i know maybe it is wrong for this topic to be here, but i am going to focus on my question in technically . my question is " how backorder systems work? Want To Change Email Systems
I have had enough of email problems that constantly happen on a server. For about three weeks now I have been dealing with email issues that I am going out of my mind. Does anyone have a suggestion as to a email scheme that will work. Here is what I would like to do. Disable Exim COMPLETELY. Either setup a server for email only or find a email solution. Email will be pointed ONLY by way of DNS.Once I get email fixed on this box it works for a day and next thing you know it's all messed up again. Somehow etc/localdomains and etc/remotedomains either vanish or get over written plus a bunch of other things including permissions.All I know is this is getting ridiculous.I don't want any sort of email system on this box. I want all my email to go though DNS only to another server. We already have on service that we use for Exchange, so all the MX Records point to that server, but email still has to interact with this server first, which I don't want it to.

Using (NFS) Network File Systems
I sharing File system using NFS between 2 mailservers running postfix on CentOS 5.2.The mail servers shares the base mail directory of virtual users e.g. /home/vmail. It appears to run fine since last couple of months,just requires feedback if anybody already tried sharing mail directories between 2 or more mail servers. Or is there any alternate solution for sharing data between servers?

Xen And 64bit Operating Systems
I tried installing CentOS 64bit using windows image and vnc that comes with HyperVM and it says (your cpu does not support long mode. use a 32 bit distribution), and if I try to install Windows Server 2008 I get blue screen with a stop and error.

Cache Systems For Apache In Windows
I have a fair ammount of load on the server, and I want to cache as much as possible to reduce disk IO. The harddrive is a major bottleneck for performance. The server serve a lot of files larger than 10MB, so I want to cache as much of the files below 10mb as possible. First off I want to cache around 200k thumbnail files, where around 1000 new gets added every day. Secondly it would be preferred to cache dynamic files in a way that the file timestamp is checked at a regular interval, and then read again if timestamp has changed. Is there any free solutions on windows with apache for this?

Millennium Data Systems' Dedicated Servers
to ask about this offer (millenniumdata dot com/BUSINESS/Business-Default.asp?include=Business-Dedicated-Servers.asp) I found. They have live chat support so i talked with someone and what he did say me is: servers come with Fedora and whole LAMP environment installed, you can SSH to the server, and install VNC, you have full ADMIN rights to install anything you wish, servers are not managed (he said that they are Managed in the sense that they are monitoring PING POWER and PIPE), they can Re-image to default for free, no setup fee, month to month payment. I didn't use any dedicated server, I only used shared hosting. What I planed is to move my OpenX (former names OpenAds and phpAdsNew) installation to this server for now to see who is that working. I think that server is capable to run it, since it is currently run on shared hosting.

So Much Spam
through some accounts on the server and the amount of spam in their mail queue is really frustrating. I had to set admin accounts for each site I run and the spammers have discovered them, so I am looking for a ssh command where I can just easily clean all the spam out. I tried cat /dev/null > /var/mail/"the username" but that didn't work.

Someone on our server is sending spam mails, he does not know about it. Most spam are sent to aol.com,gmail.com and cs.com I'm getting loads of these Mail delivery failed mails: This message was created automatically by mail delivery software. A message that you sent could not be delivered to one or more of its recipients. This is a permanent error. The following address(es) failed: The e-mails come from the system/user account e-mail of the domain (usernameDA@domain.com), where DA is Direct Admin. I think it sent more then 30.000 mails in 2 days. Also received a complaint from aol. How can I trace this? What can I do to fix it? Is it a some crappy written php script? He said he updated joomla, wiki and smf forum.

I used to have a reseller account and have shifted everything to a dedicated server. I now find that a couple of clients are getting lots of spam when they didn't before. It seems that the servers used by the reseller account had some level of basic spam filtering installed; my provider suggested I look for a filtering program to install on my server. Spam Being Sent From Our Server.. But How And From Where
We're using whm/cpanel and we're always up to date with the latest upgrades (with all our scripts). 2 weeks ago, we receive a notification from SpamCop saying that our server was sending out spam. We verified everything and found nothing. 2 days ago, same story. We tried looking at our logs and found nothing. Does this mean that there's a security hole somewhere? How can we find out from where the spammer is sending his viagra emails from ? We do not want to be permanently banned because of a spammer.

