View 14 Repliesi have some vps hosted with slhost but they all seems to be down since about 45mins.
Even there website seems to be down.
Is it only to me or is this a general down?
We read a large number of reviews and ratings before deciding on whom to go with for our VPS. In particular, the good marks for helpful technical support by SLHost staff as recommended by various posters here led us to go with them.
We paid six months in advance on February 12.
Unfortunately, it has been a nightmare. A few days after we signed up and went through the arduous process of moving data and reconfiguring the sites after the move, which consumed a total of 24 hours or so in 7 days, all was well until we ran into what apparently is a network problem. It remains and has gotten worse. We'll be leaving as soon as we find a new VPS host.
Whether a victim of their own success (perhaps they're too busy to look into things for us) or that they were simply overrated, the tech support is somewhat terse and when it came to a real problem, we were completely ignored. The issue is that the sites are unreachable and incredibly slow for 10-30 minute stretches, beginning during US nighttime from 10 p.m. - 2 a.m. Pacific. After about a week and countless more emails sent and received between their tech support, it began happening during the daytimes too. Tech support insists that there is nothing they can do, but it is exclusively our sites that we can't contact, and that goes for our users as well. They have said unless we have our site's users (who aren't computer technically proficient people and are very confused when we try to give them instructions on how to run a traceroute) run traceroutes as well, they don't have enough evidence there is a problem. This, despite the fact that there is a large discussion about it with various users from around the globe reporting the problem alongside their location. I linked them to this, and they dismissed it.
I advised them I would be making a report of my extremely poor experience with their services on this website. They dismissed that too. They are either overwhelmed, or it is what it appears to be: they simply couldn't care less.
I've been using SLHOST.com for a couple of years, and they used to have great VPS service. My server was always up (I'm not a power user, I just host some small business websites for clients of my web design company - nothing that gets a lot of traffic or puts a strain on the server).
They recently moved locations, and I've had nothing but problems. They somehow screwed up the IP and DNS of the server. My (and my clients sites) couldn't be accessed for over a week! Support kept telling me that there was no problem, unti I proved to them that the DNS wasn't right. I didn't have any email during this period, and either did my clients.
Since then, AT LEAST one of the services on the server randomly stops working (the two big ones are DNS and STMP) a couple of times a day. I don't receive error messages (I know because my clients call me screaming why their email isn't working AGAIN).
As a web design company, I've lost reputability. As a professional affiliate marketer, I have literally lost over a thousand dollars because of the downtime. Every time I contact support, they restart the services and tell me there's no problem with the server (which is obiously not true).
Any suggestions from other webhostingtalk users on how to get better service and a credit from SLHOST.com? I'm not technical and I need a VPS that just simply works.
I recently started monitoring my server 2 days ago with hyperspin. I can post my support emails here as proof and verification that these problems are occuring multiple times a day.
I moved to SLHost some time around January. The first couple of months were okay. However, the last two months have been hellish. This month alone the server was down June 1, 3, 4, 16 (for 13 hours) and, again, today.
anyone else having the same experience with SLHost?
We are experiencing some blacklisting with our current provider, through no fault of our own, and we are evaluating some other alternatives for our very modest website. Do any of you have experience with these firms? Happy to keep your comments confidential if you email me individually.
View 6 Replies View RelatedI have seen lots of posts different places (including slhosts own forum) about the horrible uptime since slhost sold their accounts.
Just wondering where people are planning to move to? I really don't want to do the experimentation thing through a bunch of hosts.
I moved from shared host to VPS a few days back. Since the move, the site becomes slow during particular time of the day. It appeared to be an issue of cron run by their another client and after promising that they would move that client to another node (I have spent more than 25 days to follow up on this till now) they backed off from their words but informed me about an alternative. Now, they say that the cron of that client was executing many scripts and they have spaced those scripts.
I am looking for a long-term host and was wondering:
1. VPS provides a minimum guaranteed stuff so what is the use of that guarantee if one client can make the server crawl (imagine 5 minutes or more to open a site).
2. Can a host be trusted who does not honour words.
I thought I would do a review of some of the web hosts that I have used or am using over the last year or so.
I'll start off by talking about the 3 webhosts i currently am using.
1. Lunarpages (regular shared hosting account).
2. HostingZoom (regular shared hosing account)
3. Hostgator (Reseller Account)
Lunarpages:
I have had a shared account with Lunarpages since early July.
Positives: Of the different webhosts I have used, they seem to keep php, and other software the most up to date (on the elara server). A webhost that uses older versions of software that have security issues makes me nervous. Another positive of Lunarpages was the free "Coffeecup" software.
Negatives: I really wanted to like Lunarpages when i signed up with them. Of all the hosts I have used in the last few years, the Lunarpages server I'm currently on is down the most. In fact, I currently use my space there just for testing out software (like Joomla) and setting up demos for my current web design clients to learn on (they can learn on the demos as opposed to messing up their live sites!). The server generally has some issue at least ever couple of days were the site is unreachable (either a hight server load and everything times out) or some other issues....
Has anybody heard of Flash Support and Real AudioVideo Support? MMHosting.com offers this kind of support and I wonder if it's effective?
What do you think of it?
I'm undecided between an upcoming dedicated hosting server and am moving between Softlayer and ThePlanet. My decision partly comes down to support.
I've read many reviews on WHT about both companies, but not necessarily comparing them from people who have experienced both.
So my questions (keep in mind this is my first dedicated. I have used VPS in the past with good support) Which offers MORE support (not better) - I'm curious which company might consider my support questions as "part of the default service package" or "need additional service plan for that" More detailed support - my usual experience with support is support staff assume you already know a high level so it may take going forward and back 5 times via email to get a full answer
Overall support satisfaction - any other comments
I've been with Hivelocity for 2 years. Occasionally we have problems, but it works. Their support staff can do very simple things relatively fast, however if you have some serious problems, e.g. failed disk and need to be replaced and do restoration from backup, it will be hell!
They will NOT do what asked in Reload Request, delayed answer to chat, no answer to tickets for many hours.
So far I'm very disappointed of Hivelocity support.
Do you know any vps that support vpn ?

