Rsync Palace - Opinions?
Jun 9, 2009Does anyone here use rsync palace? Their prices look good, but there is not a lot of company information, which I may need before recommending this service.

I did a search, and found mostly good things about solarVPS here. I want a little more re-assurance and hope that others that had good or bad experience with them can chip in on their VPS service.
I'm using Awardspace right now, but cannot say that I'm completely happy with them, mostly because of the downtime issues. It is up pretty much 99% of the time as they claim, but there are some issues with mysql database latency which from time to time make my site inaccessible, even thought the server is actually up.
Anybody else using this service ?
I'm talking about Awarspace paid, not free service

I'm a non-techie trying to choose a dedicated hoster. From searching through reviews and prices, I've come down to Lunar Pages or Liquid Web. Would you please give me your opinions of these two, and if there are others that you feel strongly about instead, mention those as well? I would really appreciate it -- I'm very anxious about choosing a reliable company with good service, b/c I'll pretty much be at their mercy! (Life is hard for the non-technical
My programmer gave me these requirements: managed hosting, windows server 2003 or 2008, web edition, 2 GB ram, ms sql server 2005 or above, quad core processor from 1.8 - 2.4 ghz, firewall, automatic backup -- 10 GB, remote desktop connection.
who here has experience? Is it phenomenal or awful?

We're looking for a basic unmanaged box with decent latency to both coasts and non-idiotic people to respond to tickets.
I'm tired of waiting for my Slicehost (other providers seem capable of not needing a waiting list?) so I'm thinking of VPSFarm.
I've done a search on here but not found much bar a couple of mentions and some advertising from them.

Anyone had any experience with Layer42 colocation in Santa Clara?

Some background on my requirements:
I'm looking for a single cabinet with 40amps and a pretty small bandwidth commit for now -- probably 1-2Mbps, but increasing to probably 20 early next year. I'd want 24x7 access, and really just need space, power, and network, not any managed services. I'm looking for a reliable provider with full redundancy throughout, good security, and a nice multihomed bandwidth mix on a single 100Mbps drop. I want to work with a stable company with a good reputation for constant uptime and good service.

I had the chance to work with the summit24 switches, and I personally liked them. It is straight-forward in my opinion for the Web Interface compared to others I have seen and the pricing seems to be reasonable.
I was wondering if anyone has had any experience with any of their switching devices.
What do you think about this cabinet style's ability to cool say 18-20 1U core 2 duo servers? [see attached jpeg.]
its got a fan in the ceiling of it. I have read that ceiling fans don't do much and its the front to back cooling that really makes a difference. Is this true?
If you don't like this type of cab, which type do you like?
Some information about my forum:
I run a VBulletin forum with - 575,614 post, 14,369 members and 2.9 million page views per month. On average there are 300 - 400 people on the site.
The server right now is a Linux CentOS VPS with 1.1 gigs of memory. The hosting provider keeps telling me that I need a dedicated server.
Question # 1 - In your opinion - do you think its time for a dedicated server?
The server I am looking at has these stats:
E8300
2 GB RAM
250GB HD
cPanel
Management
The price I was given is pretty good. So the offer is going to be hard to pass up.
Question # 2 - Has anyone here used Future Hosting for their dedicated server solution?
I made some data backup on one of the backup servers using rsync. How can I restore it to the new server now?
My account is ready on new vps and all I need is pull the data back from backup server to new vps account.
I used this command previously
Quote:
rsync -avz -e ssh /home/user1 backupuser@backup.server.com:user1
i have two srevers one is Dedicated Server and the secound is for backup .
well , i login to the backup server and creat ftp account .
i wanna make the server save the weekly backup .
the backup path is /backup
the copmany of the backup server said "
To RSync your data to your backup server, type:
"rsync -av --progress -e ssh @"
this will put all the files in your home
directory..."
i dont know how to use this command on the Dedicated Server .
Is there anything better then rsync to replicate files (twice a day) on servers located in seperate datacenters?
Looking for more of a free to cheap solution though will also be interested in the higher end solutions later on.
I search over the forum as many members recommend rsync over the backup option builit in cPanel/WHM. May I know why cPanel/WHM's is not recommended?

I am using BQbackup to auto backup my CPanel VPS and was wondering whether it is best to use CPanel's own backup service which automatically backs-up the vps daily or should I use the rsync script that bqbackup provides?
Which is easier to restore and more reliable?
