CardKey Systems
We have an older CardKey system in place here and are looking to do some updates. Anyone know of distributors of Pegasus software to manage the systems? Dealing with Johnson directly has been a huge pain and they are never around when you need them. I am in the Dallas area just looking for contacts on managing the systems.

Backorder Systems
i know maybe it is wrong for this topic to be here, but i am going to focus on my question in technically . my question is " how backorder systems work? " . i dont want description of them, i know they check the domain over and over and register it as soon as be available. what i mean is what system they do to check the availability of domain better ? public whois database's are caching and not return the realtime result. so what they do ? do they contact directly to internic whois servers ? or they use "whois" linux command? anybody know what they do to get realtime domain check?

Small UPS Systems

Want To Change Email Systems
I have had enough of email problems that constantly happen on a server. For about three weeks now I have been dealing with email issues that I am going out of my mind. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a email scheme that will work. Here is what I would like to do. Disable Exim COMPLETELY. Either setup a server for email only or find a email solution. Email will be pointed ONLY by way of DNS.Once I get email fixed on this box it works for a day and next thing you know it's all messed up again. Somehow etc/localdomains and etc/remotedomains either vanish or get over written plus a bunch of other things including permissions. All I know is this is getting ridiculous.I don't want any sort of email system on this box. I want all my email to go though DNS only to another server. We already have on service that we use for Exchange, so all the MX Records point to that server, but email still has to interact with this server first, which I don't want it to.

Cache Systems For Apache In Windows
I have a fair ammount of load on the server, and I want to cache as much as possible to reduce disk IO. The harddrive is a major bottleneck for performance. The server serve a lot of files larger than 10MB, so I want to cache as much of the files below 10mb as possible. First off I want to cache around 200k thumbnail files, where around 1000 new gets added every day. Secondly it would be preferred to cache dynamic files in a way that the file timestamp is checked at a regular interval, and then read again if timestamp has changed. Is there any free solutions on windows with apache for this?

Millennium Data Systems' Dedicated Servers
to ask about this offer (millenniumdata dot com/BUSINESS/Business-Default.asp?include=Business-Dedicated-Servers.asp) I found. They have live chat support so i talked with someone and what he did say me is: servers come with Fedora and whole LAMP environment installed, you can SSH to the server, and install VNC, you have full ADMIN rights to install anything you wish, servers are not managed (he said that they are Managed in the sense that they are monitoring PING POWER and PIPE), they can Re-image to default for free, no setup fee, month to month payment. I didn't use any dedicated server, I only used shared hosting. What I planed is to move my OpenX (former names OpenAds and phpAdsNew) installation to this server for now to see who is that working. I think that server is capable to run it, since it is currently run on shared hosting.

For An Online Store?
I am currently shopping for web hosting for an online store (that would provide software - mostly automatically downloadable upon payment). My estimates for initial operation of my web/online store are: Storage: (10MB/app x 50 apps) + 50MB overhead = 550 MB Monthly transfer: 5000 purchases/month x 10MB/app = 10 GB Number of email accounts: up to 10 By "initial" I mean first year, not first month. My intent is to develop my own osCommerce based web store for downloadable software that I develop. PHP and MySQL support are must. My estimates are not carved in stone. In the beginning I will certainly use much less "monthly transfer" than I specified and in the long term I hope to be using much more "monthly transfer" (as marketing evolves and the business becomes more established)... The most important factors to me are (in the following order): 1) Reliability (up-time, security) 2) Tech support 3) Expandability (room to grow) The company that registered my domain name provides web hosting with much more than I initially need (5GB space, 250GB transfer, 50 email accounts) for under $3 a month. This is a price that I can afford. However, I am not sure whether it is a good idea to have both the web hosting and domain registration provided by the same company? Any opinions/comments you have about this? Is my doubt in this regard unfounded? Secondly, is there some independent source (user/customer reviews OK) that compares the reliability of web hosting providers? (I would have given the name of my registrar here but I am unsure whether this would constitute advertising. If mentioning names or asking for references is allowed please let me know and I will post it here so that I can get your opinions about it). Thirdly, is there any significance for where, geographically, the actual servers are located? Main consideration is access speed for customers...

Furthermore I tried dropping their sales an email but have not got any sort of response yet (albeit its only been over a day but not even a confirmation or anything). I will probably try to drop them an email again but was just wondering if anyone has ever had a live chat w/ BurstNET reps before?

How Get Godaddy Online Support
I have a problem with my godaddy account, At this time my credit card is expiring within a month. when i try to log my hosting accounts and domain manager. It says to give a call for Godaddy billing support number. I tried it, but very busy. I sent few emails and no replies yet. So i couldn't access my account. I paid all bills. Luckily i don't have any expiring domains within few months. Is this safe? because i need at least 2 weeks to get new credit card? When i check my domain by a whois tool it says like "Prohibited", something. "Registrar Status: clientDeleteProhibited Registrar Status: clientRenewProhibited Registrar Status: clientTransferProhibited Registrar Status: clientUpdateProhibited" why godaddy is not user friendly like Hostgator. When i have problems in Hostgator, their online support is helpful.

