High Speed Connection For Office In San Diego

Oct 27, 2007

a faster internet connection in our office here in San Diego, because we are going to run a few servers out of the office.

Currently we have DSL, but the upload speed inst cutting it, our current plan is:

Download: 1.5mbps
Upload: 512kbps
1 Dynamic IP

We are looking for something with the following:

Download: 1.5mbps or greater
Upload: 1.5mbps or greater
1 Static IP Address

Can anybody recommend any solutions in particular? Is t1 the only solution? We want to keep costs inline, and under $150 a month.

FTP Server - High Speed / Capacity

I've been asked to look for a offsite ftp server solution as an alternative to having one inhouse attached to a 20-100mbps leased line. It will be used for storing ISO images of DVD's from client sites, must have a fast connection, reliable and full security.

Connection Speed Review

I have been working on this site only 1 hour so it is not finished. I just seem to be having really slow connection issues and want to verify this as my computer probably only has 1gb space left from the 300gb space I used so this could be causing the problem.

I recently swithced to HostGator.com Shared. I may need to go back to LunarPages.

FTP Connection Speed Is Different For Different Regions.

Feb 23, 2007

I have a client in the US who uses FTP server based in The Planet datacenter. He complains that since several days he experiences a way low connection speed (just 5 kbytes/s), while the speed to other FTP servers is at average 75 kbytes/s. So th eproblem seems to be with this particular server.

However, I tried the speed from Ukraine (where I'm based in). It is at the level of 100 kbytes/s.

RackUnlimited.com With Very Limited Connection Speed

Oct 16, 2009

I am using their RVPS-3 plan (30$/mo, 1024 MB RAM, 40 GB drive, 500GB BW) and I am pretty unhappy about the connection and response speeds of their servers - especially during traffic peaks in the US. The server is sometimes so slow that I have to wait 5-10 seconds for a simple HTML page to load. :/

However the hardware itself works fine and for the money is IMO a very good deal. Also tech support is fine, I've had 3 requests so far and all were solved almost immediately (<20 mins). Although during the setup stage they changed the OS WITHOUT letting me know due to installation of an admin panel. They quickly changed it back when I asked them, but it's pretty strange anyway.

It really is a pity that the connection speed is so bad, because other than that I couldn't say a bad word about them. Now I have to consider moving somewhere else...

High Speed Colo

Apr 3, 2007

a collocation facility that can handle the high demands of video streaming, live and on-demand. I am current peeking 90 megs on live streams which usually last for a couple hours, the on demand is not that high it’s about 10 mbs average. I am located in Jacksonville FL not that it matters but the closer the better. Does anyone know of any good collocation facilities

High Server Load / High Swap / Lots Of Httpd

Feb 20, 2008

I have a cPanel server with 4GB RAM

My server hangs time to time, once or twice a day. This is the last status when it happens.

Server Load 75.90 (2 cpus)
Memory Used 92 %
Swap Used 65.78 %

When I was still inside SSH when it happens, the processes I can see inside "top" are a lot of httpd processes.

So I "killall -9 httpd", I had to do it 30~40 times

#killall -9 httpd
#killall -9 httpd
#killall -9 httpd
x 30~40 times until no pid process found & the server load is back to normal.

Before that, I check httpd fullstatus, they look very normal, same goes to what I see inside WHM Apache status & cpu usage status.

At first I thought it was a memory problem after consulting with a server admin, so I replaced all 4GB new ram stick (such a waste)

Server High Load/high Mysql Usage

Jul 2, 2009

I have a site that is eating up my server resources and need to know what the best solution for this is. I'm thinking of getting another server just for mysql but do not know what specs the server should be to handle the current traffic/database load and have the site run smoothly without slowing down to a snail's pace.

An alternative is to get another server just for the videos being served and leave the database and html on the current server. This is where I'm stuck and don't know what route to take with this.

My current server stats:

Dual Xeon 5130
4GB RAM
250GB
50 Mbit/sec
CentOS 3.9

Website traffic stats:

15,000 visitors/day
150,000 pageviews/day
Serving videos

I've attached screenshots of top and bandwidth usage per day. Hopefully with this information you could tell me if I need another server or if there are any things I can do to the current server to help things move faster.

Server Back Setup

May 20, 2007

We have 2 harddrives on the server and a private network on the back end with limited storage space. Hard drives are SATA II (not in raid). As far as we know, 2nd harddrive is not used for anything yet.

We are new at this and any configuration suggestions would be helpful. What kind of a backup setup would you recommend? What kind of schema ie. full backups, incremental, data backup only, public_html backups?

Getting Our Server Back By Any Means

Sep 16, 2007

just wonder if anyone ran into this problem. We were collocating our server with a "certain" provider and decided to move it elsewhere due to their lack of service. Everything was going OK even the outrageous termination fee and the shipping fee that we had to pay. However, after the host received the payment they went completely silent on us ignoring all of our emails and phone calls. I've spoken with our lawyer who estimated the legal actions against them could cost us thousands of dollars. The physical cost of the server was about $2,000 so I'm not sure if legal action would be worth it. Anyone has any suggestions on what else we can try to get our server back.

IP From Our Server Company Blocked Because They Do Not Point Back To The Original

Jul 27, 2008

We have a server with a fine company, BocaCom. They are who the IP addresses are we use ultimately registered to. It seems we are being blacklisted by secureserver (isn't that Godaddy?) because the IP does not register to us for our outgoing email. It registers to BocaCom.

Is anyone else having this problem, and how to we get around it? We've contacted BocaCom and are waiting for their reply. Is this an IP issue or am I reading the secureserver reply wrong?

----------------
Dear Sir/Madam,
While there is indeed an rDNS record created for 72.35.xx.xx, it does not point back to the original A record. This will need to be updated before we can look further into unblocking the IP.

Server Download Speed

Sep 30, 2009

I've two shared hosting accounts, one is hostgator and other is godaddy.

I've uploaded a file (.flv) on hostgator and same file on godaddy.

here a link to both

Hostgator flv

Goddady flv

Now i am use a Download manager " free download manager" to download files
The hostgator file downloads at 17-35kb/s
The godaddy file downloads at 200kb/s

I am using 2Mbps dsl.

Also my hostgator cpanel loads slow. and other files are downloads at very low max 40kb/s.

What are the issues. I've contacted hostgator support and they say that every thing is ok on their end.

I have to stream videos on hostgator but the speed is too slow. and it buffers alot.
