Using (NFS) Network File Systems
I sharing File system using NFS between 2 mailservers running postfix on CentOS 5.2.The mail servers shares the base mail directory of virtual users e.g. /home/vmail.
It appears to run fine since last couple of months,just requires feedback if anybody already tried sharing mail directories between 2 or more mail servers.
Or is there any alternate solution for sharing data between servers?

Best Way Of Mouting File System Remotely? NFS/SSHFS
I've been debating this in my head in that we have a number of servers that need to mount a remote server (for backups actually) and debating about the best way of doing it. Traditionally I would use NFS but this is going to have to run over the public internet and NFS is insecure at the best of times. Now I've got root on all the servers and I was thinking of using sshfs via fuse but just wondered if anyone had any input of the stability of it or any other way. R1Soft wouldn't work in this method as the backups are created by the user

We have an older CardKey system in place here and are looking to do some updates. Anyone know of distributors of Pegasus software to manage the systems? Backorder Systems
i know maybe it is wrong for this topic to be here, but i am going to focus on my question in technically . my question is " how backorder systems work? " . i dont want description of them, i know they check the domain over and over and register it as soon as be available. what i mean is what system they do to check the availability of domain better ? public whois database's are caching and not return the realtime result. so what they do ? do they contact directly to internic whois servers ? or they use "whois" linux command? anybody know what they do to get realtime domain check?

NFS Mount
I have 2 servers connected through a private network.. I wanted to remotely mount a folder on one of the servers. However when i do it gives me permission error.. On the server 1. Iptables are stopped 2. Exportfs shows the result fine 3. entry in hosts.allow and /etc/hosts is made 4. NFS is running fine On the client: 1. Small UPS Systems

Want To Change Email Systems
I have had enough of email problems that constantly happen on a server. For about three weeks now I have been dealing with email issues that I am going out of my mind. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a email scheme that will work. Here is what I would like to do. Disable Exim COMPLETELY. Either setup a server for email only or find a email solution. Email will be pointed ONLY by way of DNS.Once I get email fixed on this box it works for a day and next thing you know it's all messed up again. Somehow etc/localdomains and etc/remotedomains either vanish or get over written plus a bunch of other things including permissions.All I know is this is getting ridiculous.I don't want any sort of email system on this box. I want all my email to go though DNS only to another server. We already have on service that we use for Exchange, so all the MX Records point to that server, but email still has to interact with this server first, which I don't want it to.

ISCSI Or NFS For Project
we are setting up a couple of servers for a clients application which will have 2 x 1U application servers running XenServer 5.5 and one NFS or iSCSI server (Dell 2950, Raid 10) running ether just Linux with NFS or Openfiler with iSCSI. Would there be any benefit in running iSCSI vs. NFS considering their is no iSCSI accelerator and this is just a regular Server ? NFS is simple but is it's performance really that much different than iSCSI in this scenario? The network will be used by up to 12 user.

NFS With MySQL / Apache
i am setting up a new load balanced cluster for the first time. It is turning out pretty well so far, I was wondering if you guys see any future problems with this setup. So far it is working well. I have one server that is the dedicated network file server. Then two others that mount the file system from the NFS. I have mysql and apache installed on both servers. They both share the NFS mount using read and write privs. I haven't put a load on the setup yet, but I was under the assumption that this couldn't be done with MySQL, but it seems to be working great. If this does work out, it seems MySQL would be scaled just as easy as apache. Everysite in the system could be setup to use localhost which would be the same server it is served up with apache.

NFS- With PHP Writes
I tried setting up my web server with the user's home directories as a NFS and everything seemed to be working except for one thing I found. When I used php write which I have a couple scripts that do, it can't use fopen with the option "w" which means to trunicate the length to 0 and point at the beginning of the file. It allows me to use "a" which just writes at the bottom of the file. This is weird because when I login to shell I can delete the files, edit the files, and make files. It gives me this error....[function.fopen]: failed to open stream: Operation not permitted httpd 2.0.59, php 4.4.6, userspace nfs, using no_root_squash,sync,no_all_squash,rw in the exports.

I tried installing CentOS 64bit using windows image and vnc that comes with HyperVM and it says (your cpu does not support long mode. use a 32 bit distribution), and if I try to install Windows Server 2008 I get blue screen with a stop and error.

Cache Systems For Apache In Windows
I have a fair ammount of load on the server, and I want to cache as much as possible to reduce disk IO. The harddrive is a major bottleneck for performance. The server serve a lot of files larger than 10MB, so I want to cache as much of the files below 10mb as possible. First off I want to cache around 200k thumbnail files, where around 1000 new gets added every day. Secondly it would be preferred to cache dynamic files in a way that the file timestamp is checked at a regular interval, and then read again if timestamp has changed. Is there any free solutions on windows with apache for this?

They have live chat support so i talked with someone and what he did say me is: servers come with Fedora and whole LAMP environment installed, you can SSH to the server, and install VNC, you have full ADMIN rights to install anything you wish, servers are not managed (he said that they are Managed in the sense that they are monitoring PING POWER and PIPE), they can Re-image to default for free, no setup fee, month to month payment. I didn't use any dedicated server, I only used shared hosting. What I planed is to move my OpenX (former names OpenAds and phpAdsNew) installation to this server for now to see who is that working. I think that server is capable to run it, since it is currently run on shared hosting.