HDD Prices Online
Today I wanted to configure server for colocation and I went to both HP and DELL, and everything was ok until I started to configure HDDs. Price of regular 1Tb HDD is about $500 on both DELL and HP, while same drive costs $84 on newegg. Whats the catch? I mean processor, RAM, and everything else has normal prices, but HDDs are 6X more expensive than normal price. Do you know any good site where I can configure server and order it to colocation address. Also it must be very cheap ? Best would be if I could order components from new egg, send them to company which assembles everything and then send it to DC.

I Want To Stream A Wedding Online..

Don't want to stream directly since there might be up to 10 people watching, and don't want to have any lag. Any suggestions on the best route to go? Maybe there is a service and I'm just not looking in the right spot. I think I want a quality server to host a cam stream for a few hours in early June. Or should I be looking for something else?

I tried about four different ones. No matter what I did, following their instructions, looking in different browsers, checking file names etc, I always had trouble finding my pictures. Not just trouble--my images just never show up when I put them in these free online file places. Usually I am pretty sharp about stuff like this but now I have to wonder: What is going on with that?

Ultima Online Shards
Just curious if anyone here happens to run an Ultima Online shard in a Linux environment. If yes, how kind of setup do you have? My current setup on my home server is vmware and from a server stand point performance is great, but the network is the bottleneck - my isp sucks for that stuff. I moved it to deciated but it's actually bloody laggy and I got a few people to test it and they said it's worse. Somewhat playable, but not to my taste. So while this is quite a specific situation, figured I'd ask in case anyone does happen to have a solution. The only issue I can see is that I used win2k instead of win2k3 as the VM but win2k is lighter weight so doubt that is the issue.

Online Processing/load Balancing Services
I work for an academic department which utilizes one web server, and has few issues with processing time and/or speed during the year. However, there is one point during the year when there is a need for a significant number of processing transactions, which opens all at once at a certain time on a certain day for everyone, that the web server cannot handle and is currently not occurring. I need to find a service that can handle this. Basically, we would just need to insert info into a database (or whatever input form works) and then later export that data into a text file to be inserted by us at a later time. This is not credit card processing, which is why I'm posting. However, this would need to be secure. We only need the use of the servers and a database.

Tuangou / Group Buying With Regards To Online Services
I recently discovered the magic of Tuangou / group buying after a short stay in China. It made me wonder why this efficient method of purchasing things has yet to be popularised in the Western world. (See en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tuangou for more information.) I think that this is quite interesting when you look at the economics of server resources, in particular online data storage. I have been looking for around 100GB of cheap, reliable FTP space for a while now, but it seems that truly cheap storage is only available if you have terabytes of data to store. This has always prevented me from storing my data in 'the cloud'. However, if the Tuangou principles are applied to this situation a lot of cheap storage could be realised so long as there were enough people to cover the yearly cost. Which moves me on to the crux of my post... As a home user or small business owner, would you be willing to wait longer for an online storage service to be provisioned and pay in advance if there were significant cost savings to be had? (By significant cost savings I mean cheaper than Amazon's S3.) I'm currently looking to set up a company offering just this, but do not wish to enter the market until I can substantiate my own views and until I can be sure that my target market does not solely consist of me.

Windows Server Online Backup Provider
Due to some recent negative experiences, one of my customers had to cancel their account with IBackup.com's Pro services. It had provided exceptional reliability and did Windows backup of the System State, Exchange Server, SQL, and provided file versions going 30 back. But I couldn't get anywhere with technical support for 2 weeks on why it would freeze during the backups. The final straw came when I installed it to a brand new server and had the same issues. I'm looking for a suggestion on a provider that does at least file-level backups and Exchange backups. I've looked around online, read reviews, but it doesn't look like the providers do Exchange backup. I don't need mailbox-level backup, just brick-level for disaster recovery. File versions going back (in case a user makes a mistake and wants to restore an old copy) would be nice, but not required.

What Type Of Hosting For Online Clothing Website?
I'm starting a streetwear clothing company and am about to get a website done to display my catalogue - it will have medium amounts of flash and will be like most other e-commerce clothing stores However, I won't be needing a full e-commerce site as I do not intend to sell through my website - if needed, all I hope to have on it is a link for payments to be made via paypal What I will need is a host that is reliable and doesn't bug out as soon as traffic to my site increases - I have no idea as to the amount of traffic i will be receiving when things are just starting out but I'd like to at least be prepared for high traffic - I was stupid enough to believe in all the overselling from big hosting companies until I did more reading - now I know their limits are just for show and I want to avoid getting shut down or whatever for putting a load on their resources My hope is that some of you learned ones can advise me on the direction i should be heading Though I have no idea exactly what VPS and dedicated servers are, I assume these are more suitable for my needs? Are big hosting companies more reliable when it comes to their package plans for VPS or dedicated servers?