I noticed that reported server usage from Plesk is 2.x - 3.x, so I went to mail queue (in Plesk) and saw lots of mails that shouldn't be there. There were several senders under the domain dedibox.fr sendint LOTS of emails to lots of addresses in the same email. There shouldn't be a sender @dedibox.fr, as that domain isn't hosted on our dedicated server. I know little about Linux administration... I tried going to the /var/log folder and grep for dedibox on the messages and maillog files, but nothing found... How can I know if someone connected to our server as an user or something like that?

Controlling SPAM
I will preface this thread this way: I know there is no perfect solution to elimating SPAM and not losing "good email". What do you use that is working well for you? I need some suggestions? I don't have time to babysite/teach a spam filter as I get thousands and thousands of emails each day through various emails address on the server. I cannot use services such as easyat.com as they don't work with server that use a remote/clustered DNS.

To Spam Filter Or Not To Spam Filter
As a web host or ISP what do you think is best to do? do spam/virus filtering, or don't touch mail and let the user do what they want with it? (no chance of false positives, or lost mail, this way) I work for an ISP and we have a barracuda and we get tons of calls from customers regarding lost mail and such as when you're filtering such a large varitey of mail its very hard to have a "perfect" filter. Mail that a car dealership gets and what a hospital get is totally different, for example. Also in terms of web hosting the filtering will put a reasonable load on the server during peak spamming hours. So just curious, as a ISP/webhost customer do you think your host should do filter or do you rather manage that yourself?

Plesk And SPAM
I have a Plesk 8.6 box and every so often I get alerted to the fact its being used to send out huge amounts of SPAM. I currently have to just remove the remaining mail in the queue using a utility qmhandle. I look at the logs on the server but cant see where its been sent from. Also I checked to see if its an open relay and all the testing I have done shows its not, so I can only assume its an account thats been compromised. Sending Spam
I have been able to get my server to notify me fast enough so I can delete the account and all he messages sent by that user fast enough. Taking to long might result in getting blacklisted, etc.. So, my question is, how can I prevent something like this? Isn't there a way to completely disable mail for an account (cPanel server) so they can't send mail in the first place? Or, is there a way to somehow silently discard all the eMail sent by a user in a specific group?

People have been abusing my web proxy servers to send SPAM emails. I use PHProxy and I have no mail ports open on my server, or any mail scripts. As mentioned my servers do not have mail ports or mail scripts on them. They use webmin (stripped features) for a control panel. I really need to find out why my IP is always at the bottom of this. I have asked in this forum before but did not have much luck. I have also contacted security companies to help but they were not sure what is happening. One theory is the spammers use web based email systems, and when they submit the form the IP (from a PHP POST variable) is my IP because they are running under my proxy. But I have always assumed that if you have an email form and submit it, the server hosting the forms IP gets sent, not the actual persons IP. That is one theory, but at the end of the day I'm still clueless to how to block this. I have blocked the use of bellsouth.net on my servers but a lot of the spam is coming from anpmall.net as mentioned above.

so spammers arbitrarily send spam to coomon names on my server... that's nothing new. But I was just wondering what happens when a spammers sends spam to email addresses that don't exist... does it just go to /dev/null immediately or just bounce back with no real buildup on the server (ie log, record, temp placement) or should I be concerned with a high volume of spam.

CPanel And Spam
I'm currently getting spammed out the wazzoo on my hosting server and I sent them a support ticket about it and they said it was related to cPanel and that tons of people are having this issue. However I'm not so sure as I poked at a few of the forums here and did a search and nobody seems to be having the same problems. They said they'd fix it when a fix was coming out, but nothing yet and I'd assume it would be a big enough issue for cPanel to release an immediate fix, or at least roll back the system. Is there a bug in cPanel currently or are they lying to me? Is there any way to curb spam past spam assassin since that doesn't seem to be working?
