AWSTATS Stats Decreasing While Webalizer Stats Are Increasing
May 23, 2008I look after a number of sites and monitor their stats. We use both webalizer and AWSTATS so we can have a comparison. Up until recently the stats for both of them where relatively the same, webalizer usually showing higher numbers as it doesn't filter bots but the progression of increase and decrease in stats was proportional. However, over the last few months a curious trend is appearing, the stats in AWSTATS are decreasing every month whereas the stats in Webalizer are increasing, the gap between them now is huge.

Jun 29, 2009I've been on ixwebhosting and about high time I change since:
1. I received numerous feedback from visitors about its tortoise-speed loading despite host's claim to have 'no problem' with it,
2. My site got hacked (from China) and customer support could not identify the exact source of the problem.
My site runs on ASP.NET and MSSQL. I need a fast server and large enough one to operate a website like novica dot com.
$20+/month is about how much I can afford at the moment, so looking for a host that allows my site to expand with the business.

Jan 29, 2009my domain [url] was hosted with ixwebhosting for the last 1 year. Before that I had 4 more domains hosted with Ixwebhosting. I will write up a review of me being a customer with them for the last 2 years and 2 months. Unlike most people, I was not entirely unhappy with their service, however the jotdown with points in different categories in this review will help you from deciding wither you want to go with them or not.

Why I joined them?

Support:
Their chat support is indeed a handy thing but its full of people who dont know what they are doing. Everytime you open up a ticket in the control panel, always give the chat support client, the ticket ID and tell them to fix it right away. They will reply back within 1 day which is just lame but if you dont bother chatting with them, then expect a reply in 3-5 days time.
Server:
Their Unlimited Pro was based on the same servers shared with everyone else in their clients list. It was good enough for my forum when I had around 30-40 users online at once, but when it became 100 users online a day, you would get MYSQL errors and server downtime every now and then.
Loading Speed:
Loading was considerably very slow, I never found it even comparable to 1and1.
Money Back Guarantee:
Believe it or not, I got my money back when I asked for it after renewing my contract for another 2 years. I could not decide whether to go with them or not, but I just signed up for the heck of it. Later, I realized I needed to move right away, I did not care about the refund but they were nice enough to keep the promise for the Anytime Money Back guarantee. I did not get all the money back because they would charge you for the domains you have with them.
Worst Experience with them:
Novemeber 20, 2008 was my renewal date with them. I signed up in 2006 November for a 2 year agreement. In november, 19th, a guy with a funny Ukrainaian name "Tiberiu" from system administration sent me an e-mail saying I am violating their terms of service by having a big disk space. remember they said unlimited disk space and I stored only 5 gigs worth of data. But still, they threatened me the day before my renewal date. I was shocked and mad, they threatened to suspend my account if I dont take any action within 5 business days. I deleted most of the contents and kept nothing important, making all recommended backups. I signed up with them for another two years as I was a fool lost and not knowing what to do. If I wanted to move to another host, I would have my site on downtime. I could not take anymore downtime, as a result, I earned some more money and decided to move to a VPS.
Why I moved to VPS?
As they say, you get what your pay for and I got it. I understood my lesson. My site is more valuable than the 310 dollars they charge me for a 2 year agreement. My website is right now very successful with an alexa rank of 60,000+. With all this traffic and so much addictive members in my website, I had to move to a reliable place where you would pay more and get more as well.
Notes to other webmasters:
You can definitely sign up with IXwebhosting if you are new in the web development zone. But, always research and read reviews, understand the promises they make and never take anything for granted. And most of all, make regular backups (database and file contents). I know my vps guys monitor my server and keep regular backups, but I schedule my sites backup every week or less and believe me its a relief! I made my sites myself, edited all the commercial scripts (vbulletin, photopost, joomla etc.). I did it because, I have a passion. Always explore all the possibilities and go with a reliable hosting company. Don't depend on any of them and pay more for a better host plan if you love your site as much as I do.
Just Flogged By Ixwebhosting
Aug 27, 2008i just purchased hosting from ixwebhosting about 9days ago and just for the last 3 days, i have not been able to use any FTP client to check my directories.
The username and password both passes the test but when its about to list the directories/files on the server, it say 'failed'. I have contacted them several times and they seem not to find any problem with it.
So folks, i have decided to pack in. The weird thing is am able to use their C-panel FTP Manager to login and alter the directories on my server BUT not with independent FTP's.
Guys, in terms of reliability, which host is best from hostgator, hostmonster, bluehost, lunarpages, webhostingpad, Dot5hosting and inmotion?
Frequent Virus Attacking In IXWebhosting ?
Oct 20, 2009i have 2 blogs with ixwebhosting.com from 1 1/2 years. from 10 days my blogs are getting attack frequently. every time i am cleaning and reporting to them. they are also clean it. but it is attacking again. They said my system has virus. (but i have latest bitdifender 2010 total security,probably the best antivirus) i also have account with 3 more hosts with many sites. everything works fine.
i am asking them why only this account getting affected if i have virus in my system.i already moved one site to another host where it is working fine now. Except this problem they are very good. So i can't left them.
if any one has experience this kind of problems, please suggest me what to do?
Burned By IXWebhosting, How To Find A *secure* Host?
Nov 13, 2008I'm a customer of IXWebhosting (actually their alias HostExcellence) and I'm completely disgusted. Their latest crime is denying and covering up a security problem which allows scripts to be inserted via cache directories. I now have people complaining of Bloodhound Exploit messages from their Norton Antivirus software. It's being done by somebody else on their servers, in turn infecting everybody else (for several weeks now).
Several months ago, they began SPAMMING the error pages with search engine affiliate links, which I'm sure they collect money from. I said I wanted them off, they said "do it yourself" using custom error pages.
Their outgoing e-mail servers are constantly blacklisted.
Whenever the database or main server fails, they never catch this on their own. I always have to call or create a support ticket.
Needless to say, I'm tired of their BS.
How do I find a replacement host that takes SECURITY seriously? Are there report cards anywhere?