Three VPS's Mount Sharable Directory, NFS
Not sure where to start with this one... My Setup 1 x [VPS1] OpenVZ Based VPS, with cPanel/WHM installed and Webmin. CentOS 4.4 1 x [VPS2] OpenVZ Based VPS, with OpenVPN installed, with Webmin. CentOS 4.4 1 x [VPS3] Xen Based VPS, with Webmin. FC4 All servers are in different remote locations. What I would like In each of the VPS's to have a directory called "shared" in the / directory. It would be great if I could mount "shared" in the other two VPS's and share files securely. How would I go about setting this up, I would prefer not to use OpenVPN as one of the VPS's has a custom setup of it.

NFS Slow Speed When Moving Many Small Files
I have mounted NFS part. but when copying a big file the speed is OK like 5-6MB/s but when starting to copying all other (small files) speed is like 20-200KB.s What is the reason and is it way to improve the speed or use other way to mount drive remotely and preserve the same permissions after backup?

PHP Sessions In Load Balanced Enviroment, Database Or NFS
We have setup and are currently testing a load balanced cluster using heartbeat and ldirectord. One of the problems we have come across is that we are unable to reliably use the same web server for connections from the same user. As a result the php sessions are getting in a bit of a muddle. Obviously its not something that we can easily sync between servers like the customers other web content. We are looking at either storing the sessions in a database or NFS. The site is pretty busy and we are a bit worried that when the site goes live both these options will slow everything down. Apart from using different load balancing software is there any other solutions we could use for this? Has anyone stored php sessions in a database on a busy site or on a NFS?

Links Files In Linux (file.txt For File.php)
Today I found some cstomer on the servers make a link for named it file.txt and link it to other customer php file. so that customer have the ability to show the other custoer file content when visiting the url because it is a text wile originally it is a php file. the php file was a config file, so now he know the database password , and because he is in the same server he can use that databse. the question , how to avoide this prolem in the future? notes , the SuExec is rnning and the open_basedir protection is enabled, but the problem still exists.

I bought another dedicated server yesterday and it was bought online same day. It was working fine yesterday during a few site transfers but now it would appear that I am losing network packets. I have done a traceroute and ping tests and attached are the results. Please can anyone help. I think the problem is to do with NTT's network rather than server problems but please could someone else ping from their location to confirm this.

I have some VPS with Knownhost and i use it for hosting purposes. First, I'm not from USA. Here in my country we have several ISP but one of them ( i guess the biggest one ) is having problems with their link that connects to another countries ( including USA ). Many of my customers that uses this ISP complains about their site being down and also slow download speeds ( 10kb/s when they usually download at 200kb/s ). When they run a traceroute i see that the problem is related to the ISP. I have already contacted the ISP but they doesn't seen to "care" about their clients and i guess they won't solve this in a near future. My question is if there is a way to solve this problem on my own? I was thinking about getting a link with another ISP ( the one that really works ) with static IP and route this to Knownhost VPS. I know that this isn't a cheap solution but is it possible?

To make it simple, I am having some bays with dedicated servers. We offer 2 possibilities for bandwidth traffic: per Giga, or per MBit/s but I am having some problems. We currently use the router of our ISP better than buying a cheap low quality router. - How can I know how much bandwidth does use on customer and how to limit if I have no access to the router ? - How can I limit my customer from using free IP on the same block than he is ? We do configure server with IP and the same subnet, gateway and broadcast, so one customer could use free IP just so, and I would not even be able to know who is doing. How do you limit and count this for your servers?

Okay, I have been trying to get a VPN network setup here between our DC and our office for weeks now and have not been sucessful. Here is our goals: -use 10.x.x.x/255.0.0.0 as a local backend network at our DC -be able to assign a 10.x.x.x address at the office to all workstations and be able to access any of the local machines at the DC -we have a asterisk server that we use and want to run that on the same network, asterisk box at the DC, phones at the office We are wanting to impliment this for allot of security procedures and for ease. But I also want to be able to have this like at my house so I can still be on the VPN. I want to have my house, office and DC always connected and then setup remote ability too to dial in via VPN. What would be the best way to accomplish. I have already tried having a few Linksys RV082 and WRV54G but the remote and local networks must be different networks, so this will not work here.

This is 4th day i am having network issue on HiVeloCity. Does anyone else here experiencing the same problem, or its only rack where my server is located? I am unable to use my server for almost 4 days as i already said, and they still have no solution for me. Every time i open up a live chat with support, they tell me that they are checking, working on it, having someone see it, etc. but problem is still there. What should i do? I am going to post pings from SoftLayer and my home to their main ip (their websites' IP where i see pocket loss as well) ... because of this my websites are opening so slow, and many ppl are complaining about this. Since there is many experts on this forum i would like advise from you guys. I would like to stay with HVC if they can fix this, if not looks like i will have to look for another provider. Let say I have a computer network and the router is 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1.2 to 192.168.1.10 is using workgroup called HOME and 192.168.1.11 to 192.168.1.50 is using workgroup called OFFICE. All comp is WIN XP based client. Now the qustion is, I'm sure that noone from home workgroup can access the office workgroup. But how about virus? In case a computer which is reside into home workgroup is infected with network type virus, can that virus reach the comp which is reside into office workgroup?
