Should I trust my host with providing correct BW stats? Is there any way I can confirm those stats? (I don't have any tracking software or log analyzer installed because it uses too much resources.) The log file is tiny. Probably no more than 12-24 hours logged.
If you upload your website(s) to any given host provider, what security do you have? None, they are in control of your website, if you're:
1. Late on payments. 2. Publish content they don't like. 3. Exceed your limits in any other way.
They can cut you out, close you down.
The only excellent (!) way, to be in total control, is to host your own website, on a dedicated server, in your own home, with a dedicated line, right or not?
I look after a number of sites and monitor their stats. We use both webalizer and AWSTATS so we can have a comparison. Up until recently the stats for both of them where relatively the same, webalizer usually showing higher numbers as it doesn't filter bots but the progression of increase and decrease in stats was proportional. However, over the last few months a curious trend is appearing, the stats in AWSTATS are decreasing every month whereas the stats in Webalizer are increasing, the gap between them now is huge.
Just wanted to stop people to become they target of scamming and reported this right now while my server is with them and they dident answer me when it get down about 2 days ago until now...
People, DONT EVER TRUST THEM!
They prices are cheap but they are totally Untrustworthy!
You could pay more than that to have a real server not 15 days a month server!
In case of knowing my issue:
I have bought one of they september offer server, its a core2due 2.13Ghz and 2GB RAM and 2 x 160GB HDD about 14 days ago and my server is now down like 48 hours or more and I have placed 4 - 5 tickets now with every language I know either respectful or swearing, and no answer at all!
they simply ignored my tickets, they live chat is mostly offline (maybe online only 2 - 3 hours a day)
and I have no choice of having control on my server, even the reboot port is a ticket placer as emergency priority and actually no one answer you or even read you ticket!
Guys, you better dont fall in they scamming program by seeing they cheap prices and being tempted.
RBLs are a key part of blocking spam, what RBLs do you trust now? Spamhaus? Spamcop? Obviously, with hosting companies themselves being the victim of renegade RBLs who list people inappropriately you know which you trust or not..which are they?
My numbers show nearly 80% of mail (read: mail, not spam) is blocked by a simple RBL entry of Spamhaus.
I tend to trust Spamhaus, with enough precautions in place, which others?
It would be a slam-dunk to go with HE if the limit was 2.5 AMPS- so I have to ask one more time: is is 2.5 or 2 AMPS that I am limited to? Reason I ask is that in a 4/6 email you said: > >> > >>> Hello, > >>> > >>> Thanks checking it out. I think Dell can only spec it out configured > >>> fully loaded. 600Watts So it looks like your server will not be fully > >>> loaded. Like you said, you can get, check it your self or just go with > >>> our $200 7u special, rack and read the kill-a-watt meter we provide. If > >>> its around 2.5A, it should be no problem, if its higher, we can > >>> immediately upgrade you to the full 15A cabinet and 1Mbps for $600. > >> But everything else you have said and I have read says 2 AMPS."
And here's the response:
Quote:
> > Keep in mind its not the start up power usage its the operating power > > which is much less than start up. If you are at 2.5 Amps you will not be > > asked to upgrade. 3 Amps yes but not 2.5.. > > > > Let me know if you would like go forward with the services. My quote is > > good for 30 days even if the marketing dept decided to eliminate the > > special pricing.
To which I replied:

Thanks,
Then I’m ready to sign-up, if we can amend the contract to state the following (changes in bold):
“7U customers are provided with one metered outlet with a limit of 2 amps. If customer exceeds 2.5 amps, customer will be allocated a full cabinet, asked to move their equipment to the cabinet, and the full cabinet rate of $600/month will be added to the monthly bill for the remainder of the term."
Let me know if that’s acceptable and I’ll amend the copy I have, sign it and fax it back to you.
To which I receive the response:
Quote:
> Hello, > > Unfortunately I cannot amend the terms. I can only assure you by email > that 2.5 Amps should not be an issue. As an example, we had one customer > with 2.8 Amps and didn't ask him to upgrade until he hit 3.4 Amps. > > I would say to consider getting started with the one server now and when > you add your second one, we can look at the power usage then. We will > work with you and are reasonably flexible. > > I look forward to your reply.
Would YOU sign this contract? I've only heard good things about Hurricane Electric on this board, but I hate having to trust someone who probably works on commission.
I am in the process of upgrading from apache 2.2.21 to apache 2.4.3. I'm using apache lounge's compiled 2.4.3 by the way. I'm working on a windows 7 SP1 64 bit workstation.
My old 2.2.21 was configured to use ssl with client pki authentication. When I configure 2.4.3 with the ssl options and move the CAs, private key and server certificate from my old 2.2.21 instance I get the following error.
Below are some results from various stats programs from one day's activity on our site. webaliser and awstats give sort of similar results (although still 6400 pageloads difference), but these results differ so much from what google (analytics) says.
can anyone think of an explanation for this? does google have a different definition of a visit compared to webaliser and awstats? for these latter two is visits = hits?
does anybody know if there is a possibility to circumvent godaddy´s pathetic stats they offer on shared accounts?
-I am not quite sure what tells you the unique visitors (always a good one to know )
-It doesn´t tell you what robots crawl your site. It just says: robots 28 (great!)
-The graphs are all reversed. Meaning that the now date is always on the very left hand corner of the x-axis towards the 0 intersection. This is pretty pathetic as it goes against anything human brains are accustomed to.
I´ve got to stop venting now. I would appreciate if somebody knows where I can find the unique visitors (hosts served maybe?) and how I can install a better stats program on Linux shared hosting at go daddy.
When I go through my AWStats under "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" I see several domains that have linked to me. When I visit these sites they are generally porn and drug sites that do not contain a link. Some of the sites redirect you to other sites. When you look up these domain names they are all from Russia.
These sites account for mulitple hits as high as +14.5%. These sites do not represent the content on my sites.
My questions are.
How do I stop this? I have found banning IP addresses does nothing.

