Just in the process of upgrading to new box Plesk 12 (Ubuntu 14.04LTS). ON the previous (plesk 10) I was able to disable ftp services by editing /etc/xinetd.d/ftp_psa - this doesn't seem to be an option now. How to do this on plesk 12?

I have been trying to enable server-wide compression using deflate.My server is running a fresh install of plesk panel 11 installed over a fresh centos 6 64. The configs and settings (aside from files I mention) have not been changed at all from default.
I have created a new file in /etc/httpf/conf.d/deflate.conf This file is being included when Apache is restarted, so that's definitely working and the html doc compresses. But not matter what I do (I have tried every combination Google would find) css and js files will not compress. At my previous workplace we also used a Plesk server and nobody could ever get compression working there either.
I set multiple mail servers (eg media-26.com) in the black list of server-wide mail settings but i still get spams from these mail servers..does it work properly?

View 2 Replies View Relatedfor a server-wide anti-spam solution I can implement on a Linux server. The mail queues are constantly getting backlogged with thousands of messages which bring the servers to a crawl. There are really two issues the solution needs to address.
1) Spam
2) Spam sent to other people that have the from address forged with our clients' email addresses.
We have spam assassin installed for individuals to use, but there's got to be some sort of solution that can clear out the vast majority of the junk before it even gets to the queue.
It probably goes without saying, but the solution needs to be open-source or have a very inexpensive license.
I am unable to switch from qmail to postfix via the control panel. It opens a new window that just hangs and never loads. While waiting for it to load, I see these 2 processes running..

But after waiting 20 minutes, the browser never loaded and the two proceses remain. So I killed both processes and removed /tmp/psa-installer.lock and started again. The same thing happened.
Is there a way to fix this? If not, is there an easy way to switch MTAs from the command line?
I can't find how to swith my Plesk into PowerUser mode. There is no such menu in Tools & Settings -> Interface Management. This is what I see:

View 1 Replies View RelatedI have a server runnning WHM/cPanel and want to purchase an SSL certificate that I would set up on a specific domain. ex: secure.myserver.com, and then allow individuals hosted on my server to use that domain (instead of their own) for SSL purposes, if they didn't want to purchase their own certificate. (ex. They would use: secure.myserver.com/~customer/myfile.php)
My question is, what kind of SSL certificate would be appropriate for this. Could I purchase a single-root certificate from RapidSSL and set it up on that domain?
I am running web hosting server with cPanel, and the Exim settings should be at it's defaults.

i have a server with whm/cpanel and would love to have custom error pages that work server wide not just for a specific domain. I have tried adding the "ErrorDocument 404 errors/404.htm" to the httpd.conf file but it doesn't work.
I have no trouble getting custom errors to work for a specific domain but can't seem to get it to work server wide.
Has anyone else tried to tackle this and actually had success?

I want to combine my www with non www site via a 301 permanent redirect. My goal is to combine my page links in hopes that one day Google will increase my page ranking (which is sadly at 1). I don't think that combining them now (about 100 links each) will do anything to my PR but I do want it set up properly now so it's all set.
I have been reading all over the Internet on how to do this and working with my site host: Go Daddy. It's been a struggle but I believe that because I'm on a shared Windows server, there is not a solution for me to do this. If I was on a dedicated server I could do it through IIS but that option is not available for those on a shared server.
A posting I read from someone else who is also on Go Daddy (on another site) said he went and transferred his site from Windows to Linux and then was able to do the 301 redirect.
I don't understand what Windows, Linux, Apache, etc. means. My site is very simple: advertisingspark dot com. Can I transfer to Linux? Should I transfer to Linux or Apache?
Is this going to be too complicated for me? Or should I have someone else host my site? My annual fee is due in about a month so it's a good time for me to switch if I should.
I don't know if it is relevant but I had a website designer create my site and then I edit it myself in a cheap editing tool. I know basic HTML (I'm sure my designer is cringing!) If I switch to Linux or Apache, can I no longer work in html files?

I have a client who we set up a "forwarding" domain on PLESK Windows. He now wants to have u shost for him.
How do I switch between the two types of accounts?
I prefer not to simply delete the site and re-create it, because he has email on the server which is important to preserve.
I go to Mail>Mail seetings, select all my OFF domains and click Acticate/Deactivate Services, select Enable from the drop down and click OK, but the mail service stays OFF.

But I found a promo from myinternetservices.com that may end up as close to 50% off my current price with similar specs. What experiences have people had with either company for dedicated servers? Mainly I'm asking about MyIS since I've already experienced Beachcomber. Does it compare? Which one is better, etc.?
View 1 Replies View RelatedI recently switched my site tdnforums.com over to a new server about a week ago. Some folks are still complaining that they are viewing the forums on the OLD SERVER. Perhaps DNS is taking a long time to switch over but get this... for many people tdnforums.com is switching BACK and FORTH between the old server and the new server. So, on some visits it'll resolve to the new server... on other page refreshes you'll be viewing the forums on the old server. What the heck? This has actually happened to me a few times myself so I know that they aren't crazy.
Why is DNS doing this? Sometimes the site resolves on the old server and then the new?
What's going on here? Why isn't it flipping over 100%? Are there any things I can check as troubleshooting, or is this normal? I've had some long DNS switches before but never this "back and forth" stuff...

For example, to disable a particular perl script running on my system on over 100 accounts in the /cgi-bin/file.cgi I want to chmod the file on every account that it comes up on that /cgi-bin/file.cgi needs to be chmod'd to 0.
Anyone know how to do this thru ssh or another method?
