1 Year On From Sentris

May 29, 2009

We've been using Sentris mainly for our server needs over the past year, today marks our 365th day with the provider!

Past reviews:

[url]

---

Overall they've been fantastic to us. Good support when we need it, fantastic network uptime (only recall one time when there were some network problems).

When we've requested for custom things, in terms of hardware or other they are happy to help. They've always seemed to be offering new things with their services over the year, improving their bandwidth carriers, adding more. On the front of it, their site doesn't seem too much, doesn't express the good level of service which I've gotten, probably would expect more from an old site like that.

I don't know what else to say, since they've been pretty great with no problems - suppose its harder to write a review when nothing bad has happened.

My Experience So Far With Sentris

Apr 9, 2009

Sentris has a pretty good deal (IMO) posted over in the advertising forums, free CPanel and good specs for what I am looking for. I started trying to call their toll free number yesterday with some sales questions before buying. I tried about 6 times yesterday with no answer and left 2 messages out of those calls. Today I decided to hell with it and went ahead and ordered the server I was looking at. Also, I decided to prepay 12 months as they only bill you for 9 when you do, a savings of around $450. The ordering process was problematic. I am splitting this server with some friends and I had them both send me 1/3 of the cost the server to my paypal since Sentris accepts this. I do not have a bank account on my paypal but I do have a verified Visa which I intended to use to pay my 1/3. ie, 2/3 from paypal balance and remainder on my Visa. Upon completion of the order and attemping to pay with paypal, I was informed that I could not use either my paypal balance or my credit card for "this transaction" and I needed to add a bank account. This is no good since it takes days and I don't really want to do that anyways. I tried to re-place the order by just paying with a credit card (no paypal) with the intention of paying the entire amount myself and just getting the money from my friends later. I was informed that this was not possible because my "email address was already in their system". I called them, left messages to no avail. Finally I found a welcome email for the first order in my GMail spam box. It including a billing link which I was able to login to and submit a new payment on the invoice using my Visa.

Almost immediately I got a confirmation email that the Visa was processed and authorized. Unfortunately this is where I have stalled. The invoice in their billing portal still shows as unpaid and outstanding. I have received no notice or confirmation that my server is being deployed or an ETA as to when it will be finished. I have called probably a dozen times today and left several messages with their sales and billing departments, neither of which pick up. I have submitted a helpdesk ticket:

I ordered a server this morning and pre-paid 1 year. I charged the payment to my Visa but ModernBill is showing as unpaid even though I received a confirmation email stating the charge was authorized. I need to make sure payment has been received and marked on my account so that deployment of the server can begin and be completed ASAP. Thanks.

It has been 6 hours with no response from this company. They even have an MSM messenger address on their site which I attempted to communicate with to no avail. This user has been away, then active, then idle, then away, then active, and signed on and off several times throughout the day, never responding to my messages.

I understand that 6 hours is a relatively short time for server deployment, but I am not looking for the server to be done. I simply want re-assurance that the invoice is marked paid and things are even moving forward. I fully expected to wait 1-2 days for deployment. My biggest fear is that this is a sampling of the level of service I will be receiving from this "company" over the next 12 months. I have probably called their number 20 times over the last 2 days and left 4-5 messages. No answer and no reply to the message. I have opened 2 tickets and sent 3 lengthy messages to their MSN messenger contact.

Beware, do not trust this company with your money. I am seriously considering calling Visa and issuing a chargeback as this company has made no effort to show me they intend to give me what I paid for.

Sentris Reviews

Feb 6, 2008

I'm considering migrating a server I rent from NAC to Sentris (in part because Sentris's DC in Seattle is a few short hops from me and most of the systems users). Eventually I might want to do some colo with them and put my own 1 or 2 U server in.

I've noticed that they got some not-so-great (OK, BAD) reviews in the past, but I haven't seen anything recent.

Has anyone had recent good or bad experiences with them?

3 Month Review Of Sentris.com

Oct 9, 2009

This is an honest review of how I spent my summer dealing with trying to have a simple dedicated server setup with Sentris.com, and how they failed.... miserably.

