Opinions On Serverpoint.com Or A2hosting.com
Jan 4, 2008
I seen these two mentioned in a thread, but doing a search on either one here brings up nothing. Just thought I would get some opinions if anyone here uses either of these companies.

how is ServerPoint's VPS? If any one has their service? I just got mine there not long ago. The support were great and stuff. But, I notice that my site loads rather slow. Even slower than shared hosting at times.

ServerPoint are down (at least my dedicated box), and they are not answering the phones.
The web-chat guy told me that they are under heavy traffic, but couldn't tell me when they expect to be back up, or exactly what "heave traffic" meant - he didn't know if it was a DoS. However, funnily, their own Website is still up.
I've been with ServerPoint for 4 and a half years... I joined back when they were A+ Hosting. But now I am thinking that I may have to go elsewhere, as there have been a few problems with my dedicated server recently (all connectivity issues, not software).
Generally they have been polite and nice when I call, but I'm losing my confidence in their product and service.
Is anybody else experiencing any problems with ServerPoint?
Would anyone like to suggest a competitor that can do a good dedicated box for the $90-$100 range?

I am between these two what would you use for a very busy server that you will need support and no downtimes.
Cheap vps is offering the double of their plans as an offer.
Do you have any experiences to help me choose? My website will be really busy must be trustworthy and 24/7 support in case of problems.

I would heavily suggest against using ServerPoint.
They were ok my first month, only went down a couple of times. But when my 2nd month rolled around they charged my card more than my plan. When I contacted them about it they said quote
"where did you see that you was charged for $39.99...as per our record you was charged for $34.99".
However both my bank statement and the invoice THEY sent me showed $39.99
I expressed desire to cancel my service and they would not even refund me the unused month that they overcharged me for.

Quote:
As for MySQL, unlike other hosts, we don't mix web serving and PHP with MySQL database processing on the same servers. We dedicate powerful machines just to MySQL to provide your database based applications the fastest performance possible.
if ServerPoint.com doesn't mix them, it must influence on the performance of the webserver.

Which company would be better to choose for eCommerce hosting simplehelix.com or serverpoint.com?
The first one look like specialized in eCommerce hostting (only two plans, any type of eCommerce carts and magento dowloads, special server type) the seconed is just reliable and also provides support of any eCommerce carts.
What would be better? Where would you rather go?

Server: AMD Athlon(tm) 64 X2 Dual Core Processor 3800+
Use: my own sites and a few friends, 1 vB: 18K users, 1.2million posts, one IPB: 3K users, 370K posts and about 10 small html sites
so far...
Presales: 10/10, for a couple of days I went back and forth with many questions and different setups, each time they took the time to respond to everything I asked, if i needed more detail they answered, if I didnt understand something, they explained
Setup: 9/10, setup was near perfect, there was some miscommunication on the disks I wanted and the controller to make them work, but they communicated with me the whole way and server was deployed when i was expecting it, took a few days total but I didnt need or expect anything faster
Network: 9/10, no major problems, maybe 3 times in 3 months pings or tracerts were high for 10 minutes or less, each time I opened a support ticket the bottleneck had disappeared before they replied (within 10 minutes) I get 100ms response times from here in VA to the server in NV, west coast users get 25-30ms times, NO network downtime
Hardware/Server: 10/10, knock on wood, absolutely no problems, this thing has ran like a dream, server loads stay low, NO server downtime
Datacenter: 10/10, although I havent had to contact them for any issues i'll give them an initial 10/10 because they own all of their equipment and are onsite, if something breaks, they can walk into the server room and fix it, this is the main reason I chose SP, everything is in house
Support: 9/10, support has been great, SP is not fully managed, support answers anything hardware or network related without charge but you can buy "support" time for anything, and i mean anything else, they also have a 800 number for dedicated customers, response to tickets are within minutes, the only "downside" for me is that on weekends support for dedicated is only via phone, I actually prefer everything via a ticket system, the one problem i had with support was a non emergency ticket I opened on a Friday afternoon was initially replied too and then i guess support went home and I didnt get a response back till monday, no big deal, I could have called them and had it resolved (they are there 24/7), but a note telling me my ticket would not be responded too till monday would have been nice, I also use PSM as a second layer of 24/7 server management
Overall: 9/10, I would give them a 10/10 but we all know nothing or noone is perfect but they are close and they do listen to feedback, I still have a seperately hosted website with them since 2001, I look forward to having a server (or more) with them for just as long and longer
I look forward to creating another review when I reach 1 year, I hope this review has been helpfull

Not interested in reseller plans or any of that - strictly as a site for domain purchase and personal site hosting. I have them and am becoming very unsatisfied and looking for alternatives.

Based on my experience with their twin brand, Hostmonster, I would say that they should be just fine for a hobby site/playing around. I don't know about their support, as I didn't use it.

solarVPS opinions?
I did a search, and found mostly good things about solarVPS here. I want a little more re-assurance and hope that others that had good or bad experience with them can chip in on their VPS service.

I'm using Awardspace right now, but cannot say that I'm completely happy with them, mostly because of the downtime issues. It is up pretty much 99% of the time as they claim, but there are some issues with mysql database latency which from time to time make my site inaccessible, even thought the server is actually up.
Anybody else using this service ?
I'm talking about Awarspace paid, not free service

I am wondering what your opinions are regarding Ubersmith DE. Opinions from the ISP and the customer are welcome
We were first looking to write our own complete datacenter solution with integrated billing, ticketing system and all.
After seeing what kind of companies already are using Ubersmith DE, it has to be a good alternative!

I'm a non-techie trying to choose a dedicated hoster. From searching through reviews and prices, I've come down to Lunar Pages or Liquid Web. Would you please give me your opinions of these two, and if there are others that you feel strongly about instead, mention those as well? I would really appreciate it -- I'm very anxious about choosing a reliable company with good service, b/c I'll pretty much be at their mercy! (Life is hard for the non-technical
My programmer gave me these requirements: managed hosting, windows server 2003 or 2008, web edition, 2 GB ram, ms sql server 2005 or above, quad core processor from 1.8 - 2.4 ghz, firewall, automatic backup -- 10 GB, remote desktop connection.

Considering a dedicated box at Gigenet, as their configurations and prices look good. However, I don't know any customers there.
We're looking for a basic unmanaged box with decent latency to both coasts and non-idiotic people to respond to tickets.

I'm tired of waiting for my Slicehost (other providers seem capable of not needing a waiting list?) so I'm thinking of VPSFarm.
I've done a search on here but not found much bar a couple of mentions and some advertising from them.

new colocation provider, and so I've started a thread for each one that I'm seriously considering. I hope to draw on your collective experience to help me with this decision.
Anyone had any experience with Layer42 colocation in Santa Clara?
Thanks,
Matt Olson
Ruby Cloud
Some background on my requirements:
I'm looking for a single cabinet with 40amps and a pretty small bandwidth commit for now -- probably 1-2Mbps, but increasing to probably 20 early next year. I'd want 24x7 access, and really just need space, power, and network, not any managed services. I'm looking for a reliable provider with full redundancy throughout, good security, and a nice multihomed bandwidth mix on a single 100Mbps drop. I want to work with a stable company with a good reputation for constant uptime and good service.

I had the chance to work with the summit24 switches, and I personally liked them. It is straight-forward in my opinion for the Web Interface compared to others I have seen and the pricing seems to be reasonable.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of their switching devices.
