A Quest About Vps Stats Command
Feb 18, 2007
I have seen many people here showing the stats below:
Server Load 0.04 (4 cpus)
Memory Used 21.9 %
Swap 0.999 %
Disk vzfs (/) 6 %
and i have done lots of search on google and in this forum as well,
I have no idea how you can generate stats in this kind of format in SSH.

just out of interest, does anyone know a ssh command(s) to bring up your servers hardware stats? Cpu type and clock speed, memory, disks etc.
I've looked everywhere for a shell command to show cpu type with no luck.

I look after a number of sites and monitor their stats. We use both webalizer and AWSTATS so we can have a comparison. Up until recently the stats for both of them where relatively the same, webalizer usually showing higher numbers as it doesn't filter bots but the progression of increase and decrease in stats was proportional. However, over the last few months a curious trend is appearing, the stats in AWSTATS are decreasing every month whereas the stats in Webalizer are increasing, the gap between them now is huge.

I find comparatively few mentions of Future Quest here and so I thought I will add one more.
My site was hosted on Future Quest for close to two months. Thus what I am saying here is based on the experience of someone who has about 3 months experience as I had spent one month researching into web hosts before taking the plunge.
Future Quest has:
(1) extremely fast response time in terms of tickets. When you submit a ticket, you can expect to get a reply within a very short time. When I first got my account, the replies came almost instantaneously as they try very hard to get me over the learning curve.
That is not a small matter as I started off staring at the screen and not daring to key in a single word just in case the server explode.
(2) the control panel is sufficient to do the routine work like creating databases, email accounts, file management, etc. Coupled with SSH and FTP, the control panel became quite flexible. The response time is quite fast as I believe there are few overheads in using the panel. The control panel, ssh and ftp are sufficient to run a website.
It was only later when i tried using cpanel and directadmin that I am able to make a comparison. For more advanced jobs like site redirection and crontab, these are better.
But these are one-time jobs and do not justify continuous higher RAM overheads. On the other hand, FQ may like to consider a more complete tutorial with troubleshooting tips.
In which case their site owners will get the best of both worlds.
(3) the forums are quite friendly and the people helpful. The various site owners give useful and pertinent comments.
(4) perhaps the most important point is the integrity of the organization. When I signed up, i was told that i can use their services for 60 days and if i close my account during that time, i am entitled to a full refund.
Well, i used up to close to 60 days (short by a few days). When I closed my account with them, I instructed them to deducted off two months, the agreement notwithstanding.
But what they did is to honour their agreement.
Which makes me respect them deeply.
.....
The reason i decided to move are two: I need more domains using mysql tables and a faster response time. After experimenting with another vendor, i realized that i can only get very fast response time if i moved to a host that is close to my city. But that will mean that my target audience will be affected. Thus a compromise is neccessary. I also find I had taken for granted the level of support from Future Quest.
.....
In conclusion, I came to view these factors as crucial in selecting a web host:
(1) supportive staff who are cognizant of a newbie's fear of doing the wrong thing and willingness to help the newbie through, especially during the initial period
(2) technically sound and viable infrastructure. They claimed 100% uptime and during my time there, I found nothing to refute this claim. At one stage, I was glued to the site almost 18 hours a day for 3 weeks.
(3) no overpromising to get sales. After the sales, keeping to the promises made. A matter of integrity.
I find Future Quest perform very admirably in these respects.
It will be ideal if Future Quest open a branch in the East to serve the Asia-Pacific region. It is either that or I migrate to the States. Come to think of it, that is not a bad idea.

I applied for 2 Visionary accts. with Future Quest with 2 domains that was a week ago still no email or any contact. They have my debit number which makes me nervous. I didn't see any complaints about them on the internet. I tried to cancel the acct. on the cancellation page and it wouldn't take my domain names. I've emailed about this issue also. Has anyone else had problems with these guys? I'm new at all this. I've heard Site Builder is good..are they?

I stumbled on a webhost today. icdsoft.com. Looks like a solid host. They do not have phone support, which left me hesitant. A newbie without phone support. OH MY GOD! I tested them and asked few questions via e-mail. My questions were answered in 10 minutes! Reviews are nothing but favorable, and they have been around for over 3 years.
They are also very reasonable (under $10, 1GB disk space, 20GB bandwidth). One note they do not supprt ASP or JSP.

Below are some results from various stats programs from one day's activity on our site. webaliser and awstats give sort of similar results (although still 6400 pageloads difference), but these results differ so much from what google (analytics) says.
can anyone think of an explanation for this? does google have a different definition of a visit compared to webaliser and awstats? for these latter two is visits = hits?
Webaliser 4000 visits, 17600 page views. Aw stats says 3800 visits, 24000 page views. google says 637, 1500 page views. adsense says 3,600 page views.

does anybody know if there is a possibility to circumvent godaddy´s pathetic stats they offer on shared accounts?
-I am not quite sure what tells you the unique visitors (always a good one to know )
-It doesn´t tell you what robots crawl your site. It just says: robots 28 (great!)
-The graphs are all reversed. Meaning that the now date is always on the very left hand corner of the x-axis towards the 0 intersection. This is pretty pathetic as it goes against anything human brains are accustomed to.
I´ve got to stop venting now. I would appreciate if somebody knows where I can find the unique visitors (hosts served maybe?) and how I can install a better stats program on Linux shared hosting at go daddy.