I initially ordered the server from them because of an ad they posted here at WHM. The advertisement explicitly stated:

"Free Full Management with any Centos and cPanel/DirectAdmin or Windows 2003 with HC.

We'll do security updates and fix any issues you may have, only on software we preinstalled. We'll even help installing any 3rd party software when requested. We'll also secure your server for free, installing things like Zend, mod_security, APF, BFD, Rootkits Protection, EAccelerator, ClamAV, etc. (some of them require a cpanel/whm)."

The ad from them is still posted and you can read it yourself. The key words in this paragraph is "Free Full Management".

I could give you a full blow-by-blow, detailed-by-date breakdown of everything that went wrong, but I've decided to just hit a few highlights since this post will be pretty long anyway.

By the way, this is the first time in my life I have ever posted a negative review about any specific company, product, or person. But I feel it is important to the WHM community that they are aware of how Sentris.com operates, since they are still advertising here.

1. The first thing that happened, was that the initial hard drive setup was incorrect.

They put the two separate physical hard-drive into one volume. When I point this out, the answer was pretty much that it was my fault since I didn't specify that I wanted two separate hard drives. I should have run away from them right then. I posted about this here without naming Sentris by name.

2. Fantastico was not installed-- as per the initial order. When asked about that, they sent me a link to netenberg about how to install it myself.

3. The first days, the server was down-- a lot. Finally they replaced a cpu fan.

4. The server was still unavailable, and the reply to the server-down ticket, was that I should unplug the server from the network. (!)

5. Finally, they said they moved the hard drives "to a completely new server, with new motherboard and all". And a new IP, so of course, I had a lot to do.

6. They never DID get Fantastico installed, so I had the great folks at Platinum Server Management to do it.

After the move to a "new" server, things would run ok for a while, then it would go down. Then at the end of June they had a "Scheduled maintenance downtime because of "recent huge attacks we had in the last week".

The server itself was hacked at least twice and got spam reports. I and PSM, did all we could do to keep up with it. We changed the server's root password several times. But somehow....

Sentris' ticketing system is bizarre. They require the root password to be given on every ticket, and it's on a non-secure form/site. Also, the only way to look up past tickets is to send a request, and you're sent an email with a list of ticket numbers that you then have to lookup like a search. And sometimes prior tickets, and/or comment or answers just completely disappear. They sometimes answer a current question, on an old ticket also.

They use ModernBill for, well, billing, but put up a warning NOT to use ModernBill's ticketing system because they don't read them.

The one and only time I ever got ahold of anyone at MSN Live Chat (which they advertise) to report that my server was down, I was curtly told to submit a support ticket, and the person immediately signed off.

I never could get an actual human person using their phone support number.

I first started requesting credit as per their SLA in July. No response for weeks.

August was fairly ok with just periodic downtimes. In the first part of September, a phishing site was hacked into the server, and Sentris took the server offline. (Without any notice... no email, no nothing.) I do understand why it was a point of concern, but a little heads-up would have been appreciated. And whatever happened to "Free Full Managed" part?

After a couple days (when I finally figured out what happened) I canceled the server account 30 days in advance, just like their TOS demanded and paid the last invoice.

After many, many requests for credit for ALL the downtime I had had since the server first went live in June, they finally came back at me and said they don't give credit for scheduled maintenance, and attacks, etc. BUT they would credit my account with 25% of the monthly charge on the next month, since there was currently an open invoice and they couldn't change it.

I canceled the server on 09-06-09... via emails and a support ticket.

So far, I have rec'd two requests for payments for the October period. The latest email came in just this morning.

I emailed them again, telling them again that the server is CANCELED but I don't have any hope they'll notice. I even attached screenshots of the original cancellation ticket.

From these experiences, it is my belief that Sentris.com is more than likely a one-man operation that SLOWLY goes through "normal" support tickets to relay to the datacenter and farms out "server down" tickets to a different company that actually responds.

Not only has this experience been expensive, but is also the single-worst experience of any customer service I have ever experienced.

