Remote SQL Connect Web Hosting
shared hosting for multiple websites, but I have some specific requirements: 1) Remote connections to a SQL database (using SQLCompare) 2) ASP.NET 2.0 3) A decent control panel to set things like subdomains up Other features such as disk space aren't as important to me. Would You Turn Off Dedicated Server Without Notice
I am in the process of fighting a Hosting company on a dedicated server. It was turned off without notice a couple of months ago. They said I had not paid last years bill for this server (10 months ago). When I sent them the paypal confirmation number from last year finally they agreeed but said I owed an inflated 2008-2009 bill. The first bill I got was when the server was suspended. The bill increased over 20%. In order to get my clients back online I paid the increased bill but sent the initial price guarantee and asked for a refund of the difference. What I got was a half apology and the double talk below. I switched hosting companies and asked for a pro-rated refund and even though the server is paid up until Sept 2009 they have suspended the server. I am going to leave the hosting companies name out. "Dear Mark, As explained by Tom, the amount you paid is the amount that was due. Since you originally purchased your server, our costs have risen by approximately 46%. The increase in price for your server only represents approximately 16%. While in the past, we have been able to absorb price increases and not pass them along, unfortunately, on this occasion we had no choice but to pass along part of the increase - the increase applied is just over half the increase we have personally seen since the start of this year. We have been able to keep the increase low through additional cost savings and reducing our profit margins, but, there is a limit to that and we unfortunately hit with the latest increase we've been hit with. The issue with your server earlier this month was due to human error. We do not have any due invoices from 2007 (any unpaid would have been passed to collections), and as we are human, have gotten into the habit of simply looking at the day and month. One of my billing staff members alerted me that your invoice was overdue, believing it was a 2008 invoice due 1st August 2008 and requested that I authorise a disconnection. I then looked at it and also missed the 2007 date. Tom unfortunately does not have full access to billing details and cannot correct (nor view) errors such as that. In terms of the invoicing - the system expected a recurring payment, through the Paypal subscription, to occur automatically and this is why no invoice was generated. As your invoice last year was manually paid, there was no subscription to update and pay. As a result, I had to manually update your account to reflect the payment details and manually generate the invoice. The invoice in your account when you paid the invoice correctly reflected the $1274.20 value. One of the emails quoted above, which should have been received after the emailed invoice, stated "generated the correct invoice for the 2008 to 2009 billing period.". I am sorry if that wasn't clear enough.

My Email Server And Roadrunner - Where To Turn
i run a very small hosting company (about a dozen clients) on a windows 2003 server with Helm and the latest version of Smartermail (www.smartertools.com) for my email server. overall it works well but i have been experiencing problems lately when users on my email server try to send email to users at roadrunner (@nycap.rr.com). the messages always get delivered but sometimes they take hours to get delivered. when i look in my mail server logs i keep seeing: "RSP: 421 #4.4.5 Too many connections to this host. CMD: QUIT" so basically the message gets rejected by the roadrunner mail server and then when the server tries again to send the message it goes through. although sometimes it takes several attempts. i have gone back and forth with roadrunner about this. according to their pages it looks like i am being affected by their inbound rate limiting policy but they SWEAR that there is nothing on their end preventing me from getting my messages through to their server. i have tried calling them, and emailing them at several different numbers and addresses and they all give me some BS answer. my clients are really unhappy with the fact that their messages sometimes take hours to deliver, and i really don't know where to turn to get this resolved. i don't have this problem sending messages to any other provider or domain, just roadrunner and unfortunately most of my clients communicate regularly with roadrunner users.

Fast Server Turn Up + Colocation, Private Network, And Outside The Midwest
Is there a good dedicated server company that has fast guaranteed turn ups, allows colocation, a private network, and is outside the midwest? I want to colo my database server(s), firewalls, and switches but then use dedicated servers as web servers. Hopefully allowing me to add web servers very quickly as needed (someone getting /.'d). I would want the webservers on a private network only. Does anyone offer any type of service like this?

Server Back Setup
We have 2 harddrives on the server and a private network on the back end with limited storage space. Hard drives are SATA II (not in raid). As far as we know, 2nd harddrive is not used for anything yet. We are new at this and any configuration suggestions would be helpful. What kind of a backup setup would you recommend? What kind of schema ie. full backups, incremental, data backup only, public_html backups?

Getting Our Server Back By Any Means
just wonder if anyone ran into this problem. We were collocating our server with a "certain" provider and decided to move it elsewhere due to their lack of service. Everything was going OK even the outrageous termination fee and the shipping fee that we had to pay. However, after the host received the payment they went completely silent on us ignoring all of our emails and phone calls. I've spoken with our lawyer who estimated the legal actions against them could cost us thousands of dollars. The physical cost of the server was about $2,000 so I'm not sure if legal action would be worth it. Anyone has any suggestions on what else we can try to get our server back.

Server Is Back But Vps Never Start
After a downtime of my server i got my main server back but my vps never work. I am able to ping my ns1 and ns2 and get back correct ips. But not my vps ip. When i run vzlist -a i got in status running. Also in my shared server i got the server up and i can login to whm but my account doesn't work there also. All additional ip's in my server seems to not work and my DC told me that they are ok....

IP From Our Server Company Blocked Because They Do Not Point Back To The Original
We have a server with a fine company, BocaCom. They are who the IP addresses are we use ultimately registered to. It seems we are being blacklisted by secureserver (isn't that Godaddy?) because the IP does not register to us for our outgoing email. It registers to BocaCom. Is anyone else having this problem, and how to we get around it? We've contacted BocaCom and are waiting for their reply. Users Cannot Connect To Remote MySQL Server
I have a few users that have a hosting account with me and are trying to connect to their own MySQL servers elsewhere. Both said that they are able to connect to the MySQL server with other hosting accounts but not the ones hosted with me. I asked if they had setup permissions to allow remote connections from my server and they confirmed that they did. What am I missing? Do I need to configure my firewall somehow? I figured the connection is just using port 80 since it's from an PHP script right?

