Today I found some cstomer on the servers make a link for named it file.txt and link it to other customer php file. so that customer have the ability to show the other custoer file content when visiting the url because it is a text wile originally it is a php file. the php file was a config file, so now he know the database password , and because he is in the same server he can use that databse. the question , how to avoide this prolem in the future? notes , the SuExec is rnning and the open_basedir protection is enabled, but the problem still exists.

I want to redirect all requests for .pdf files from one dir to another. OLD DIR: www.domain.com/en/product/pdf/ NEW DIR: www.domain.com/global_pdf/ ...so when someone requests: www.domain.com/en/product/pdf/john.pdf it loads: www.domain.com/global_pdf/john.pdf I think I need to use RedirectMatch or RedirectRule to check for *.pdf but I have no idea how to write the expression matching thing.

Viewing Notepad / Html Doc On The Internet
I have built a website using Notepad and have saved all the files as .html documents. Up until yesterday my internet provider was AOL and whenever I double clicked the documents they would open as a web page on AOL. All the files even had little AOL icons. Yesterday I changed my IP to O2. Since then I have not been able to view my .html files on the internet. Whenever I double click them they just open as the Notepad documents.

File Sharing
I tried searching for this, but haven't found the solution. I currently have a VPS I'm not using for anything else, so I thought it would make a good file server for sharing files between my home and office computers. Ideally, I'd like to do this via SMB/Samba so I could map a windows network drive to a directory on the VPS from both locations. I've set up SAMBA and it works great via the VPS (ie. smbclient returns that it is sharing the directory, etc...). The problem is I can't get either of the remote machines to connect. I read about a way to do tunneling in PuTTY, which worked. In essence I created a Microsoft Loopback device on the remote machine and ran putty forwarding the samba share port. This worked perfectly, in that I could type "10.0.0.1" (the MS loopback interface) and access my VPS shares on my home machine. However, this isn't ideal, as you have to keep PuTTY running to be able to access the shared drive and you have to keep a live SSH session going. Does anyone have any ideas as to how to cut out PuTTY from the mix and just be able to do "vps.hostname.comsharename" directly from both the home and office machine. I gather this would be trivial if my home machine and the VPS were on the same network. Would a VPN solution make sense here? Any good recommendations? I think a VPN connection would be much easier to setup and deal with than the SSH tunneling solution. Searching on here revealed adding a line "hosts allow" with the remote IP into smb.conf; however, that did not work for me. It's still as if the remote machines cannot see the VPS through SMB.

Cant Download File
I have just performed a ftp backup of my entire server. I then zipped it up in Cpanel. The file size its self it 3322megs big (about 3.3gb). If i press it to download it says: Forbidden You don't have permission to access /backup/sepmid07/sepmid07.zip on this server. Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I manage a high traffic website on one of my dedicated servers. It currently serves around 2 million uniques/mo. In time, due to page changes, around 200 important URIs got a redirect [L,R=301] in the main .htaccess file that's sitting on the root directory. Redirects are in the form of : person/J/James_Blake_2000/ --> /user/James_Blake/ Thus, the .htaccess file has reached well above 200 lines. Webhost That Allows File Hosting
I plan to host a small multimedia site. I am looking for a new webhost. I want a webhost that: 1. Costs less than $10 a month 2. Allows file hosting. (Video streaming/downloading) 3. Ideally allows for storage of files that are not related to the website. 4. Ideally allows for anonymous FTP access. Only 1 and 2 are critical. The site will have many MP3s, Videos, PDF and text documents available for streaming or downloading. All the material will either be my own or the copywrited material of my organization. I have their express written permission to host and distribute these media files under a creative commons license. It will be 5GB or less of files, and they will be downloaded rarely and not very many people simultaneously downloading at once. Most webhosts I have looked at (Monsterhost, 1and1, Bluehost, mmhosting.com, etc) All offer unlimited/tons of space and have some provision in their terms of service agreement like this: "Webhost company does not allow file sharing / unlimited media sharing." or "HostMonster.Com offers its Services to host web sites, not to store data. Using an account as an online storage space for archiving electronic files is prohibited and will result in termination of hosting services without prior notice." So where can I find a host that allows file hosting, video hosting, etc? I don't need a lot of bandwidth/storage space, but I do want to host my media.

Ip Is Trying To Download The Same File Many Times
We have a video streaming server, sometimes the server gets really slow and when we digg into it, we see that the same ip is trying to download the same file many many times. for example i either run this command netstat -n | grep :80 | awk '{ print $5 }' | awk -F: '{ print $1 }' | sort | uniq -c | sort -n | tail or go to WHM and see the 'apache stats' and i see 100 http connections from the same ip, trying to download the same video 100 times,,, what is this? is this some sort of attack? could that be 100 different people that use a proxy? or what is going on?

Changing File Permission
i've set all folders,sub folder and files under this folder to be 777 since it is a folder for my users to upload attachments~ however this is the problem. users all failed to upload because the permission of the new folder created by apache for the users to store their attachment are set to 755, which i wanted them to be 777. (those 777 folders were from old server.) if u take a look at the pic attached , you know what i meant. does anyone have any idea of how i can change the permission for this whole foder to be 777 even with folder created by apache? i tried chmod -r 777 attachment, but it says operation not permitted @@

Un-tar Big File
un-tar big file - big head ache - any way to overcome? I was un-tarring a file of 6.622gb, the un-tar size should be around 14.4gb I think, most of them are image files .jpg's and its taking hell a lot of time and not to mention the breaks for un-specified time to process once again, started decompress around 40-50mins earlier and still the process is on,,..... using centos5 , ssh - root access is any there any way I can overcome this problem in future, I can't afford to spend so much time on friends vps just to decompress files?

Sftp File Ownership
I have it setup and have a user created that can upload files to my website. The problem that I am running in to is that the files that this user uploads are owned by him not the cpanel website user. Thus when I try to view the page in my browser I get a server 500 error since the site is set to only serve up pages that are owned by the cpanel website user. When using FTP in the same way we did not have this problem as the file that was uploaded would automatically be owned by the cpanel website user.

Only Need File Storage And Bandwidth
I run several sites and all of them are hosted at invision. The main reason for having my sites hosted there is that my sites are "forum centered" and I'm very happy with the service that I have got over the last few years from them, so I don't want to change that. However, I now wish to expand and provide my users with a file repository. The problem is, whilst hosting my sites at invision is fine, hosting my files there would be quite expensive... Thus, I'm now looking for a host to host my files and nothing else. (I run chess sites, so I'll be providing my users with files and possibly a gallery. All legal material, of course). I don't need any download manager or anything of the kind. Invision forums actually has its own download manager, and I can have my files hosted externally (i.e. other than on my site). Thus, I'm looking for a host that offers specific packages for what I am looking for - I would not need scripting or any 'fancy' features, just file storage with FTP access. How much space? around 1 GB, possibly 2 in the future, maybe 3 or 4 if I add the gallery one day. And bandwidth, as people will be downloading files from my site. I've been looking around, but it's just so difficult: they all offer webhosting services for people who need to have their sites hosted, etc. and that's not what I need. Any recommendations? I don't have any fixed budgets, my focus will be on price, speed and reliability. Preferably a hosting company which has been around for a while and has good reviews.