If I were to purchase a VPS without cPanel ( or any other panel), what kind supports should I expect from my host?
how common is it in the VPS industry to do custom installs/configurations/updates on request. For example, I don't know how to configure qmail and I will want someone to do this for me. Does this kind of service exist? Is it a standard to be expected or is it fee-based thing?

Do you personaly think that some companys don't answer right on support tickets or don't think the right way, (like dont care) when answering a support ticket in there billing system or support system then with the client comes on a forum such as WHT and posts what happens the provider comes and helps the client much more then he would of or had in the support tickets. I see many people come on wht and bring there problems they have with there provide, Im not saying this is a bad thing to do im just trying to show every else how i see it as that the hosts don;t care about there clients but when something goes public the hosting provider trys more to fix it...
Could it be that he or she dsnt want to lose customers thats the way i think it.
GeekStorage's support is awesome. They usually answer within 10 minutes and so far (only been with them for 2 weeks!) they have solved every issue perfectly.
The quality of their support and their attention to detail is the best I have seen in the past 5 years.
I've got give LW some props.
I was at a crossroads on my server running php 4x and needed to be able to run 5 and allow the sites using 4 to still run it. I read about how to do it but would of totally screwed it up.
LW support came to the rescue, installed both the 4 and 5 and now I can select the php version to run from the accounts cpanel.
Took a while to work through it but it's up and running and I'm a happy camper.
That's why I've had my server with them going on 3 years now.
I want to buy a hosting service with following feature
1 SSH
2 SSL
3 Rsync
4 SVN
5 Wordpress, Drupal support ( plan to run multiple wordpress and drupal site in this hosting plan)
6 multiple domain name support in one hosting plan
7 a lot of bandwith
8 great customer support, and low down time
I do some research and have a chat with justhost.com and they seem to support everything i need however, after reading some review seem like they try to force you to update to dedicate server when your bandwidth is up.
We are a web company that currently has a WHM/cPanel server that we manage ourselves. However, we are looking for a service that will be on call for us 24/7 in case something were to go amiss and our technical team was not available to restart services, restart the server or do whatever technical troubleshooting was required to get things back up and running quickly.

View 8 Replies View RelatedI'm in the process of migrating some stuff to a new VPS. Some things I can do myself, some the provider has offered to help with (Future Host), but there are a number of little issues and tasks that I either don't have the time for, or aren't confident in doing myself.
I'd like to 'hire' a freelancer. Can anyone give me an idea what a going rate for doing some general WHM/cPanel tasks might be?
I moved a web site over to iweb.com about 4 months ago. I've found them to be quite responsive to simply queries and issues - quite a change from the previous host I might say. Last week I ran an FTP download to perform a backup of all the material. After about 12Mb, the transfer was aborted and I could no longer access the site by FTP, or HTTP and I couldnt get email. The site is not down though as others can access it, but I cannot access it from any computers on my network (PC and mac). I chatted with support and they said they'd have to look into it - this was last Wed (1/14). I still cannot get connected. Further diagnosis from my end leads me to believe that IP was blocked due to the FTP transfer (I was able to duplicate this from a different IP). Apparently, the problem has been escalated to the sysadms but they are swamped and can't get to my problem. I figure unblocking the IP should be an easy quick fix. Perhaps understanding why it happened and how to rectify that will take longer.
My question to the group is, is this level of service normal for iweb.com, and are my expectations of a quick fix unreasonable?