When I go through my AWStats under "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" I see several domains that have linked to me. When I visit these sites they are generally porn and drug sites that do not contain a link. Some of the sites redirect you to other sites. When you look up these domain names they are all from Russia.
These sites account for mulitple hits as high as +14.5%. These sites do not represent the content on my sites.
My questions are.
How do I stop this? I have found banning IP addresses does nothing.
How are they doing this?
Can this lead to your site being blacklisted?

Recently started using HAProxy for load balancing / failover, and have the usage down. But, no matter how much I search I can't find one simple thing...
Anyone know of a way to customize the status page?
Seems to be a directive actually in the binary...I can't find a conf, include, anything to pass any customization to it. I'm talking about the /haproxy?stats URI.

I've a few similar video sites and haven't noticed much difference over the years with their stats. They usually average anywhere from 50-100mb downloaded per day.
Suddenly this month, one site is practically going off the scale...600-700mb...up to 1gb downloaded per day...I'm like...wtf?! The other site is reporting normal BW.
I'm using awstats with hotlink protection enabled.
Is something or someone draining my bandwidth?

I have always had a US based shared hosting service for my sites, but I'm about to move to a VPS and am not sure where to shop.
My unique visitor stats per continent, for my main site, for the last month, are:
Europe 24,889
Americas 16,002
Asia 1,446
Oceania 609
Africa 208
Is a Europe based VPS a no-brainer with these stats? Does it really make a difference?

I thought i may as well post this here having already contacted my host. Just thought you knowledgable people may be able to give me some insight to this?
Well i am creating a sub-domain, and i obviously have site stats with AWStats for my primary domain name. If i was to create a sub-domain say example.sitename.com would i still receive the site stats for the sub as well as the primary one?
Anyone had any experience on this?
as midphase are good but generally take ages to get back to me and their response are rather general,

I have a pretty active phpBB forum. I was looking at my stats today and I notice some strange referrals. I checked it out and it and it is a bunch of spam sites. But with a link to one of my threads in the bottom (different per spam site).
- The spam sites have nothing related to my content
- The link to the threads in my forum has no relation to each other.
- Out of all the sites to put, why mine? My forum is not a very very popular forum.
I can post the link if it will better understand the above situation.
I just like to know why and what purpose does it serve? Also is it bad for me? As it is a spam site is linking to my forum. I dunno if search engines will think my site is a spam site as well.

I don't like having to come here for help, but I'm stumped on this one and my server tech isn't really helping - perhaps I'm overlooking the obvious. I have an addon domain on which stats are not updating. As of the 11th of this month, the site had over 1.2k uniques and right around that time we did a server move (on the 10th so it may have started then).
It is only for this one addon domain that things aren't working. It registers 0 new anything since then with the exception of yesterday when my tech says he repeatedly refreshed the page and it registered a grand total of 2 uniques. Back to 0 again so far today. I know the site is getting traffic.
Secondly, Webalizer shows very minor traffic in its categories with numbers that remain in the low single digits.

I recently installed Urchin on a cPanel server (RHES 4), all sites got its profile added into Urchin database, but when I run urchin for 1 site manually, it freezes on 0% and processing... Logs files have 0644 as explained in google Urchin manual ...
Also, using IP:9999, and viewing the profiles and its stats show 0 stats generated, but going to www.site.com/cpanel, then to Webstats - Urchin, shows every day with graphs, everything is ok...
Does anyone know how to disable cpanel urchin access, and only use the IP:9999 access to manage and view all statistics...

How can I arrange so stats are not loaded?
IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email.
This is cPanel stats runner on server.dealsreferals.com!
While processing the log files for user stnudee, the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is
09:35:21 up 6 days, 22:32, 0 users, load average: 2.76, 19.13, 52.20
You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run /usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes).

It being the end of the month, I was reviewing the stats for my site, oldWithoutMoney.com, a place where I put my songs for folks to listen to.
The site typically receives minimal traffic, topping out at 100 unique visitors / 200MB each month, as expected.
But, I did note that there were an additional 126 'Error 404' (file not found) hits.
Might this be an indication of attack attempts? In any event, how might I better determine the nature of the URL requests generating the errors.

I can't seem to solve, perhaps you could give me some pointers or tips on how to fix this.
All the cPanel stats programs (Awstats etc..) haven't been updated since the 17th June but when I login to WHM it says the stats have been updated (within the past 24 hours).
On the 17th June I moved my hosting operations from the USA to the UK onto a new webserver.
How can I make sure these statistic programs are updated and shown from cPanel, even though I can tell it to update via SSH (completes) and claims in WHM with no problems (updated with in 24 hours), the new stats still fail to appear.

I have Awstats on my server enabled for:
Nokia Browser (PDA/Phone Browser)
UP.Browser (PDA/Phone Browser)
Motorola Browser (PDA/Phone Browser)
My question is, are the visitors a day accurate - which I take to be uniques. It seems these must be pretty far off.
Presently they show an extremely high multiple of that for pages/s (approx 30 -50 times the visitors). I've never heard of visitors clicking this many pages.
I've not come across these kind of number with other non-mobile sites and it makes wonder if its right.
A) is tracking handled in the same way on mobile devices as on desktops (cookies or sessions?) And is this reliable for mobile/handheld/cell-phone devices?
B) There really isn't much of a chance of these page views being a result of bookmarks - the page views don't seem to add up to this.
The 'Browser Top 10' hits coming from 'unknown' are > 50% of the total amount.
Are there any quirks with awstats or other tracking software when it comes to mobile devices, even though the activity is taking place on the server? I take it Urchin may be more accurate?
