I'd like to know about peoples experiences with them or if there are any topics that can help me out.

May 6, 2009I need to host some video materials and I don't want to use something big like a VPS or dedi, shared will be enough for me. That's why I think quillhost.com service will suit my needs well as they support ffmpeg on their shared service.
Do you think my idea is sound?

Mar 27, 2009I would like to share my experience with quillhost.com to all WHT people.
I ordered their VPS WHT-S2 on 3/7/09 and it was very good as i got the email that VPS is setup and all within 30 mins.
I was impressed with their response. May be automated but still it is best.
So after some 10 days or so when i want to setup the VPS for my webserver, i was not able to ping the IP they gave. I tried to go to the control panel and it did not allow me to login. Whenever i try to login to CP, it ask me to contact the Administrator.
So i open a support ticket with them on 03/21/09. They came back saying this VPS suspended by abuse team within 10 mins of me providing the information they asked for. I thought it is a great service. This was on 22nd.
On 25th the tech replied with this
"As i haven't received a response from dc, i'll mark it for
unsuspension. This will be done in few hours. I'll have the reason of
suspension to you at the same time.
Sorry for the inconvenience."
They came back with this answer after me updating the ticket every day. I try not to be pain to these people but i guess i should.
So i waited and still waiting with no other reply or access to the VPS.
As far as i remember, i did not even use this VPS for an hour if it is. I have servers with other hosts and have no issues for about 5 years now. BTW that is dedicated hosts for 5 years now.

Jan 22, 2009I signed up for a VPS-2048 plan from QuillHost for a Xen VPS in Chicago, IL on Jan 14th, 2008.
First off, I must say this is the WORST experience i've ever had with a VPS provider.
Their "24/7 Tech Support" is a complete joke. I think they mean they will respond to your critical ticket within 24 hours without a meaningful answer to your request.
My server has been offline for at least 50 hours time in the time i've been hosted with them. They've stated "Kernel error" each time and have negelcted to give me any information after that. I've had to go nosing around with HyperVM panel and reinstalling my operating system 3 times to get it to work before they told me thats what I should do. I did that twice now and its gone back to the same problem as before.
Now last night I spent upwards of 3 hours installing Debian 4, installing MySQL, TightVNC, PHP, OpenSSL and configuring it all to make it work.. It was online for 7 hours then crash... Now I have nothing. I've reinstalled the OS 5 times now, tried a DIFFERENT OS with no success. I cant even SSH to my VPS or Client connect with the HyperVM panel.
If you are looking for a decent server, QuillHost is NOT the place to go to.
Poor Customer Service, SLOW Response times, and not to mention it took them 24 hours to actually SETUP my server.

so i think i can have a test, it was nightmare!
you will get these:
1, Downtime is 50% ,even you buy their host the first day!
2, support ticket will be deal after 24 hours! even more.
3, when you want a refund, ticket will be deal in 5 minutes,
and they will not give you money back!

Nov 18, 2008i found a nice ovh server which is a quad core with 8 gb of ram on a 1 GBps port. I saw a few reviews and i heard people say that they will lower your speed or something. What i need to host is a game server which uses a lot of upload. At least 10 mbps at MOST excluding users that have to download a 5 mb file. Perhaps if i tested my upload on speedtest.net if i had a ovh server that is on a 1 gbps port. What would the upload be?

Midphase Reviews?
Jun 13, 2006Anyone here used Midphase? Over at WHT you can find as many negatives as positives for almost anyone you chose. Anyone at Sitepoint used them? I'm very cautious about switching and have checked into several web hosts. I would stick with the one I have now, but server load spikes seem to come at the worst times and stay around for hours.

Server is very reliable. Yes, I encountered some issue months ago, because some DNS attack and password issue on ASO's staff, but they handle the situation very good and they was honest about it.
SUPPORT
Their support is fantastic. Actually, I seldom contact support since everything is okay, but when I did, their reply is fast and prompt.
COMMUNITY FORUM
They have good and active community forum.
PRICE
Their price is reasonable. Yes, ASO do not offer "unlimited" but their prices compared to quality is okay.

was lookin their plans for one of my friend, their plans look good
may be even impressive but after the mess around with the newly dooming/scam hosts such as hostchum, sarora, resellerways, it makes me think more than twice before selecting an host
See, I don't wish to raise up a discussion on the hosts again, its just my way of lookin at those recent dumb hosts which let lots of users in pain, including one of my dear friend.
I know its good to think twice, but it has made me lose faith really badly in the hosting industry thanks to the kiddies and scam hosts, to gain confidence back in the hosts might be a real tough buy
I know serving, wiredtree are still around but I am referring to the low-budget hosts..

Aug 6, 2009Since moved to Seattle area 2 years ago, I searched for a Supermicro-server-built vendor closed to Seattle. I found some, but their pricing seem expensive. Some others are very slow in response, even from other WHT users, they seem good. Recently, contacted Scott Lee at Kerbo System, and I believe I have found a good one.
As usual, I sent a lot of pre-sales questions. Scott is very nice, to answer all questions with details. He shows a good experience in server hardware building. Then, I decided to order a new dual Nehalem system with them. Transaction went smoothly, and I have server on time. He even took some photos of servers for me, before shipping out, so I can show to customers. He also noted down for me all series numbers of all parts in server, so I can keep track, in case something wrong.
At first, I am not very impressed with their home page, but please don't let you down. Drop Scott an email with your requirements, or what you are going to do with server, he will reply with his advice, what he's thinking the best in your case. A good service, especially for business likes ours, not in the US.
So, a short reviews about Scott Lee and Kerbo System. I would highly recommend them to anyone needs Supermicro servers in the West coast.
Scott, thanks for a good service. We are looking for a long term business relation.
