Mar 18, 2015Is it enough to restore the full server backup via the web interface of Plesk to get everything running fine after a reinstall, or is there something else I should do ? I have all kind of backups (server, domains, customers). My server is running Plesk 12 on Ubuntu 12, and I think I will have Ubuntu 14 on the new installation. My backups are on a server on the same local network than my server.

Mar 8, 2015Plesk Panel 12 uses a proftpd FTP server, with the TLS module pre-installed and configured.
Many questions and/or problems arise when trying to connect to the FTP server over a FTPS connection. In (almost) all cases, the disability to connect with FTPS is due to
a) the lack of configuration of passive ports, AND
b) firewall settings, enabling connections through before mentioned passive ports.
The passive port range can be configured by
adding a line to /etc/proftpd.conf, stating: "PassivePorts <start> <end>", OR
adding a separate file with name <filename>.conf to /etc/proftpd.d/, with the contents of <filename>.conf stating: "PassivePorts <start> <end>"
And note that
- <start> is the first port of the port range, in theory any value above 1050 can suffice,
- <end> is the last port of the port range, any value below 65000 (!) can suffice,
- the extension .conf is required when using a separate config file,
- the directory location /etc/proftpd.d/ is required when using a separate config file,
- one should always limit the port range, i.e. it is not desirable to open up a lot of ports,
- it is desirable to have the <start> value above 20000, in order to prevent conflicts with other programs, using a specific port (for instance, port 8443 is also being used),
- it is not necessary to restart proftpd after configuring the passive ports.
The firewall settings have to be changed to allow connections through the passive ports that have been opened for FTPS connections and note that
- only open up the port range (not more) in the firewall settings,
- it is only necessary to open up ports in the firewall settings of the FTP server,
- it is not required to open up ports in the firewall settings of the sending server.
Many issues have been arising when setting up the FTP Backup Repository.
In general, the passive mode checkbox has to be selected, when encountering issues.
The explicit use of the passive mode allows for proper configuration of the FTP Backup Repository and note that it does not matter whether FTPS or normal FTP will be used.

May 7, 2015When I specify log rotation settings for domain xyz.com in Plesk panel I expect them to be saved in /etc/logrotate.d/xyz.com file, at least this is the expected behaviour according to Plesk12 Admin Guide: [URL] ....
Apparently, it doesn't happen and I don't have xyz.com file in /etc/logrotate.d/
Log rotation doesn't seem to work either, at least it doesn't work for error.log
I read somewhere that log rotation feature has to be specially enabled in Plesk but I couldn't find specifics anywhere.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Backup Manager - Exclude One Domain?
Sep 19, 2014I would like to have the Backup Manger run a full server backup but exclude one domain that has tons of material which does not need to be backed up as often.
Years ago, Plesk did have the option to choose the domains to backup (Admin login). However, It was a problem at times because I would forget to include new domains.
I do not know of any similar option present now to exclude a domain from the full Scheduled Backup.
I am thinking that I could set up a reseller (myself), put all of the sites I would like to backup more often in that account and run backup from that level.
The Problem with including all of the sites is that the SUPER LARGE site, bogs downs the backup process and I really do not knew it included as often.

Oct 29, 2014Seems if I want to back up a domain's emails to a remote server (3x a week) I might be able to accomplish that with a Scheduled Task / Cronjob? I have a weekly full domain backup from the Plesk scheduled backup. But I can only set one backup per client. So I'd like to backup email separately, several times a week.
I found this:
# /usr/local/psa/bin/pleskbackup –domains-name yourdomain.com –only-mail -v
But I'm looking to send to a remote FTP repository. Can it be done with "Scheduled Task"?

Aug 9, 2012I just installed Plesk 11.0.9 Update #8 on a CentOS Linux Server and found a new FTP-server running and listening on port 21. I wanted to deactivate it or at least change the port number to anything else. But in the config file /etc/xinetd.d/ftp_psa there is a comment:
#DO NOT MODIFY THIS FILE BECAUSE IT WAS GENERATED AUTOMATICALLY,
#SO ALL YOUR CHANGES WILL BE LOST AFTER YOU UPGRADE PARALLELS PLESK PANEL.
So I can't deactivate the FTP-server with the line "disable = yes" because the default file is restored after a while (I can't pinpoint the event when it happened). In the Plesk frontend I can't see any possibility to deactivate the server or change the port.
In the file above, there is mentioned another config file "server_args = -c /etc/proftpd.conf" but changes in that file are ignored for whatever reason. There I changed the port number but without success. It's still listening on 21 even if the file says otherwise.