Very Different Stats
Feb 17, 2007Below are some results from various stats programs from one day's activity on our site. webaliser and awstats give sort of similar results (although still 6400 pageloads difference), but these results differ so much from what google (analytics) says.
can anyone think of an explanation for this? does google have a different definition of a visit compared to webaliser and awstats? for these latter two is visits = hits?
Webaliser 4000 visits, 17600 page views. Aw stats says 3800 visits, 24000 page views. google says 637, 1500 page views. adsense says 3,600 page views.
Godaddy Stats
Apr 4, 2006does anybody know if there is a possibility to circumvent godaddy´s pathetic stats they offer on shared accounts?
-I am not quite sure what tells you the unique visitors (always a good one to know )
-It doesn´t tell you what robots crawl your site. It just says: robots 28 (great!)
-The graphs are all reversed. Meaning that the now date is always on the very left hand corner of the x-axis towards the 0 intersection. This is pretty pathetic as it goes against anything human brains are accustomed to.
I´ve got to stop venting now. I would appreciate if somebody knows where I can find the unique visitors (hosts served maybe?) and how I can install a better stats program on Linux shared hosting at go daddy.
How Are They Doing This With Links In My Stats
Jan 2, 2008When I go through my AWStats under "Links from an external page (other web sites except search engines)" I see several domains that have linked to me. When I visit these sites they are generally porn and drug sites that do not contain a link. Some of the sites redirect you to other sites. When you look up these domain names they are all from Russia.
These sites account for mulitple hits as high as +14.5%. These sites do not represent the content on my sites.
My questions are.
How do I stop this? I have found banning IP addresses does nothing.
How are they doing this?
Can this lead to your site being blacklisted?

