I saw a one port KVM/IP switch, simply a little case that fits in your hand, with 2xPS/2 ports, a VGA and a network output (it didn't even require an extra power input, although that isn't a requirement). I remember it was about 55 euros (about 80USD).
Does anyone remember such a little small thing? I can't find that catalogue anymore..
If you find one with a USB port for virtual media (like 32MB..)
different 48 port switch for a rack. Any recommendations? We are currently using an old Cisco 2948G which has about 30 of the ports being used and pushes around 130mb at maximum peak through its ge port.
Its got nothing special running on there other than SNMP (if you can call that special) so guess that is my only basic requirement other than its an managed switch. Reason for change? Found a nice Cacti script to monitor the switch's CPU and its hitting 1.0 solid at peak periods in the evening which looks (well to me anyway) as 100% CPU usage which can't be a good thing.
Currently I am using Linux + cPAnel and using the port 25 for email sevrer. Currently we facing 1 problem is, some user's ISP is not support port. May I know how can I add additional port into server and allow users to send mail by different port?
My hosting company has been great. The server is in a secure place, but I can't help but wonder: what if a bomb hits there or something? What could I do? With all the websites I host, I would like to see what kind of backup plan there could be. Is there a way to have a server on the other side of the world automatically be switched to if it were to go down?
I currently have a dedicated server with beachcomber.net and have had a great experience. But I found a promo from myinternetservices.com that may end up as close to 50% off my current price with similar specs. What experiences have people had with either company for dedicated servers? Mainly I'm asking about MyIS since I've already experienced Beachcomber. Does it compare? Which one is better, etc.?
I recently switched my site tdnforums.com over to a new server about a week ago. Some folks are still complaining that they are viewing the forums on the OLD SERVER. Perhaps DNS is taking a long time to switch over but get this... for many people tdnforums.com is switching BACK and FORTH between the old server and the new server. So, on some visits it'll resolve to the new server... on other page refreshes you'll be viewing the forums on the old server. What the heck? This has actually happened to me a few times myself so I know that they aren't crazy.
Why is DNS doing this? Sometimes the site resolves on the old server and then the new?
What's going on here? Why isn't it flipping over 100%? Are there any things I can check as troubleshooting, or is this normal? I've had some long DNS switches before but never this "back and forth" stuff...
I have two quad core processors and load is like 15.
May it be caused by switch if it doesnt let traffic trough properly?
if dmesg grep eth shows 100 full duplex is it normal or should it be 1000 full duplex?
how can I make it 1000 full duplex on centos 5?

Just in the process of upgrading to new box Plesk 12 (Ubuntu 14.04LTS). ON the previous (plesk 10) I was able to disable ftp services by editing /etc/xinetd.d/ftp_psa - this doesn't seem to be an option now. How to do this on plesk 12?
I have an office internal website and I opened a port in the gateway of my office (7080) to this website (server )'s 80 port. That makes this website open to public as office has static IP. And then when I view the site from home . it's fine. But when I tried to login, the site is using a pop-up, I guess it's http authentciation, login, I was redirected to a url without my port number any more, that stops my access to the site as obviously I would.
I've got a CentOS 5 box that I want to cap/throttle the speed of the port to ensure that no more than 50 meg is passing in either direction at any given time.
- I know you can do this with FreeBSD using ipfw but that's not an option for me at the moment...
- I also know you can do this with some reasonably decent switching gear but again that's not an option. It's not my switch and they don't provide capped ports.
So, the question then becomes is there any way to lock the port down to 50 meg using only linux itself?
I wonder whatLs more important on a shoutcast server, to get more bandwidth per month as possible, or a faster port connection?
I have test a 2 hours music stream at 128k bit rate and was only 5MB per listener ! This is not to host 24/7 radios. Its a project to host DJs /Live Bands at a maximum of 128k, with no more than 2 hours events.
Also each event between 50-80 listeners, and not at same days or hours.
About the port connection, what this means? : Port: 10/100MBPS SWITCHED VLAN
Is it shared and from 10 to 100mbps?
I am trying to find the best deal with dedi servers. Have at this moment a unlimited bandwidth /100Mbps shared, but it seems the CPU is too low (AMD Sempron 3100), as I canLt seem to create more than 40 shoutcast accounts (and no client is streaming, just ON), and the server load goes up to 4.5 !!
So, I am looking on the market , as I saw better deals with better processors (Pentium4, Core 2 Duo), and much cheaper (below $100), but they only offer 2000/3000GB bandwidth.
Do you still have to add each port individually to Server 2008's Firewall like we did on Server 2003?
If so, will the guides that were put out for 2003 work on 2008's? I want to be sure before putting all these ports in....if I can just specify a range instead, it would be much easier!

I had setup an apache home server. here the 80, 8080 ports are blocked . So I made my apache to listen to 4040 port. but the problem now is ,i use cloudflare service to point my domains to my server. now its showing error when i give my ip because the port is not 80. i tried putting dns host point to xxx.xx.xxx.xx:4040 in cloudflare but shows invalid ip ...
Yesterday I installed tomcat on a RHEL 4 + cPanel and httpd 2.0.63 server using easyapache3, process was ok, jsp pages are loading fine using http://site.com/example.jsp , but servlets, are not working using http://site.com/example, how ever, if I load http://site.com:8080/example it loads the servlet perfect.
I read something about redirecting all traffict from port 80 to 8080, but you know.. this is a shared server, and that would affect all customers on the server.
So, mod_jk seems to be the only solution, now I read many documents over the web, but no one seems to be working to configure apache2 and mod_jk that is installed using easyapache3 script.
In my httpd.conf file, i have this:
LoadModule jk_module modules/mod_jk.so Include "/usr/local/apache/conf/jk.conf" At jk.conf i have this content: ...
I currently have a dedicated server, which is hosting several websites. I'm happy with the service I'm getting, but I'm trying to save money. I'm paying $120/month for the dedicated server. Spending half of that each month would be great.
Right now, the websites are either static websites, or are simple database driven websites with not much traffic. My server load averages are pretty close to 0.01 I would think a VPS would be fine for my needs. However, I may have a site I will host in the future that is database driven and uses Ruby on Rails. It would probably have 10-20 users online at any given time, and maybe several hundred subscribers total.
Would a VPS still work in this instance, or should I stick with a dedicated machine?