Stats are not updating for this account. I ran this twice, keeps getting stuck at this line forever..
Recently started using HAProxy for load balancing / failover, and have the usage down. But, no matter how much I search I can't find one simple thing...
Anyone know of a way to customize the status page?
Seems to be a directive actually in the binary...I can't find a conf, include, anything to pass any customization to it. I'm talking about the /haproxy?stats URI.
I've a few similar video sites and haven't noticed much difference over the years with their stats. They usually average anywhere from 50-100mb downloaded per day.
Suddenly this month, one site is practically going off the scale...600-700mb...up to 1gb downloaded per day...I'm like...wtf?! The other site is reporting normal BW.
I'm using awstats with hotlink protection enabled.
I thought i may as well post this here having already contacted my host. Just thought you knowledgable people may be able to give me some insight to this?
Well i am creating a sub-domain, and i obviously have site stats with AWStats for my primary domain name. If i was to create a sub-domain say example.sitename.com would i still receive the site stats for the sub as well as the primary one? Anyone had any experience on this?
as midphase are good but generally take ages to get back to me and their response are rather general,
I have a pretty active phpBB forum. I was looking at my stats today and I notice some strange referrals. I checked it out and it and it is a bunch of spam sites. But with a link to one of my threads in the bottom (different per spam site).
- The spam sites have nothing related to my content - The link to the threads in my forum has no relation to each other. - Out of all the sites to put, why mine? My forum is not a very very popular forum.
I can post the link if it will better understand the above situation.
I just like to know why and what purpose does it serve? Also is it bad for me? As it is a spam site is linking to my forum. I dunno if search engines will think my site is a spam site as well.
My current "manager" it his all "great time" couldnt fix irt whole day so I am looking for experienced manager to check and fix my problem, let me know how much you charge per 1h and what's your experience,
I don't like having to come here for help, but I'm stumped on this one and my server tech isn't really helping - perhaps I'm overlooking the obvious. I have an addon domain on which stats are not updating. As of the 11th of this month, the site had over 1.2k uniques and right around that time we did a server move (on the 10th so it may have started then).
It is only for this one addon domain that things aren't working. It registers 0 new anything since then with the exception of yesterday when my tech says he repeatedly refreshed the page and it registered a grand total of 2 uniques. Back to 0 again so far today. I know the site is getting traffic.
Secondly, Webalizer shows very minor traffic in its categories with numbers that remain in the low single digits.
I recently installed Urchin on a cPanel server (RHES 4), all sites got its profile added into Urchin database, but when I run urchin for 1 site manually, it freezes on 0% and processing... Logs files have 0644 as explained in google Urchin manual ...
Also, using IP:9999, and viewing the profiles and its stats show 0 stats generated, but going to www.site.com/cpanel, then to Webstats - Urchin, shows every day with graphs, everything is ok...
Does anyone know how to disable cpanel urchin access, and only use the IP:9999 access to manage and view all statistics...
But I'm not sure how much power it actually takes to generate theses MRTG stats... The server is a Celeron D 2.8Ghz, 512Mb ATA soft raid system. Do you think that I should update the stats less frequently to decrease the server usage?

IMPORTANT: Do not ignore this email. This is cPanel stats runner on server.dealsreferals.com! While processing the log files for user stnudee, the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is 09:35:21 up 6 days, 22:32, 0 users, load average: 2.76, 19.13, 52.20 You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run /usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes).
