View 2 RepliesA week ago i came across a installation of a fake paypal site on a account i am using on cpanel. The site had the latest wordpress installed on it with nothing else.
I would like to know;
How is it possible to access the account to install the paypal site and how can a person prevents this in the future. i came acros the site by accident and cant check on all my clients sites all the time.
Any advice appreciated
I am on a very fixed budget, and I'm looking for a reliable host I can host my domain on.
I am familar with cpanel already, I was once a VPS owner, until I could no longer afford a VPS
after I lost my job
so I'm on the hunt for $1 hosting that I can pay for once a year using paypal
so I don't have to risk loosing my site again.
I had a $25/mo VPS with a very nice hosting provider, but could not afford to keep the host,
so 2 days late on my bill, and they deleted my VPS just like that! I lost everything!
15 years of work down the drain in 2 seconds! oh I was so pissed!!
I mean, yeah I should have had a local backup, but the problem was, my Computer was in the shop,
and the guy who repaired my computer formatted my backup drive, which I was pissed about that too.
Can you believe it? lost a job, and 15 years of programming and design work down the drain in 2 seconds. Even if that host offered me a FREE VPS for life, I still wouldn't accept it. I mean that was rediculus that they couldn't restore even an old backup for me. better then no site at all, ya know?
For awhile after that, I thought about giving up on having my own website, but then I thought, well I need a presence, a wordpress blog or something, so I started looking around.
I found a few places that offered $1 hosting, which didn't seem like too bad of an idea, I could probably swing $10 once a year. There was one host that even had a $5/yr promo running,
which sounded really cool, because it had Fantasico and RVSkin too, which was a really good deal for all that, but I diddn't know anything about the host, not much information on the site, so decided to not to sign up and ask you guys first.
the host was manadospace.com
Does anyone know if their reliable or not? otherwise can you guys recommend a host? I have no idea. Knownhost used to have $1 hosting, but not anymoore it looks like. my X has always had good luck with them over the years. any ideas for a reliable host?
I mean, even when I had a VPS, I was lucky to use 1GB/month bandwidth, most of the time I was lucky to use 450mb/mo bandwidth. I did use a gig of disk space though over several sites, but I've lost a couple of domains already, and I only have 2 left that didn't get taken over, so all I'm looking for now is a site to host a couple pages, and a wordpress blog, so I don't really need that much.
I live in Indiana
Recently I stumbled along a host on here with a good rep and that uses direct admin.
Because they were very nice on the live support I signed up to see what direct admin was like.
Its very diferent from cpanel. Some parts seem to be harder to use like the phpmyadmin requires the username and password to the database you created not the control panel username and password like cpanel. Although I guess that could be a good security feature just in case some one gets into the control panel they can not get into the phpmyadmin, then again if they are smart and were able to get into the control panel they could get into ftp and look what the username and password is on the config file for the script you are using.
The bandwidth meter seems to be better in direct admin although I think its acting up for me as its putting yesterdays bandwidth on todays. I was told by the host that it updates every 2 hours and at first it did but now its gone to every day. Oh and unlike cpanel this bandwidth meter includes bandwith used by the control panel.
Niether one from what I can tell counts sftp though at least for the hosts I have right now.
First of all, is there any best way to set DNS on our VPS? How to do that? I tried to follow the tutorial and even asked the VPS company to do it for me (two different company) but when they do that, I checked with DNSStuff.com, this is the result I get.

But my reseller account with another company show no such problem. At first I thought my first VPS company didn't know what they do, but it could not be that both company didn't know what they are doing when setting up the DNS of my VPS right?
So, there must be something that I need to say to them, so the lame nameserver error will disappear.
The messages in my logs indicate that my DNS server is configured incorrectly.

glaring issue that is keeping my DNS from working.
I have two servers in one of my datacenters that are giving off lame name servers. I have tried everything I could think of, as well as everything I could find online to fix these issues. Can anyone point me in a direction?

so i turned of the logging and start search the web on possible reasons. However the only once i found where mostly "in case of the domain is not hosted on the server". But in my case the domains in questions are on my server and show in the log as lame server resolv.
They say it has to do with server is not authoritive for that domain.
So how i am gonna fix this?
With digs, and nslookups, i got not errors at all.
But if i try to change a DNS i got a message back from a provider saying that the domains is broken.
I just changed the server, and I can't make the new to work.
The server is CentOS 5 with WHM/cPanel.
The problem seems to be something with DNS / Nameservers - because the server doesn't resolve the domains.