Plesk 12.x / Linux :: Restoring From Another Installation
Jul 26, 2015I've had nothing but issues trying to restore a backup from another plesk installation.Running Plesk 12 on CentOS 6. I installed a php extension which required php 5.4. Yum updated our php version, which broke a couple of our sites. In trying to use yum to remove php 5.4, it also removed several components to plesk.
I then attempted to reinstall plesk and restore our backups from the previous day, but ran into several errors related to the way plesk hashes passwords in backups (as I now had a new key to hash against, they wouldn't work right). I solved that problem by running the fix passwords utility . But now I'm getting the following errors, I suspect the first one is the main problem.

I recently received this messsage from in my mailbox "Unable to generate the web server configuration file on the host <nsxxxxxxx.ovh.net>" which is coming now every hour for 4 days now.
I first tried to regenerate an apache conf file with the magic on my Centos 6:
# /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/httpdmng --reconfigure-all
but it gives me this output:

Feb 25, 2015I have a new CentOS 7, with Plesk 12, CentOS 7 by default has XFS filesystem.
I try migrate sites from another Plesk Server but Plesk agent say: "hard disk quota is not supported due to configuration of server file system" (my CentOS 7)
My CentOS7:
CentOS Linux 7.0.1406 64 bits
Plesk 12.0.36
My fstab
[root@ns ~]$ cat /etc/fstab
/dev/mapper/centos-root / xfs defaults,usrquota,grpquota 1 1

I added "usrquota,grpquota", then mount -o remount / ; but when I try quotacheck -fmv / I gest this:

quotacheck: Cannot find filesystem to check or filesystem not mounted with quota option.
but quotaon command works:
[root@ns ~]$ quotaon /

The problem here is why Plesk does not recognize quotas as enabled on CentOS 7??
If I try this command it seems good:
[root@ns ~]$ /usr/local/psa/admin/sbin/usermng --isquotable
0
Also I do this:
- Disabled Selinux
- Check all packages as quota, etc.

May 24, 2014I recently opened a new plesk account on another server and need to restore a backup from a previous server. Both plesk 11.5.
How can I do this ?
I don't have ssh or other access.
Can I just copy the guid ID off the new server and overwrite the extracted backup files?
Only issue I have with that is that a can't redo the XML file required for uploading backups to restore...

is it a way to launch the function reserveSpace and/or getMountSpace helper in shell ? to see the returned value ?
or can i launch /usr/local/psa/bin/pleskbackup server -c comand line to backup only the config ?
Plesk 11.x / Linux :: Cannot Set Personal FTP Repository For Backup In Another Server
Dec 29, 2014I have 2 identical servers: I'm trying to do backups from server1 to server2 and from server2 to server1.
In every server I setup a subscription just for storing backups.
If I configure Personal FTP Repository from server1 to server1 - the same server - it works (it gives a warning: backup on the same server is not safe).
If I try to configure Personal FTP Repository from server1 to server2 and vice versa, it gives me the following error:
Transport error: unable to list directory: Curl error: FTP: couldn't retrieve (RETR failed) the specified file
If I try to give a different password, it tells that the password is wrong: this means that server1 is able to connect to server2 and the ports are well configured (I hope).
If I connect in active mode from my PC with Filezilla to server1 or server2, same username and password, it works!
I'm not able to configure Personal FTP Repository and to backup to another server.

Oct 22, 2014I host a number of large sites (20GB+) on my VPS server running Centos6 and Plesk Panel 12. Due to the large sites I don't want to keep multiple backups on the actual server because it would take too much disk space. When I create a backup to the server's repository all is good, but when I click the green arrow to download the backup it takes a long time and then it fails with a timeout error. On some smaller sites it takes a while but eventually downloads the tar.
So my question: Is it possible to access the Server Repository via FTP? How and where would I set this up? Presumably it would be a better way to download these large archive files?

Plesk 12 does not create backups for Customers.
If we restarts the server, Plesk created again for 2 days backups and then again not. There are no errors present.
The backup should be loaded on a FTP backup server after the Create
This makes Plesk but only if you restarts the server. Otherwise, no backups are created or loaded on the FTP backup server.....

My Centos 6.6 has ProFTPD configuration setup only for webhosts so no root access. I came across SCP, but don't know how to secure that like a Pro. I have also heard about SSHFS for linux.

Apr 19, 2008I have a smart error of possible hard drive failure on a hard drive of a cPanel server. Before I ask for replacement of new drive,
I'm going to get a new hard drive as New Primary
and make the Old Primary as Secondary Drive (To Restore)
I have the complete manual to restore. However the last time I tried to do that same thing, the system OS crash because it cannot tell which one is primary, and which is secondary (Both is SATA)
My partition is
/boot 100mb
swap 2gb
/tmp 500mb
/ rest of disk
no LVM, installed on MBR
I remember the last time I read something about e2label to rename my hdd label which cause the OS crash when new+old primary was booted together.