If you are really wanting a dedicated server with "Fulll Management" look somewhere else than Sentris. Well, really, if you wanting any kind of dedicated server I would suggest using someone other than Sentris.

In September, I got a dedicated server with Burst.net to replace this one. The pricing was equivalent, and I feel like I'm in heaven now, after being in H*ll.

Sentris 2 Month Review

May 9, 2009

I have been with them for 2 month now and thought they needed a review here.

I was searching on WHT 2 month ago and came across a couple of ads and decided to go with Sentris their 1TB and 2TB Bandwidth amazed me. Had a chat with the Msn guy and paid for the server, although the setup took more than usual, it didn't really bother me as long as i got the server.

Got the server and I got to work, no major issues, although i ran with an issue a week or two later where openssl or something like that was broken on the server. I wasn't too happy with their support and had quite an argument with the support team as they were taking long to reply.. (lol) Then Cpanel asked me to reload the OS which would then solve the problem. So asked sentris to do it and it was done really quick and there i was again at it.

I also appologised for being rushy but the were helpful.

Since then no issues at all... Although i find their support slow at times.

So in short..

Great Servers, Good Hardware
Great Uptime, Not a single downtime since am with them.
Support is also great (although they are sometimes slow, but they hit the spot)
The guys are really helpful.
Price is good also.

I really recommend Sentris for your Servers.

Great Time With Sentris So Far

Aug 13, 2008

I'm coming upto the end of my third month with Sentris.com

Their prices are good, support has had good response times and resolution on problems I have had. They seem to sort out nearly anything despite only being on basic management.

I haven't had any downtime, on a good network and machine. When I first ordered my server they didn't have the said processor in stock, said they would get it the next day or that I could upgrade to a better processor; which I did and my server was up within a few hours .

I've seen a few negative reviews about Sentris from the past but not many new positive reviews so I though I'd right one for them.

Sentris/JustEdge - 7/5 Month Reviews

Nov 14, 2008

Sentris/JustEdge - 7/5 Month Reviews - Great time with them so far!

About half a year ago, I got my first server with Sentris.com, after hearing some scetchy reviews I was worried about going with them - but I thought I would give them a try.

7 months later and now having a few servers with them they have provided a fantastic server to me to run ClanDrive.com's shared/other services off.

They have always been quick to fix any problems on their side of things which I could not handle, they provide an excellent bang-for-a-buck.

When I first signed up on my first server with them, just a few problems but they were resolved quickly. The server was in stock so I did not experience their fantastic setup times (usually within the same day), so the next day I had the server setup for me and an appology for the wait. There was also a cPanel licensing problem but they also sorted that for me in the same day.

Other than that, it has been a grand experience, they have provided an excellent service on my servers and support, now getting 30 minute replies from them which I consider good compared to old experiences.

They've forwarded any tos violations or phishing reports to me of any of my clients, allowing me to deal with it myself, understanding that I am running a webhosting company.
They've given me a good basis for ClanDrive, proud for them to be my provider.

-----

Justedge, another fantastic service providing some high quality bandwidth for me, some higher bandwidth usage plans for me.

I use Justedge for higher-spec plans and some VPS accounts.

Just one problem, on setup time, was due to a fault motherboard causing some serious errors but they replaced it within a day, also saving my data + configuration too, so no need to start over.

They've responded to my support queries slower than Sentris but its acceptable, they provide a good service for their money, always helpful and help me resolve my problems.

Have helped with sorting out e-mailing problems and have been helpful on spam issues.

-----

I'd recommend companies to anyone who is wanting a good service, with good uptime, hardware and staff. They've provided a great experience to me with multiple servers each.

VolumeDrive A Reseller?

Apr 9, 2008

I'm still looking for a new server. VolumeDrive.com has interested me, but so far I've been unable to get a real price quote out of them (four requests).

With the recent problems with a different reseller I want to make sure I don't deal with a reseller.

The VolumeDrive site says they have their own datacenter, but it appears all their traffic is routed via burst.net (hostnoc.net which is BurstNET). I suspect that VolumeDrive is just a reseller for BurstNET, but honestly I don't know for sure.