I was in the market for a new dedicated server after a couple of years with my previous provider. The previous provider did nothing wrong but they were no longer competitive when it came to CPU and memory.
I moved first to geekrack. And I left them after a week and a half as they never were able to get my rDNS records setup.
I found Universal Hosts on this forum and gave them a shot. I had asked for an operating system that they didn't offer normally (Debian 64 bit) and they said that they could do it. However, when my server was setup it was 32 bit Debian instead. They apologized and had Debian 64 bit setup less than 24 hours later.
When I asked them to get rDNS records setup it took a few hours but they were setup correctly and they worked.
Universal Hosts is also a BurstNet reseller but compared to my other attempt at using a BurstNet reseller they are fantastic. While the initial config was incorrect they worked quickly to fix it and were very professional about it.
So after two weeks - so far so good. Keep up the good work UniHosts!
I am running Apache2.2, PHP5.I have been running with virtual hosts on a Windows 7 environment fine for a couple of years successfully, but have just had to move to a Windows 8 environment. It looks like Apache and PHP have installed and are working fine, but my Virtual hosts are now not being recognised. From what I can tell, it is the Windows 8 hosts file that is having a problem, as it looks as though it is now just setup to Block websites.
If I make the host file just have the one line127.0.0.1 localhost entry, then the very first Virtual Host from my apache config file will come up, but the rest are not found. If I put the usual 127.0.0.1 mywebsite.name aliasname is appears as though my website works momentarily and then is blocked..
I see some errors about lame servers in messages log,and i noticed that look like adress of isp surfer domain beacuse i noticed domain of my isp listed also as lame name server. Here is example:

Can anyone help me explaining how I could access my sister's paypal account through LINUX VPS (is it possible) from BANGLADESH?
I wanted to buy a VPN but it is more or less the same price for a VPS. So I want to buy a VPS, as some say VPN and VPS works same when you browse internet with specific country IP.
As I'm going to use my sister's paypal account(she lives in UK)I need a IP address from UK, so that paypal doesn't assumes that I'm using it from BANGLADESGH. Can anybody help me with this issue?Please...
Is there is any "web browser" included in LINUX VPS? I mean when I log into my VPS account, can I browse internet just like I do with my local ISP. This all about using the paypal account from Bangladesh and added benefit would be that, I can use this VPS space to host some of my site.
Can anyone suggest what to look for in VPS (LINUX one, as it is cheaper than windows VPS) considering the above issue.
I have some experience with WHM and cPanel. Shall I look for WHM enabled VPS ? Or something else you suggest. What else to look for in VPS hosting or do you suggest any VPS provider from UK?
I need 10 to 15 GB of web space at this moment. If needed I will upgrade it later on to more "disk space" and "RAM".

Day 9 (today) - No reply whatsoever and server still offline I raise a paypal dispute and within 1 hour I get a email telling me they agree to my 2nd proposal (only 300 euro refund) however they want me to cancel paypal dispute first.
I have read the paypal dispute policy and I see if I were to cancel the dispute and they then not refund me I have nothing since I cannot reopen the dispute, whilst if he were to refund me and I was to try and scam him he would have a strong case as paypal have the refund logged so he has far less to worry about. So I am not cancelling the dispute and even offered to set it to 300 euros but he says if I dont cancel the dispute I get no refund.
Just want to know peoples thoughts on this, consider I never have had the server I ordered working, its currently completely down and he was ignoring me until I raised the dispute which doesnt put his trustworthyness very high.

If some body pays by paypal for some services we need to verify that it is not a fraud so he has to fill up a form and send a government issued ID. but please see this chat conversation. the customer is reluctant to do so see the chat