Can't Connect To MySQL Server On 'localhost' (10055)
Do you guys know anything about this? My server works perfectly with INSERT, UPDATE, DELETE for mysql. but after like 12 hours later, my application crashes and I get this "Can't connect to MySQL server on 'localhost' (10055)" and I would have to restart my applications and everything will be working perfectly. Do you guys have any idea why this happen? I do have a lot of connections coming in and out of my server. Would that mean anything?

Mail Server Taking Too Much Time To Connect
For some reason, one of the servers can't connect to my mail server. Whenever a user tries to send email from that server to my server, the message won't go through and I see the following in the logs (var/log/exim/mainlog): 2007-02-13 23:56:06 SMTP connection from (***.ca) [***.***.***.***] lost while reading message data (header) this problem occurs only with this ***.ca mail server (as far as I know). In fact, trying dnsreport.com tool on any of my server domains, I am getting the error message "ERROR: I could not complete a connection to any of your mailservers! ******.com: Timed out [Last data sent: RCPT TO: ] If this is a timeout problem, note that the DNS report only waits about 40 seconds for responses, so your mail *may* work fine in this case but you will need to use testing tools specifically designed for such situations to be certain.

When i go to my website or any page under the domain it's just white. Blank nothing, nada. "Failed to receive status information from Apache. Unable to connect to local httpd server." Fresh Centos Server Install But Cannot Connect To The Internet
The setup: 2wire BT router (Firmware 6.1.1) 1 Server (Dell) Hardware with NICs (Server is connected to router via Ethernet Cable) 5 Static Ip addresses purchased from BT Server OS is Centos 5.2 All laptops (5) are able to connect to the net wirelessly. I just did a standard installation of the Centos following [url] I then tried Code: yum update but it times out. I have no remote access to the server. I can only connect when i am on the router. I have seached, read and tried so many sites and commands but it just is not working. I have had this problem for about a 6 days. Its a long story but basically this server setup has become a nemesis. I don't mind providing remote access to the server and router admin page if needed. I am in London btw.

Spammers Trying To Connect To Mail Server & Filling Logs
I use cpanel. Is there any way to disallow connections to SEND mail FROM my server to specific IPs? (Similarly to how you can limit connections to sshd from certain IPs) I realize I cannot disable everything completely, as yahoo and the likes will have to connect to deliver mail. But no one of any use is going to try and connect to send mail, but a spammer. No one has gotten in and abused it as of yet (knock on wood), but SMTP is being restarted at random and I can only imagine that this is being caused by one of these scumbags probably ddos'ing me. It takes eons to browse these logs, even if they restart via logrotate periodically!

My webhost's autoresponder does not keep track of who it has auto-responded to. Hence it will auto-respond back to the same person twice. Some emailer might send me an email (most likely spam) and I would auto-respond. But that emailer also has a dumb auto-responder and response back to me. I would auto-respond back; it would auto-respsond back forever. I'm afraid to turn on an "Out-of Office" auto-responder because if that happens, I would have a billizion emails in my inbox upon my return. Turn Off Session Expiration On IIS 6.0
I have a website where people perform a number of tasks, saving some data to temporary session files. If the user is idle for a certain amount of time, then performs an action, his/her work will be gone. I'd like to set the sessions to never expire, so that only a browser close would delete the temporary files. I've tried looking around in the IIS manager, but I cannot find a way to do this.

Intermittent "Can't Connect To MySQL Server"
I started getting small periods of intermittent connection errors about once every hour, lasting for about 1 to 5 minutes each time: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' I enabled the error log and did some other monitoring and established 2 things: - the server doesn't crash/restart, it keeps running throughout the errors - the errors do not match the load on the website, as sometimes when 500 users are online there are no errors, but when 300 are online they may by prolific I checked many forums and then made 5 changes: - changed the directory containing the mysql.sock file so only file owners or superusers can delete files from it - I changed the default socket file setting in both my.cnf and php.ini - I read about SELinux causing such a problem, so I disabled SELinux completely, rebooted the server and double-checked that it is indeed disabled. - I changed the maximum amount of open files allowed by the operating system from 1024 to 30000. Despite all these changes, I still get the errors. I then read that there is a workaround by using TCP/IP instead of the sock file. I tried that, but I still get the error intermittently in the form of: Can't connect to MySQL server on 127.0.0.1 MySQL server 4.1.20, PHP 4.3.9, client API 4.1.20, CentOS 4.3, Intel P4 2.8GHz 1GB RAM

I've got a VPS which is serving as the main server for a number of sites. Web Server, SSH Server, and Mail Server. What I've got running: Apache2, PHP5, MySQL5, Dovecot, Postfix One of the sites is a growing forum with a MASSIVE photo album. This is the site where I notice the most slowness. "Can't Connect To Local MySQL Server" + "IPS Driver Error"
During peak times (especially weekends) many of my site's users have been reporting intermittent 'IPS Driver Errors' in the forums and the following error in the coppermine gallery: Quote: Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (11) (The forums and the gallery are the main parts of the site). I'm assuming that the site is having problems handling the number of users trying to connect to SQL. I tried increasing the max_connections and max_user_connections settings in my.cnf but it doesn't seem to have made a significant difference. What do I need to do to fix this? Would I need to upgrade my server specs or is it something to do with the server settings? my server specs: AMD Dual/Dual Opteron 270 with 4GB RAM.