Anyone know the bottom line on VolumeDrive? I'd like to find out before I give one last attempt to get a price quotation for my config.

Review For Volumedrive

Apr 29, 2008

Its been a long time since I have been there with VolumeDrive and I think they do deserve a review here.

I started off with volumedrive in November with 1 server and the very next month got another one.

Their uptime has been amazing. I have rather enjoyed their really good uptime. Their prices are really cheap as compared to others but the services offered are really great.

Jeff and Josh make an amazing team and help you out all the time even tho their servers are unmanaged ones. They have great connectivity but the only problem is the BurstNET network they are on. I have had a few problems with BurstNET and that is the reason I am shifting out of VolumeDrive.

They are soon going to be moving to their own datacenter and services (I hope) would only improve then.

Volumedrive 3 Months Review

Apr 23, 2009

I thought I could share my opinion on VolumeDrive after being with them for a few months. I always appreciated when I could find in-depth reviews from hosting companies when I was looking for one so I hope some peope will find this review useful.

First of all, here my plan with them:

Quote:

AMD Athlon64 3200+
1 GB DDR2 Ram
120 GB SATA Hard Drive
3000 GB of bandwidth on 100MB port
2 IP addresses
Ubuntu Server 8.04 Linux

This package costs me $49.95 per month.

It all started when I contacted them to have more information on their services and what they have to offer. They replied very quickly and sent me a document detailing every offer they have and how their plans work. It's a shame that all that information wasn't available on their website, they proposed roughly 3 different dedicated solutions on their order form when you can actually choose a bunch of other options. Anyway, I asked a few other questions (like if they could install Ubuntu even if it wasn't listed in the available OS, and they had no problem in doing this). Again, they replied quickly. I made my choice and as I made my first payment, my server was online 24 hours later, as stated in their e-mail.

Communication with Volumedrive's staff is always great, I've had an issue one time where my internet connection was realllllly slow. I e-mailed them and it took a few minutes before I received an answer to my e-mail with someone trying to find what was wrong. We exchanged a few e-mails trying to find what was the issue and the issue got resolved in no time. Aside from this problem, I've never had any network or hardware issue (still have a fresh new server though)

I also personnaly think that their prices are far superior to what other companies offer. Their plans are flexible and if I want a hardware upgrade for example I know I can just contact them and we'll work out the details.

The only downsides I can give them is that their website is missing a lot of information. When you are looking for a server you may not want to spend time contacting each company by e-mail to ask question and have more information, you rely on the website to give you a lot of details. Also, their invoice system is not so great. You receive an e-mail saying you need to pay them and they only accept paypal. When your payment is done, you don't receive any confirmation e-mail. It's not bothering me much for a 50$ server, but I'd want a more conventional billing system with automatic renewal if I had a big business going on with them.

All in all, I really like volumedrive! I'd recommend it for everybody looking for a low cost dedicated server, they're fast, professional and helpful. You just need to send them an e-mail to get the plan that works for you so tow thumbs up for Volumedrive!

Should I Go With BurstNET, VolumeDrive Or Hivelocity

Apr 29, 2009

I have three similar offers from three different companies

1) BurstNET
Q6600
2GB RAM
250 HDD
2000GB transfer (not sure if its 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps... I think 10)
5 IP addresses
DirectAdmin unlimited domains
Basic Management
First month free

2) VolumeDrive
Q8200 or Q6600 (my choice)
4GB RAM
500 HDD
10 Mbps unmetered
Not sure how many IP (I forgot to ask =X)
Plesk 30 domain
Basic Management

3) Hivelocity
Q8200
2GB RAM
500 HDD
1500 GB over 10 Mbps (I wish it was 100 Mbps...)
6 IPs
DirectAdmin Unlimited domains
Silver Plan management

The prices for all the above are similar (only a few dollars here and there).

VolumeDrive has the best deal spec wise, but I really like the first free month w/ BurstNET (gives me a chance to "try out their service") but I know Hivelocity has the best reputation. Its like highschool drama all over again .