HAProxy Customized Stats URI?
May 12, 2009Recently started using HAProxy for load balancing / failover, and have the usage down. But, no matter how much I search I can't find one simple thing...
Anyone know of a way to customize the status page?
Seems to be a directive actually in the binary...I can't find a conf, include, anything to pass any customization to it. I'm talking about the /haproxy?stats URI.
Sites Stats Seem Weird
Feb 19, 2008I've a few similar video sites and haven't noticed much difference over the years with their stats. They usually average anywhere from 50-100mb downloaded per day.
Suddenly this month, one site is practically going off the scale...600-700mb...up to 1gb downloaded per day...I'm like...wtf?! The other site is reporting normal BW.
I'm using awstats with hotlink protection enabled.
Is something or someone draining my bandwidth?
Europe Or US Based Vps For These Stats
Apr 21, 2008I have always had a US based shared hosting service for my sites, but I'm about to move to a VPS and am not sure where to shop.
My unique visitor stats per continent, for my main site, for the last month, are:
Europe 24,889
Americas 16,002
Asia 1,446
Oceania 609
Africa 208
Is a Europe based VPS a no-brainer with these stats? Does it really make a difference?
Sub-domain Site Stats

Well i am creating a sub-domain, and i obviously have site stats with AWStats for my primary domain name. If i was to create a sub-domain say example.sitename.com would i still receive the site stats for the sub as well as the primary one?
Anyone had any experience on this?

Strange Referrals In My Stats
Jun 5, 2007I have a pretty active phpBB forum. I was looking at my stats today and I notice some strange referrals. I checked it out and it and it is a bunch of spam sites. But with a link to one of my threads in the bottom (different per spam site).
- The spam sites have nothing related to my content
- The link to the threads in my forum has no relation to each other.
- Out of all the sites to put, why mine? My forum is not a very very popular forum.
I can post the link if it will better understand the above situation.
I just like to know why and what purpose does it serve? Also is it bad for me? As it is a spam site is linking to my forum. I dunno if search engines will think my site is a spam site as well.

Mar 21, 2007I don't like having to come here for help, but I'm stumped on this one and my server tech isn't really helping - perhaps I'm overlooking the obvious. I have an addon domain on which stats are not updating. As of the 11th of this month, the site had over 1.2k uniques and right around that time we did a server move (on the 10th so it may have started then).
It is only for this one addon domain that things aren't working. It registers 0 new anything since then with the exception of yesterday when my tech says he repeatedly refreshed the page and it registered a grand total of 2 uniques. Back to 0 again so far today. I know the site is getting traffic.
Secondly, Webalizer shows very minor traffic in its categories with numbers that remain in the low single digits.
Urchin On CPanel, Cant See Stats
May 28, 2007I recently installed Urchin on a cPanel server (RHES 4), all sites got its profile added into Urchin database, but when I run urchin for 1 site manually, it freezes on 0% and processing... Logs files have 0644 as explained in google Urchin manual ...
Also, using IP:9999, and viewing the profiles and its stats show 0 stats generated, but going to www.site.com/cpanel, then to Webstats - Urchin, shows every day with graphs, everything is ok...
Does anyone know how to disable cpanel urchin access, and only use the IP:9999 access to manage and view all statistics...

I have no idea how you can generate stats in this kind of format in SSH.
BW Stats - Should I Trust My Host
Feb 27, 2007Should I trust my host with providing correct BW stats? Is there any way I can confirm those stats? (I don't have any tracking software or log analyzer installed because it uses too much resources.) The log file is tiny. Probably no more than 12-24 hours logged.

While processing the log files for user stnudee, the cpu has been maxed out for more than a 6 hour period. The current load/uptime line on the server at the time of this email is
09:35:21 up 6 days, 22:32, 0 users, load average: 2.76, 19.13, 52.20
You should check the server to see why the load is so high and take steps to lower the load. If you want stats to continue to run even with a high load; Edit /var/cpanel/cpanel.config and change extracpus to a number larger then 0 (run /usr/local/cpanel/startup afterwards to pickup the changes).
A Slew Of 404 Hits In My Stats
Oct 27, 2007It being the end of the month, I was reviewing the stats for my site, oldWithoutMoney.com, a place where I put my songs for folks to listen to.
The site typically receives minimal traffic, topping out at 100 unique visitors / 200MB each month, as expected.
But, I did note that there were an additional 126 'Error 404' (file not found) hits.
Might this be an indication of attack attempts? In any event, how might I better determine the nature of the URL requests generating the errors.
