 1-2 days for deployment. My biggest fear is that this is a sampling of the level of service I will be receiving from this "company" over the next 12 months. I have probably called their number 20 times over the last 2 days and left 4-5 messages. No answer and no reply to the message. I have opened 2 tickets and sent 3 lengthy messages to their MSN messenger contact.
Beware, do not trust this company with your money. I am seriously considering calling Visa and issuing a chargeback as this company has made no effort to show me they intend to give me what I paid for.

I'm coming upto the end of my third month with Sentris.com
Their prices are good, support has had good response times and resolution on problems I have had. They seem to sort out nearly anything despite only being on basic management.
I haven't had any downtime, on a good network and machine. When I first ordered my server they didn't have the said processor in stock, said they would get it the next day or that I could upgrade to a better processor; which I did and my server was up within a few hours .
I've seen a few negative reviews about Sentris from the past but not many new positive reviews so I though I'd right one for them.

I've signed up with Wiredtree for a Managed VPS 12 days ago.
I know it's not enough time to write a review. But I decided to write my first impression then keep you updated by writing a new review at the end of each month, so expect one at 12 February.
For now, these guys are simply the best I've tried.
They reply you in 15 minutes or less and if it took them more, 20 minutes or something, then be sure that they're investigating your problem. If you can't wait for 15 minutes, then go ahead and give them a call on their toll-free number and they'll be with you second by second. Their support wont just solve your problem, but they'll educate you telling you what caused the problem and how did they fix it.
I'm solicitous about security. But with these guys, I finally sleep peacefully knowing that my VPS is well secured.

Perhaps if i tested my upload on speedtest.net if i had a ovh server that is on a 1 gbps port. What would the upload be?