Volumedrive 12 Months Review

Nov 14, 2008

I've been with Volumedrive for approximately a year and I have mostly a great experience with them. I currently have 1 server with them which is being used to mirror some patches for a popular MMORPG.Sales 10/10

I was trying to find out how much bandwidth was being provided by VD. The site looks professional but I didn't much information about the connection. I received a reply from Josh shortly after sending them an email, and received a list with the servers that were available along with the bandwidth information. It is unbelievable that 10Mbps is offered at such a low price.

To be honest I was a bit skeptical, so I decided to give them a try. I got a
Celeron Conroe and paid a one time fee for the RAM.

The deployment took a while since they were out of stock, since it was nothing urgent I patiently waited.Network 8/10

The network is pretty good at VD, it wasn't all that great when my VD server was still at the BurstNET's location. I was glad to know that VD were now going to be operating out of BurstNET and noticed that they have a link with XO that doesn't seem to go through BurstNET. Outages on Burst's network usually meant my server would go offline, but since the XO peering I haven't had an outage along with Burst.

I did have some network problems recently after they replaced a switch, it seemed like a QoS profile was set and it took some time to fix (server speed was some way capped at 5Mbps). I am having a little network issue at the moment but I'm still trying to figure out (with the help of VD) whether it is something on my server's end instead.Support 10/10

It amazes me that I'm getting a personal level of support from either Josh or Jeff. I hope they are getting enough sleep to keep up with the work! I usually receive replies in few minutes to a max of a few hours (depending on the problem).

I had a hardware issue on around February (hard drive failing). The drive was replaced and my server was up and running by the next day. However this new hard drive seemed to be failing as well (guess a bad batch of them) and it was promptly replaced by a brand new 160GB (I had a 120GB drive) Hitachi.

Reboots are not bad either, ranging from 5 to approximately 20 minutes in my experience so far.Billing 10/10

The billing part is what worries me at providers, I once had my server offline at another provider because I hadn't received that month's invoice. So far no problems at VD, sometimes the usual invoice date passes but I was reassured that it would be sent eventually (and they are).Overall experience from above: 9.5/10Conclusions:

If you are looking for a server with a good level of support, and a bit tight on budget I'd strongly recommend VD. I hope they keep up with the service as they expand.Domain hosted: navarus.org

Review For VolumeDrive (VD) (1 Month+)

Mar 30, 2008

did not want to mix up my 2 reviews so posting separately for www.Volumedrive.com.

Being their client for about a month or more, using their services for my separate proxy hosting server.

Let me do the rating :

Support: 9/10 (dunno what happened but one of the reboot requests took some time, email issues, or some other isp issue)

Friendliness: 10/10 (Josh seems good enough guy and can handle some my demanding nature i think )

Hardware: 9/10 (well a week or 2 new server lost its Power Supply, so deducted 1, but hoping no other hardware failures occur, was replaced in 30 mins or so if i recall correctly and it was on weekend).

Network: 10/10 (so far no problems got some special setup with josh about bandwidth usage and port speeds, no network outages i noticed so far).

Ok after that some comments:

They can improve on maybe confirming what can be offered/ feasible for new server, beforehand . Example, i thought i would get a Hardware Firewall Protection as offered by Josh in initial pre-sale questions, but later i found out that due to Direct Admin that would not be possible, i am sure even in pre-sale discussion was mostly about getting DA. What would have pleased me was to cover it up they could have upgrade DA to Cpanel and tried to get the protection as promised at no extra cost. But i suppose that would have meant no profit and losses for them, so i did not pursue them regarding the same.

Oh one more thing , if only they had a price list for special servers or something on website that would have been great, if VD folks need help i can create a page or something for them, for different servers, after all i am by profession now a webmaster/designer/coder etc etc..

But don't let that alone dilute/corrupt your mind about VD, if they were bad trust me i would be the first one to let everyone know. Cause all good deeds bunny never forgets, and those who hurt bunny can never get away with it....
